Hey all,
I have a weird problem in that when I'm talking on the phone, it cancels out the earpiece speaker which is annoying because I could be walking down the street and as soon as it detects background noise, the earpiece speaker mutes?
Has anyone experienced this before?
I'm running the following:
Samsung Captivate i897
Continuum 5.5
Talon 0.2.1 Kernel
i9000XXJVO modem

Hello,
I noticed this problem today, at first I thought it was a Rom or App related (I even unloaded voodoo) so during testing I did a full reboot and had the phones rear speaker against my ear with it facing a mirror... As soon as the samsung boot logo came up (the first one) the rear speaker was active and it kept making this "hissing" sound. (like the sound you hear from large speakers when the power is on but there's no audio input.
The sound is very low and you can only notice it when the speaker is near your ear, now is this normal behavior ? does your sgs do this too? any solution?
during my search for a similar problem I found some thread on cyanogen saying it's samsung related and that it was fixed on later versions (Froyo and up) that doesn't seem to be the case for me...
my device is as follows:
SGS I9000
Rom Darky 9.5 froyo 2.2.1
Kernel Speedmod k13e (latest) with voodoo sound
PDA XWJS8
Phone XXJVO
CSC: Unknown/none
Build info 2011.03
any help on this issue is much appreciated, I don't want to wake up to the day where my speaker is fried

Hi suppressor;
Exactly the same situation here. We have 3 SGS i9000,all of them have the same problem. I tried several firmwares but nothing changed. Now I am trying the ServiceMode-Audio configurations.
Did you find a solution?
I have the latest Europe firmware (v2.3.4 - I9000XXJVP) but still have the problem.
Do the people you talk to on the phone complain about not hearing you well due to low voice? Make sure by listening to a recorded conversation
The people i talk have no complains about low voice or noise.I tested it with changing phones in a call with my friend. My problem is in my site. In a call i always hear radio interference sound on the background. It is coming from the rear speaker because it is always on. This sound is so loud that i hear it from the ear-speaker hole. Do you have any interference sound ?

I recently got this problem too, I'm on ICS (LPY)
headset, earphones and speaker phone all work
the mic is fine, but sound never comes out of the earpiece.
anybody have any ideas what it is?
I have a problem, it seems the mic gain is too high on my ics stock n7000XXLRB (bulgaria). I am using the netcore 14 kernal. I had used a custom rom before and the problem still existed then. Now with the stock ics, it seem the mic gain is too loud and people hear background noise when I call them. I tried video recording and the background noise was just too loud. how can I decrease my mic setting?
not sure
I'm not sure if the problem is the mic gain but the noise cancellation instead since you're describing your situation as a "lot of background noise"..
There are 2 mics on the phone (one on the top edge) and they work with each other to cancel out the background noise.. It might be the kernel that's not working properly with the noise cancellation or your second mic is defective..
If the mic gain is too high as you stated, the other line would hear your voice as terribly distorted like on a speaker on very max volume.
I'm having issues with speaker phone, the MT side complains about there being a loud wheezing noise and they have trouble hearing me. Anyone else seeing this issue ?
This is on nightly 20131104.
My mi3 is only 5days old . it's running Android 4.4
MIUI version 4.12.5(beta)
When I'm playing music from the speaker it makes a strange buzzing noise. Even the ring tone makes same kind of noise. But if I play music with power amp it's almost unnoticeable. If I turn the speaker on while on FM radio also the buzzing notice becomes unnoticeable and sound is clear. Wonder this is a hardware issue or software issue. Anybody else facing the same issue?
It was found out to be a blown out speaker. I got a replacement with the warrenty.
