Morning all
I have been offered a swap for my iPhone for a brand new boxed Orange TyTn II and Im just wondering if its worth doing?
I have had previous windows mobile phones and do like the phones so I am considering the trade, I am currently on o2.
The thing is i have read all the posts about unlocking and flashing roms etc and im a little on edge about doing it myself as im sure i will break it lol
I would basically need to sim unlock the phone and remove all the orange software as I think it looks naff!
How much work is envolved in doing what i need and how long would it take?
Sorry if im repeating a post, im not the best at forums and get lost with all this info you guys have!
Cheers
Sy
Absolutely YES!!!
There is no contest. The TyTN II wins hands down!!!
Leave well enough alone. Perhaps get a sim unlocker. Just do a search and you should find something. But don't play around with flashing roms etc. You may regret it.
Use the HTC original apps which you will find on a sticky at the beginning of this forum.
You'd be suprised how easy it is to Flash the Tytn II, the only things you have to remember is:
Flash Pof's HardSPL first,
Then Flash your ROM,
And make sur eyou have a Radio that is compatable with the ROM you've chosen (although if you have an incompatable radio, your device will still turn on and function, you just won't be able to use certain elements, calls/gps/etc)
Plus, you'll notice a MASSIVE speed increase when you've flashed to a new ROM
Hope this helps
I'm wondering if i should get a TyTn 2 now or wait for a Xperia.
Checked out the TyTn at a store a couple of days ago and i loved it, the only thing i didnt like was that it doesnt have a radio. Then i read around in this forum and came across the driver problems and the touchscreen bug and due to them i'm more inclined to wait for Xperia, but then i checked out Xperia's design and i didnt like the way the keyboard slides to, makes you operate the joystick with the right hand instead of the left and that's kind of uncomfortable.
seriously, who uses radio? I stream my Sirius satalite radio..
Sirius Pwnz AM/FM

Yes you MUST CID unlock as well (unless it has already been done, which is doubtful if it is on Orange).
My advice...Before even getting the TYTN II, read the sticky's and Wikis in the upgrading ROM section at least 3 times over to ensure you have an idea of what you are going to need to do before even doing anything. when you think you understand it, read them again.
Then go ahead and flash any ROM you fancy and enjoy the benfits of the TYTN II voer the Iphone.
HardSPL is the replacement bootloader that allows you to install an non original ROM.
Im on T mobile and i hav heard that the ROM is not heavily branded. im just worried about bricking it. i already have the MDA viara 3.
reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679 doing hardspl, does that automaticly unlock the CID or is there another tool to do that? if so do CID unlock it first and then hardspl?
You will NEED to CID unlock AND HardSPL...Do not consider doing anything untill you are 100% certain of the steps you are performing and why, otherwise you will have a rather expensive paperweight.

Thanks for the advice. one small question. if i was to follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1790046&postcount=3 word for word i should be succesful?
there is one question i am still confused about and thats this hardspl/cid unlock. according to the Thread i linked, all i got to do is follow the guide from HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1 - CID Unlock & Flash any ROM to your device (4 free) and bam im ready to Flash the ROM?
also what are the major benefits of flashing to a custom ROM?
does the procedure from that last link above hardspl AND CID at the same time?
hi i managed to hardspl my device succesfuly. so im ready to install a new cooked ROM? what are the best ROMS out there that i can try. i have seen dutty's ROM that many have used and was wondering if thats the best one
Does the DUTTY rom improve the camera and video playback?
hi there,
I've tried some DFT Mango versions (7713, 7714) on my HSPL HD7 and they're both working great. Altough they're listed as unlocked, I can't install homebrew Apps. Error notifications like Tom XAP Installer's "Please make sure your phone was unlocked!" appear
There are a plenty of comments confirming the functionality of those Rom's, but in my case it doesn't work. Anyone out there having the same issues (and solutions) ?

The roms are unlocked. Try using Xapdeployx or Application deployment(Windows phone developer tools) for sideloading apps. Tom's xap installer no longer works with mango roms
Thank you for your answer
I've tried Xapdeployx and Application deployment, but they both tell me, my phone is locked. I'll look that up, too, but perhaps you can help me one more time?
I worked it out now. I downgraded from 7714 to 7713 again and tried XAPDeployX once more. Fortunately, it installs all my apps without any error thanks

How hard is it to install the custom Rom on HD7S? I'm kind of worried with all this hspl rspl stuff I don't really get it! Can someone make a video or maybe a clearer right up? Also does the rom have wifi tether or eve usb tether?
Rom is unlocked, you have to update zune to version 4.8, after that you will be able to install apps

I've HSPL'd my HD7S but as far as I know there are no custom roms out there for the HD7S... am hoping someone will try before I risk anything!
Whats the point of HSPL the HD7S? Will this hinder you from receiving the official mango update on 9/23?

I was hoping that someone would cook a Mango ROM that is unlocked... but so far no dice.
My device is running Mango per the update thread that is knocking around... via Zune 4.8 beta etc rather than flashing a new ROM.
I've been trying to upgrade to Mango and keep my phone unlocked but havent been able to do that following the information on this site. It is all so complicated and seem's to have many different ways blended together, most including ROMS. I'm requesting a simple instructions on upgrading my SPL broken (half bricked) Chewron-unlocked and unbranded HD7 from 7392 to Mango. ... if that's possible?
I've been trying to use U2M7720 but I cant run connection setup after upgrade, and phone is locked in Mango. I have a few backups of my phone and can go back to 7-29-2011 if that helps? (Tried to go there and update all the way to Mango, hoping it would fix the SPL, but it didn't.)
look here...
People I've made it!!
"HALF bricked" True times ...
I have an HD7, and yes I had no boot loader more ...
My WP7.5 Mango has even worked ...
Have performed the unlock of ChevronWP7 Labs.com [leads,
then I've done with a backup (Windows Mobile 7 BackupV1.6)
and then by draufgespielt (WP7 Update Cab station) firmware (schubert_2250.21.50001.728)!
And then I have my HD and started in Boadloader un behold
My Boadloader is back! HURRAY
Is indeed not at all .... How COOL!
Thanks!
Thanks! I'll try this. I have all the files except the firmware itself. Still loocking.
Need a step by step guide.
Hi
I've only started the learning process for modifying my WP7 as of today but in the past 7-8hrs (not kidding, I'm a semi-nerd LOL) I've learned a ton of stuff. I come from Android and Blackberry so this is new territory for me and my stock WP7 is absolutely boring me to death with those 10 dumb color options and very minimal ability to customize the phone. I just need a little clarification on a few things before I start tweaking stuff that I can't un-tweak later. I've tried searching everything I can with a screaming 11mo old with me all day before typing this up. So forgive me if I missed a thread out of the 50 billion on here
I currently have the AT&T HD7S, never modded, SIM locked, totally virgin phone. When I bought the phone I'm assuming it was running the NoDo version (correct my if I'm wrong) because I had to manually upgrade to Mango myself after unboxing. So here are my ?'s...
1.) Is it true that there's currently no way I can roll back to NoDo in order to be able to flash this ROM? I read the official Mango update modifies the bootloader so that HSPL can't be used BUT HSPL is needed to be able to load custom ROMs. I have the official Mango but I want custom ROMs/themes (catch22'ish) =/
2.) Initially I hooked this phone up to a PC laptop I no longer have. Is that where my backup exists? Will this potentially cause a problem in the future? My Zune software currently shows no updates available and no restore info below. I read somewhere if you don't have access to your own backup you can use someone else's as long as it's the same phone model and carrier. How does that really help when it comes to my own personal data or does that not matter? Not sure what sort of data is stored within a WP7 backup.
3.) As far as dev-unlocking the phone...as of earlier tonight the Chevron site wasn't allowing token purchases. Is there some way around this using some other tool AND/OR does the Chevron unlock even work on an HTC phone? I have a feeling the answer is no but I'm asking anyway. Also, if I can eventually dev-unlock does that override the need to SIM unlock?
4.)Is there any sense to interop-unlocking if I'm not a developer? All I'm wanting at the moment is the ability to change up my phone. Baby steps...
5.)Can you sense there's something I've missed? LOL
My main goal here is to load this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271118&page=11and/or themes and eventually start learning more advanced parts of the process. There's just SO much to this OS and 500 threads leading to 500 other threads when I'm just trying to figure out what one simple term means so I'm just hoping someone can help me sort out what I might be overlooking. Pls excuse my n00bness Everyone here is a friggin' genius in my eyes so all feedback is appreciated. I'll get there eventually. Thanks in advance!
**UPDATE** Just noticed on that ROM thread page it says it comes with dev-interop unlock...now I'm even more confused D:

shameless bump, someone has to know
1. Use the method in this thread and follow each step to the letter (it worked for me)
2. Yes you are correct. The back-up is store on the PC. It backs up the users data (ex: music, photos, settings) I never tried using someone else's back-up, but I don't see why not.
3. Most custom roms are unlocked. I'm using the DeepShining Mango and it is unlocked. In terms of being carrier unlocked, it will remain no matter.
4. Interop unlocking is for:
Registry editors and provisioning tools
File explorers
Accent color changers (uses the registry)
Examples: WP7 Root Tools, TouchXperience apps
So if that's what you're after, then it's a must for a dev
5. Nope you've pretty much covered it all haha

Thank you SO MUCH!!!! I have been waiting hours for someone to reply to this! DeepShining Mango is exactly the ROM I'm wanting to load. You're awesome *high five *
OOH one quick thing....HSPL is available for HD7S T9295? Just checking bcs I've confused myself on that and the interop-unlock stuff. Thx
**EDIT** NM just saw Schubert T9295 (PD29150) is supported on the thread for RSPL/HSPL download...geebus I hope I'm reading this right
Once you can get the HSPL to replace the SPL,you start flashing the dev-rom. So as ssimple as it is, very 1st step is to checkyour original ( or virgin ad you said) SPL then flash it with DFT rspl or HSPL. After this you can start flash whatever rom you want to have experience with.

Hey my question is the following.
Seeing as the Interop Unlock doesn't work for any HTC devices older than version 7720 I'm gonna try the following:
Restore a 7720 backup onto the phone, hard reset it and entirely start over.
Thing is, I dont own a 7720 backup anymore and I really dont wanna try flashing myself.
Question: Can anyone upload his/her 7720 backup from a European HTC HD7 (I'm Belgian btw) so that I can try this proces and hopefully get the interop unlock done this way without flashing?
I wanna start all over for the reason that my phone is draining my battery faster than a $20 hooker when the Navy ships come into port.
[edit]: If I hard reset now it will show up as a Mango phone with 8107 standard on it, which is NOT entitled to be Interop Unlocked, till Heathcliff comes up with something awesome!
[edit2]: In case you still have your 7720 backup available from Zune backup at this moment, you can find it under
"C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update", its the file that looks like "f3874e8d - c6f37f88 - c1504a27 - f0452346" that I need
[edit3]: I did read that backups are phone specific but it wouldnt hurt to give it a shot as I really dont want to flash
Any help / link to the backup is highly appreciated!
as you, yourself, said... back-ups are device specific. so, not worth it.
if the reason you want to revert back to a previous version is because of battery...
01. why not try a different Radio?
02. why not reset?
03. maybe try a Custom ROM? ...though that means flashing.

Well was worth a shot, what I had in mind that if i used that backup, I would have the stuff aka device of said person. Then hard reset and my system would be wiped clean, starting up with 7720.
01) I might try a different radio but I after searching a bit I found a few posts saying that the radio wont do much for the battery, well maybe a bit but not noteworthy.
02) I did try a reset, it starts up with 8107 then, and the battery IS fixed then... problem is, you cant interop unlock anything above 7720, which I kinda really need
03) I've read some tutorials about flashing a custom rom, and they all say to revert back to NoDo before even attempting it... thing is, I cant find any NoDo European rom (the links are dead). And even if I manage to find one (found just the one) its a branded one, while my phone is an unbranded phone.
Also that guide said in the comments that an unbranded phone is only flashable to NoDo with the goldcard method, which I'm not fond of using frankly.
So I guess I just have to wait till Heathcliff comes up with a way to interop unlock v2 mango devices
Thanks for your reply though!
01. everybody gets different results with battery... perhaps your device would greatly benefit from a different Radio. the great thing is, flashing a new Radio won't touch the OS.
03. did you see the tutorial i wrote? link in my signature.
also, i fixed all the download links on the XDA Wiki Shipped ROMs page. link in my signature, as well.

01) Ah ok, I might try the radio thing then, only difficulty is that there are so many and no real threads saying which one could be more beneficial than which. (I know much of this is based on the personal device instead of the OS)
Especially I just read that it wont touch the OS, which I initially thought it did in some way.
03) however I did see the tutorial and im inclined to try that as well. The only issue is that I would like to use the 7.5 shipped ROM if any but that leaves me with 3 questions.
--> I see the HTC HD7 non shipped ROMS section, seeing as I'm from Europe there is only one (the european one) non shipped ROM under Mango, are you certain that that is the one I need? aka does that work on my HTC HD7 for sure?
--> Which is the version of that Mango, is that the 7720 I asked in my original thread or is that an updated version, like 7740 or so? (seeing as it says "Test ROM")
--> Or would you recommend using the "Windows Phone 7 Unbranded ROMs (NoDo)" and if so, there are 2 European ones, seeing as I'm a total noob on that, which one belongs to my phone and why? (cause 1 says ROM 3.03 and the other 1.70 which is a huge difference but no clue in what.. :$)
Thanks in advance, the answers gotten have been very helpful so far!
[edit] The ROM I just asked these 2 questions about.. I'm sorry to say this but I can't download it for the simple reason that apparantly the download button wants to go to MegaUpload but that site has been thrown offline by the FBI as you propably know.
01. visit the Radio Wiki page, instructions are there.
03. only use Shipped ROMs, not Test or Unbranded ROMs.
what is your device's Firmware revision number and Bootloader version?

For the wiki link, I've found that and I will try this unless the ROM works, seems like a more permanent solution. Its propably some app using battery without me knowing so just wanted to perform a hard reset, which is impossible without my 7720 backup (for interop reasons)
What I didnt really get out of that topic and related ones refered to in that topic is if I pick a radio above the one I now have (the mango with tethering) for say a 5.51...radio from preNoDo, will I lose anything special, like the tethering itself or is that just a "title name"?
---
But I have an unbranded phone, wont it be bad to put a branded ROM on there or will that mather be erased when I hard reset after putting the ROM on?
Or am I missing the whole point of Branded ROM here, I thought that had to do with things as if you were a AT&T user or Tmobile user or summit cause I am neither of the above. As I said, first time.
It's just that on some threads for custom HD7 roms I've read that if you have an unbranded phone and want to downgrade: "forget it". Which is exactly what I have imo.
Firmware revision number: 2250.21.51004.401
Bootloader version: 5.10.2250.0 (132968)
[edit] I am that far (I know it's yet to begin ofc) that i've finally started the download of "RUU_Schubert_S_HTC_Europe_4.05.401.02_Radio_5.69.09.29a..." file (the only European file under Mango, 7720, the one above Ethernet Sharing)
01. that is just a label really; informing where the Radio originated from.
02. 'Unbranding' is really 'Branding' to the Europe Shipped version. the Europe Shipped version, however, isn't set-up to a particular brand [read: carrier], therefore 'unbranded.' make sense?
03. you should be Europe branded... therefore, on that XSPL Tutorial, you should be able to downgrade your 5.xx Bootloader using Step 06's method.

Ok, that does make sense. Way more than the information I read on several other topics, wherefor thank you kindly!
I shall take note of the 06's method to downgrade my bootloader.
That leaves me with 2 small questions, there's a little section called "if RSPL'd and HSPL is desired". I have no clue what that is, should I just follow the steps and do as it says anyways or is that optional (refering to "if desired")?
And secondly, "38. download ROM of choice. Shipped ROMs are available, here."
I am downloading "RUU_Schubert_S_HTC_Europe_4.05.401.02_Radio_5.69.09.29a_22.50.50.21_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE.exe" which should be the correct 7720 ROM for my phone (hopefully?). By "ROM of choice", does that mean I can put Deepshining or NextGen+ on there as well or isnt that an option for my Unbranded HD7? (like they both warn for in their install tutorials)
Now that I think of it my phone is like you said Branded to Europe, which means they warn for "unbranded ROMs" like the one in your siggy's third link amirite?
---
But that aside, I thank you very much for the help, it's highly appreciated, now lets hope my HD7 wont brick on me and I'll be a happy man *moves mouse to the "Thank" button*
01. RSPL is a temporary SPL, which reverts back to OSPL after reset. HSPL is a permanent SPL, which replaces OSPL. so, if you don't want to go through the hassle of RSPL'ing every time you want to flash a Custom ROM... i suggest HSPL'ing.
02. with XSPL, one can flash any Schubert ROM, including Custom ROMs, yes.
03. unsure what you are asking, sorry.
Basically what I was asking if flashing the Mango 7720 shipped ROM works, if I could use this method (seeing as the tutorial says "Rom of choice") to Flash NextGen+ instead?
Cause in that tutorial (could be the one from Deepshining too) there's a line that says if you have an unbranded ROM dont even try to downgrade the bootloader cause that'll brick the phone.
But from the info you just gave me I can make up that my phone's ROM is not unbranded but Branded to Europe or am I that far off?
(meaning that I can in fact downgrade the Bootloader and Flash a custommade ROM instead)
[edit] being this kind of a noob and all I kinda got what HSPL and RSPL does, but what is XSPL? You've mentioned it in a previous post in HD7 General but cant seem to find any down-to-earth info. Its not in the tutorial either, unless XSPL just means Bootloader 3.xx or 2.xx, then I got it
So if i want Deepshining (aka custom ROM) I need to do XSPL instead of RSPL or HSPL? (XSPL, for custom Roms, I assume... means I need step 19 instead of 06 or run through everything from bootloader 5 -> 4 -> 3 to get to step 19 aka XSPL)
---
Summing up, if I want the 7720 mango I do step 06 and continue at 30.
If I want a custom rom for say Deepshining I do step 06 -> 09 and from then on every step till the bottom? If that's correct I got the picture
(Thanks for the effort here btw)
XSPL is basically ?SPL, meaning it refers to both RSPL & HSPL.
during the downgrading Bootloader process and the XSPL process, only Shipped ROMs can be used. only once XSPL is installed can Custom ROMs be flashed to your device.
does that answer your questions?

Well now you see how much of a student I still am, but yes I think I got it
Refering to your tutorial, I see 2 scenarios
* I want the 7720 mango I do to step 06 and continue at 30.
* I want a custom rom for say Deepshining I do to step 06, then continue with 09 and from then on every step till the bottom?
If that's correct I got the picture and my questions are answered entirely
hmm, well, i haven't ever actually tried ansar's SLSPL before... so, i can't tell you what exactly to do after using it. maybe report back here after installing SLSPL, then i can guide you where to go from there?
Ok I will, I'll start right now and see where that brings me, starting off with step 01, downloading Task 29 and 00. Then the SLSPL.
Lets hope for a nonbrick
Ok, I now have
Os version: 7.10.7720.68
Bootloader version 4.5.2250.0
I assume I continue with step 09. in your tutorial if I want Deepshining ROM or stop if I'm happy to interop unlock my phone now and update to 8107 through Zune?
yep, continue to Step 09 on the XSPL Tutorial.
Okiedo, next step
Downloaded "Schubert_Europe_1.54.401.01_Radio_5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10U"
Did steps till 18.
Bootloader: 1.54.2250.0
[edit] nevermind what I wrote here, continueing with step 30 seeing as you suggested HSPL instead of RSPL seeing as I read that RSPL voids waranty or summit.
What is the difference "DFT_HSPL_WP7FG1_INSTALL" & "DFT_HSPL_WP7FG2_INSTALL". I know its Gen 1 & 2, but which one do I have and how do I check or is it just NoDo = G1 and Mango = G2, in that case I have to launch G2?
two rar files..? if referring to XSPL, only need FG2 aka the latest version.
There we go, HSPL3.1.2250.0
CotullaHSPL 0x07
So now I have the downloaded and extracted Deepshining ROM, I have "RUU_signed.nbh"
I run Task 29 or the ROMupdateUtlity.exe (inside the ROM) and that should be the end?
[edit] every time Deepshining comes up with a new rom or I want any ROM installed I have to go through all these steps again right? Or can I just flash another ROM on there as I desire, aka an updated version of Deepshining for example?
