[Q] Forgot .pit file in Odin...now stuck - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I got a bit cocky after previously flashing a T-Mo Tab and didn't carefully (re) read the directions (I know...dumb..dumb...dumb).
Anyhoo, I rooted a factory AT&T Tab that was running Froyo, I verified the bootloader was not locked with the downloaded .apk..and began flashing BG stock (en route to Overcome) with only the PDA and Phone files selected....no .pit and not repartition checked.
The load went to about 90% then Odin "stopped unexpectedly". The device is currently stuck on the download screen showing the stuck progress bar. I am keeping it like this to drain the battery.
I have to confess that I actually did this same thing once before (on a unit that was returnable). I have only NOW determined that it is almost certainly the lack of the .pit that is causing this. I know from this previous experience that if I force the unit to power down...it will do nothing..no restore...no download. Therefore, I am keeping it in this state to drain the battery quicker.
I found another poster on the forum that has the ability to "un brick", but I am hoping that after the battery drains I can get to the download screen and Odin again.
Anyone have any thoughts? Am I likely to recover after the battery drains? Time will tell I guess...but I am anxious!
Thanks much...
p

Sorry...obviously I was flashing GB (GingerBread) stock.
TIA...p

If its in download mode doesn't ODIN recognise it? If so, just reflash with all the necessary files...
If you drain battery you might not get it working again. There have been people with problems like this....

Odin "sees" it as evidenced by yellow in COM port...but upon attempt to flash it fails to connect - load never starts.
Thanks for your reply anyway.

1st post, w00t!
Mine did something similar. After multiple attempts at getting Odin to connect, it finally did. I basically had to put it into download mode 5ish times. Pressed the 'reset' button in Odin a few times, unhooked it from the USB cable a few times.
I wish I could be more specific, but I don't remember the exact process, sorry . What I can tell you is that I was able to charge it over night by just leaving it plugged in and from what I could tell, it was powered off.
Best of luck mang!

Thanks for the note.
I wish I COULD put the device back into download mode.
Completed dead now....
Looking at un-bricking options (Samsung, private party, etc..)

try a re flash of another ROM preferably a stock ROM then start all over again, similar thing happened to me earlier, i am quite new to all this but i dont know if its the kernel or lagfix i had what caused this...
i re flashed back to froyo and then installed darkys ROM then re installed my kernel last.. all is good (for now)
worked for me first time but when i went to sgs tools to upgrade your apps ie gallery, camera, it said no busybox installed but went ahead and done fine in v8.0 and i see that cwm changed from red to green too went to market for busybox to download it but when it goes to install phone just reboots all the time mmmm...
Easiest way out of cycling boot:
pull battery
place it in
bring phone in download mode (not recovery!)
prepare Odin with a stock ROM
connect the phone to your PC and give it a kick thru Odin
When done feel free to switch again to Darkys (8.0) with wipe (you will loose data) and afterwards upgrade to 8.1.

YES !!! i agree, it is a pain.. but we love our phones and we would do anything for them its always best to flash back to standard FW if you ever get a problem...
I myself experienced this. Whenever I installed a new software, it would just boot. I got fed up because darky's forums are also down and there is no discussion. flashed doc's rom. Now everything is fine.
...mh... but it's not caused by Darkys ROM. This cycling boot feature may appear at all ROM, at all lag fix actions and so on. It depends how proper you interact with phone- and ROM-features while configuring. A lil disturbance during your session (by you or battery issue or whatelse) or a not so well prepared basic from where you start and your unlimited-feature-wishlist-and-paint-it-golden-one-click-action is enough to interrupt the whole thing and run into trouble.
It was and is all the same - since DOS or C64. And it will be the same, even when iPhone is on level 12.x or Android will be able to beam you elsewhere thru the barcode scanner.
It's a game. Nothing more. And game means lot of fun - and in the beginning a certain thrill when your phone stuck first time and you are thinking: "... f*ck... bricked..."
yup same for me
cycle boot thing
didnt enable download mode before that....
can get into debug screen thou but wiping it doesnt help

Thanks guys for all the replies. Now I did try flashing a stock rom but with no results. Was still having the same thing happening to me. If you guys can give me the link to the files you used to solve this problem, that would be great. Also just for your information I have a Bell i9000m unlocked running on fido. And NO its not an sd card failure lol.
As for DarelSteilz85, I did make one of those JIG usb for myself. It easy, just get the micro usb and strip it bare to the point you can see the pins on the usb which usually are connected to the wires and get a resister to connect one pin to another. Now for which pins, I remember it was 4 and 5 that you had to connect through the resistor but double check as I am not sure. Also the resistor has to be a certain level which I forgot so double check that also. Good luck.

[Q] Can't boot without Charger/Usb

Hello
I had some trouble with a bricked SGS for about 3 weeks ago but got it on the run again with some flashing help.
Now i have this strange problem. If i turn it off or if it just goes black out, which it has begun to do after i flashed it, then it can't turn on, it just show the sun looking loading icon and then a empty battery icon and then turns off.
I can't load recovery mode with the combo, but i can make the download mode combo work.
But if i connect the phone with the charger/usb i recognize it and show that it charging up. Now it boot and shows the Galaxy I9000 model no. image.
Had tried flashing newer versions From XXJPO -> XXJPY -> XWJS3 and both with and without pre-partition and it still occur.
Now the question: Does any of you experienced people know this problem and can it be fixed somehow ?
Thank you in advance
First i would liik to charge phone for 24 hours and also check with another battery .

The battery don't seem to be defected. Once the phone is booted with a cable connected, it goes without problems. It just will not boot without a charging signal.
Bump - Still actual
Try using Block 2 Odin method here to go back first to Eclair and if that works test phone then upgrade to Froyo .

Hello everyone,
I too have the same issue as stated in the first post.
I even had issue sometimes that when boot up.
The USB notification icon wouldnt turn off even if i wasn't connected.
Some threads suggested that I clean the USB port, which i did and nothing changed, even if it looked a little bit dirty in there (Hard to say since it is really small).
Now the USB port looks just as new but same issue: I cant power on the unit witout having it connected with a power cord.
Also, when offline in download mode, Odin detect the unit and I can flash my device (Which I did yesterday by flashing UGJH2 re-partition and UGJL2 not re-partition) but when boot up, I can't make it to sync up with the computer. No sync possible (Also now I'm not rooted anymore).
The unit is under warranty but since it is unlocked with a tool that needed rooting to lock back, abviously I would need to be rooted again but to do it, I need to be able to sync it with my PC (No cant do here).
I have some engineer at work that offered me to check it out for me, they think it is related with the USB port, but I'm worried about the warranty seal. I found how to disasemble it but does anybody knows where it could be located on the I9000M from bell (Vibrant)? Does it have one?
Anybody have any better suggestion or a second opinion, please?
Its my 3rd Galaxy S from Bell and Samsung is now the last company I would think when buying a new mobile.
EDIT: Did the Block 2 Method and now it doesnt even want to boot at all (Did the JPY_JPY_JPY.tar part), now it shows the loading sign even faster and the battery doesnt even show it self at all.
Hello again people!
Got my friend engineers to open the phone and they didnt find anything that would cause my issue (Also no warranty label...).
Does anybody knows how to root a Galaxy S with Froyo without a PC?
I want to return my phone to Bell Canada under warranty but my phone is unlocked and I want to lock it back before sending it back and I need to be rooted to do so...
Thanks for your help!
I got the same problem here. Could someone tell me more on this. What is this Block 2 ODIN method?
this problem can be caused by water or sweat that got inside the case of your sgs.
the biggest hole in the case is micro-usb port) i think condensation accumulated there and locked some contacts.
try to disassemble the phone and carefully clean and dry it.
this helped me.

I had a more complicated version of this. couldn't format, couldn't mount, nothing. My tab showed this, I tried flashing several different kernels/roms/cwm, everything, nothing. Actually made it worse. It got to a point where when I powered on, I only got the backlit softkeys. A few times I got a weird image I've never seen before. Something about bad or unknown upload mode (with a little droid in teh corner....should have taken a picture). And finally I would get nothing; HOWEVER, if I plugged my tab into my laptop and gave it a few seconds, ODIN would see it. I could try flashing a kernel, but it would never process, just hang at the first step so....
with the tab plugged into the laptop and ODIN showing a connection, I would hold VOL DOWN + POWER until I see it disconnect (this is evident of a power down since I have no lights to indicate that). Once it disconnects (yellow box disappears) you can let go of POWER but do NOT release VOL DOWN. It will reconnect shortly thereafter. You are now in Download mode (whether or not you actually see anything on the tablet. You can test this theory by flashing something. What fixed it for me? I downloaded firmware from samfirmware.com. Specifically I downloaded JJ7 v2.2 (full file name I used was P1000XWJJ7.rar) I think what made the difference was using all 3 files. I did not use a PIT file, I put P1000XWJJ7-REV03-ALL-CL669843.tar.md5 in the PDA box, MODEM_P1000XXJK5_REV_00_CL690077.tar.md5 for Phone, and GT-P1000-CSC-MULTI-OXXJK2.tar.md5 in CSC. I did NOT check repartition. Now, this was after I had tried several things like flashing PIT by itself, different stock kernels, full ROMs, etc.... This was the final step I took. Now I'm back to normal.
I'd be interested to see if this solves anyone else's problem. I am so thrilled that I just fixed my "bricked" tab (no power, no response, no apparent charging even) that I'm hoping my time and effort can help someone else.
Let us know what happens. I am actually scouring the forums now because I know at least 2 others were having similar problems as I and maybe this will help them as well.
BTW, I did lose EVERYTHING on the internal SD, including all my backups. Thankfully I always made backups to External
P.S. I should mention it is an AT&T (GSM) Tab.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think your version of galaxy tab is different with mine and I am not sure that it will work. I am really desparate for solution. This disaster started when the tab's battery is low and suddenly off and when it's charged and turned on it bricked
Point being, tabs are tabs. You will need to use the same procedure, but a different ROM that is designed for your tablet. Go there and find a ROM. There is a thread about unbricking your tablet, I think in the Android Development section that should have a link to samfirmware.com and may provide you with a ROM version that should work. something that may help: plug your tab into the charger at least overnight. I used the stock charger and cable and charged it for 12 hours or so. I did not get any indication that it was charging since the screen and softkeys would not respond, but it did charge.
Of course, I look back and I think you have an indicator, but still a good idea. Try it anyway. Can't make it worse, eh? Mine seemed hardbricked, but it wasn't. I was real close to taking it apart before I found something that works. I believe, IMO, what really fixed it is flashing ROM (PDA), Modem, and CSC files all at once. It could have been something else, but that was the last thing I did before it finally booted.
Go to samfirmware.com, create a free account, and sign in. Then go here (I think your tab is a P1010, correct?) http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1010.htm
and Download this:
1010XWKC1 ## MULTI - CSC - OXXKC1 P1WIFI 2.2.1 2011 March DOWNLOAD
(click on DOWNLOAD)
Unzip that file you just downloaded
Start ODIN
Hold VOL DOWN and plug in tab to computer
I believe 3 files should be in the .rar (you can use 7-zip to open, Google it)
the MODEM file goes in Phone.
the CSC file goes in, you guessed it, CSC
last one is PDA.
I think I just rewrote instructions that can be found in the Galaxy Tab Bible. lol. This is what I would do. It worked for me.

do a quick search of the dev thread for EA24 and you should be able to find the original SPH-P100 files. then you can find the EB28 and EF17 updates as well to get all the way to the official GB release.

I have the T-Mobile version of this, but here's a guide and download files to recover your stock ROM. You can follow the entire guide if you want the Overcome ROM as well:
Guide:

Downloads:

Good luck!
NOTE:
Sprint modem is not listed, but you can fix that later. If you can get it to work with this guide & using the last modem file, we can go from there.

[Q] Yellow Triangle Issues

I was using the instructions from here to remove the yellow triangle from my Note N7000, and found that other people have had similar issues to what happened with mine (on page 34 of thread). I flashed the 1.tar and get the complete black screen as the instructions state (step 6) ... but from step 7 onwards, I have no response at all from my phone. I have 2x Jigs, and have attempted to use both to get this fixed, but I am not able to get phone to reconnect to ODIN. People have reported the same issue, but to no response.
I had a Galaxy Note N7000 on Telstra (Australia) but unlocked from network, running CM9 4.0.3 and was trying to flash to 4.0.4 when I got the yellow triangle. Can't check any other the other stats at present as obviously, my phone is a brick. Anyone got any super secret squirrel tricks that will get my phone back so I don't need to take it back to Telstra to get them to fix it.
Further to the above, answering some questions already asked in original forum, battery had a charge, but when I attempt to connect to charger to confirm, get no battery charging symbol on screen, get nothing at all.
When connecting the phone to Odin 1.85, and 1.87 for Steps 7-9 and the Jig Bought from here as well as making one myself, still no joy.
Any assistance will be appreciated, or am I going to have to revert to the devil to get a repair due to a hardware fault?

At points 7-10 the screen will not work!
Follow the rest of instructions and your phone will be all set..
My Point was that even after steps 7-10, nothing happens. Follow them to the t, and don't get my screen back, still just have a brick.
No feedback from device, device won't connect with Odin at step 10 (No COM:XX comes up) ... and device doesn't even register with PC as being connected. Different USB Slots used everything tried, and I have scoured every post pertaining to a yellow triangle in XDA, still without having any joy in getting this fixed. :crying:
Further to the above, it was step 5 that lead to this result. From step 5 onwards, I haven't been able to use my Note. Which makes me a sad panda.
Just trying to find a way to fix it rather than sending it back to Telstra to try and get a warranty repair ... if I can.

Just to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong, got the stop watch on my G15 out, and timed everything to the T, making sure that the battery wasn't in for longer than expected etc, and this was after having the phone on charge since my last message. Still to no avail. Follow the prompts of taking battery out etc, boot into download mode, push volume up to accept the download mode, connect to PC with Odin Loaded, and then without Odin Loaded, and no response from PC, so Phone isn't responding to the Unbricking, or the computer isn't responding. This was tried in my 3 free USB ports tonight, with no luck.

Giga Bricked Note.

Today, my Note got extremely bricked, that I could not believe a phone like that could get so easily blown up.
I get this "Firmware update encountered an issue. Please select recovery in Kies and try again." message while it's rebooting every second.
I got this by making a huge mistake, using the re-partition option with the included .pit file, thinking it would factory-wipe the phone before downgrading... well, it didn't. Now, I can't barely access Download Mode or recovery because of, what I assume, low battery. It's charging now and it doesn't look like it. It reboots itself every 5 sec while it's plugged in. Before that, I used the JB leak and began to hate it because of it's damn instability. I wanted the stable, stock, ICS that came with it. I never had any problems like that on Xperia S.
Hell, even Odin can't ****ing save it because of the reboot-problem. I begin to think that, for the first time ever, I have to send this pile of **** back to Samsung and get a new one by saying, Kies ****ed up my phone.
Is there a solution that DOES NOT INVOLVE A DAMN USB JIG for this phone?
If you got the error in kies you could have followed the kies emergency firmware recovery option. Reflashing with a pit file is only for when you have triggered the emmc brick bug is my understanding. Look for the thread with the unbricking guides and hope for best. If not then it looks like service centre...........

Did you really read and combine this two sentences? Sometimes people should read the warnings (here about the reasons why NOT to use a pit) and follow them.
But first of all you should recharge the battery outside your device. When you're sure it's "reloaded" try download mode again and install a prerooted Stock Rom (like GB LC1 3-part) and check if you can install and after reboot into a stable device again.
Maybe it isn't so bad forever only for a few hours.

Maybe it isn't so bad forever only for a few hours.

Wait, I have to charge it outside the phone? What kind of charger only charges the battery outside the phone?
just find someone with the same phone in your neighbourhood and charge in another phone...that's the easiest way..
I have flashed my note multiple times now and it never crossed my mind to use a .Pit file..
By the way, have you thought of leaving the battery out for a few minutes? I got that Firmware issue message before because the power went out while I was flashing my phone from my PC.. Then I just left it out for a few minutes and was able to boot back into dowload mode again
After the emmc brickbug:
The custom pit file may work but trust me after a few moths you going crazy with your phone... it freezes randomly on every rom and wont charge randomly. When you wake up.. phone frozen and battery is on 0% ... i lived 2 weeks with this then i gave it to samsung and they changed the mainboard for free now im happy
