[Q] answering the phone without having to press 1 - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my problem is this, i am running cm7.3, and it is awesome by the way, but i am always flashing the latest and greatest rom. well i always do a backup and wipe everything. i have aways had good luck with whatever i flash. i recently flashed over to the evervolv rom. i liked it ok but i always go back to cm. well after returning from evervolv and having wiped and wiped and reflashed and wiping and restoring to my nandroid, i have a persistant problem. when the phone rings i swipe to answer it and i get a message tht says to answer press 1. i wind up hanging up on most calls. this sucks. i have looked over the forum and can't find anything about it. i have gone through settings over and over, nothing. i have even flashed the latest radio and nothing. what am i missing here? any help greatly appreciated. thanks, hp

You can try clearing the data in the dialer & dialer storage and see if that helps. Also if you do, export your contacts to your sd as it will erase them all. If that dosent work then I'd suggest redownloading the rom do a full wipe again and see if that will help. Hope it does.

How do you wipe? Like what partitions? And what recovery do you use? After a full wipe there should be nothing weird leftover.

hi thanks for the quick replies. laie1472 not sure how to get to a place to clear data in the dialer. i will try doing another wipe and restore. duce i wipe data reset, dalvic, in advance i wipe cache and batt stats. then restore my saved nandroid. still does same thing. once again thanks, hp also i am using clock work mod

In settings go to applications then go to manage applications then click on all. Then scroll down until you see dialer. Then click on dialer and force stop then hit clear data. Then press back and then scroll down to dialer storage then click on it then force stop and clear data. Then reboot. Remember to export your contacts to your sd before trying the above steps. Hope it helps.

sounds like you are using google voice for voice mail.. how long ago did you set it up?? when you first sign up for google voice it defaults to have to press 1 to answer the phone calls, its call screening or some crap like that.. just sign into your google voice from a computer and edit the options for call screening its pretty self explanatory once you get into it.. but thats what it sounds like your problem is..

Sounds like google voice thing... are you using google voice? If so, pull up google voice on your computer go to Voice settings -> Calls -> Disable call screening. That should do it...

hey thanks guys, it was google voice settings. its just odd that it started doing that after i flashed that rom. oncew again thank you all for the help. hp

Noitification Ringtone issue (Solved)

I am pulling my frickin hair out trying to figure this, so I am asking for help.
I am running xRom, everything up-to-date, and the only 3rd party messaging app I have is SMS Popup, which has been disbaled throughout my entire problem.
The issue is that whenever I get a text it is playing a full song out off my sdcard, despite my ringtone being set to "Don't Panic" in the settings. I erased the song w/ Linda File Manager, and after that it chose a random tone to play, not the one I had set. This is more acceptable to me since it is an actual messaging tone (1 or 2 notes) but I am just worried it is going to choose another song at some point, which is way too long when you are texting back and forth with someone.
Any ideas?
Edit: Ok I opened SMS Popup (disabled already) to double check it was turned off, and now it vibrates, which really sucks, I am rarely close enough to hear or feel the vibrations...
Try doing a wipe and then flash. That might fix it. If you have a partitioned sd card, try repartioning it...

That sounds like an extreme but it will work
You know that there are 2 places you can set your notifications from right? Once is menu/settings/sounds and display and the other one is when you open up messaging app hit menu/settings/notification settings,
See if that has anything to do with your problem before you start nuking your partitions
Good luck

This led me to the answer, thanks. What had happened was in the messaging application at some point I had selected the music, not realizing the two weren't tied together, which would make too much sense. Anyhow, I erased the song, so now nothing was selected, so for some reason it was cycling thru the different ringtones, which makes no sense, but whatever. So I set it back to the "Default Ringtone" option, and now it works fine. Thank God I didn't have to wipe, I probably would have just dealt with it for another few days, cause wiping stresses me worse than this **** did.

Google maps(navigation)

Anytime I run my navigation on my nexus the voice will work for one or two directions. And it will go to this demonic like voice ( I call him Carl), which just repeats some web address and that on the female voice will not come back after that. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Google many times. I've had this problem since stock 2.2.1 and I've flashed many roms since then. Nothing seems to change it better/worst, sorry if this is a repost.
Have you tried deleting the voice cache? It's located at:
/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps/cache
yeah I had done that before in the past, and It would work for like a trip or too and just go back to the voice. I'm thinking about just formatting my sd card and see what happens?
I can confirm this as well. It happens with the Espeak TTS. It's a shame because I like Espeak so much more than Pico.

Have you tried changing to "Pico TTS" under "Text-to-speech settings"? (I'm assuming you have eSpeak TTS on currently, based on what rickytenzer said)
sounds like you got a demon inside your nexus one....since you already named him Carl, he will love you till death.

Actually since I formated my SD, it just go worst. I get Force Close every time it goes to tell me the second direction. The other voice is gone however, it's just back the normal lady. But I've seem to have created a whole new problem in the process. I've wipe in the cache in clockwork, but still no changes.

Now I have this whole force close problem????? You know where I could get a Copy of gmaps files that should be on my sd? I've done a sys app removal and reinstalled but it would changed anything.

notification sound not working others are

like that title states notification for text wont sound tried changing the sound nothing all others work tho ringtone for voicemail everything. just cant figure it out.
Just to cover the basics,
Did you do the following:
1) Go to Settings, Sound, Volume and make sure everything is up?
2) Under Settings, Sound and in the Feedback area, make sure that all the appropriate options are selected?
3) Reboot the phone?
4) Use the volume switch on the side to go to completely silent and then push it back up?
Are your mp3 files playing?
Sent from my captivate running firefly!
yep ive done all that stuff mp3 files will play even when im selecting a new tone on the msgs it plays there just wont play when i get a msg. i am using zedge if that helps
the email ringtone that i set for my msg ringtone worked ugh this is pissing me off.
Are you on a custom ROM? I guess it is possible this is a side effect of a bad flash. Might want to try reflashing whatever ROM you are on. Make sure you backup first, but when you restore don't restore system data. Part of that system data could be your problem and you would just be restoring it, thus putting you in an endless loop.
i am on a custom rom continuum v4 but ive been using this one for almost 2 months
If you have root explorer or another file system app, check in your system\media\audio folder. Under the notifications folder, see if you have anything in there. I have had a bad flash wipe my ringtones before and had to download some I wanted. Just a thought
Try this : go to Messaging/menu/settings. The VERY last option will set your sms tone.
well it started working when i did that i noticed it was really low so when it played i turned the volume up and it started working

[Q] Missing SMS and Notifications.

Hello guys
Friend of mine running stock Galaxy Note. GB without OS upgrades or custom roms. Just as it came out the box.
Today, when we were having breakfast, he couldn't access his SMS. The message would come, but when he open the SMS app, there was nothing showing up.
In the same time, all missed calls notifications stopped working. He has barely any apps, an older guy, who use everything stock, and the Note is just for him to read news.
I have been using S2 for a year and S3 for few weeks. Not once I came across such thing, nor do I remember seeing any post regarding such issue on Android forums.
Any light on the topic would be much appreciated.
regards
Seba

Just tried to remove the SIM and insert it back again. Still no message in the SMS list. Same issue, no message yet.
Well... if that's the case, I would recommend you try doing a factory reset on that phone (it's running in GB right), before you do the factory reset, do try to backup whatever datas you can back it up.
After the wipe, check if those issues are stil there (or not anymore).

Would like to avoid Full Wipe in this case. I'm using ICS now. Are there any other solution? Will consider Full Wipe if nothing can be done.

well if your using ICS now, and if your using also an unsafe kernel.... flash a safe one (e.g. SpeedMod, NotecCore/HydraCore) and your gonna be safe with the Wipe after. Those kernels have the eMMC bug disabled.

Anyone still facing missing SMS issued, any solution?? b'cos I still facing particular SMS missing, the one most SMSs compare others number. my note is stock and not root.
I saw some post saying have to root the phone delete the "sms" system files then will recover back the disappear sms. It was due to existing system file corrupt and recreate it, if not the issue still there.
is it a bug on ICS?

How to check if my settings are all back up to Google?

I'm about unlock the bootloader and root, but I just want to be certain that my settings are all backed up. I don't mind losing pictures (dont have that many), but I would rather not have to go and set my whole phone back up the way I like it if I can help it. I have it checked under Backup and Restore, but does that just happen automatically?
only way to check would be to wipe data(factory reset), then restore your account. you will see if it did or not. but yea, that setting works for me.

What exactly does google back up? Do they also back up your texts and call log? App Data?

it backs up your main settings, homescreen layout(and app), and your wallpaper. that other setting with apps just backs up your apps, not app settings(very very few).
