[Q] CM7 Reboots instead of Shutdown on Sam Captivate - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I am running CM7 on my captivate and it is the MOST AMAZING ROM, except when i press "shut down" it shuts down then turns on automatically, please any suggestions?

if the phone is plugged in either by usb or a wall outlet then the phone will stay on. However, if you simply just cannot get the phone to turn off.. hmm that is something entirely different. These are just some simple little ideas im sure you've tried already
Try the reboot command.. try battery pulls and seeing if it works.. boot into recovery and wipe cache/davik..

Like when I unplug it shut down it stays off but when I plug it in it turns on..... and my phone charges really quick when its turned off and charging.

the FAQ already addresses this. and please keep these questions to the CM7 Q&A thread instead of opening a new thread. you cannot charge the phone while it is off, it will merely turn the phone back on.

[Q] Phone thinks it is charging

the sgs, when switched off, thinks that it is connected to a charger and that big battery screen shows up, at first the phone wasnt turning off after that.
ive since flashed using odin and 3 files hoping it would help. the phone now turns on but once switched off it continues to think that it is charging.
when i try and reboot, which i must do by plugging in a charger then pressing the power button once charging actually starts a minute later, the phone goes into a boot loop. Once it managed to get through after around 15mins.
I can get into both download and recovery mode. main problem is that the phone doesnt ever turn off (charging screen comes on), and that booting up is difficult and is hit or miss.
I have looked for other threads on this but havent found anything, so any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Felleese
Try a factory reset...
Thanks for the tip but it hasn't helped.
Anything else I should try?

[Q] Optimus Black not turning on without the usb cable

Hello everyone, so today when i woke up i had a problem with my Optimus Black. Yesterday after visiting some pages i connected my phone to the charger and then i went to sleep, but today when i woke up and went to my phone, i noticed that it's was hot as hell, i dind't understand what happened. It was only giving me the start screen with the LG Logo and then turning off. So i disconnected the cel from the power charge and let it cool some time, several minutes later when i tried to turn on my phone my phone but it did not turned on. So i connected the usb cable to the power charge and the phone turned on normally, even i send some messages to some friend, i noticed that the battery was recognized and charging when the phone was connected, so i proceed to disconnect my phone and trying to turned on, but then again no even the screen showed the Lg Logo, i don't know what happening, now i'm using my phone connected and i don't know what's happening, because the battery is recognized and charged, even the software recognized the battery and the power button is working well, it's only that i can use my phone disconnected. I would apreciate some help from you guys, thanks.
Software: Lg Optimus Black CM10.1
You could try reflashing the ROM. If it doesn't work, reflash with all wipes. And undo the last modification(any mod/tweak, etc) you made to system files.
If yoủr phone working fine and you didnt install/ tweak anything before you go to bed, lets check your cel or adaper.
If I were you, I'll try another battery first. I think if it was the ROM, the problem also shows up when you're connected to the power source.

[Q] My O2X turns BSOD when charging

Hi I have problem with my O2X (P990). When I plug phone to charger with screen off, phone gets black screen and I cant do nothing, till I remove the battery and put it back and start it again. I use latest CM10.1 and its known issue i think. Is there any solution for this? I turned on option "Stay awake" but its not practical - when im plugging phone to charger screen must be on - then there is no issue, but i cant think all the time about turning phone on when im putting it to charger. Thanks for any advice.

Do the leds light up when you click the power button?
If so, try to click the power button a few times with 1 or 2 seconds in between, the sceen might turn on again. I got the same problem with my P990.

No its absolutely dead, but thanks for trying.
Change rom or kernel. BSoD mostly caused by kernels.

Hey! Sorry to barge in but i have a similar problem thou i'm on stock ics with touch recovery and root. Weird thing is that this was not happening before. What gives? :-?
If i plug in the charger with screen on then it works but if the phone is in standby and i plug it it stays "dead" and only option is obviously to remove battery.
Had this problem on the old bootloader. Use one of the new bootloader ROMs (tonyp's CM10.1 or pengus77's CM10).
thing is i'm using the new boot loader (stock ics is on new boot loader) but it didn't happen before so i'm suspecting either the battery or the phone.
i will try to eliminate one of the "suspects"(replace the battery) and i hope it does the trick....
I suffered from the same problem, and so the only solution that I was easily able to implement was enabling "keep screen on while charging" in development options. When the phone is charging, the screen will dim, but not turn off. It can be turned off using the power button, and the screen will turn off but device will stay awake, which will prevent the BSOD. I wasn't able to test if it was a battery problem and I didn't want to change the kernel or rom. I am using Temasek's CM 7.2 with Stefan's latest Symbi0sis Kernel. Hope I helped.

i think i'm misunderstood :-? the phone charges just fine, it's just that i have to plug in the charger while the screen is on (if i don't do this the phone remains shut and becomes unresponsive hence the "pull out battery" solution).
Oh, my apologies. I thought you meant that the phone BSOD whenever you plug in the charger and leave it for a short period of time, whether the screen was on or off when the charger was plugged it in. In that case, I'm not sure I can provide a solution. Sorry, and good luck.

ok now it works :| wtf? .... will further test but i did install greenify and auto memory and tweaked here and there some apps... could it be software problem? anyway thanks for reply, sorry for highjacking the OP and will come back with feedback.

I have exactly the same problem since i updated the software,
I am on New bootloader,kernel KK124, and temasek latest CM 10.1 based ROM(v 75).
I always connect the charger with screen on and when it starts charging i put the screen off then no issues.
Another issue i am having is keyboard related .
When I type 2nd alphabet the keyboard goes off. Tried all latest ROMS ,and all gapps its the same.
The only gapps which works is the one provided in PAC man thread ,but it seems to work only with PAC MAN ROM.
But it has other issues( Any contact storage gives an FC,and a bit slow compare to avatar and temasek ROMS)

[q] help! Nook hd+ cm 10.1 suddenly no power on!?

So... I had my Nook HD+ plugged in to my laptop for adding new video files. I went to unplug it, and it said something about "Powering Off" on the screen. I waited until it was off for about 2 minutes, then tried turning it back on. First by a quick press of the power, because I didn't realize it had completely turned off, as it had never done that before when I unplug it. Then I have been trying full 10-second press of power, and several tries, NO POWER! I have no idea what the heck happened, I have been using this tablet with the new CM10 version mod, and have not had any issues. I usually have it in sleep mode and on the charger cord. I was getting ready for a day trip in the morning, and now it's like a paperweight.
PLEASE HELP!
When you plug in the charging cable, does the LED light register anything at all?
Rather obvious but you have tried plugging it in to the mains for at least 10 minutes?

I assume you mean the charger? I had it charged to 75%-80% before I'd put the new videos on it, so I didn't think that had anything to do with it, it shouldn't have been dead already, but I did plug it in to the charger so it went to full power, and for a long time it just showed a battery with a bolt on the black screen, but now it appears to be working. Thanks
Try removing your SDCard and turn it back on, welcome to the weird world of Nook. Put the card back in once it has booted up. Can you let me know if this at least lets you boot.

Did you get this to work?
Based on your post count, this is probably a stupid question but:
You tried charging in an outlet (not through computer), right? Any under-the-hood work makes my Bionic run hot and burn through the battery.
More technical: I read somewhere that someone upgraded to windows 8 and fastboot stopped working. Windows 7 fixed the problem (if you're saying that fastboot is the problem, not Vol - & power button recovery mode).
Were you in the process of rooting?

I am kind of having the same problem. I recenty got a droid bionic where I had to replace the LCD screen and battery since when I got it it did not have a battery with it. I got an NON-OEM extended battery and every thing was working fine for three days. In that time I was able to upgrade everyting to the latest software, fireware, and Android version (4.1.2 JB) but after those three days the phoe woould not power on. When I plugged it into my computer and tried, the white power light would just blink at me. when I unplugged it from the computer and tried it would not even come on. I thought it was the battery so I sent it back and got an OEM extended batter and a OEM dock/charger. When I got everything I plugged it all in and the screen came on with the Motorola M logo and then showed me a picture of the battery at 5%, so I let it charger over night. In the morning I pressed the power button while still plugged into the charger, the phone light up saying the battery was at 100%. So I took it off the charger and tried to power up. Nothing happened. I plugged it into my computer and the white power light came on and stayed solid but still no power-up. I just tries the Volume Up/Down power while plugged into the wall charger and I can get to the recovery screen and try the normal boot up, I get the Motorola M Logo screen, I just now tried recovery and the little Droid just showed up with its stomach with a red triangle and an ! in it and is just sittin there. and now it when back to the Motorola M Logo screen then the battery screen. Does this mean mine is bricked as well? Please some one help.
Bumping because of no help yet. I can access the recovery screen but does not seem to help any, it also has to be plugged into the wall charger for this to happen but I can not power it up whether it is plugged in or not. Please Help someone so I can get this figures out.
Alright strange thing to try, plug it into your computer, while plugged in take it the battery, give it a minute and put it back in while still plugged in.

Did as you suggest but when I took out the battery. the white light stayed on. Still could do nothing. Waited 2 minutes, put the battery back in and still nothing. All I get is the white light staying on. I unplug from the computer, the light turns off and still nothing, not even the recovery screen will boot up.
Can you get to the fast boot option by holding both volume buttons and power

As long as I keep it plugged into the wall charger I can. When I go there it says "Battery Low Cannot Program Connect USB Data Cable. But as soon as I unplug the wall charger it shuts off and I can not get back to fast boot. When I plug it into the USB cable and plug into the computer, I can not get to fast boot. I just check and it says my battery is at 100%. but when I first plug it in it says 5%.
Your gonna need to charge your battery with either an external charger or the usb charging hack before you can perform an fxz on it
