I'm trying to update my bro-in-laws nook from an old CM7 nightly (somewhere around 23 I think??) to 7.0.3 but I'm having a problem with clockwork recovery...I downloaded RomManager and flashed ClockworkMod. I then tried to backup and update my rom, but as soon as it restarted in recovery, it says
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cach/recovery/last_log
and won't allow me to do anything with it....I try to backup manually and it says can't access data or something like that. any advice would be great and hopefully fast, he's only in town for another 2 or 3 hours!
I had this happen before when I chose the wrong CWR to flash to recovery. From within ROM Manager, select 'flash clockworkmod recovery'. When asked to select your device, choose 'nook color', NOT 'nook color old'. The option for 'nook color old' isn't even available on the newer versions of Rom Manager, but it was there on older versions. Make sure you update Rom Manager, then reflash CWR as above, and it should then work.
Thank you! your post reminded me that the older versions of Nightly's (pre 7.0.1) had the problem of not showing all the apps in the market, so Rom Manager wasn't there, so I didn't think it needed updating...once I updated it allowed me to install the newest version of CWR and fixed (almost) all the problems!

Everytime i try applying update.zip this error message appears.
Tried almost everything possible but can't find a solution for this problem.
How can i get into fastboot-mode?

I also have this problem.
About a month ago Milestone was upgraded through cable to official Froyo.
Today, GOT_RTEU_2_2_1FULL.sbf was flashed with RSD Lite 4.9, using this guide

After going to recovery (x + power, vol up + camera) and trying to update previously copied Open Recovery 3.3, following problem occurs:
Code:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or else)
Screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20342824/2011-06-23 14.09.06.jpg
I've read that I can have my recovery reverted to non-vulnerable because of having flashed official OTA (and I can't undo this step)
Could this be the cause for such error message?
This is my wife's Moto, we really need to put a decent FW on it, stock Froyo is very disappointing

Does it reboot on going to recovery? If recovery is still accessible try clearing data, cache and dalvik.
Smart Flash Tool doesn't touch cache, userdata,nv,fota or lgdrm.
Try patching it with a different recovery.
i installed aroma file manager and deleted recovery folder which includes log and last_log files on cache
now it is ok.
i wiped cache and formatted too.
but it didnt deleted.
i deleted manually and problem solved
thnx
I posted in the all in one tool thread but didn't get any responses yet, so I thought I'd try the Q&A forum..
I unlocked bootloader, flashed CWM, and flashed SuperSU.zip. I received no error messages, but after I reboot, there is no SuperSU installed. If I try to install it from the play store I get "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!" when opening it.
I have tried this installation many times over, even sideloading SuperSU and also tried to install superuser.zip but that gave me an error message saying can't mount or write to /tmp/update.zip or something.
Code:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
-- Installing: /sdcard/SuperSU.zip
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install
E:failed to open last_install: Invalid argument
Finding update package

- Extracting files

Would someone please help me figure out what could possibly be wrong?

What is your issue? Its a 2 years old thread, I'm sure your issue is not exactly the same. What recovery version are you using? What supersu version? What is your rom version?

Yeah sorry I finally realized what stupid mistake I made... I was attempting to root my wife's phone to disable carrier iq, but u was using an old supersu zip... I finally got that to work and now I'm working on disabling carrier IQ using system tuner... I just wish there was a way to completely get rid of it as a whole, but disabling it will have to do... Thanks

Hi
I was able to s-off, install a recovery and root my device OK.
I installed TWRP as part of that process and then installed Clockworkmod while I was testing out Cyanogenmod.
I want to go back to TWRP (or at least Clockworkmod touch) but my phone will only boot into Clockworkmod (non-touch)
Things I've tried:
Flashed TWRP from fastboot
fastboot erase cache
But every time the phone only boots into Clockworkmod 5.x.x.x
The clockworkmod app tells me I have TWRP and Clockworkmod installed already, but same problem when I try to reboot into TWRP from there.
This log comes up in Clockworkmod. Maybe it's relevant:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Anyone kind enough to help I'll be very grateful
Thanks
Flash TWRP, reboot into the phone. Go back to fastboot, flash TWRP again, and check. A different combination may work. It may take a few tries to get it going.
Fixed

Thanks very much. Got it fixed by basically doing what you suggested.

Awesome. Hit my thanks button and edit the OP to mark it [SOLVED]
My goal was to install the ROM JB-4.1.2.
I've rooted my phone with flashtool, uncloked the bootloader also with flashtool and since then everything went great.Next step which wasn't hard at all was to flash the kernel via flashtool and it also happened with great result. The problem appeared when I was turning phone on, the system haven't turned up and my phone had showed only CWM Recovery.I knew that something went wrong but I made full wipe, cache and dalvik cache and installed JB-4.1.2. The CWM has said that system has been installed but when I've tried to boot phone JB didn't show up; again there was only CWM.
I've tried few times the procedure ( installing stock 2.1 android from Update Service, rooting phone with Flashtool, and flashing the kernel) but I'm facing the same problem with CWM.
Maybe I did something wrong, but don't know exactly what; or maybe my phone is not suitable for kernel?
I'm waiting for help!
Did you format the partitions before flashing the rom?
Yes, I did and nothing has changed.I again saw a screen with CWM and under options to choose at CWM I had a message from CWM like that:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Can anybody help with that odd problem?
