Ok, this happens on my CDMA verizon tab regardless of choice of Rom, factory, or Factory + OC Kernal, etc, tried this with many combos...
If I use the camera, snap a pic or video, then lock the screen instead of using the home button-then locking screen, the tab freezes and requires a hard reboot to regain use again.
Can anyone confirm I am not the only one this happens to?.

I just reinstalled cyanogen mod 5 (HTC DREAM) because I was having problems. Reinstalling it fixed the problem I had (it wasn't booting for some reason)
The problem I have now is retarded. When I push the end (red) button it doesn't lock the screen. [I've done this: spare parts > end button > set to sleep & settings > apps > dev > stay awake off. ]
Also the home button does not do anything anymore (it still works, as it will unsleep my phone and light it up). It should return me to screen 3.
Also, when I hold the end (red) button it use to suggest airplane mode. Now it just has restart/shutdown. thats not really a big deal though. It not locking the screen at all though is a huge problem. makes the phone unusable (due to pocket dialing )
Please help. thanks!
I tried reinstalling cm5 with dalvik-cache cleared. nothing. those features still dont work. I just installed cm6 (also cleared dalvik) STILL can't lock the screen.
Please help. This problem makes the phone unuseable.
Did you wipe your phone? For me this happened some time ago and the only chance was wiping data. You can try doing a nandroid backup, wipe your data and chech if it works then. Otherwise you can restore your backup

was it the latest version of 5?
I do remember in some of the RC's the menu button would unlock the phone no matter how it was set, that was specifically fixed in the next version, same with the home button. just throwing out ideas

I don't know @ the unlock screen stuff, but the home button action in cm6 can be configured in cmparts, so I'm assuming it can be configured in spare parts in cm5. Sometimes it can also be configured in the launcher's settings. @ the power options only containing restart and shutdown, if I remember correctly, the addition of airplane mode and sound on/off into the power button hold menu was an addition in cm6, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong there.
For the screen not locking, definitely suggest what the other guy said, do a full wipe/factory reset and reflash, and make a nandroid backup beforehand. So either way, even if it doesn't fix it, you can just restore, like the other guy said. Start with that, beyond that I don't know what else it would be.

Check your cm settings for screen time off delay and make sure its set to a reasonable amount.

Did you fix this? I'm using AOSPs version of CM7, and to get this to work I changed the setting in Spare Parts > End Button Behavior > Go To Sleep
The lock screen on my wife's Captivate has stopped working. It doesn't require you to swipe. If you set an unlock pattern, it doesn't require that either.
If you short press the power button the screen goes off. However, if you press the power button again, the phone returns to where she was without prompting for the unlock. If you let it time out, the screen goes off. However, once again, pressing the power button goes right into the phone.
I have tried requiring a unlock pattern, not requiring one, changing it, changing the screen time out. I have also switched back to TouchWiz from Launcher Pro.
I rebooted the phone and that fixed the problem for a couple of days. Now the problem is back.
This phone is a pure virgin, only 2 weeks old. It's not rooted. It is build 1010. It's running stock JH7.
I also have a Captivate and have never experienced this problem. I'm suspecting perhaps one of the apps that she is using. The irony is that I have often thought this might be a desirable mode.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rich
Any apps installed? There us an app in the market called no lock I think that will do that as a feature

After writing that question it got me thinking. I decided to install ATK and kill one app at a time to see if killing any of the apps would fix the problem.
Sure enough, I figured out that it appears to be Tango that is misbehaving. Once I killed Tango, the phone lock worked again. I started Tango back up and the screen lock continued to work. I then made a Tango video call. After ending the video call I tried the lock screen again. Bam! It no longer locks. I kill Tango and the lock is again restored.
For some reason Tango doesn't affect my Captivate (build 1006). I'm not sure why it affects my wife's.
Who says ATK isn't necessary?

i just got my galaxy note's firmware upgrade OTA the other day (from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4) but there is one little annoyance as a result - i have a widget bar by widgetsoid that has a lock screen button that, when pressed locks the screen, but since the upgrade when pressed the screen locks for about 1 second then the lock screen appears as if i pressed a button to turn the phone on.
i then installed the app 'turn off the lights' from the google play store which locks the screen when the shortcut is pressed, but the same result.
my question: is there a way to lock the screen with a widget and make the screen lock without coming right back on again?

Try this application from the play store

thanks, it had my hopes up for a minute. the same thing happened with the screen off for a second and then lock screen comes on for a second, THEN it goes off for good. i ttried checking the 'Delay device locking' in settings and the screen goes off for about 5 seconds before the lock screen comes on for a second then it goes off for good.
ok, ultimately the screen now locks, which is good, but i really want it to just lock without it flashing back on for a second. any way to be able to do this without pressing the physical button because it always worked with a widget before?
I've got exactly the same problem. Screen comes back on after pressing the lock button on the Widgetsoid widget.
I guesa that's just the usual behaviour under ICS 4.0.4 (at least Samsungs version). I use delayed lock and it's the same. So I think you will have to life with it.

Right well the story goes, i got hit by a car 2 days ago and my galaxy note screen is smashed, the screen is completely black and unresponsive to touch i think ( as the menu and the back button light up when i press the home button. I cant seem to unlock the phone. Also when connecting to Kies it just stay on "connecting" but never actually connects, there's pictures and music and important work docs on there, especially all my contacts.
So is there any way i can get onto the phone and access all the data and get it ?

My suggestion would be to reboot to recovery and try to mount storage from there using hardware keys to navigate. This is risky though seeing as how you can't see what is on the screen but if you know the exact version of CWM it shouldn't be too hard to do, especially if you can get someone else to guide you through using their device as a reference point.
Need some help with a phone. The ATT S6 boots up, the animated Samsung logo displays, and then the screen jumps to the WiFi off/on screen. It looks a lot like the setup wizard with the Next > button in the lower right. Clicking Next does nothing.
Shutting it down using the power button doesn't do anything either. I have to do a soft reset, but it just goes back to the WiFi screen and freezes. Doing a wipe on the device is not an option. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix the issue?
