Overclock - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering what the best overclocking app was...I used cpumaster and got 2500 but I want more

I've always liked Voltage Control. It's got it all. i've also been playing around with Pimp MyCPU- its pretty neat, super easy to use. And then there is also SetCPU which is pretty popular.

Im using voltage control, easy and simple to use.

voltage control only UNDERVOLTS not overclocks, i you know that. use setcpu to overclock and VC to undervolt

Hold up a sec. No offense but your a little off. Voltage control does BOTH. You can set a Max and Min clock just like setcpu and also allows UV. I use Voltage Control. Like I said. Its got everything you need to OC (provided the kernel is OC capable).

What are some good profiles for my captivate with the 1.2ghz kernel and setcpu?? Thanks in advance..

Whatever you do don't use "power save"
Phone won't wake in that mode.

I just set it as 100-1200 interactive. Then set a profile when the screens off 100-600 conservative.
As long as the profile is set from 200mhz - (200-1200mhz) the phone won't shut off and you won't have to remove the battery I had this issue on my phone....

That's because you had it set on "ondemand" I had the same exact issue for a long time before I figured out that was the problem. It has something to do with the kernel doesn't support it right with setcpu or something. I read it somewhere on this forum. I've had it set at 100 min for the last 3-4 weeks and it's never not turned on (as long as it ISN'T set for ondemand).
I'll bump this thread to ask a question.
Around the time I installed SetCPU, I noticed a HUGE drop in battery life. To be honest, I'm not sure if SetCPU is the problem, or if I changed something else on the phone and that's the source of my problem. Anyone know anything that I could have changed unknowingly that caused my battery life to suck so hard.
Don't use set cpu if you can avoid it. Sre sets you to 1.2 ghz and unhelpful supplies a script if you are comfortable doing that.
Limiting speed with set cpu had little positive influence. As long as the scalling is working the cpu should idle with the screen off any how. The only situation I would change the clock is during an overheat condition but I'm running without set cpu all together.
If I'm interpreting unhelpful right the next kernel will make use of user space in set cpu and allow many new things including under voltage to save battery and the creation of custom clocks not written into the kernel so you aren't bound to his preferences.

Where can you do that at? Is that where you make your own cpu speeds?
Use NSTools in any ICS ROM with Icy Glitch kernel.

OC Apps

Hey guys/gals I am currently using SetCPU as my oc app wondering if there is any better ones? What are you using and what features you like?
Set CPU allows you to make profiles but only for limited instances... battery life screen off ect. I like that loads on boot which is nice also.
Making bad decision's one at a time.
I use antutu cpu master a lot like set cpu.

Im using Andrev OC, its not really an app, it runs as a daemon, uses a script to activate at boot. Then you can use Andrev OC adjuster and Mytr Undervolt app from market to adjust the script via GUI.

Xperia x8 overclock problem

Hi there,
I installed 4 modules: fix mddi, undervolt, dual touch, and faster wifi.
I decided to overclock my phone and it seems to be slowing down my phone rather than what it says by speeding it up.
Could it be because i am on semc stock kernel?
After some frequencies it happens to slow...its stock kernel fault.

The OC module has a problem in that when the module is activated it will underclock (correct me if I am wrong) if the OC frequency set is too low (abt 600MHz to 691MHz). Just don't set the OC frequency too low or stop using x8oc.

put a alfs kernel, and you have overclock module with fully working )

Actually nAa does a better job in that.
Maximum frq in alfs is 806 but in nAa 825 is available too

I just read dx's thread as i was interested in undervolting. x8oc.ko will only undervolt once your frequency goes below 600mhz.
@ftwisawesome: are you using "smartass" governor? Try switching to ondemand to check if it slows your phone like you said. And i believe you don't need to undervolt as spyder said it's already built in the oc module. (You are using x8oc.ko, right?)

Oh gosh I said UNDERCLOCK, not UNDERVOLT. The 2 are different and what I meant is that if you insmod x8oc and set it to, say, 600MHz, it will not really clock at 600MHz, it will clock at a lower speed.

Oh, my bad. Sorry about that.
No idea adt the underclock thing, but it does seem that way (ie: cpu set at "600mhz" using module really seems slower than 600mhz before applying it).
Really sorry man..

Change the governor to "performance" and watch if it happens again.

help me please

hi all
i have installed prime hd 9 with custom kernel i want to exactly know at what min and max CPU frequency should i keep for good high speed performance which is stable i kept some frequency at random and it was not that much speed it slowed my phone and in what governor should i keep
I personally dont recommend doing anything with your CPU because from my experience I didnt see so much difference and speeding up your CPU will make you battery drain faster and you CPU will reach highier temps. For the governor I use the performance one because it is constantly keeping the clocks on the highest set values. It makes the phone work smoother and while changing clocks its slowing the phone down. You can try and look for every governor meaning but I recommend the performance one. To monitor the temps use SetCPU`s widget.

Which Ap to Overclock Note? Recommendations?

Yes, I'm using a kernel (hydracore) that allows overclocking.
Which market program do you recommend I use with it?
Setcpu
No frills
yup setcpu the best.
set cpu.. very user friendly
SetCPU complete ,light and easy
I use antutu here. I can overclock gpu as well if your kernel supports it.

nstools also pretty good, just weird permissions
