[Q] HDMI stops Wifi??? - LG Optimus 2x

Hello everyone,
another day another issue:
I connected my O2X to the TV with hdmi cable to watch a long youtube video (1hour44min) but after a few minutes the video stops and it can't load anymore.
I try to go to the browser version of youtube and my browser doesn't load...finally I go to the settings and under Wifi it says disconnected!!! I tried this several times and everytime hdmi is connected wifi seems to stop working.
Now, I'm sure LG didn't mess this phone up that much, where connecting the provided hdmi cable disconnects wifi....I mean come on surely this would be impossible? right?
Anyone had this issue before? Is the solution to get a new ROM or a new phone?
Cheers

I dont hv this problem, have you tried to reboot the machine and solve the problem?

As far as I remember (I use CM7, not stock) you have to enable TV Out in Settings->Display (or somewhere in Settings )

CM7 doesnt support tv out. only stock rom or custome rom support tv out. just try randomly like this :
y-y
r-r
w-w
try:
y-r
r-y
w-w
or:
y-w
r-r
w-y
If i helped, dont forget to press "thanx"
TV-out has always worked for me on stock/custom ROMs. I use the Nokia 3.5mm to RCA cable from my N85.
Make sure TV-out isn't on, if it is turn it off and reboot. Turn it on after reboot and plug it in to the TV.
This method always works for me. It's also a good idea to turn screen brightness down to the lowest setting to preserve the battery.

Bluetooth Tethering v Wifi Hotspot

Currently been using my Nexus with my GSII and bluetooth tethering for internet access, thinking that bluetooth being lower powered, short range, its probly less demanding on the phones battery.
Does this still apply to modern devices with combined radios?
Also has anyone found a widget to connect/reconnect to a paired bluetooth device?
I think the nexus is going to deep sleep, and closes the connection to the phone. But it doesn't bring it back when it wakes...which means its Settings>Bluetooth>Click on Phone...which is 2 clicks too many!

just got it set up, it works great! Thanks for this, I was using Wi-fi tether the other day, killed all 3 of my batteries
I've been using WiFi tether at work; are you guys saying that using Bluetooth tether is less cumbersome on the battery?
I've been trying bluetooth tether all day today.
I have GSM Galaxy Nexus running official 4.1.1
Nexus 7, on 4.1.1 also.
I get them bluetooth paired up and bluetooth tethered via the Galaxy Nexus' cell data.
It works for like a minute then after that, they would disconnect (unpair from bluetooth).
Been doing this all day long every time I try.
Also the 2 are only 3ft away.
Any Ideas?
EDIT: Just saw this URL from another post.. guess it's a bug: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22369

Same setup, and same issue.
On a side note is there a way to use NFC to automatically pair the two devices via Bluetooth? I'd like to just touch them together and voila they are paired?

Just to pair normally? No.
But if you beam a picture, it auto turns on the bt, pairs, sends the picture, then turns off bt. The two devices does not have to be paired up beforehand either.
Google did show off new feature of NFC/BT at Google I/O during the sessions.
They showed off headphones and speakers that when you touch your JB device to the headphone/speaker, it auto pairs and audio starts playing.
So yes it's possible to auto pair devices, but those other devices need to support it.
This is a known bug with the galaxy nexus phone. It will kill BT tether when the phone goes into sleep.
Download an app called wake lock from the play store and set a partial wake lock and the problem will go away.
Your battery drain will be slightly higher though.

So far it seems to be, which it should as Bluetooth is a short range low powered protocol.
I wasn't sure that with the modern design in phones, when the radio's are all one chip, if the power saving would still apply.

Try turning off your WiFi before pairing....I think that worked for me
Are you guys using that PDAnet and FoxFi setup in order to pair the devices? Thats the only way I can bt pair my galaxy nexus and nexus 7 together.
mmm, nope its native feature in the Resurection Remix rom I'm using on my GSII
Not having any luck installing PDANet 3.5 on the Nexus 7, any ideas?
Got FoxFi installed on my HTC Desire and ticked Bluetooth DUN. Can pair it to tablet but tablet doesn't get any Internet access, so need PDANet installed for that I think.
Edit: PDANet 2.20 on the market was installable, bluetooth tethering working ok now. Really old version though...
Further edit: Looks like it is "PDANet Tablet" version I'm using, hence the confusion. 2.20 appears to be the latest one.
Just tested BT tethering on my N7 with my SGS2 (which was using wifi at the time). Worked perfectly. I did a quick speedtest and got 750kbps down and 1500kbps up (weird wifi...). I was shocked I would get such good speeds over BT. Anyway, I like this option better then a wifi hotspot. First, it's easier to setup. Second, it (apparently) uses less power. And third, it will allow me to access some special hotspots I might not get on my tablet. For example, with AT&T, they give you free hotspot access at some locations with their devices. I wouldn't be able to use my tablet there directly, but could daisy chain through the phone. Coolbeans.
Bluetoothkeepalive works to keep the bluetooth connection for bluetooth tethering. Just trying it out and hasn't dropped yet over about 15 minutes.
OK a little help please. First off nothing is rooted.
I have installed pdanet and fifox on my HTC sensation. I can connect the Bluetooth from my nexus 7 to the sensation but I can't get internet access. I checked the setting in the Nexus "Use for internet access" but still nothing.
What else should I try?
Thanks for your help

Go on the tablet, into Bluetooth, and you should see your phone in there, click on it. It'll then say connected. You'll get internet access.
I have now noticed that the bluetooth connection does drop after a minute or so, which can be a little annoying.
I'll try bluetoothkeepalive.
Another good app to get is Bluetooth Auto Tethering, it keeps tethering as an option on every time your phone boots, no extra interaction on the phone to enable tethering every time. Just enable/disable the connection from the tablet to automatically turn tethering on/off on your phone!

You are right about that, I got stuck on doing that yesterday. As for the general discussion about bluetooth tethering vs. wifi tether. I tried it out today and I can say its much better on the battery life, but the speed is pretty low. I keep doing a speed test on my phone and couldn't get over 1.48 Mbps, then tried wifi tether and was easily getting over 5Mbps.

HDMI vs. Wi-Fi Speed

Hello guys,
I'm experiencing a problem which is NOT good.
I have netflix on my LG P990 and on my PS3. Somedays ago, I've noticed that netflix was kinda lag but only on P990. So I decided to check this out.
The problem has been found: When I connect a HDMI cable to my TV and to LG P990, the wi-fi connection speed drops a LOT. I've been testing with Solid Explorer to check the transfer rate.
With NO HDMI cable connected, I got around 1.5MB/s, at the exactly moment I plug the HDMI cable, it reduces to 200KB/s or less. Sometimes it stops the transfer.
Then, when I unpplug the cable, it starts to go faster again! I've already tested 3 different ROMs: MIUI, CM7 Official and NovaHD ICS (all with FULL wipe) and the problem has been detected on all of 3 ROMs.
Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? I really like Netflix, and would like to use it on my P990 on HDMI cable.
Thank you guys!
did you try another HDMI cable?
Not yet. I will try to get another cable with my cousin to check this out. BUT, I don't think it's the cable. Thanks for you answer.
May I suggest you try this on the official LG 2.3.4 rom too? With full wipe of course.
Could be a bandwidth issues but i think its probably a poor cable.
..
How did you get netflix working with nova hd? I've never managed to get it to work on current ics roms !

Yes, I did. Tested today and got the same problem. I tested with an original SonyEricsson's Micro HDMI cable from a Xperia, and got the same.
Already tested it on another TV with HDMI and got the same.

I don't know how to get it back (and I don't think it's good ideia to go back to Stock ROM, cause this ROM is really slow )
Are there any other options?

I'm pretty sure it's not a bandwith problem. I started a file transfer without HDMI cable connected and got 1.5~1.7MB/s. From the moment I connect the HDMI, after 3 seconds, It's already in 40KB/s and then I unplugged the cable, got 1.5~1.7MB/s again.

I don't have it on Nova HD. I mentioned nova HD beacause I used it to test HDMI on Wi-FI. I use it on MIUI (GB) or CM Gingerbread ROMs
Hey guys,
after some Google search and reading a LOT of stuff, just figured out how to solve or at least get a better wi-fi speed when HDMI is connected.
I've read something about router's configuration on wireless settings could be possibly wrong.
I just logged into my router and chaged the wireless channel from 7 to 1 and eureka! Got it now. Just watched a netflix video without lag and in HD.
Seems HDMI connection when on, still causes some interference on wi-fi, but it's MUCH better now.
Tested with some file transfers as well, and got almost the same speed as without the HDMI connected. Sometimes I get the same speed on both cases.
If I have enough time on these days, I'll test with different channels.
Ps.: Channel 1 worked for me but maybe it's just on my case. Possibly you will have to check different channels on your network.
It's p990 hardware problem
if you plugged HDMI cable and connected to TV, WiFi speed drops very low almost zero
but sometime it works just fine, most of time not,
confirmed this on stock rom and CM7
using CM10 now, haven't tried yet, I think it would be the same.

ErrorMsg: "Make sure your chromecast is nearby"

I got my Chromecast today, I'm not sure why i bought it already as i live in Sweden and i couldn't even get the app from Playstore.
But to my problem. My Chromecast is plugged in the TV. I get the bootscreen on the TV and I see my chromecast id.
In the app on my phone, I see the Chromecast and I can click it to connect to it. It disables the Wifi for a second or two and then turns it on again. I wait for a few seconds and then this pops up:
"Could not connect to your Chromecast. Make sure your Chromecast is nearby." - It's barely a meter behind me.. and I've tried to have the phone just next to it, no difference.
I've tried to factory reset it. Unplug and replug. Reconnected to the wifi on my phone.
The router is brand new and a good one at that. I have a hard time believing that the issue lies within the Router. It's a Asus RT-N65U.
It's kind of dumb as well that one has to go to random forums to get help. Google doesn't even put a contact form anywhere on their Chromecast page.

The setup process doesn't involve your router or home network at all. The issue is either with your phone or the Chromecast itself. Try running the setup from a different device (I believe you can do it from a computer). If that doesn't work, the Chromecast is probably faulty.

After updating it shows a blank screen

So I woke up one morning turn on my TV I notice it was updating and thought nothing about it but then it went to a blank screen. I reset it then it wasn't connecting to wifi then I went on my computer and it says that if I did reset it wouldn't connect to my wifi unless I contacted my router provider. Didn't want to go through so I bought a new one. After I set it up and relaunched it went to a black screen again then exchange it and it happened again. It has nothing to do with the device it's the new update. I hope someone knows how to fix it. Please i like chromecast don't want to return it. Someone please help.

Fix
Mine seemed to be dead too. I tried reseting the device but without any success. The only fix by now is to remove Chromecast from HDMI, but keep power cable plugged in. So i start my tv without Chromecast being connected to hdmi port, and after the led on the chromescast became steady white, no blinking, i would connect it to it. It worked that way. Had to do this before each time i start my tv. I hope it will help u and hope that google will fix this in future update.

Yeah, Build 14651 is having problems booting up for me too. My CC ends up going "blank" when its plugged into my Yamaha AVR. It works fine when I plug it directly into my TV or if I let it boot up while unplugged from any HDMI port.
My other two CCs on Build 13000 work fine with my AVR.
