Market and Sync Problems ... Incorrect Date/Time - Nook Color General

I'm probably showing my android ignorance, here. But, just in case others are similarly uninformed, let me share what I just learned.
I have multiple devices sharing a single google account. And, I was having problems getting android market to work on both.
Then, earlier today, not only was the market failing, I couldn't sync gmail, calendar, contacts and books.
What I finally noticed was that the time was hosed. Once I set the time correctly on the NC, everything worked again.
Duh!

CM7.0.3, OnDemand 925 Mhz, on 16 Gb SD card

OK 8 months on and I got caught by this and now feel somewhat foolish.
I let my battery run flat and didn't notice that when recharged the date had reverted to 2000 although the clock and time zone looked OK, so in my defence it wasn't obvious.
All worked OK except Google Sync and Amazon market. Google sync gave a fairly unhelpful message that sync was down at the moment but might recover later. I knew that wasn't the case as other syncs on other devices were fine.
I went through a Nandroid restore and 6 hours before I spotted the date was off. Set that and all fixed.
I did eventually find this post but, unfortunately, not soon enough! Hopefully adding a second post might make it easier to find for anybody else caught by this.

New real-time GPS tracking software, BikeTrack Mobile

Somewhat oriented towards cycling, but can be used for walking or driving, this software grabs coordinates from the built-in (or external) bluetooth device and uploads the data to a website in real time. I believe you can also view the current location real time, or the current route, or previous routes! It has a website that you register a user/pass with which also goes into the program for uploading. When you want to view your routes, you go to a slightly different place on the same server and it appears to use Google Maps to overlay the information.
It also has the option to store the data and upload it later.
I've just experimented with it a little, but so far it's quite cool. I see some other related software to this discussed around here, so figured some folks might be interested.
I have found one bug which I'm going to report.. If the data connection gets severed it seems to get confused and can't re-start tracking, then it crashed on me, but no biggie, just started it back up.
I think I'll also make a suggestion for log frequency.. Right now I think it's logging per GPS frequency (1 per second) but for slower moving transportation or for potential battery/data savings, I think it could easily be changed to higher values, such as 1 data point in 5, 10, 15s etc..
Check it out, http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-biketrack-v0-81.html
BTW, no affiliation with the author, just found the SW yesterday and think it's rather cool.

So does this and it works better http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667
this might work better for you
http://free.3dtracking.net/
or the even better solution..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386477
I was going to check out the TrackMe solution but it required .net 3.5 and I didn't want to get into that, as I've heard that can break other software that's written for 2.0.
The other two programs I'll check out, thanks!
Thanks for you email (i will reply to that lateron) and for this thread on the forum, I already had one here! It really was a couple of days college assignment (well the idea was mine, but we had to do something with mobile devices) which I updated so it was usable for multiple users!

Doh, I just searched the Kaiser subforum.
Couple days? Nice! I'd love to see what happens with a couple more days!

[Q] CoPilot Live 8 ?

Anyone else use this navigation software ?
I used it on my Hero without any major problems. It took them an age to get a Froyo version sorted out. Put it on my Nexus One. Its now an excellent example of how to write totally non functional code! I am unable to download maps via the built in map downloader. A definite step backwards by ALK Technologies.
As for any kind of support, that's as useless as their software!
So, unless someone here call prove to me otherwise, stay well clear of this software. Take heed of the comments on the Market about it too.
Hmm works fine for me. You just need to turn on wifi before downloading maps through the app.
What exactly is the problem when you try?
My wifi is on permanently if i am at home or at the office. The maps never download. There is no indication they are downloading either, no progress bar at all. What phone are you running it on ? A Nexus One ?
Yeah a nexus one...
Once you pass all the setup screens and get into co-pilot (with no map), go menu get maps, or updates. Its one of those options. Then you'll see the progress bar.
For some reason or another the download is probably being interupted. Maybe you let your phone sleep and wifi turns off?
Ok will try it yet again. Thanks for the help.
CoPilot 8 .. utterly useless!!
Ok so today I tried to reinstall CoPilot 8 on my Nexus One.
This software is awful! Firstly I was unable to install the voice I wanted, just said File Error. Sorted that out by choosing a different voice. Then tried to download UK maps. Failed every time. Made sure Wifi did not go to sleep just to make sure.
Figured it was time to send emails of complaint to Head Office in the USA. Interestingly enough every single published contact email address for that company bounces... odd eh ? Have given up on CoPilot and doubt I will ever get my money back.
To every one else, think long and hard before you waste your money.
When you bought it through market you should have got a license/activation email from '[email protected]'
Send them an email and it'll automatically create a trouble ticket which they'll respond to.
I have lost count of the number of times I have "raised a ticket" with ALK. Interestingly the moment they reply (in any way, useful or not) they close the ticket. Pointless if the problem has not been resolved. They are very difficult to get in touch with (in a sensible way), perhaps this is deliberate? Given the very poor comments on the Market about this application I can understand their desire not to communicate with the many angry people who purchased this application and are unable to use it. I guess the next step is to send them a letter and if they still choose to do nothing I will pursue my refund through the UK small claims court system. Perhaps that will make them respond ? Its a shame because on my Hero the software worked reasonably well :-(
I've given up on that cr*p software
Works fine for me. My installation and setup process went very smooth.
Its great when it works properly. I had an issue with license keys after I had a N1 replaced and they sorted it out pretty quickly. If you reply to the email the ticket is re-opened.
Having said that i've seen many complaints on the net about them. If you bought it on a credit card just threaten to charge it back. That'll kick them into gear.
The pattern i've found is that anything 'easy' to fix they handle well, anything obscure or that might take some diagnosis or thought and they keep fobbing you off hoping you'll give up.
Luckily google market has a 24 hour refund period.. if you have problems in setup just hit the refund button. A bit late for you now tho i guess.

I am sorry you are having problems but it is not bad software. I was one of the REALLY early users and had to jump through substantial hoops to get maps installed. Once everything was running correctly though it has proven reliable and I have not had a problem since not related to me upgrading to an unsupported ROM.
Navigation is nice if you are in a well covered area for data but copilot has advantages in spottier areas. I use both depending on my mood and neither is crap.
Are there 2010 maps out for Copilot yet? I've run the latest auto update but I'm still getting 2009 ones .
It told me to turn into a wall yesterday
Could not disagree with you more, I have had a few problems with downloads and activations (I am a frequent rom swapper), and each time theyre customer support was prompt and courteous. Performing account resets or offering advice about side loading maps downloaded using the copilot desktop software (which downloads MUCH faster FYI).
But the real kicker is go off cell grid some time (like camping which i do alot). Google maps will fail on you as it requires constant connection to reload a map if you leave the map screen at any time, Copilot stores maps on the SD card allowing me to find that odd rural route to the highway and re-enable Google maps with all my layers. Its a real life saver off the grid.
I never had any issues with moving to Co-Pilot on the Nexus One (had it installed previously on my Hero). The only gripe I have with the software is that it doesn't disable the onboard speaker when routing audio to bluetooth end up with a echo, raised a ticket.. who knows if it will be fixed.
I've been using a modified 800x600 version of MotoNav that actually works very very well. I think it was yanked out of *gasp* a motorola.
The reg uses one of those 876x600 or something resolutions which will run but will cut off the bottom.

internet connection failing

My hero seems like it should be headed for the trash. Over the past few days I have been noticing problems getting my gmail to sync, browsing the internet and looking up things in the marketplace. I am running stock 1.5 that was rooted. That is it. I have tried going to setting and updating profile then rebooting but doesnt seem to have solved the problem. I also just tried flashing cyanogenmod 6.1.0 release and I was unable to sign into my google account at startup??
The phone does show an internet connection. Opera browser doesnt appear to be having any issues, but any other app does... any advise would be great!
I'm having the exact same problem. I have no idea what to do, I've tried everything for 4 hours now. My internet is so sketchy. Everything from google maps losing connection, to facebook, to a weather widget I have not even getting the weather. Its insane
i'll take the phone to a dumb sprint rep if needed, but what about if they see FLIPZ_PRI and stuff on the phone because it has been rooted? There has to be something here to fix the problem?
If you figure it out let us all know because i am having the same problem. I have done just about everything i can think of. From reflashing roms to 5 different kernals and even different roms nothing helps.
Good luck
well if a lot of people are having the same problem doesnt that seem to sound like a sprint issue??? i have no idea what updating prls and profiles due, but something isnt right.
Been having similar issues myself. From what I've been reading it's a Google server issue which is why you can still browse the web etc... but still like the market isn't working correctly.
Don't take my word for it though...
Internet problems
I've had the same issue on and off all day. I first noticed youtube not working, then facebook and then voice. YouTube wasn't working for a few hours, facebook a few minutes and voice just got working again; all my problems started sometime this morning 10ish.
I'm running Cyanogenmod 6.1.0, 2.42.01.04.27 Baseband, 60670PRL and my kernel is Decad3nc #11
Sprint is currently havng 3G issues, Chicago looks to be fixed (maybe)
as of the last 30 minutes to an hour, all is right with the market and internet on my phone... "YAAAYYY... and there was much rejoicing".... we'll see if it holds
It's a google problem, nothing to do with the phone or the rom

Yeah, Chicago was fixed today. Yesterday I couldn't use Navigation because there wasn't a connection being made to Google's navigation servers.

Yeah, they're systematically fixing it, but it's taking awhile

Text history disappearing

I am in sales and sometimes I text info to prospects and found it handy to use the search text function to locate the exact verbiage and date of the texts I've sent.
Just tried that with something that was maybe for a little over a year ago and it is not there. I have always been able to find the text in the past and now it is gone.
Is there something I am missing or did my OS have a brain fart and delete some of my data?
Try going to the relevant contact and scrolling back (to the top of the conversation) a bunch, maybe? To avoid long conversations making the Messaging hub slow way down, the phone automatically archives older messages. It doesn't delete them, they're just not loaded by default. I'd expect them to still be in the search index, but maybe not; I don't know much about how search is implemented on WP8.1. Scrolling to the top of the convo history forces the phone to load those historical messages again, though, and that hopefully will let you search them.
I tried that before I posted... the history is gone... oldest I have on this person is 4/10/15. Something must have gone south on a random basis... I just checked another contact and while scrolling back, the progress bar(?) on the right side would reset indicating it was accessing the archives and this happened several times and I have yet to get to the oldest history item for the contact.
So I appreciate the input and you are correct, I just don't know what happened to this one contact and then how many other contacts are effected. Strange enough, that 4/10 date coincides, approximately, to the time my OS was updated. Hmmm.....
Darn. Sorry, that sucks. The only other thing I can think of to suggest is to try setting up a phone with your account again (either some other phone, or by hard-resetting your own) and hoping it gets restored from the automatic SMS backup (assuming you have that enabled). I worry that if you hard-reset your own phone you might lose more, though, so it would be good to test with a different phone first and see if it helps before doing it to your own primary device.

I have a Lumia 1520 that is my wife's. Seldom used. Just swap sim cards and hard-restore? Now my phone is a Lumia 920 which run Cyan and no Denim. Would that be an issue once I determine the restore works for my history and then actually restore to my 920? I may be over cautious but I just think a flag may be set saying I upgraded to Denim and then won't be able to restore to my 920.
I've been kicking around a new phone but I really have't seen anything that interests me and besides, my 920 works so why change?

Question Cloned? Mirrored? Hacked? Wtf?

Ok. First thought they got into my gmail, and since all my accounts are linked for recovery options stayed on the reset, uninstall/reinstall, factory reset hamster wheel for a while. Multiple companies customer service for hours, just to tell me it should be working, hang up on me, ask me something completely retarded that i might be doing as the issue, escalate me to another dept. All to no avail. So, i factory reset an old phone not hooked up, brand new gmail not linked to anything, set up google wifi (for 1st time) on it and loaded security camera apps on it. And they still got in and erased all my security videos. Got cameras to not reapond, notifications to not come through even though all says everything was fine. Settings not changed. Before they had been affecting ceetain aspects of apps from Google play. Made it so i couldnt download from there as well. Or if i tried something would get kicked out before i could finish said task. Even changed the "this device" in my google account. Spoofed mac & ips for known devices on wifi. Changed info in every account, still locked out of 3. 4 trips from internet company. 4 routers, 2 extender, modem/router combo, 7 cameras from 2 systems. End result? Me beating my head against the wall telling everyone, sorry but thats not what is happening on my phone/laptop, to evreyone thinking i am crazy and they are still in my stuff. Any thought yo how this is possible? P.s. 100% believe its my meth head neighbors but never would think them clever enough or would have the kind of money to spend on equipment to be able to pull something like this off. Please for the love of God someone help. This is way above my pay grade [email protected]
