[Q] power issues - Dell Streak 7

ok im new to the android family and a total noob lol. but i need some help, ive been surfing to find answers my streak 7 wont take a charge unless i pull the piece partially out of the tablet, not sure to what caused this im thinking a pwer surge came through when i had it plugged into a wall socket connected to a light switch that got turned off then back on. also how do i get honeycomb 3.1 on it and will that void the warranty. is there a voice app that will allow the tablet behave like the xbox kenect?

You've probably smashed the power cable. I did it to mine and I've been having that problem. There is a thread for the honeycomb install. There is no app that will allow the streak to work like a kinect.

Is he serious about that last question?

I think he's talking about the voice control on the kinect. As of yet there is nothing like Dragon Naturally Speaking for android, but it is possible since they do have voice recognition. After all, just press the microphone button on the google search widget and you can start just about any activity and even have it dictate emails for you.

Google car dock no longer charging my Nexus

Sound/music goes through it fine, the bluetooth is good but its not charging even though the indicator says it is.
I thought this could have been because I had Pandora steaming but even with it off (No GPS) it would still not charge.
I tried the cable by directly connecting it to my N1 and its charging perfectly ( I even enabled Navigation and it was still charging it).
What do you guys think could be the problem? It was working fine before. I am not sure if this started happening after I installed Froyo.
are you putting it in the dock after you start your car? i have had issues with the order in which i do things...

Yeah I am. What issues did you have and how'd you fix it?
if i had the phone in before i started the car it didnt sync up right...
check the pins and make sure they are all working right, and by that i mean none of them are stuck since they are like springy

Do you have a skin/case or anyhting on your phone?
I had an issue with the desktop dock (and have seen other people confirm very similar) where I dropped my phone a very short distance to the floor then it wouldn't charge in the dock (but it knew it was in the dock as the dock app would launch).
Couple hours later, just by chance, I felt the tiniest "edge" on the back of my phone. Just below the battery cover and below the off colored "band" (where they engrave the phone if you choose to have that done) on the dark colored part that says "htc" on it. Tho it was not even really noticable, this piece (with the htc on it) had snapped out just a hair. I put the smallest amount of pressure on it and it literally clicked back into place. Couldn't see it move, only feel and hear it. After doing that my phone immediately charged again when putting it in dock and every time since.
I've also seen people say they put a sticker on the back of their phone on that same area and had exact same issue until they took it back off. Doesn't seem like it would be enough, but, at least the desktop dock, appears to be touchy enough where this tiny bit made all the difference.
I've come with similar issue after froyo update. in my case, whenever I synced the bluetooth to stream audio and then proceeded to dock it into the desktop dock it will not charge at "ac adapter"speed, I will only charge at"usb speed". So, depending on my usage while docked, it might or might not charge at all. The only solution I found afte much tinkering was to disconnect any bluetooth connection, dock the phone, then reconnect the bluetooth with whatever device. I hope this helps. And hope this issue doesn't get into the final froyo release.

Unlock with front Buttons

Hi there,
I'm planing to integrate a Dell Streak 7 as HeadUni into my car.
The Streak has just arrived but there one or two issues I can't handle.
First at all: If I build the Streak into my car, I can't reach the on/off Button anymore. I don't wont to seperate the button from the Tablet so I want to use the front Buttons for unlocking. Is there a simple workaround for this? I think there should be a software-solution for this problem.
Next problem is my connection to the steering-wheel-audio-control-buttons. I realy want to have vol-up and vol-down woking on this thing. My plan is tu modificate a simple blue-tooth Keyboard for this. Is there a possebility to create some Keyboard shortcuts for vol-up, vol-down and so on? (for example with he + and - keys?)
There some still some other issues, but this two are very important for my project, so it would be great if anybody could help me.
Thanks alot, and sorry for my poor English!
Greetings,
Sören
edit:
okay, seems that I have found a solution for the first problem...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683902
But, when it's totaly shut down, a still can't boot it... Can't see a solution for this quite now...
Nor will you find one. If you want full functionality you need to take the Streak part and extend all buttons by hardwire extensions.. And don't forget the occasional hang up for which you will need the reset button. Or mount in in a way where you have access to everything

That doesn't sound good...
I'm thinking about a solution with a docking station. So that I can remove the tablet an use it outside of the car...
But in that case I have to make bigger modifications to the car itself... and thats not the way I want to go with this project...

You really don't wanna for that route either unless you can truly secure the Streak to the dock and ELIMINATE vibration.... Mess up the pins and your Streak becomes worthless if you lose access to it for charging or file transfer

Is your device still alive?

Hi all,
recently one of my Kaisers died, still got one left though. It made me wonder:
- Is your device still alive?
- Who is using it as their daily device?
Use the poll and post your story :victory:
(And tell us what rom you are running)
My SIM slot doesn't work. I actually, don't have any working device working right now... I was using Android but it just got too much corruption and I was too lazy to do the partitions again, so I just installed some WinMo ROM.
Yep mines still going strong... Love it.... is my Work phone... Have 4 spare batteries so when away for long periods it is a god send... Not the fastest phone around but damn reliable!!!! Tried Android on it but never managed to get a decent FULL hardware working version on it... so went back to just winmo...
even have a spare waiting in the wings when current one died. LOL
battery replacement needed
Amazingly, even though my touchscreen died, the rest of the phone is working. I am using keyboard-kung-fu to navigate.
My battery is about to die/explode, it has expanded so much that the rear cover literally can not be closed properly.
I ordered a replacement from a local shop, and when it arrived, it was DOA because the stock was TOO OLD!! CRAZY!
I currently use my phone as a 3G modem (connected to my LAN router via USB)
Does anyone have any suggestions on home-making a replacement battery?
I have tried:
1) wiring up the + and - lines from a 3.7v LiIon notebook cell (device won't power on, but the green LED flashes if i hold down the power button). (Size does not matter - the phone sits on a windowsill)
2) wiring up a battery from an HTC Touch HD (only 3 connectors, not 4) -- same situation as #1
3) bought a replacement battery - new old stock from HTC - and it was DOA
4) bought a replacement battery - from some other manufacturer but I don't remember the name -- same deal, DOA
Is there any way to wire up any other battery? Size doesn't matter-- anything with compatible wiring will be OK with me.
Any suggestions?
of course!
it was last time i looked about 2 months ago
now ive seen this thread i will have to check again once i get home.
it was dropped several times. had the case replaced twice - the whole phone casing i mean.
first time was just because it looked a bit tatty
second time was after i dropped it while reading the gps on my mountain bike (yeah i know, not the cleverest thing ive ever done), i was crashed on the deck and could see my bike sliding one way and the phone another on its front side must have been one of the very few times that i was on my bike without the aluminium case and safety line
it would still look like new if my wife hadnt dropped it on the pavement, only minor scratches that time...
i still remember when i used to show it to people and they were impressed with the bright touch screen,
then i would slide the case open using the mario sound and the keyboard would light up and they were really amazed
happy days eh?
I use mine like an iPod now (kinda). I go to youtube and do web browsing
I use mine almost daily, on my second network on which i have an unlimited data plan. I flashed it with scoot's cyanogenmood 7*, in order to keep it working better than with winmo .
Kaiser
I still use it weekly. Winmo 6.5. I still like the simple ability to click on a phone number in an email and go straight to the dialler without copy and paste.

Android does that.
I pulled mine out of its box in the basement after it had sat there since Aug. 16, 2010 (based upon the last text message date), and not only did it accept a charge, but it booted right up. It's sitting on my desk right now while I cycle the battery a couple of times before deciding exactly what to do with it.
Windows Mobile Rocks!!!!
I still use mine everyday for calling texting and browsing it's not superfast but it is still better than any of them fisher-price apples.
@mfsr98: how do you make an i-pod out of a windows device? Did you blend it? or did you ran over it with your truck?

i just made a post regarding this earlier tonight = / and the car mode is now happening to me now. I called htc support like 5 hours ago and they were absolutely no help at all. "reboot your phone into safe mode" did that "is the problem still occurring?" why yes it is still not charging when on... then they say it must be a hardware problem and to use my warranty and thanked me for my patience and please continue using htc.
I dont know why they have tech support that does not know how to support a recent common occurring problem. I don't even mind the warranty phone as much but i just took a ton of photos and videos the last month and i cant even back them up to my computer now.

Hey after reading through that other thread i did what they said about turning off the developer options and fast boot and it seems to be charging when plugged into the wall but it still will not connect to the computer. Also seems like the car mode is not turning on any more and after resetting it a few times earlier the apps do not open in landscape. So the only issue that remains is the usb connection to the computer although the whole situation is still ridiculous and i do not know how htc wants to pass it off as a hardware issue = / if you find a solution please let me know.

After I restart my phone by pressing volume down key and power key with charger plugged in, it starts to charge and also charge when connected to pc but pc wont detect it. No USB drive no syn manager. (note- I dont not enter bootloader by restarting. just leave power and volume down key immediately after screen is off, else u will get in Bootloader.)
I cant even root.
Any way I think i will sell this phone if no problem occurs.
Regards,
Also if i change any setting regarding USB connection type or developers option or fast boot option and charging stops and i have to again plug in charger and start with power and volume down key.
Other than that some problems keep rising like speaker get on automatically when i take call , dial screen rotates, it keep asking "complete action with day dream or Tunein radio"
Yeah idk now my phone seems to be working fine but yesterday I list sound for like 10 hours so I just called my carrier and they are sending me a new one. Hope you manage to get a decent amount of cash for your phone man

Doesn´t seem to be too unsusual.
My phone (unrooted) began with the not charging problem after about three weeks. There is also a notification telling that I should connect a charger that is supported (shouldn't the original charger from HTC be supported). About at the same time it also decided that all apps should run in landscape mode and it at the same time become a painful thing to answer the phone by routine as it decided to activate the loudspeaker.
The problems are however quite intermittent and disappears and comes back without any known trigger.
I had the device on service when they updated firmware, run what ever tests they run and tried to charge it. All tests passed and I got it back. Everything seemed ok but day two the phone refused to charge again. Back to the store again where they also tried to charge but (luckily enough) got the same result as I.
It seems like if the battery is totally drained, the device starts charging after some while. Before it starts charging as it should, the red light goes on and off for some time.
I have exactly the same symptoms with my HTC One. It does not change until it's fully empty and turned off. Then it does change. The orange LED blinks 5 times and after that it start blinking very slowly.
I sended my phone on repair. True a webportal Im able to see any progression. I noticed they also uploaded a photo, see attachment.
It clearly seems to be missing a small element on the motherboard. (near the arrow). What I find weird thought, is that it seems to be the head of the phone and not the bottom near the USB port.
They also had some trouble opening the device as you can see between the two white stickers on the bottom of the phone. I'll keep you posted on any progression...

It didn`t always start charging. Sometimes I have had to plug the connector in 10 or 20 times before anything happened. Otherwise it did not start charging until the battery was completely drained.
Everytime it does not charge, the little icon in the left corner tells me that I should connect a supported device.
I sent a question to HTC support about the problem and got the recommendation to send it to a repair center (where it already is) and they actually gave an answer on my question if HTC are aware about the problems. The answer was "We know about it and work on a solution".
Interesting if that actually is true and not just a too quick answer from someone that wanted to close the case at the a technical support.
Has anybody else asked the question?
Any one having charging and USB problem with HTC One had ever charged his/her phone by any other charger (not the charger u get in box) even for once ? I did that all the time !!!
Yeah, I always used a Samsung charger with mine and it works a treat, I just sent mine back to my network provider and they sent it off for repair, obviously, they put it down as a hardware issue and replaced the damaged device with a refurbished device which I don't care about because of rather have one that works than not

Ok, so i have a problem. Today i was screwing around with a project of mine (a portable boombox thing) for this project i needed a subwoofer. I hit up the local thrift store and BAM. New subwoofer. I plugged my phone into it just to see if the speaker driver worked. Plug into headphone jack=immediate reboot. Once it booted back up, i tried again to get it to play, but to no avail. It seemed to not recognise that the speaker (or headphones) were plugged in at all and proceded to play through the phone speaker. I unplug and plug the 3.5mm jack back in. And thats where the s**t hit the fan. The display flashed a pure blue screen (no words, just a pure blue screen) for around a second, and then my beloved G2 met its shocking end from an electrified audio jack. So sad,so sad.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
Long story short, i killed my phone with a short in the audio jack (i guess), and im sending it in to verizon for warranty replacement. Normally this wouldnt be a problem and everything would be fixed by big red and everyone lives happily ever after but its never that simple for us tweakers..
/\The device will NOT power on whatsoever
/\Cant access download mode
/\Cant get into recovery
/\Cant get it to do a dang thing, not even vibrate
Tried vol- and power for up to a minute
Tried the three finger salute vol-,vol+,power
Even tried vol+,power but i dont think thats supposed to do anything anyways..
Tried vol+ while plugging in the usb (original cable)
---
---
So is there anything that i am missing?
Obviously i was not able to flash back to stock before returning it, and i want to make sure im not slapped in the face with that $299 (software tampering) charge from the ever wonderful big red -_-
It seems to be a complete brick but i wanted to consult people of greater knowlege than myself.
If there is no power coming from the device, I think you should be ok. I think you might of fried the motherboard. If so there should be no problem with them replacing it since they themselves cannot power up the phone and see that it's rooted.
