[Q] Wirless N Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I do not know if someone already ask this question but I am going to ask again. My SGS i9000 supposed to support wirless b/g/n but it can only pick up wifif B/G. Another setup was created for wifi N but I cannot see the wifi N. I thought it should pick it up at least. Anybody here with wifi knowledge that can enlighten me up a little? Please help!!!

you sure it's not an issue with the channel?
Where are you from / Which channels are allowed in your region?
I just set my AP to N-only and channel 11 and it worked perfectly for me (running Tweaky vanilla - JVH-based).
What ROM are you running?

I am currently connected to a Sky router with a link speed of 72Mb/s so I gues this is running 802.11n

Thanks for the reply. I am in Canada and my company has external port for N. Just can't see the N network. Laptops can be connected with no issues.

Are you referring to 5GHz N because I don't think it can use it. Only 2,4GHz wireless N is supported.

WiFi N/802.11n

Has the wifi n feature been implemented in any of the roms (such as r19/20/21 or cyanogen) since Google released the source code for 2.2? Some are saying that it is already active for them. Anyone have info on this?
Well just check the transfer rate from your PC
as soon as i get a router that supports n. Is there a way to tell from the handset itself if n is enabled?
I'm not sure how to check from the handset directly, however you could always select only the N band of wireless from the router instead of broadcasting them all. If the Nexus picks it up, then its N.
i too would like to know if N is available in any of CM roms. I have a Dual-Band N+G linksys router but for some reason i'm not able to connect to my N band.
mine has been working since CM5.0.7 since ive noticed

It only does 2.4Ghz 802.11n not 5Ghz 802.11n which is were the real advantage of 802.11n comes from. I actually tested it pretty throughly with my WRT350N router with DD-WRT firmware and I was able to achieve better speeds with 802.11g than I was with 802.11n with very little other wireless traffic in the area.

No wonder i couldn't get it to work! Thanks.
N has been working for me since the first leaked froyo update. I only set my router to broadcast N only
Like stated before, the wifi chip in the N1 is 2.4 GHz only. It is not a dual band receiver. So if have a dual band router that is transmitting a 5Ghz signal your N1 will not see it. This is actually kind of common with N devices (DVD players, TVs, Adapter Dongles) in the past year or so, most of them are 2.4 GHz only which really defeats the whole purpose of having N in the first place.
Doesn't n supposedly have wider range?
i answered my own question. did *#*#4636#*#* and under "wifi status" it says "Link Speed: 72Mbps" so it is enabled

[Q] Connecting to a "N" router on SGT?

Hello, I have the SGT and I see that I can connect through b/g/n/. My issue is that I do not see my 5ghz N frequency SSID on the tablets wireless networks setting.
Is there anything special I need to do to utilize my N frequency on my home network?
Thanks in advance!
Router D-Link DIR-825
Your router have settings for for mixed (b/g/n) n only and sometimes (b/g) so any settings u have it on the tab should connect to it. Now if you have mix settings (b/g/n) the tab will connect at whatever optimal setting the wireless modem is written to connect at. I would guess N but again its a guess. But if you set your your network to N only, the tab can only connect at that frequency. Likewise if you have a wireless modem running g it will see the SSID but would have problems connecting to it. I havent been able to tell my tab which type of network to connect to, unless I'm missing something.
Almost 90% android devices doesn't support N standart, if it's supported, so only N on 2.4ghz frequency, not 5Ghz.
You have to manually select the channel. And use lower numbers.

[Q] SGT + 802.11n: Not enabled?

I just junked a netgear router with misbehaving wireless and nabbed a new one (Linksys WRT120N if you're curious) with N capability last night. I was hoping to get my SGT to connect at N speeds but unfortunately it keeps wanting to connect at G speed (54mbps). I've tried setting the router to N-only mode and the tablet still sees the AP, but it attempts to connect for a moment then goes back to scanning for APs. Yes, I've got great signal strength since I am sitting ~5 feet from the AP (the SGT icon shows full blue icon, my dbm is -34 for those of you that understand what it means).
Is the tablet's N capability disabled? I double checked the specs of my SCH-I800 on Verizon and Samsung's site and both say that the tablet has b/g/n wifi capability.
If you're nosy and want to know why in the world I'd even need N speeds, I have half a dozen computers in my house and some of them (thank you Microsoft) can't see the others for file transfers, so I copy the files over to my tablet from the source, then to the target. Not the best solution but I'd rather not toss up applications on all the computers and I haven't bothered buying equipment for a NAS device yet.
So... any revelations?

Dunno, I've got mine running on N just fine... Some of the lower end linksys routers have issues with N. You might look into dd-wrt and see if your router is compatible..
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
I've got a Linksys E3000 running Tomato, and my Tab connects. Notably, however, the Tab only supports some of the 5GHz channels and not others.

Pretty sure it only supports the 2.4ghz range of N. I could be wrong, but I doubt they would have included the 5ghz range of N wireless capabilities..

No, it supports 5Ghz range as well, just not all channels as I stated. My router is dual radio, and I have one SSID running at 2.4 and one SSID running at 5, and the Tab is connected to the 5 one.
It noticeably scans the 2.4 range before the 5 range, so first the 2.4 access points appear, and then the 5.
My personal experience was that I was able to achieve much much better download speeds by setting my router (WRT310N) to G mode only.
Before hand, when it was set to mixed I was getting speeds of like 1mbps download tops. Now I get 15+.

Would you mind mentioning 'some' of these channels so I don't have to manually go through all of them one by one to see if it'll work with my SGT?

[Q] Help with Connecting Touchpad to Wifi Channel 13

Can someone please help me with this? I find that all the devices in my house work best when I switch my wireless router to channel 13, but I cannot seem to connect my Android Touchpad to the network when I switch it to that setting.
Right now I am on CyanogenMod Version 9-20120916-NIGHTLY-tenderloin, which has worked great for me otherwise.
Is it possible to update this ROM to connect to channel 13? Does another ROM allow for it?
Thanks in advance.
The driver/wifi adapter might not support that channel. Try rebooting into WebOS and see if it works there. If it does, there might be a bug on the driver and/or android preventing you from using channel 13.
Question, are you on North America ?
Yes, I am in North America, where I know Channel 13 isn't supposed to be used but my laptops and desktop connect to it without issue and the throughput is fantastic.
Maybe android is limiting your usage of the given channel.
Have you googled this issue?

M5C5 N-mode Wifi Speed

Hi
I have a M5C5 with debloated GoogleNow rom. I have problems with my N-mode router. If i switch to G-mode i get perfect 54Mbps , but get 5.5Mbps on N-mode.
Before i change my router:
Can somebody with the same model (M5C5) provide me with some Wifi speed stats ? What kind of a router do you use?
Can it be that the network chip (rtl8723bs) supports only G-mode ?
Thanks in advance!
I use the same rom on M5C5. I've set my router to 2.4 gHz N-only mode. I can get up to 150mbps when the device is really near the router.

Thanks for the info. I could not find any specification for the wireless network adapter.
I am using dd-wrt on my N router , this can be a reason for the drop in speed.
But at least now i know that the M5C5 supports N mode, will have to buy new router.
