[Q] Cannot use camera - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have not been able to use 3rd party camera apps like Camera360, QR Code Reader, Vignette, Magic Hour etc. It installs fine, but when I open it, the screen is just dark and blank. Using a rooted phone (DDKB1) I've experienced no problems while using the stock camera app. Can anyone help?

dude i am using vignette and 3d panorama like applications but i did not faced any problems like this

Sounds like u have removed the stock email app.
For some strange reason the stock email app is linked to all other camera related apps, try reinstalling it.

Even i hav removed email ap but camera works perfectly

wow! thanks guys...i had used startup manager to remove some of the apps that i thought were unnecessary. here are the apps that i added back to the start-up:
skype, yahoo mail, market, google maps
and now camera360 is working again but QR Code Scanner is still not working.
EDIT: QR Droid Private (code scanner) is working! Thanks a lot guys!

Are you using free or paid? Any good free apps to enhance pic quality key or add functions to camera

Sorry question was wrongly phrased. Don't need pic editing but need more functions to camera if available (if that improves picture quality). Don't need special effects like frames and things but any way the picture can be better. Any good free apps for this.

Glad it helps
Lemme clarify it a bit for those who may come across it in the future.
- Removing the stock email app with screw up other apps which have camera related feature. (my experience was Qr code, cam scanner)
- After removing the email app, your stock camera should still function well. However, 3rd party camera program will not (my experience was Pudding Camera). So, basically it is not 'cannot use camera', it is 'cannot use most camera related apps'
- My version to fix it is to reinstall the stock email app.

Great thanks man! I've reflashed my phone 2 times because of this and got the same errors with barcode reader and all other applications, I can't imagine that disabling starting email application can cause that type of problems! )

No Photos in Facebook

I am seeing a weird thing with the Facebook android app on my S7. Everything is working except for photos. Basically I see an exclamation triangle on top of every friend's photo and the same goes for all the pics in my albums. Has anyone of you seen this bug? Appreciate any response. Thanks.
PS: On my EVO 4G photos show up properly, so I know it's not related to a temporary glitch in Facebook servers.
Have you tryied to update the facebook application?

Yes, I have downloaded the latest FB app from the market, v1.5.2, and it has the "no photos" issue. The mobile web version of FB works fine and so I made a bookmark to it and use Facebook that way.
Still very puzzled why the app doesn't work. Do you have the S7? Does FB work on yours properly?
Yes I have an S7 and fb work great no problem with photos. Did you removed applications from system? ...because FB use the native android photo viewers.

I have it working now. All I had to do is uninstall the latest update(1.5.2) and go back to the factory installed version. The photos all show up.
Something is wrong with S7 and some app updates. The latest market FCs whereas the factory installed version works without any issues.

[Q] The problem(s) with the facebook app running all the time

Why does the Facebook app always seem to be running in the backgound?
Even after a reboot, the app is running - usually 2 diferent services - media upload and notification checker or something.
With an X8, there's not much spare RAM, so to have facebook take up anywhere from 8mb to 16mb of ram is a problem for me.
Is there a way to stop this background activity without having to go to Applications>Running Services>STOP all the time, or, is there an alternative to the facebook app that behaves itself better?
Thanks

Yes it's old bug I try to log off from facebook but it's always back to running services. I fix that with unistall, if I need fb I install it direct from SD:cyclops:
I just uninstalled both facebook and twitter, and will try seesmic for a while.

Ohh yes, I forgot. I use SEESMIC on gcr and after log off there are not backgreound apps from seesmic :good::laugh:
What I do is I "freeze" the app.
That means the app is installed , but it can not run in the memory.
When I need the app again , I simply "defrost" it.
That way I am able to use the app whenever I want and I can simply and quickly switch between Freezing and Defrosting.
I use this application free on Google Play called "Chef's Freezer"

[Q] My Gallery and Camera fails after JB update. How to fix?

After the Verizon OTA JB update (4.1.2), My Gallery will not open. It just says "Error while launching application." The default camera app does the same thing.
Third party apps (LittlePhoto and Camera ZOOM FX) seem to be working fine, and I am looking for a good Gallery app in case I cannot get this fixed.
I tried clearing data/cash for Gallery app. I found somewhere that this was supposed to fix this problem. It didn't.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
--Glenn.
i would just wipe data in recovery
you will need to backup, texts, call logs, contacts… if you want to save
how to.. in my list

Really hoping there is an easier way to fix this. Looks like several people have the problem (judging by a google search), but no solutions yet.
Motorola's "My Gallery" was removed by the update and replaced with Google "Gallery" app.
If My Gallery is still listed (and tied to the camera) it sounds like your install didn't install completely or you restored things after the update.
You may want to flash the JB fastboot files, factory reset and reconfigure.
That was it! Looks like the camera app was also replaced. I was using App Manager. It kept the "links" to the old apps in the icon folders. After removing the old camera and gallery icons, and then adding the new ones, everything works fine.
Thanks tcrews!

[Q] Picasa not syncing in Gallery app.

Hi, my mom just got an HTC first, which is running stock android 4.1.2. Everything is working great, except that instant upload is not syncing back to her stock photo gallery. She has Google+ installed and instant upload turned on, and that is all working perfectly. She has a nexus 7 running Android 4.2.2 and the photos she takes on her phone are syncing to her tablet perfectly, but they are not syncing back to her phone. Everything in her Google account is set to sync. I have Force stopped/Cleared Data and cache in the gallery app, but nothing I do gets is to work. I even had her add my dads google account to her phone (set only to sync Google photos), hoping that would force something to work, but his photos are not syncing to her phone either. Please help. I just finally got her to get an android phone because of all the awesome features it has, (Instant upload/Gallery sync being one of them), and it stinks that one of the best features is not working.I know she can access the photos through Google+, but its so much more convenient to have them in your gallery. Thank you for your help...
Does anyone else have this issue? Got my wife the same phone, and the issue is the same. Even if you don't have a solution, please reply with a, "yes I have the issue", or "no, it works for me.” I'd appreciate it.

Same thing here. I just bought the HTC First primarily for the stock android, and now the gallery app doesn't work with Google Photos...
It's weird that it is definitely connected to Picasa, as it can upload pictures to albums.
New stock app fixes this issue
The updated 4.3 Gallery/Camera stock app which was just leaked fixes this issue. It will now properly sync with Google Photos and display all your albums. The camera app is also spiffier as a nice bonus! :good:

Lollipop Gallery app

Hi Nexus 6 users. Can any of you tell me which gallery app you guys have on your nexus. Also, do you guys have "My files" app as shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8TXgCzxEnw
I use the stock Gallery app for most of the things I need, I rarely use Google+ Photos because it always shows the most recent upon opening rather than having individual folders set up for Camera, Screenshots, downloads, cloud backups, etc which I prefer using.
Hearing that the Nexus 6 is going to use G+ Photos by default as the Gallery I have been eyeing "Quickpic" since it emulates the stock Gallery plus a few more features. Plus they have a beta version out now that they are implementing Material Design which is a plus since I was originally going to just consider backing up and restoring the stock Gallery apk from my Nexus 4 over to my Nexus 6.
Keep an eye on QuickPic I say, wait for their stable Material Design update which will be soon and install it, otherwise just backup your Gallery APK and install it over onto the Nexus 6.

Gallery app
The Gallery app can make an easy to moderate using Files set up. Gallery app function can add and install in limited time period for desktop or mobile applications.
Mod edit: Added direct link
Google Play-link

+1 for QuickPic :good:
Great app, looks and feels almost identical to the stock Kit Kat gallery app.
Gallery KK is better in my opinion

On stock, is anyone else finding that the "Settings" menu item doesn't work on either this gallery app or the stock "Photos" app:
- On the gallery app I just get a black screen
- On the Photos app it just closes the menu
Weird

Old and dead thread, but since this guy above brought it back to life, I might as well add a bit;
https://android.googlesource.com/pl...droid/gallery3d/settings/GallerySettings.java
Probably the reason the settings activity is blank, is because it is actually an empty file.
*** https://android.googlesource.com/pl...y2/+/deb5910808d7363ca73b44804d89e5b430c03fcb
The code for the settings menu was removed during transition from gallery3d to gallery2 back in 2011.
If you look at the settings.xml file, you can see that the only options you were actually provided with were bogus anyway.

Not knowing where that came from, I certainly wouldn't install it on my phone.
So I forked the source myself, fixed it to build as a standalone with NDK, and posted the source to my github:
https://github.com/lbdroid/android_packages_apps_Gallery2
I did add a binary to the build/ directory of the project, but I still recommend compiling it yourself.
Edit: I just pushed a patch and new build that have the Settings activity stripped out of it. No more annoying people with empty activities.
So far I have found QuickPic is the best!
