Last night i was trying to flash a new update on my tab from Kies when horror there was a power cut thus leaving my beloved tab dead. Today i rang samsung support to book a service and during the conversation the agent told me that later this year samsung will release a honeycomb update for the 7 inch tab. At this point i asked how come as from reading threads i was under the impression that this was not going to happen and the only way was through a port from one of the amazing developers like spacemoose1 (cdma) and ssserpentine (gsm) his answer was that samsung wanted to compete with apple even more. has anyone else been told this from samsung ?

2nd .. Do U believe this Sh*t for God sakes .. its is impossible to happen !!!!!!! if they want to run with APPLE they should release it now or before ...
WE ARE REACHED THE FINAL STEP ( GINGERBREAD ) perhaps will be (ICECREAM) but honeyComb hell no ...
To The OP .. pls do change your thread Title is not a question , and if you like to keep it here in THE GENERAL SECTION that not suppose to post A Question thread here ...
thanks for sharing
1st the question i am asking is has anyone else been told this from samsung. if you read the post
2nd the honeycombe thread is now split as spacemoose1 and ssserpentine are now working together space doing the cdma release and ssserp doing the gsm so thanks shoould be given to both parties.

all the respect to my mate (SSS) but he is not who building the HONEYCOMB ... Correct Me If I'm Mistaken !!!
@k0sh Technically, he is building the GSM version, but a majority of it is a port from Spacemoose.
@OP *sigh* Its bull****. Samsung want us to be happy by telling us lies. Read any other Honeycomb for our Tab related thread (no development threads) and you'll know that no device that launched with FroYo (like our Tab) will get Honeycomb. That's straight from Google who can deny any manufacturer the chance to give their devices updates.
It doesn't matter what anyone from Samsung says, Google said 'no'

Mate i doubt about it .. can you then explain this for me ..
Second, that thread will be managed by ssserpentine. He will also be handling the distribution, packaging and eventually the kernel development for the GSM as well. This way I'm freer to focus on the development of the base rom for both devices. So expect a new thread with a new GSM release to pop up any minute now. ssserpentine will do a good job of getting things out to you, he's super resourceful and dedicated to making HC a more awesome experience.

Taken fron ssserpentines honeycomb gsm thread
This is an ALPHA version. There is no 3g, among many other things. Using an alpha rom can be very dangerous. Don't just flash, because you see its HONEYCOMB, read everything very carefully first!
(6/14/11)
After being up way too many hours in a row, and trying to do too many things at once, work on a new kernel has officially begun!
★what's in the oven. .
»new cwr with internal external support.
»1.2ghz
»uc ability
»reliable charging while power is off.
«doubtful, but cross your fingers for lagfix?
(6/13/11) : GSM owners. Alpha 2.5 has arrived!! (No 3g)I highly recommend you start off in FROYO, as coming from GINGERBREAD causes crashes. Use the overcome 1.6 instructions, if you are currently on GB.
But, beware, changing your bootloaders is very dangerous!
*modded build.prop to identify itself as a Samsung Galaxy Tab as GT-P1000. - test runs, not included in cdma release
*modded audiolib to accept dsp manager setting. (more equalizers comming soon) - test runs, not included in cdma release
*what I have planned, and currently in the works.*
* New kernel with 1.2, 1.4 oc
* Flexible scaling
* Attempted lagfix
* New CRW version with internal and external sd support
* SD cart mount upon boot
that is him as i understand it and it looks like he is developing it now

Ill try and dig up the link, but do a search its posted somewhere here on the forums, and their reasoning behind it is;
they don't want 39 million china tablets coming out and giving honeycomb a bad name.
I ran into this problem the other day, someone at uni had a 7inch china tablet with froyo and everyone was talking about how **** android must be
i had to pull out my device and be like, nawwwwwwww.
Majority of people are retards and it only takes one china device to give android a bad name

Stop flooding, no offense, but if you had read correctly threads in this forum (wildfire android development) you would have see that anyway :
- HTC will release 2.2 roms for their wildfire smartphone
- Virgin Media annonced their release for this month / might be the first to release 2.2 for wildfire
- we'll get CyanogenMod 6.0 anyway, they need to work on it or get their hands on a wildfire 2.2 roms. just a matter of time.
plus, Virgin Media is only a telecom provider, they won't port themselves anything; they'll just wait to get the HTC 2.2 official (WWE / unbranded) rom and mod it to include their settings.
Please, check your sources before posting 2 lines concerning a mail you sent in a hurry and its answer, especially when its such a bad news / against every infos we have already.
If you want to see how things evolve, wait and see, read what's said in important threads and wait again.
There's no point in asking for links or infos / posting "up" / etc... as nothing concerning froyo has been released, any "non-productive" posts won't help relevant infos to be SEEN. who would read 57 pages on the WildPuzzle thread when most of the post are redondant and concerns problem users made themselves not taking time to read and flash correctly...
Sorry if I'm preaching on you, thats a "Developpement" forum, every new events brings a constant flood of impatient people. We need clarity
Ps: I'll finish this post by a simple hug, we cool right ?
im quoting from the email the twitter team of virgin media sent me: "There is an impending update for the Desire which is due to be released shortly. In regards to the Wildfire there is nothing we can say this stage or whether there is going to be an updated available."
and, no worries im not offended at all.
and FYI, i have read nearly all posts in all threads and ive been doing so for about a month now.

Middle august they posted this :
http://twitter.com/virginmedia/statuses/21400176328
without any other twitt about it, I take this link as reference. They might delay the wildfire's release, which would make sense as no one else announced official 2.2 roms (vodafone/xxx/htc...) soon.
There's also this post from MartinEve, you had read yourself :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8074616&postcount=28
Thats why 2 lines resuming the opposite with even less "official" source is disturbing
ps: I'm not saying you don't read anything, it's a small amalgam, I'm responding to you BUT saying things that applies for all
im just sayin what they told me. believe it or dont.
besides its not anything less official than what they posted in august.
and yes i read that and thats what made me ask them via twitter myself, in the hope of getting and eta or anythin like that.

Well unless someone steps up to do the G1 work i do believe so. As you can see there is a CM7 for Hero, which runs on about the same specs, more Ram, but we have seen the AOSP Gingerbread builds running quite well on G1, so i guess CM could work too.

You need to think before you post. The OP's question was NOT in ANY WAY out of line.
I hope someone like ezterry can help the team.
or maybe someone can port the build to the g1 (from hero?), like for windows mobile devices(cm6 on htc touch pro,hd2,...).

You actually think that a bunch of random crap added into the end of that thread has any valid meaning?
How about you go ask CM himself... oh wait, somebody already has, and he said very specifically that it HAS NOT BEEN RULED OUT, it is just LOW PRIORITY.
Now personally, CM for Dream was never much good. Just way too much bloat for the hardware. Ezterry's work on the dream is much more interesting.
from cyanogenmod forum:
Sorry folks, end of the line on CM6 nightlies for DS; and I have yet to get confirmation of CM7 Nightlies for DS.
Will open new thread if it materializes.

AMEN, AMEN
I believe very few are as intimate with the intricacies of the D/S subsystem as Cyanogen. Those that are intimate with it may not feel the need to keep this hardware going. I admit that I'm eternally grateful to all the ROM developers here for all their hard work. Stock G1 is boring as **** and feels so restricted. Ever since I got root on this phone a year+ ago and started flashing ROMs, I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders as if I shed the chains of slavery or some **** lol.

Well it kinda has been almost 3yrs since the G1 came out, its been officially discontinued and people are moving on...But it seems the G1's community just hasn't died yet, I came here to see if 2.3 was available and I was surprised to see the source for it was up. I was a bit hesitant to use 2.3 since 2.2 was really laggy for me, but I'm sure others are happy with 2.2/2.3. But it's good to see that devs are still supporting this device, I wish the slide's community was this active...I actually feel jealous

True enough, although it has only been out for 2.5 years, and it was sold as recently as maybe 1.5 years ago. That means that people will have them under contract for a while longer yet. Plus, we're talking about expensive devices - people aren't necessarily going to want to upgrade them just for the heck of it (FYI - if anybody is upgrade eligible T-Mo has been giving away free-after-rebate G2s recently on their website).

Have you tried the new radio with the extra RAM? It makes a VERY big difference - my G1 is actually pretty decent running 2.2 with it.
I just replaced my MT3G with a HTC Desire (Bravo). I had so much fun, flashing and customising so thanks to everyone at XDA. I was a recieiver of all your hard work and I am thankful for your efforts.
Yeah, its a sad day for me, but all is not lost as I see that the DESIRE has a CM7 branch and some studious person(s) have worked out a way to get CWM running with full system access on the DESIRE. It will start again, but I will buy a new shell/keys for my MT3G, get it back to "new" looking and keep it, for it was the best phone I ever owned - Peter
I know it has been announced only a few hours ago and the source is not available yet. But, when Google finally releases the source code, will there ever be a ROM for the original Galaxy Tab?
I am curious because the answer to this question will help me resist the new tablet temptation
Having a hard time with HC, I doubt it with ICS....even the GB ROMs are not very polished, like Overcome causes warming up problem....
It can be short...
Maybe it will arrive sooner as we think, not with cyanogenmod, even if i want it on my tab, but with MIUI, I just read on the MIUIteam fr that MIUI have the source since they have the status of developpers with the XIAOMI, and they are already work on the Mi-one and the two nexus, so maybe the us team who develop the MIUI Rom for our tab will be able to port ISC on the galaxy tab?
I just hope that we can have ISC on our tab before Christmans it will be great!
ICS
From the news:
"Gabe Cohen from Google claims that most Gingerbread devices may have an upgrade to Android 4.0, claiming that it is theoretically compatible with any Android 2.3.x device"
I would presume (going off the little snippits of info I've gleaned) that almost ANY device will be able to run ICS in some capacity or another since it is designed to be all encompassing. (Think Ubuntu for comparison) Admittedly some older devices will struggle due to the specs but this is the same for every old device.
I could be completely WAY-OFF the mark but I believe el-goog is heading down the Canonical Road and pretty soon we will have OS's that just play well together, be it on mobile, laptop, PC, TV yadda yadda yadda......and then we'll see a small moon appear on the horizon
No wait, "That's not a moon.....It's a SPACE STATION!" cue dramatic music and suddenly everyone and their dog will be screaming "IT'S A TRAAAAAP!" "TURN THIS SHIP AROUND!" but by then we'll all be caught in the tractor beam and headed for a Schwartz-off with Dark Helmet......
Jus sayin
Developers get new devices and forget about old ones. Time's working against us...

How does a question not belong in general? Is the general sub forum not for General discussion. Don't mean to be rude just wondering how that does not encompass a question (heck a development thread could in theory fall under the general category), i understand that there is a specific category for q&a and trying to order the chaos; it just seems to me you can't really claim anything doesn't belong in general in order to delete and or warn a user.

Andy: Thank you for being awesome - lots of admins I've worked with throughout the years would probably throw a hissy over perceived insurrection when questions of protocol are asked. Your professionalism is greatly appreciated.
I am so glad that google appears to have gone with an open model this time around - it looks like they actually worked to maximize compatibility with the wide range of GB running devices and made everything pretty portable. of course we'll know more about that in a week or so when google drops the sources on us.
from what i understand, this will be the first time we've had proper public sources since the GB release.
the new feature set looks like it'll be pretty amazing so long as they optimized it well... I don't really care if newer fancier phones and tabs have more resources... more resources should allow you to do more things better, NOT an excuse to settle for sub-par optimization of code because "oh, it doesn't matter anymore, all new devices have enough ram and cpu speed to handle it!"... </rant>

I agree!!! More so if ICS is the hybrid between honeycomb (tabs only) and gingerbread (smartphones only), it should work on Original Galaxy(OG) tab, at least for those upgraded to gingerbread. Now we have OG 7" on 2.3, sg-tab 7 plus on 3.2 and possibly sg-tab 7.7 on ??4.0(I guess), sammy better get ICS on all otherwise it'll be hard selling all three.

I thing the original sgt7 is no longer part of the lineup i belive it has been discontinued. So the 7 plus is 3.2, as is the 10.1, and the 7.7. Samsung has settled on honeycomb for the lot but have already stated that each of these tablets will get upgraded to ics "real soon". On the flipside they all but confirmed that ics wont be coming to the original sgt7 making me very sad.
Samsung imho has really bad support for os updates in that they taje forever to release them and they are notorious for droping hardware / os support way too fast. My original sgt7 came out only about a year ago (last nov iirc).

yes, that's true, there is lots of private third-party ICS development going on to get a good AOSP rom up and functional. I think that's going to be most dependent on the galaxy tab ics dev thread here and then the cyanogen guys will go ahead and hack it smooth with extra features and the like as they generally do. I was specifically tallking about samsung OEM rom support.
and FIY, there is already a worked over SDK port of honeycomb for the galaxy tab 7 that seems to run pretty smooth that you might want to check out here if you're interested. the ICS stuff looks like it's shaping up, but I expect it to be at least a few months before everything becomes smooth enough for use as a daily rom.
Hello everyone,
The ICS Port Progress report
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383942)
was updated a short while ago,
Now the LG Optimus 2x doest show up anymore =(
Did they canceled the develpoment for the O2x?
Why did they do it? =( It was already on the third Alpha.
I know the G2X is still there and its also in 3rd Alpha but before the update there was a seperate version for the O2x.
Is it the same now?
Also i know that the discussion thread was closed because of some idiots spamming useless crap in there..
thanks for any answer
cheers
I don't think there is any point in continuing untill nvidia release the needed drivers otherwise it just isn't possible, they are just fighting a losing battle wont be able to get priority features to work without them.
The G2x is still there, so i wouldn't worry much.
Hello!
No, they are still in development...
BTW: There is an existing threat on this.

You need to be a little more patient. The devs are doing this for free in their free time and I am pretty sure they all have jobs and family and lot of other things to do.
...but I am still pretty sure their will be a working CM9 before LG with its paid dev staff will release an ICS port.

But not before nvidia release their drivers me thinks.
Hello!
Maybe...we don't know. But it would speed up things considerably no doubt.
Nvidia said they would release driver for ICS Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 devices early this year - but they did not give a specific date. Lets hope early this year means soon...
But the question was is the ICS Port cancelled - and the answer is no...
Alright thank you guys thats awesome!

Wicked! Thanks so much guys for working on it! I have the link bookmarked you are the best!
And i think there are already way too many threads discussing whats getting ICS and whats not...
So I've had the Edge for a while now and just got the lollipop update. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my device, but I am a root/flash freak and I really enjoy all the hard work that is given by the developers to help our devices be that much more cutting edge. I told myself I wouldn't root my device at least until after the lollipop update, then I would look into customizing my device. However the issue is there is LITTLE TO NO development for the edge.. Coming from a long history of galaxy devices this is something I'm not used to experiencing.. I have been waiting patiently for it to pick up but nothing seems to be moving..
I've said all that to say/ask this.. Is there much difference in the development for the note 4 vs the note edge, are there any custom ROMs that are compatible with both devices? If so what are they? Any themes that are compatible with both devices? Any developers willing to offer a little development here and there? Any way I can help with that? I mean I know this is asking alot. And I'm not trying to come off as a douche, don't need the "smart alek" responses as I am being sincere here.... Sorry I hope I'm not breaking any OP rules either.. HEELLLPPPP... Lol, naw but frfr..?????

There is a difference in the sense that you will always have SOMETHING to flash. We have AOSP builds where developers are updating every other day. We have a stock base rom by Tekk and he literally update about twice a week. Now that lollipop is here, we are waiting on developers to update or they are in the process of perfecting their roms to where Kitkat was. Development is up and running...as far as coming out with new features and what not, not so much. I will suggest you look around...be our guest, a sip here and a spoon full there while examining the change-logs and comments

Awesome. But I think in all my rambling I didn't quite convey the message or ask what I intended to..
Are there any GN4 ROMS that are compatible with GNE?
