[EE03][APP] Galaxy SII Widgets - Epic 4G Themes

Found this in the Galaxy i9000 Themes&Apps section, and it works perfectly on the Samsung Epic.
Push these to your system/app, and they should work.

Haven't tried. My guess is they would work. Push them to your system/app and see if you can use them.
P.S. The nice thing about these widgets are they can be usable on ANY launcher.
Like other Samsung widgets, you do not need the TW Launcher to use these widgets.

What launcher are you using? I know it shouldn't matter but maybe since you're on FroYo, it'll only work on the Touchwiz Launcher? I mean, that's farfetched but worth a shot.
Most likely, it's not 2.2 compatible. Sorry.

I'll try to fix this right away.
Meanwhile, Try downloading the .apk from the link I provided then. Idk if my computer is being goofy.

I tried the .apks and this is what I've got so far:
FC's on the email widget - doesn't even load before crashing
And the digital **** doesn't show up in the menu
I'm gonna try to flash them right now and do you know if those other apps there work too?
(FYI Using midNIGHT ROM v6.0 Gingerbread)
------EDIT------
I just installed it using CWM and it works perfectly. Both the clock and email work. I had to setup email cus I never used it but apparently it might be different from the original app. Again I don't completely know. Gonna try the other apps now to see if they work.
Thanks!

Earlier this week, I tried to overwrite and use the SGSII Email App but it didn't actually stick after the flash, remained unchanged, would that be possible to port over for us?

I just tried the social hub and it didn't show up. It flashed through CWM but it was nowhere to be found in the drawer. I'm going to try the others but I'm guessing they won't work.
----EDIT----
SUCCESS! The Reader Hub loaded amazingly with a warning from Samsung saying they are not responsible for the third-party app and anything downloaded from it. I haven't messed around too much but at least it launches. That's 3/8 things working from that list, and hopefully more. I might be using the email widget as a normal thing now too. Anything else you need testing? I'm in the mood to do some testing now haha

Alright, I figured as much.
So you were able to flash the .zip versions of these and it worked? I should just put that in the OP instead since my comp is acting weird with recognizing .apks. I'll try using my friend's PC actually later today.

Tell me how it goes. It probably won't work, but who knows?
One thing I don't get is: why won't it work? Like, we both run Gingerbread and we're both Samsung Galaxy S's. Sure, there's is international and may have framework changes and no keyboard, but how does that affect how the app performs?

It might just be some device specificity's that we don't know about that's stopping it from working but who knows. One thing is for sure it won't screw up our devices like other apps might. And another thing, on the Reader's Hub when you click on "News" it says "Service Will Be Available Soon".
Good news and Bad news with SamsungIM:
Bad News: like predicted it didn't work; maybe a dev will get it working
Good News: The weather clock WORKED but for me only half. Maybe its because midNIGHT uses LauncherPro Free and I can't extend it without having to pay.
I don't need PolarisOffice so I'm not going to check that because most people also don't need it.
But we have 4 out of the 8 listed apps/widgets that were up there and that's a good start without any modifying.

When trying to flash the Weather Widget it says installation was aborted.
If you could, try downloading ADW launcher or something and see if that changes anything.

Loki 2.4.WHAAAA???? - It always lasts longer the second time around.

First off, my apologies to anyone and everyone out there who used, assisted, provided feedback, and worked on anything for this Loki, its time has come to pass. I hope you will understand after reading the following.
Mods, please close this thread. And please don't delete it right away if you're going to, I'd like my users to get a chance to know why its gone.
Well, the second time around, before its break time, definitely lasted longer than the first. I hold absolutely no ill will or bad feelings towards anybody out there, and have nothing but respect and admiration for those that guided me in the vast amount of learning I've done in the Android world.
However, it seems that there were decisions made by members of EDT, and I was unfortunately not included in that loop. Changes are being made to the team, and I wish them the best of luck, but its not for me. You hear the he said, she said of what goes on, but really none of it matters in the long haul. If I stepped on anyones toes or did a damn thing that offended or hurt anybody's feelings, I sincerely apologize.
I am pulling Loki, because there is entirely too much EDT source in the build, and I wouldn't feel right about hosting it any longer. I might be back around one day with something brand new, but for now, there's quite a few roms out there I want to try, and I have some more learning to do.
Just finished DL'ing SimplyGalaxy, you know what time it is....

Great work, just not the biggest fan of black /white. Nice nonetheless
sent from the galaxy of Loki 1.3
Perfect timing. I was 5 minute away from flashing Loki1.3. Loki still gives me the best battery and performance. Here's hoping for more of the same.
Aww Man i really liked Loki 1-3 but because of the AOSP look. This looks completely different. We dont have a stable AOSP rom other than 1-3 but in that version the Nav didnt work. Well do you ever think you'll ever go back to the AOSP greyish look agian?
Lookin good
Nice brick. Looks real nice. Great job.

Yeah I was in between a rock and a hard place. Had the old version themed more in depth, but it would update as soon as you connected the market and lose my theme. Rather than have everyone try to quickly uncheck auto update for it, I decided to put out what google gave us for the latest version, if they patch it soon as I hope they will, I'll put out an update to match this one.

Was thinking of replacing all the icons with regular ones, I like the theme, but I end up with random colored icons. What's the quickest way, copy them from another rom?

I'm actually going to opposite direction on my personal phone, and am going to theme all the icons I can of my own programs to match. Things like titanium and rom manager wont show up in the app drawer with a changed icon, and exactly the reason why titanium is the only beam of color in the app drawer.
You could grab the majority of the apps from Loki 1.3 if you are so inclined, 1.3 was a kb1 base, all of the apps should be compatible.
For the couple of you last night who preferred the aosp-ish icons, I can easily throw together a flashable framework that will restore those icons later on today or tomorrow, unless one of you beat me to it. You would have to unpack 1.3 framework and copy the icon pngs into the 2.0 framework then flash it. I would not recommend just using the 1.3 frameworks.apks themselves, the additional lock screen options would cause a soft brick, but the images would move over easily from the old apk to the new one.
Sent from my Loki powered Vibrant on the XDA App
i also liked the 1.3 look it was cool, hopefully in upgrade u will go back to that design
If y'all want I'll throw the notification icons into this framework, but guys, I'm not undoing what I spent near two weeks doing Loki. Let me know if y'all want those icons back though.
kcp877 put together a dark themed MMS for those that want an option to the AOSP MMS, and it looks gorgeous! I can't get screenies at work, the firewall blocks me from dl'ing the full sdk, but trust me its nice! Can be found in the second post in this thread. Push in with your favorite SU File Explorer until I can get a flashable made.
Download, rename, push, fix permissions.
Doesn't delete your messages. If you aren't sure if you want it, rename your current mms.apk in the system/app folder to mms.apk.bak first, them if you need to change back its already in there for you.

Thanks kcp! Can confirm it works, I pushed with SUFBS without even rebooting, and it works just fine! Looks nice too, and the file has been added to the 2nd post in this thread.
Edit: I didn't rename it either, works as MMS in the app drawer with the name it has on dl.
For those of you using wifi calling, here's one to push to get rid of the blue box icon in the notification bar, same thing push, etc. only thing is if you delete your old on first you will get force close and have to pull the battery, just push and fix permissions to overwrite the old one. if you do get stuck rebooting, it works fine after, just a slight hiccup. The alternative is to rename the kineto.so file in lib temp to keep it from fc. Just an extra step.

DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING WITH THE LOOK! I APPRECIET THE (oooops, sorry for the all caps) difference in the design.. It's like a breath of fresh air!
Now, I STILL GET THE "STARTING BLUETOOTH" BEING STUCK ISSUE (oh geeez, my caps key keeps getting stuck) when I dial out using my bluetooth headset. This is such a beautiful rom, I wish i could dial out using by bluetooth headset.
It must be more of an issue since it never could get fixed from Loki 1.2 up to today. There must be something indefinitely wrong with the grass-root coding with this rom.

[App] WP7 Music Player Alpha

If anyone is interested there is a new build for the WP7 music player for android. I love the design of the player, and from the little I have used it the app seems to work great on the Fascinate.
Source: Fede Carnales
https://twitter.com/#%21/fedecarnales/status/71367506698317824
There is also another version over at WP7Android that I was oblivious to. It is in closed beta but it looks great and I can't wait for it to be released
http://wp7android.com/apps/
Edit: Source link added, Picture removed.
For what its worth .. the one in our wp7android project has wwaaay more features
Ours is still in closed beta, but is way ahead of this one. He is a great developer though. I'm sure it will get there.
Actually ... your screenshot is of our app ...from a pirating site ...

I downloaded this earlier and this is the newest app that Fede (maker of Launcher Pro) is making. Its in Beta but I'm liking it so far. Still end up using Poweramp. Unless, this is a different app than Fede's, proper credit should be given imo.

The app he linked to is Fede's . The screenshot is ours which has been taken from a pirating site where it leaked . Search market for Zplayer . We had to stop updating it there because of all the leaks .
I was only saying ours as of now is ahead of Fede's ... and the screenshot is of ours . Since with his , you can see the notification bar and the word music is smaller . Ours is full screen (as pictured above) and the word music is larger . Trust me, i know my own groups apps when i see them
Good start from Fede though . Like i said , he is a good dev and im sure it will get better with more options . We are doing the entire UI , not just the media player .

So is the zplayer in the market your version or the pirated one ?
Zplayer in the market is ours. But we haven't updated it there because of piracy. But, we realize there is really no realistic way to stop piracy .. it's part of the world. So we have some math to change in the scrolling and it will be updated there. That should be pretty soon. I have an internal test build now ... but when we fixed scrolling, it broke something else haha. So that will be worked out soon and pushed to the market.
Also, I'm working with the guys on a little promotion to give the wp7 lock screen away for free. Im running a test now and its awesome. So as soon as I get it cleared with the others, I will post details.

good, i bought it. still a bit laggy but i bet there are bugfix versions coming ;-)
I wonder how the recognition of artists and cover arts is working... since it doesnt seem to really work (on fedes neither).
I dont have id3 tags for all mp3, but at least the name of the artist and song title as mp3 name. i guess the easiest way would be to look for plausible names here as well right ? this doesnt work, also if it must display a cover art, then a generic and not 200 times the same that is completely wrong by the way
cheers

For some reason I thought what you were working on was associated with Launcher 7, but I see that you are going to have a completely different launcher. Pretty exciting. How is it different exactly? (I've never used a Windows 7 Phone, just Launcher 7 on Android)
Should we just follow your site for updates, or is there an XDA thread?

The main difference is ours is not just a launcher. We are working on a suite of amps to change the overall ui to wp7. We love the looks of the os, but don't want to leave android for it. So the idea is to mix the best of both worlds.
The lock screen (posted above) promotion will probably start tonight or tomorrow. We got it to a point last night where we are comfortable with releasing it.... for free even . So if you haven't done so yet. Sign up at our website. WWW.wp7android.com and check the details out there . I also got a deal with theultralinx.com, so the info will be posted there as well.

This is a full theme that's ambition is simple; turning all instances of color thru-out the entire ROM, including many common user apps, to various shades of blue. This project will be on-going; as I get better at theming so will the theme get better. I make no claims of complete originality, as some images have been swyped from other themes (if u see ur work, please claim it so that i can credit or pull it) That said, most work is my own (in as much as modifications of someone else's work -HTC's- can be called ones "own" ) I also need to thank Gunthermic, whom I continue to bug daily with my incessant questions, lol. Thnks gun! Also can't forget about TommyTomatoe, whom has helped me tremendously in the last two weeks. (Thnx to him I can again edit .9.png's, and xml's as well) Also bad4u6669, he's also helped me on many occasions (actually this theme is kinda inspired by bad4u's work on Epidemic ....thnks bro!) .. ***Edit: thnx to bad4u6669 I am now able to theme all of Sense (.....as long as he keeps building my mods, lol!) ...and last but not least a special Thnx to McLabia for giving me a hassle free place to host and advertise my work. I am very, very grateful brother!

dak_181- (the earlier version of fusion.apk, 'Synergy Blues' update script -the first one. Early "Blues" wouldn't have looked right w/out your work bro)
gunthermic- (ongoing, advise, guidance and patience ...i always go to gun 1st)
tommytomatoe- (constant advice and patience. Special Thnx for your great theming tool; 'android Utility')
McLabia- (Server provision, always super helpful and patient ...in a MC kinda way, lol)
bad4u669- (very helpful! Now all APK's containing m10 files are built by bad. Sense would barely be themed w/out his contribution)
he_stheone64- great XML advice, constant inspiration!
roscoenr- great XML advise. Super helpful!

Heads up this installs and everything seems to work on 8-12 build of synergy aside from HTC calender widget it seems to have nuked it entirely lol.
I installed the stock battery version.
CANNOT wait for that sexy drop down.
Any luck doing the menus? Like when hitting menu from homescreen and other menus like for gmail?

Lol, cool, at least its just the calender. I'll look at it in a bit.
Yeah, I'm at a stand-still with that dropdown. I'm just waiting for some bright idea ....or gunthermic to figure out. I gotta talk to him again.
Wut about the 'menu's? U mean the getting all the icons to match? That's proven to be one of the more challenging things. I've themed all those icons that those should be drawing from.... Ima take another look tonight. I'll definitely get them. Just takes time ....it bugs me too. I think its just this new Sense. I'll ask gun.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Or do u mean inverting them like the I plan to do w/ the dropdown? Cuz that's actually next!
That's why I haven't been working hard to make all those icons match. They'll need changed anyway for the dark bg ....coarse I plan on doing two versions of those ......like most things so I'll havta to both anyway
.....yeah, I still got a TON of work to do!
Haha I can only imagine the work involved, i'm sure its quite intense.
I was referring to when you hit menu and all apps, notifications, personalize, wallpaper, ringtones and settings comes up in the little "6 spaced grid".
Sorry probably have terminology all wrong ! Either way I know it takes time, just excited about what's to come because this adds alot of class to this already nicely themed wrong already on 1st revision.
BTW I tried messing with both htc calender widget apk's and couldn't get it to work again.
Not that I know much beyond moving things to system/apps and changing permissions lol.
That looks Stoopd SECXEE Bruh..More Blue w/icons, Contacts and Dialer pad would be ideal.

Try pulling 'Calendar.apk' from the theme zip and reflash. U won't notice a difference without that one anyway. Just put on ur desktop, open with 7zip, go to /system/app/Calendar.apk and delete.
If that doesn't work ...or u just don't feel like it, I'll have an update soon. By morning prolly
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
U can also delete 'htccalendarwidgets.apk' and possibly HtcProfileWidgets.apk without noticing a diff. I'll put updated versions into the next update
I'd try deleting the first two calendar APKs first, but like i said, ill be doing that ltr tonight or this morning.
If u just delete Calendar.apk and report bak ull potentially save me a bunch of work ....but I know it sux waiting thru whole that flashing so if u just wanna wait, that's cool too

Thnx bro. Yeah I've got some other things slated first ...like finding all instances of green, orange, etc. and eradicating it, lol ...then just getting all buttons and highlights smooth like the one in the dropdown. Then I gotta touch sum more widgets
.....and finally, I'll be doing variations on the theme, with one being sumthing very similar to wut u suggest ...just remind me down the road. But in general, yeah more blue is on the way

Yes, I know 'where' u mean. I'm sorry, I don't understand 'what' u want done.
I'll say this: I plan on making both a dark and light version ....also one with blue highlights; dark or light, I haven't decided ...maybe both. I also may make completely different icons rather than modify the existing ones.
If u guys can be more specific as to what u'd like to see in the theme, then I could better accommodate u.
If u all are something u like in another theme that u'd like to see here, please try to provide screenshots or links so that I see exactly wut u mean. I can't say whether I'll use it or whether it'll be exactly the same. I like to make things my own, but I'm also not one for changing sumthin just to be different either. If there's no room for improvement, then I'll keep it as-is.
And if anyone has work that they've done that they think would look good here, please post it and I'll see about incorporating it or atleast adding as an add-on
Just something darker really, I love the black menu from cm7 and from DH, it doesnt have to be black though.
As far as the calender widget I think I already tried everything I could do apk wise in an attempt to fix it. It's no biggy though man, I can wait

See here its up n workin:
I'm decompiling now so I can change some xml's to get it all blue. Either the red in the calender picture up top is controlled by an xml or its not in the apk ...either way, I'll get the little bastard

How to Modify the Google Search Widget?

I'm new to android, and I'm trying to learn how to theme. I've got some of the basics down, but I'm still a little overwhelmed as to what tools are best to use for modifying which items.
Currently, I am running a CM7 ROM on a Samsung Vibrant. I'd like to theme the google search widget. What's the best way to go about doing this? Is this something that can be done with Metamorph? What about Theme Chooser? Does something like Zipthemer come into play with what I'm trying to do?
This seems like it should be a relatively simple thing to do, but I haven't been able to make it work. I'm able to modify other widgets like the music player, but I can't seem to get this google search widget to change.
I'd really appreciate any and all help with this. Thanks in advance!
I haven't been able to get it to work through metamorph, so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's just not possible through that method. Any help with this?
Could try using apkmanager?
What exactly is it your wanting to do to it?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
As I understand it, apkmanager is used to modify then repackage an existing apk file. Is that accurate? If so, I don't think that will work for me since I can't re-install google search (the package won't re-install over the existing application and there's no uninstall option).
As to what I'm trying to do....right now I'm just trying to make ANY change to the google search widget. I am really using this as a learning tool, so the specific changes don't matter, I just want to learn how to do it.

Instead of trying to install normally, you can just drop the apk in /system/app. Using Root Explorer, you may want to back up the original Google Search apk. On my phone it's named "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk", yours may be named differently. Either move the original to your SD card or replace the apk extension with .bak then move the new one. You'll need to mount system as r/w, in Root Explorer the button is near the top. The modded version has to have the same name as the original, so copy the apk to /system/app and rename it if necessary. Long-press on the apk and select permissions. Set the permissions to rw-r--r-- (owner = read, write checked; group = read checked; other = read checked).
Then reboot and you should be good.
Root Explorer is a paid app, but an indispensable tool if you're going to be modding system files. It's also a great file explorer, and well worth the money. However, if you don't want to pay, ES File Explorer is free and has a root level file explorer - you have to enable root access in settings. I'm not sure how to mount r/w with ES, but there are other free apps that will do so if the option isn't built in.

Hi,
Since ur on cm 7 rom look and learn how to create themes and mod n install themes over stock system application without all the troubles.
Otherwise when u mod any system apk, application signature will change and updates from market will not even install over different signature application.
Alternative is to mod application and install via xrecovery package. With stock signature. This is little tech but not a big deal too.
I suggest theme option that's why cm7 came with theme option to mod apps.
Cheers
Thanks plainjane, I can try replacing the package as a last resort, but I'm hoping to find a cleaner way to do it.
Shiwantha, so I can use Theme Choser for this? That's what I was originally trying to use, but I couldn't get it to work. As long as I know that it's possible, I at least know what to focus on.
Thanks to all for the responses!

Hi, it can be done in theme chooser, I have done it
I made my theme chooser app with a great guide found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964391 and a lot of patience...
I did find it a bit annoying, as the ROM im using came with two seach widgets, GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk and QuickSearchBox.apk ... So when I tried editing the widget (with theme chooser) it wasnt the right one! So maybe try both if you have both!
Any how, yes it is possible... Theme chooser may be the easiest way. It is possible with ApkTool/ApkManager. Apk Manager might help as it can push the app to /system via adb, and Apk Manager lets you keep the signature if it is a system app, but it may also corrupt it...
Hope this helps you, Matt

This one I created for my X10 Honeycomb theme some times back. its planned to install via xrecovery for X10 froyo then.........

So in case anybody was wondering, I think I see what the problem is...both apktool and apk manager don't seem to be decompiling/recompiling properly. I didn't notice with apktool, but apk manager gives me errors when I try to decompile.
I'm guessing it's because I have to reference something from my samsung device in order to decompile properly, but I'm not sure what.
The best mod that you can make for the google search widget is to delete it! Your phone has a search button for a reason! Why do you want to waste your home screen space? No, really, I really am curious... Flame away and prove me wrong, please lol

HAH! Well...mostly because I've only had the phone (and this is my first android) for about 4 days and I didn't realize there's a search button on it.
But that aside, I really just want to learn how to theme the different aspects of the phone, and I just picked the google widget as my first project cause it was there.

So it seems this home launcher is picking up some steam again... I thought maybe if I started this thread, we could get some devs on board and pick up support for this great launcher. Show some love and support by posting your screens and if you would like to share your setup, it's up to you (just don't forget; like I did to credit the original creator if you use their work... :0}

Thanks for starting this thread, I do hope the devs work on the launcher again. That said since all the themes are available for download within the launcher, it would be nice if we credited the original ones too right? I see you're using a modded setup of my original theme (sheepo), would be nice if you could mention that too. I have made too many sweeterhome themes to post all here atm, will do later sometime. Indeed a very nice launcher, I loved this concept of share to care.
I didn't know it existed until someone posted some screen grabs in a thread I watch recently.
Peeked at the forum and it looks dead & overrun by spam bots. Is the launcher stable enough for daily use? I'm downloading some different themes & messing around & it doesn't seem that hard to do. Will probably play with other people's themes a while before trying out one of my own.

I used it as daily for a pretty long time. It's not that it's that hard to customize, it is that it takes so much time!
I played for a while now and it seems pretty straight forward to me for most things. I like how in the sample themes people have made all sorts of setups that go in totally different directions.
Some quick thoughts/questions in no special order:
- User Base: I'm glad to see a couple replies already. I really don't want to get into this if I'm the only one using it. Need to have some people to bounce ideas off of & ask questions.
- Is it still in development, or is it 'finished' just the way it is?
- I like the idea of a slide down to the bottom of the + for all apps, but oddly I'm not seeing the use of the other 3 sides when it seems (off the top of my head) easier to hide & un-hide everything on one screen.
- There still no way to get to the other screens without a slide? Would be nice to make a button with a special action of jumping to one of the other screens.
- In some of the minimal themes, I see the use of the Contacts plugin/widget/thing. I like the look on the themes, but I don't want to see ALL of my contacts, just the favorite dozen or so. Any way to do it that I'm missing, or anyone know of a normal Android Widget that can show something like that?
- Overall, I'm probably going to play for a while & save version after version on my sd card (need to see where is saves, btw) BUT at some point I will really need to think if this method works any better then just Launcher Pro/Go Launcher/more 'normal' android home screens.

One of the main reasons I started this thread was I noticed more and more people using this launcher. It really is amazing how much customizing you can actually do. I was hoping if we get enough users the devs would pick up support for this and more features could be added. I am not sure if there has been any movement on this but the latest beta version was dated February 12th 2012(according to the website.) I too have not really found much use for the other slides but I guess it is nice if anyone uses a lot of widgets or simply just likes the real estate. I have not found if there is a way to jump to another screen by adding a springboard function, but I am still new to the launcher... Overall I feel this is the best launcher I have used as far as customizing goes, being able to move widgets, pictures, text boxes, wallpapers, colors, anywhere on the screen, as well as hide/unhide items; it's a themers dream... Just my two cents... On that note... Let's see some more screens!!!
