I have a Samsung Galaxy S (GT-i9000) running the stock Android 2.2 ROM! I'm currently situated in India and according to Samsung, the Gingerbread update for my phone has started rolling out via Kies. The problem is that once i connect my phone to the computer and search for updates, it says that there are no firmware upgrades available! I have the latest version of Kies installed.
My firmware info is this (got it by dialing *#1234#)-
PDA : I9000JVJPF
PHONE: I9000JXJPD
CSC : I9000ECTJP9
Build Info : 2010. 11
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9
root at SE-S606 #73 (couldn't use the 'at' symbol thanks to the rules )
If applicable, I have bought this phone from the UAE and am using it in Mumbai.
What do I have to do to get the official Gingerbread onto my phone?!
Kies only allows the update if the device country matches the country where the kies is installed. You can change the country of your device by using some tweaks, so that it reflect india to kies. Search in the forum for changing the product code. But, REMEMBER changing the product code will void your warranty

sorry but looked through quite a few pages about the 2.2.1 upgrade and is it avaiable on UK 02 or do I have to do something special ??
I am new to the Glaxaxy S and have tried the search so appoligies if the answer is lurking somewhere.
I have plugged my phone in to Kies checked for a firmware upgrade and get the following Current version: PDA:JP6/Phone JP3/CSC: JP3
The latest version is already installed on connected device.
Thanks for looking
Currently it is only rolled out to Product code XEU and CPW if your product is either of those then kies will inform you have an upgrade. The Upgrade is JPY, if your product is not either of those then you will need to use Nodial Registry patcher for Kies to spoof XEU.
well i have xxjpo for my Samsung galaxy s i9000 unlocked no carrier bloodware non rooted still have the original launcher and since the leak of 2.2.1 there has been loads of xx??? files so confused i also want to wait for official release do any of you know what the official firmware will be called as well ?
Are you in thee UK or Ghana? If in the UK then your phone should be XEU as it is unbranded. Open Kies make sure it is updated to version 102 (Kies that is) then connect the phone and check for firmware update. You should be offered JPY. Back up all your Data before updating just in case it is deleted.
i live in london but i am on holiday with my family in ghana i am using a different chip while i am here firmware 2.2 baseband i9000xxjpp kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 build number FROYO.XXJPO when i get back to london i will switch back to t-mobile i have also trouble with kies i will also factory reset after update
Please stick with me as I'm quite new to flashing this device.
A while back I flashed a new firmware to my Tab (Bought from Tesco's in the UK) open to any mobile network.
While my Tesco version said there was no update apparently the Carphone Warehouse version did come with a newer firmware. So after taking a plunge I flashed firmware JM6 (without some encryted keys or something that early adopters got stuck with).
I wondered if Samsung had released any newer firmware officially so today launched Kies and it prompted for a software update. This then uninstalled Kies and installed a new version 2.0.0.11014_49.
My device connects but then Kies states "This version of device can not be updated"
"current firmware version: PDA:JM6 / PHONE:JM6 / CSC:JM6 (XEU)"
Phone info after doing *#1234#
PDA1000XXJM6
PHONE1000XXJM6
CSC1000XAJM6
Does this mean that I will never be able to update through Kies again as it knows my firmware is not stock?
Is there a way to get back to stock or force Kies to install the latest stock
verison for my device like apple does on the iPhone?
Thanks in advance
Lots of us are trying to get our phones back to Stock Firmware so KIES can update to 2.2.1 & at some point 2.3. In my case i9000T Latin America (TTT) model which seems to be very popular on the various US sites selling unlocked i9000 phones (New Egg & Expansys-us)
Many of us have used Euro 2.2 or 2.2.1 Firmware without issue using ODIN 1.3.
What happened in the process of applying the Euro firmware that keeps KIES from updating once you've rolled back to a stock firmware. In my case i9000TUBJH1 which is android 2.1 (ECLAIR.UBJI1) .
I've tried everything from changing the Product Code from KOR, TTT, PCW and any other one that might trigger KIES (1.5 or 2.0) in allowing the update.
I have 2 of these phones. One is untouched stock firmware. It was i9000TUBJG7 and after KIES update it's now (i9000TUBJP9 with a TTT Product Code). again, just trying to get my other phone back to stock and then update to 2.2.1 so both phones are the same.
Which file is KIES looking at to allow the update? CSC?
I'm not sure why the i9000T firmware is not readily available on samfirmware.
Thanks - many of us are just trying to learn the basics and spent hours reading these forums.
Try reading the last few pages of this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959806
why bother with kies anyway i have a 19000t.. just use odin and flash the stock rom form samsungfimrwares.com or a custom one like docs etc..
i am currently on jpy with jl2 modem.
also once you have clockwork on you can also flash one of docs roms via that.
or is it that you are trying to get a stock rom via kies. that is not on samsungfirmwares.com ?
if that is the case i think the reason may be that these stock firmwares were never release via kies?
I bricked my initial handset using KIES as it crashed during the update. Won't be using it again to flash my phone.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Samfirmware & i9000T
No sign of any i9000T (TTT) Latin America firmware on Samfirmware.com. The latest update via KIES for this phone was about 10 days ago. Version i9000TUBJP9 which installs 2.2.1.
Again, just trying to get back to stock. I'll be passing this phone to another user at some point and they'll need KIES to keep it simple.
Any help in understanding what keeps KIES from updating after you've installed stock 2.1 firmware would be great.
I'll keep reading ...
thanks
Kies reads the codes from the phone .
Firmware 2.2 Product Code Vodaphone Hardware ID Vodaphone .
Looks for update for the product code if all matches downloads .
Product Code stock Hardware ID stock matches nothing on its Database = no update .
Route back i have used is flash Eclair spoof product code via Kies registry patcher . Upgrade and save rom at the same time to enable reflash to product codes firmware .

Did you manage to get the update from Kies? You would do a great service if you can share the firmware.
Kies looks at the product code. I replied to your other post.
Hi,
I recently purchased my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and when I connect it to Kies it does not know the firmware version.
It just appears blank on Kies...
Current firmware version :
When I go into the settings of the phone is says Froyo 2.2 but it says
Baseband: Unknown
I cannot transfer any files using Kies and would obviously really really appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Sam
To know baseband version you can check by dialling *#1234#.
I think Kies is not recognising your device due to version mismatch with your device and kies. Best way is to search for kies version compatible with galaxy i9000 from samsung website and install the proper version by downloading.

Thank you for replying!
I uninstalled Kies and installed the version from Samsung Australia's website. Still not working though
I can just add files treating it like a USB but I assume when Gingerbread comes out in Australia in the next few months for the phone I will need Kies to update it?
I also assume it is not good that it isn't displaying the Baseband version?
