[Q] Help Me Decide - Off-topic

I am leaving Verizon for various reasons. I have made a shortlist of phones Im looking into. Anyone want to put their 2 cents in?
Sprint:
Evo 4G - Grandfather that can still kick some ass
Evo Shift 4 - Heard the k/b is kind of mushy
T-Mobile:
G2 - Like keyboard, have used before
HD2 - Very awesome modding community
ATT:
Atrix - Looks nice, non-laggy
---
There you go!
PS, i'm in Chicago, and it is raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock.

The "awesome modding community" means a lot to me personally. I've been really impressed with the ROMs, Apps, etc. for my Incredible... I feel that it's been a big part of keeping my "perceived" value very high. I still have no nagging feeling that I need to upgrade and I've had it for over a year.

Ok here's my opinion for each carrier you mentioned
Sprint: get the evo shift because of the 2nd Gen snapdragon, I have a hd2 and both hd2 and evo have the same 1st Gen snapdragon processor and its laggy compared to the competition
T-Mobile: g2, same reason as stated above or you know go for the g2x but if your addicted to flashing like 99.9% of xda than consider the awesome hd2
Att: atrix lags alot trust me, I had a captivate and I tried out a atrix...yeeeeaaaah didn't go so well for the atrix
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

I'd go by carrier first and foremost. If Sprint, and you're considering the Evo / Shift - then the size of the screen must not be that big of a deal, nor the keyboard angle. If not, why not the Nexus S? If GPU quality is of import, and you don't need a keyboard , I'd suggest the Nexus S. Immediate updates and better chipset.
Sprint would get my vote, obvious bias aside, because of the truly unlimited data. WiMax is meh so far, not taking into account future updates to the network. Not to mention if you even get coverage where you are.
Carrier and coverage is the most important thing to consider I would think. Edit: and I missed that Chicago bit at the end. I spend some time in the city and am located outside the city and I can say Sprint coverage is definitely nice. A big market, especially for WiMax. That said, frequency and building penetration is something to take into account with 4G. Should that even be a selling point. I have an Evo and it definitely has had some great developer support, but it is an old dog. No ifs ands or buts. Also Sprint is supposed to get the GS2, an Atrixq like device as well as - assuming as much - the Nexus '3.' If you can wait you might be better off. If not, I'd say the NS.
Enviado desde mi PC36100 utilizando XDA Premium de la aplicaciĆ³n

Another vote for the Nexus S. HOWEVER, do your research first. I'm hearing reports that there are issues with the Nexus S 4G radio. People are complaining about it not working right or not working at all. That said, this IS XDA and stuff like that doesn't stop the devs here
Sent from my NS running NSCollab cuz I lost my tin cans and string....

Yes, very true. I haven't been keeping up with all the news, but I get the impression this is something that could be fixed by an update ... as opposed to, for example, faulty radios. I have been under the impression that it isn't a widespread issue, either.
But, of course, research and look into your options.

[Q] What's the best Andoid phone to use with the NC (CM7)?

I have a four year old Blackberry Storm. I like the phone but it will not tether to my NC so I can use the phones internet.
Now I am looking for a new phone.
4G is not a required but it would be nice.
Suggestions?
Please tell us who your carrier is.

Sorry, That would be a big help....
Verizon
The Samsung Galaxy S II
is rather sexy.
But there are alot of great choices out there.
4G would be a good choice in general. Tether it to your Nook and you can easily stream all the media you want to your Nook and enjoy media on the 7" screen.
The Galaxy S II is coming to Version in July
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-said-to-be-verizon-bound-in-july/
Edit:
Oops, read the article closer, I guess Galaxy S II in July is not confirmed. read the update at the bottom of the article. Sorry.
Definitely...
The 3 best verizon phones out there are the:
Thunderbolt (HTC) Good speeds, android 2.3.4 with gingeritis (a rom) root, sense 3.0 on that rom, but bad battery life. 4G though.
Droid Incredible 2 (HTC) I believe its Froyo, but sense 2.1 on stock rom with good battery. 3g though.
Droid CHarge (Samsung) Bad UI, bad manufacture. Android is OK with the customizations. But 4G + Extremely good battery + tethering = awesome time with the Nook
Good battery life is a lot higher than streaming video. I almost never use my phone for this.
My phone is primarily for work. Email, phone, data.
I am a Submarine Combat Systems Electronic/Computer Engineer and I upload ton of Word/Excel files, PDF ect along with technical manuals and cheat sheets that I have developed myself to aid with any repairs that I have to do, in any part of the world. Having world phone coverage is NOT an issue. But the issue with that, is up until now 99% of all phone screens were too damn small.
The NC has fixed that issue.
I use Documents to Go on the Storm and now have it on the NC along with a bunch of other apps. I want to start to use my NC for email and such in conjunction with my new phone. Sometimes I get new schematics, PDF's etc emailed to me when I am out on some boat.
My long term goal is to make the phone and NC one integrated system. Transmitter/receiver on my belt, and NC in my hands.
Does this help?
Oh, rooting my new phone will have to be a must....
Thanks to all who have already responded.

bad manufacturer? how so?
From the verizon porfolio, i would wait for more LTE phones to roll out. There is really nothing attractive coming out from them.

I have never owned one, but the general consensus on this and most every other forum seems to be that Samsung is the worst manufacturer by a very large margin. I have heard various reasons why such as a horrible UI, bad build quality and extremely slow updates to current models. Having never owned one I can't confirm any of this but the XDA community as a whole seems to feel that Samsung phones are not a wise choice and I've learned never argue with them so I went HTC
Edit: Also do keep in mind that many newer phones are expected to have locked bootloaders. This means no custom ROMS or possibly no rooting... and that means that if you want tethering you will have to buy Verizons tethering plan. So, if you are wanting to do the free tethering provided by rooting your phone then you will want to make sure that whichever phone you buy can in fact be rooted! And in the case of many newer phones coming out this summer, that is very much in doubt I'm sad to say. But then again all these rumors may be just sky-is-falling panicky behavior by us newbs, the Chefs may be able to root and flash boot-locked phones in a month flat for all we know!

Outside of the whole brand bias, general consensus including professional reviews are usually favorable for samsung's high end phones.
They did have some issues just like every other manufacturer and it may have seemed worse partially based on the fact that they had the single largest successful line up out of all the android handsets last year
Btw, galaxy s2 came with unlocked bootloader and received at least two updates since early may and 2.3.4 is supposedly under way. As for the carrier delayed roms, there is a real issue there when two identical devices on two different carriers ended up getting the froyo updates months apart.
Btw samsung released the gingerbread update before anyone else.

They also just sent free Samsung Galaxy S II's to many of the Cyanogenmod developers. Also, it seems that the trend NOW is that the manufacturers will be unlocking their bootloaders. (samsung has never locked theirs if I remember correctly)
Well that is good news. Maybe they are trying to buy their way back onto the XDA peoples good graces Hey as long as they have learned from their mistakes and are building quality phones now, nothing wrong with that! And I have no doubt that no matter what they buy the Devs, it won't get them any good press here that they don't deserve. Like I mentioned I never bought one. I've just heard hundreds of people posting about how "bad" they were for one reason or another. But I'm always glad to see another Android manufacturer step up their game, it's good for the community as a whole!
I have the Droid X and it play well with my NC using Wireless Tether.
I picked up a LG Revolution. Seems ok, but battery life is not great. Better than the Thunderbolt but still not great.
Using wireless tether on the phone, I was able to get my NC to the internet using Wi-Fi. Attempted Bluetooth tethering but that was a no go.
Thank to all for the recommendations.
my samsung galaxy s gt-i9000m is a fantastic bit of hardware that had lots of software issues that made out seem as though it was bad hardware. I found software fixes for everything that was wrong, e.g., microphone distortion, gps failure to lock, etc. & now it is a perfect device. Maybe HTC is better out of the box, but if you are a tweaker the galaxy is rewarding.

Thunderbolt, Droid Charge are the best options. If 4G is not a must, the Droid X2 has a dual core.
They all will do what you want. Just different styles which is up to your personal tastes.
I have now had htc samsung and moto phones (all Android) and there are pros and cons. Just go to a store and see what feels best when you hold it.

There really is no "best android" phone IMO. There are different needs for different reasons and people. You mention that you want to make them work seamlessly, blue tooth or tethering both will work. As long as the phone is rootable and a selection is there for apps to work together from phone to NC, then the simple answer is with phone do you prefer? I always make sure my phones have a battery that can be removed..screen is easy on eyes and I have a good feel for it. Currently using my EVO which is sprint for both my nook, transformer and when also my netbook. I might upgrade to the 3d and even thought about samsung galaxy 2..from what a friend of mine told me who has a samsung...flash CM in it becuase of the update issues..he is TMobile..
4g
Well
i use evo 4g with cm7 latest nightly to tether to my nc... it compliment each other....
Donny
I owned a galaxy s on tmo before. I liked it a lot. Very light, great screen, decent power. No build issues other than flaky GPS (vibrant version only?) Hard to brick for those who flash a lot. Problem with file system early on(due to proprietary fs), solved by roms. I actually unlocked it and still switch to it from my inspire4g. No locked bootloader.
But really, any android (that is unlocked bootloader) will work... its all about preferences.

[Q] Vivid/Skyrocket/Nitro

So I am Unlimited AT&T legacy customer that just went out and baught the HTC Vivid. I baught the Vivid for a couple reasons.
-Upgrade was advailabl a couple months ago. I wanted to lock in my Unlimited Plan before they start deploying LTE in my area. I wanted one the Dual Core, 4.5" screen, LTE phones.
-The display look much sharper sitting next to Skyrocket in the store. Looking at the AT&T Widgets that were the same on both phones. You can really tell the sharpness of the Vivid's screen in comparisance.
-Build quality was more "Solid." Weight was not a defining issue for me.
-I baught a first generation Captivate. So I got burned by the GPS issue. So the Samsung Skyrocket was going to have to be perfect.
-The Nexus is not going to come out for AT&T anytime soon, I think.
-I did not relize that the LG Optimas existed and is coming to AT&T as the Nitro
I am looking for some feed back on why other folks baught the HTC Vivid? Is HTC a solid company when it comes to updating? Do folks have high hopes, looking forward to, Sense 4.0 and ICS? Do any folks have any experince with LG? Did I make the wrong choice now that the LG Optimas is coming to AT&T as the Nitro? The last, and most important, do folks see a solid group of XDA Developers doing their magic on the HTC Vivid?
Now when I got burned with the purchase of the early build Samsung Captivate, and it's horrible GPS. The only thing that made the purchase worth it was the XDA Developers Community and all the effort they put in to it. So in the end I am looking to see which of the LTE, 4.5", Dual Core phones is going to get the most XDA Development, and be a good phone.
Thanks for any responses/opinion
As far as dev support, the Skyrocket has real root, and can run TMo S II ROMs already.
LG has a worse record if possible than Samsung for Android updates. Plus, they don't have much of a following. The build quality is great, but check out the Ghost Town of the Thrill forum. That phone came out in September, its already been passed over by all the dev support.
If you want high end android phone with dev support and don't mind losing LTE the original Galaxy S II is the best phone on ATT. Its almost identicle to the international version. There were ROMs for this phone within 24 hours because all the work on the i9100 was not lost. The first phone on att with ICS will probably be that phone. I would not be surprised if we have ICS before (if at all) att has a subsidized Galaxy Nexus.
I too came from the captivate. I never had the GPS woes everyone else complained about. It was slow to get a lock, but worked solid for me from that point. The i777 original Galaxy S II is much faster to get a lock, but not as fast as my wife's iPhone. I am extrely pleased with my i777, but I don't gave LTE, and would be surprised if I have it next time I upgrade.
I bet the Vivid will pick up a lot of the Inspire crowd, but I don't think it will rival any of the Samsung phones of late.
If I had LTE coverage to play with I might have been tempted, but its still first Gen LTE phone for att, so that scares me from both the vivid and skyrocket.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
I actually wound up with one of my Lines being the LG Thrill and that phone is still stuck with Froyo so yea LG has a VERY Bad record of keeping up with updates considering the Thrill isn't even that old. As for the Skyrocket it seems to have a bit of a banding issue like white lines when you are watching movies or what not that is quite aggravating. Oh yea also forgot the Skyrocket Does not seem to have FM Radio built in. It does have an NFC chip though which is kind of a bonus but with the horrid screen it really depends on what your looking for in a device. If you want a fast phone out of the Box and something with NFC than the Skyrocket is what you will want. If you want a phone that has Wonderful resolution and will Be most likely Just as fast as the Skyrocket once it gets root than I would go with the Vivid.
After having owned both the Skyrocket and the Vivid for a few days, here are a couple of my thoughts. I hope this helps your decision process. This is all just my opinion.
I like the feel of the Skyrocket in my hand better.
The Skyrocket's web browser is not resizing websites when you pinch to expand. The Vivid does.
The Skyrocket's screen colors are brighter than the Vivid's, but light colored websites and text on a full white background is significantly dimmer.Reading ebooks is better on the Vivid, or--for that matter--my Inspire.
The Skyrocket has the charging/USB port where it belongs, on the bottom. The Vivid's is on the side. That's worse for charging cradles and using the phone while charging.
I like the screen resolution on the Skyrocket better. Fonts are easier to read for those with less than perfect vision. Some of the Vivid's Fonts are downright tiny.
The Vivid works flawlessly with my Motorola H17 headsets. Cyberon works great. The Skyrocket has been basically useless with the H17; how it works with voice command I don't know. This may be a compatibility issue, but still...
Synching to Outlook with the Vivid is painless and free with HTC Synch. Synching to Outlook with the Skyrocket is a PITA and costs $50. (For the third party PC program.) Perhaps there's a better way I haven't found.
Volume is FAR better on the Skyrocket.
Battery life is better on the Skyrocket.
The Vivid can turn Bluetooth volume down further. That's a big deal when on the phone with a loud talker.
Sense (Vivid) is better than Touchwiz (Skyrocket).
Both have data issues right now.
Both are plenty fast enough.

I understand liking super amoled more but actually preferring lower resolution? You must be one of few. Just resize the fonts if they're too small.
Doors anyone know anything about the LG Nitro? It seems to be a solid device specifications wise. How much damage does LG do with their launcher/modifications.

Many system fonts are not resizeable. Go android. One of the few? Anyone who's vision is less than perfect and doesn't want to put on their reading glasses to use the phone. Now, I believe once the phone is rooted there are apps that can change pixel density? So there probably is a way down the road to fix this. But I'm just talking out of the box experience here. Anyone with the skill/desire to get into that will disregard what I'm saying anyway. I'm just trying to help the unskilled masses make their decision.

So I start this off with a disclaimer that this is complete hearsay and in no way from an authoritative source. But! I was talking to a friend of mine who works for Samsung America in the PR department about phones, and I asked her about the Galaxy Nexus. While she wouldn't really say much, she did say that if I wanted it on AT&T, I'd have to wait till the end of the 1st quarter or beginning of the 2nd quarter in 2012. So, at some point in the future, the Galaxy Nexus will likely be available for AT&T, but it'll probably be a ways off.
I have heard both good AND bad about LG phones, but this thing looks too tempting to pass up. My week old SGS II will be heading back to AT&T as soon as the Nitro drops.
I was debating the nitro once i heard about it but after having the skyrocket and relazing the only benefit is the screen thats where it stopped. I feel that the dev community and just overall software upgrades (skyrocket is confirmed for sandwich 100%) and other lack of issues on the bulletproof skyrocket makes me believe that i made the right choice. Every time i play with the vivid and skyrocket, yes the crispy screen is nice but once you take them away from side to side the skyrocket isn't too bad.

Media guy here - i have a new in box Nitro HD, LTE, for AT&T, if anyone wants to buy it. PM me if interested. I got to play with it/review it extensively, and it's LG's best efforts to date. The G2x is crap against it, and LG has really stepped it up.
They gave us Nitro HD's to keep, but I'm on T-Mobile, and as much as I'd like to use the Nitro HD, I don't want to use it on Edge, T-Mobile connection, hence my reason for selling. If you want to buy it from me, let me know - thanks!

I have the Nitro, new in box for sale. As I sad above, I am on T-MObile and can't use it. PM me if interested
I chose the Vivid over the Skyrocket because of the qHD screen and because it had an FM radio. I previously had a Captivate and loved the AMOLED screen, but after lengthy in-store comparison I felt the Vivid's was as good or better than the Skyrocket (at least at full brightness). Both seemed equally snappy. The Skyrocket was much lighter, but I decided I could live with the Vivid's weight.
Bought my Vivid the day it came out, and my only trepidation was, 'Please ATT, don't come out with any 720p phones in the next 30 days.' And sure enough, here comes the Nitro! But even if I could change, I don't think I would. Judging on the specs in Phonescoop (subject to change), the Nitro has the 720p screen, faster processor and lighter weight, but seems to be missing the following features:
- less RAM (720MB vs. 1GB for Vivid/Skyrocket) ** see Edit **
- less internal storage (4GB internal vs. 16GB)
- no FM radio
- no video out ** see Edit **
- possibly less battery life ** see Edit **
Will check out the phone on Monday. Like I said, I really wanted 720p, but I've seen the HTC Rezound in person, and while the text is sharper, it's really only noticeable at very close range - the icon sizes were the same despite having 78% more pixels. So for now, I'm still very happy with my Vivid.
PittFred
EDIT: The Nitro has DLNA, so outputting media on a TV is possible, just not with a cable. Also, Phonearena says the RAM is 1GB, so that 720MB might be the usable figure; comparable to ~800MB for Vivid. Confirmed the 4GB internal storage and no FM radio, which is a minor thing, but I wanted it after AT&T deleted it from the E71x.
The Nitro has an 1820 mAh battery, comparable to the 1850 mAh for the Skyrocket and better than the 1620 mAh for the Vivid, but worse claimed battery life, perhaps a function of the screen. 1800 mAh after-market batteries are available for the Vivid.
After review, the specs are much closer/favorable for Nitro, so it's more of a judgment call.
___
Cingular/AT&T since 2003
Nokia 6200 -> Treo 650 -> HTC 8525 -> Nokia E71/71x -> Samsung Captivate -> HTC Vivid!
RAM
Does 768 to 1GB of ram make a difference? This is some what of a deal breaker for me.
Quick update - the specs are up on AT&T's website. I went to LG's website and downloaded the manual for the Nitro HD (LG P930), and it says that video out by HDMI cable is possible, and over WiFi/Bluetooth/USB in more limited ways. Perhaps these differences are due to differences between international and Americanized models. If correct, Nitro's specs seem even more favorable.
$150 in my area, may have to swap for vivid. ARG
I'm going fir the og gs2 right after church. Vivid is nice but no root, battery life, and some what leggy ui... I came from ios and so fat I am disappoint with android but I think its the phone. Ever since I first got this phone I kinda wish I hadn't.

Just yesterday my phone didn't make it a whole day. I unplugged it at 7am and then watched some YouTube vids and by 7pm the battery was dead. Heck, at 6pm my battery said it had 40% battery and I used the navigation system for 5mins and it went down to 20%. Its kinda embarrassing when your friend ask for a flashlight so I had him my phone but the battery is to low for the flashlight to turn on. My other friend asked "I thought you had 45% battery an hour ago" and then hands his iPhone 4s to that guy. So no, this phone has been a disapointment. Sorry for the rant

The Droid 3 was released before the Bionic and Razr. Phones take months to develop, they aren't put together overnight. Considering the Droid 3 was the first with the new version of motoblur and the new plaform (omap processor) it was probably the longest in development out of those three phones. The Droid 4 being released doesn't make the Droid 3 obsolete. Plus, plenty of other phones were released at that time with 3G, you don't see petitions for those phones, do you?
Everyone was fully aware 4G was going to be available at the time of the 3's release, if you wanted a 4G phone you should have waited for one.
Its not necessarily the 4g they are after. Its the 1G of ram, faster processor, keyboard setup the Droid 3 should have been.

Its not necessarily the 4g they are after. Its the 1G of ram, faster processor, keyboard setup the Droid 3 should have been.

It's still equally as ridiculous. Not every phone released is a high end phone. These companies develop midrange ones all the time. There were plenty of 512 phones being released at that time. Plus the bionic has the same processor.
And the keyboard, really? The Droid 3 keyboard was a huge step up over the 2 and Evo Slide or w/e. Should they just constantly delay the phones launch because they have people working on building better keyboards? Give me a break. Feature creep is the number one reason why companies lose money and their products are unsuccessful.
I mean this is really like people that complain their computers are obsolete after buying them. Welcome to the technology market. There are multiple teams working on multiple products.
Whatever, I don't even think 10,000 people bought the Droid 3, mostly because most of them recognized it was a terrible purchase at the time anyway. I mean I sat there and weighed the options of having a keyboard to having 1GB of ram and 4G (and most people at the time were saying the 1GB of ram wasn't really true, it was 512 for the phone 512 for the laptop dock). I choose the keyboard, but honestly the phone has other issues that bother me more than just lack of 4G. The fact that my multiple 32GB cards randomly loses music folders is way more annoying to me. That and how I'm on my third phone because the USB --> PC connection decides to stop working after lots of use.
I'm upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus as soon as possible.

What I read there is " I hate my droid 3". How about ending the beotch fest and just sign the petition. Lol.
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
I'm not gonna sign it because I know it won't do any good. Besides the only major upgrade is the 4G to me. The extra RAM isn't needed and we can already overclock our phones to the same speed so IMO it's not a huge upgrade. The D2->D3 was a more superior upgrade because of the dual core. I got my phone running nice and the battery actually runs good enough for me to be able to go ahead and go through the day without needing a charger most of the time provided I'm in a good 3G area or have Wi-Fi. But go ahead. Besides tell me one time Verizon has actually listened to a petition?
I signed it. I hope for an early upgrade.

I dont know where the problem is, a new product gets realesed, if you have the money and you want it, you buy it. You should stop to care so much about your phone....its just a phone.

I signed it, for what it's worth. I'm fine with my droid 3 and love it. I know it won't get us anywhere but it's worth a shot.

This is just a little bit silly. Everyone that DECIDED to buy a D3 knew full well that they were compromising 4G AND 1G of RAM. If these were the things that were important to you at the time, then you could have got the Bionic. You can't blame any company for coming out with better devices too soon, you can only blame your own poor timing to make a purchase.

Uh yeah... like this measly little petition is gonna get enough attention for Motorola wanting to lose millions of dollars on D3 owners because a few of them whined about a new phone coming out too soon.
My issue is then why buy a phone if 6 months later the same phone comes out that better. So if I buy the d4 then six months later a tripple core d5 comes out then what. Its stupid. The carriers don't care about you they want your money so the pump out these android phones as fastas they can. And stick you with there ui's and your current phone will always feel old. Now the d3 is still a good phone with its duel core but why did they come out with a d4 so soon. Makes me feel that they said oopps we should of made it 4g and more ram. So to bad for the d3 owners, so go out and get the new phone and pay full price becouse you already used your upgrade. More money in there pockets. That's why as soon as my upgrade is availible I'm getting the samsung nexus and I'm saying good buy to the carrier phone with there stupid skins and out dated software ( galaxy s is at 2.3.7 and my d3 is still at 2.3.4 and the s is a year old). And I will never look back. In fact I can't even recomend the d3 becouse of this, or any other carrier phone. Yes I know that the samsung nexus is still a carrier phone but goole is in control of it. That's why there are no stupid bloat ware on it. So the new stock look of 4.0 is so much better then any skin.

So you're saying that these companies shouldn't produce phones so you can feel good about you having the best for a little longer? These companies are in the business to make money.
I find it amusing that people think they are entitled to stuff beyond what they've purchased. You bought a Droid 3, you got a Droid 3. Motorola doesn't owe you **** beyond what they gave you. If Motorola came out with a slightly improved Droid everyday it wouldn't and shouldn't make a difference. You knew what you were buying and you bought it. If you don't like it you have no one to blame but yourself.
Well, the thing is...when the iphone 4 came out...everyone who bought a 3gs like 4 or 5 months before was allowed an early upgrade. So why not us.

I love these responses. This is great for a bored day at work.
1. Yes, you knew what you were buying. You may not have gotten exactly what you wanted, but you did get exactly what you paid for.
2. The economy is not governed by simply productivity. If that was the case, a new type of widget would be made every day because numbers would be the only thing that matters. The economy is governed by the desires of the people. While Verizon and Motorola may not care. They should provide a strong effort to give people a sporting chance. I have my Droid 3 after innumerable software issued with my D2G. Verizon gave it to me. That said, I always wanted a 4G qwerty slider. The Stratosphere is a poor substitute as its specs are last generation. Should Verizon offer Droid 3 owners something? Yes. Because its important to keep your customers happy. Case in point, I will NEVER buy another Motorola handset again. Samsung has better battery, and HTC has better UI. Keeping your customers happy is key. HTC knows this, and so does Samsung. In the next year, I suspect any device can be activated on any network, giving us more options of phones. And I'll take an Epic 4G anyday!
3. The petition may not work, but when has sitting your behind ever done anything helpful? Don't antagonize people for having hope, and standing on their principles. It is because of people with the courage to fight for what they believe that I can ride in the front of the bus. Principles are important.
4. FLAME ON!! The same people complaining about the petition, are likely the same people that vote for a party just because of the party. Or just let people walk all over them. If you feel the brown stain on your nose belongs there, good for you. Don't be upset that others have different opinions and act on them. I'd rather stand alone than sit amongst millions.
As I did not purchase the Droid 3, I have no right to sign. However, it remains true that when a new device is released, support for the current market of devices diminishes. That alone, should be enough to make you fight.

Rant, rage, anger!!!

Ok...time for ranting...
WTF, Google!? I have been waiting for months for the Note II to be released, then caught wind of the Nexus 4. "Ooo...new Nexus phone...Snapdragon Pro...mmm...might have to wait..." I thought.
It is leaked to hell-n-back but there's one thing I don't remember seeing in all the leaks...
NO LTE!!!!!
WTF, Google/LG!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
You trying to be the iPhail 4S?!?!?!?!?!?!?
The Optimus G has LTE!!!!
The Nexus 4 tainted my want of the Note II with its inferior CPU only to leave out something I used to knock the iPhail 4S for...LTE...I'm legitimately annoyed with this...
Why can't Google EVER get a Nexus device 100% right? Hell...even 95% right would be doable...
Am I the only one that's like "WTF, GOOGLE?!"
/rant
I pretty much agree. I can deal with the lack of storage options, but the lack of LTE I think is a deal-breaker.
I don't know about you but HSPA+ is plenty fast for me plus lte is a battery drain.

We knew it didn't have LTE from the FCC docs. So it shouldn't have been a big surprise.
Guess a ton of people choose not to read FCC docs, those weirdos.
Honestly, though, I probably hate you if you have to ***** about something as trivial as LTE.
The Nexus 4 sucks....

To the OP,
Pls stop your whining. A little more research and you'd be able find out why the Nexus won't have LTE. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus had LTE...so why Nexus 4 doesn't? Simple. To achieve LTE it would mean to have both radios built in to the phone. And that sacrificed a lot of the user experience. You can ask every single Verizon Galaxy NExus owner and they'll tell you how much laggy it was compared to its international version without LTE. Another reason why Nexus 4 doesn't have LTE is that, tactically, Google wants to make sure their devices are available for use for every single network on the planet.

Battery/LTE: Every phone has its tradeoffs

I am reading a lot of bemoaning with regards to what is considered poor battery life on the Nexus 4 based on comparisons made by Anandtech's review, and I feel that people are forgetting the golden rule of smartphones. That rule being that every phone has at least one 'fatal flaw' that you have to accept when you finally purchase that device. I feel like this thread will put things into perspective for those who just want to have it all. Reality is what it is, I'm not saying you should settle and give in to sub-ideal phones, but hey if you need a phone you need a phone, ideals and wishes won't make phone calls or grab your emails for you.
Let's start with the iPhone 5. Firstly, it's iOS and all its annoying ecosystem that surely every Android enthusiast has distaste for in some way or another. I'm pretty sure that rules it out alone and causes us think "Well who cares how long the battery lasts if I hate using the thing. Pass." It does have great battery life on LTE, quality construction, more accessories than you can shake a stick at, etc etc, but it's still iOS. No LTE in my area either but hey not the phone's fault.
Onto the HTC One X, which is a good phone in many regards but still has those 'fatal flaws.' It costs $465.50 (6 months after launch) unlocked which isn't too heinous but it isn't pentaband GSM keeping you from 3G/HSPA+ on T-mobile or whatever random 1700 band International carriers there are in the world. Also has frequent wifi antenna problems for many. It only sports 1 GB of ram. It is not pure Android, HTC Sense is hated by many, can be replaced with a custom rom, which is very good. Curious how the HTC one X (1800 mah) did better than the S3 (2100 mah).
Motorola Razr M. I rather like the physical feel of this phone, but with 4.0 ICS, nowhere to buy it unlocked, 1 GB of ram, and less dev support than these other phones I wouldn't consider it strongly.
Next the Motorola Razr i. Only has 4.0.4 ICS, 1 GB of ram, $498.50 unlocked also with no 1700 band support. Screen is probably not in the HTC One X leagues either.
Skipping a few brings me to the Motorola Photon Q. Obviously this thing is only for QWERTY lovers, of which I am not. Hey it probably kicks ass though if that's your thing. Oh but wait, you can only get it from carriers which means you'll be signing a contract. Wuh-oh no dice, that ain't nice.
LG Optimus G... Locked bootloader. (I held one and went "eww" but that's a personal thing), A year after ICS was released, Jellybean has been out for months, and yet LG releases this 'flagship' phone with ICS, tsk tsk. No 1700 band, 545.50 Unlocked. Only one of the versions has a micro-sd slot too, bizarro.
Galaxy S3! Personally the T-999 T-mobile Galaxy S3 is my personal choice over the Nexus 4. BUT Problems?!!? For me it was price at $550, the build quality of the phone, and the physical big home button. I've read too many reports of them cracking on their own (while in Otterbox Defender cases or whatever other big boxy tank armor people buy) because of the crappy plastic used and also overheating during usage or charging. A phone's screen shouldn't break on it's own sitting on your desk. Those issues are rather personal so really the problem is price for a 6 month old phone.
Anyway enough of this, there are many things which aren't negatives to some and other things that definitely are negatives that I haven't included, such as motorola camera quality or something along those lines.
Honestly, where can you buy a 299 or 349 dollar unlocked smartphone with the latest hardware (except that 5" panel on the HTC DNA), latest Android OS which is also vanilla, predictably tons of dev support, and isn't a plastic pile of junk? Although the Nexus is lacking LTE, enough storage for many, less than best battery life, and whatever other gripes there are out there. Also the benchmarks are meh, personally I could care less how fast it runs a benchmark. There gets to be a point where speed no longer matters, sort of like the difference between 100 FPS and 400 FPS when playing a video game or watching a movie. I mean if the phone can load apps faster than the Optimus G by .001 seconds who really cares? It's about real world usage to me, not benchmark scores. That's me though and I realize that isn't everyone's opinion.
So anyway if someone wants more storage and awesome battery but doesn't care about being forced into a contract, they won't mind getting a Razr Maxx HD. But if another person wants to avoid contracts, have the freedom to use their phone internationally even, with the latest operating system the Nexus 4 is the best bet because of the price with the S3 tailing behind it due to custom roms.
Someone could assign a point value to every category and rate phones across the board, but the amount of points per category, or rather the importance of certain traits over others, is totally independent for each person out there shopping for a device.
Long story short here, every phone has its drawbacks and issues, it's a question of which has the least amount of flaws when weighing the needs/desires of the consumer.
The Nexus 4 does the best job of fitting my needs, but it isn't perfect. I doubt any phone ever will be, but that's beside the point. The point is what is here and now available to chose from. The point is that battery benchmark graph that I can't link due to lack of posts. I would have never bought a Nexus 4 like I did if the price wasn't so good. If it were 600 dollars I would have passed and held out for custom roms to keep me afloat on the latest version of Android.
(If you're pissed I made a thread about this don't reply telling me that. Just let it sink to the bottom of the forum to rot and die.)
Thanks and happy phone hunting.
The optimus g has basically the same hardware specs and gets great battery life. Is it wrong to expect the n4 to get somewhere in the same ballpark? N4 appears to have just average battery life which is odd. I still plan on getting it.

I wish I could want an iPhone because honestly I'm tired of rooting and tweaking and iPhone gets great battery no matter what you do.
But I love stock android and honestly I feel like I am chasing a dream. First android phone was epic touch 4g then I rooted awesome battery and ICS skins. Then ICS came out battery life was crap and issues. Ran that way for months. Then jellybean waiting for Samsung kernel horrible performance. Sprint data slow as crap. Then got a gal nex no 4g now slower 3g. LTE is a mile away and it is slow.
Then nexus 4 announced no sprint version leaving sprint for T-Mobile now trying to buy four nexus 4's for the family must wait again.
So at this point if battery life sucks so be it I'm stuck chasing a dream.

Trust me, the iPhone sucks without jailbreak. Especially when you are used to Android (even Stock Android) you will miss so many options. You will miss the tweaking (just because iOS sucks already). And btw, the iPhone is small as sh**.. so no wonder it's battery will last longer. How ever, browsing/writing textes is a pain in the ass on the iPhone.
Had the iPhone 3G (omfg) and the 4S.... glad I could sell them on ebay to some brainfart.
And btw: Once you get to jailbreaking your iPhone it's all problems and annoying work.
Battery is a pretty big one for me, as well as storage.. lte not so much, waiting a while to decide but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a note 2 little more expensive but I can prolly get the woman to let me spend my own money on it :good:

Don't really need 4G.
See, the problem with the iPhone is, that it's an Apple product.
Apple-Hate aside, what people must realize, if they are in an area that offers 4G connectivity, it will also offer FULL 3G connection. The hypothetical max of HSPA+ is 42mb/s which if you're lucky, you can get close to. Also, TheVerge got 5Mb/s in a Metropolitan area, which is more than sufficient. I leech off StarBucks wifi, getting 450 KB/S and can watch HD video and anything I realistically need.
Please tell me someone, who uses 100% of their 4G.
Yeah once your used to android its hard to leave but my thing is since the iPhone 4 apple has had a smooth working phone with great battery. I have used about 10 android phones and honestly the iPhone 4 runs better than most and it is three years old.
Now things are getting better because the specs are crazy in all these phones. But sometimes I envy the apple sheep because they think they have the best and are satisfied with it.
