[Q] Help getting from Cognition2 beta5 back to stock, no Odin..

Hey there, i have searched around for a day or so and found a similar post on here but no real answers thus far. There is a ton of information out there so i may have missed it but my phone is having issues so i really need to wipe and go back to stock, then update from there...
Running Cognition v2.2 Beta5.5 UCJ16. Love the rom but i have had some issues and decided to upgrade to the new Cog rom then found out i cant without going back to stock first. Tried to do that with "Odin" but i get the USB not recognized when going into download mode, Odin will not pick up the phone. I did read the entire Odin faq and saw that other ppl have had this issue but did not really find a solution. I can get into dl mode fine and i've never ever had an issue with my cpu not picking up the phone via the USB until now. Tried the adb reboot, volume buttons, everything in the faq, it's a no go & all my drivers are up to date. So far i can't do anything and it's getting a bit frustrating lol.. I rooted with the Galaxy S One click Root by TGA_Gunnman, not sure if that helps any.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Also meant to ask, if i can't go upgrade to the new version of cognition can i flash from that one to a different rom and them maybe back to 2.1? I'm not a noob to rooting and flashing i did my last 2 phones and have rooted this one, i haven't had one single problem with anything of my phones until this one...

Try a different us port the ones on the back seem to work better

Already tried that same result, it won't recognize the device. I have to go out of town in a few days and need my phone to quit acting up lol. If i can't get it resolved by tomorrow i guess i'll just start trying to flash other roms and see if i can find one it will take and go from there..

Usb debugging turned on? You have odin opened up BEFORE you put your phone in download mode? Technically you don't have to odin to stock you just have to odin to a Rom that has 2e recovery. So you could try that if you can't get one click odin to work.

Yes i tried it with de-bugging turned on and odin running before hand. Pretty much tried everything in the Odin thread and about everything else i could find with google. The phone's just acting funky and not accepting it

How are you putting your phone into download mode?

I'm getting into download mode through doing the volume up/down then inserting the usb cable with the sim and everything out. I believe it's method 3 listed in the Odin post, it does go into download mode but i still get "USB not recognized" from both the front and back ports..

Finally got it fixed! Just tried it out on my friends laptop and everything worked flawlessly. Must be a problem in my Desktops USB somewhere but it is still odd as it worked fine and still does, just didn't work with Odin. I've seen other people with the same issue hopefully someone else can learn from my mistakes....Just try another PC lol.

Not to extend the thread but in my previous post i forgot to add, Thank you to all of you who tried to help!

[Q] Phone useless even though able to go Download Mode

My phone is screwed and I can't enter recovery mode as it will just boot loops when I do the 3 buttons combo. Used to be able to get into recovery mode without any issue before though.
I can't boot my phone too. But as much as I know, my phone is safe as long as it can go into Download Mode. Reflash to stock ROM seems to be the option but with any computer, the error USB not recognized occurs. I cannot get any computers in this world to recognize my phone.
Sent it to repairs in some local stores, they are unable to figure it out too. Anyone can tell me what to do?

so you have tried every PC in the world ?? that must of been time-consuming.
have you been into device manager and check what it says under your USB connection ?
what ROM was you using before this happened as many custom ROMs now use nexus s drivers. perhaps you could try those ??

I was using stock deodexed JVK. Not really but I have tried every possible computers I could come by. lol.
JJEgan suggested USBDeview to me but I failed to understand what he was trying to explain to me.
I haven't went to check out device manager but I have a feeling my phone isn't samsung anymore lol. somewhat like a wipe out?

press the reset button of doom, its under the back cover between the camera and speaker.
if you dont fancy your chances then just try the nexus drivers. if they have changed (which some roms change them from samsung drivers) then that could be why your phone is not detected.
try also cleaning the USB lead, check there are no bent pins, cuts to the cord, dust in the connector. same goes for the female on your device.

If I press the reset button, what's gonna happen.

the clue is in the name lol

my phone gets screwed up even more? haha. So my only option now is to try the Nexus S driver?

i am stuck in exactly the same situation n trust me nothing seems funny right now lol,its like everyone says ur phone is fine as long as u can get to download mode,v can do that,but no pc recognises the phone,so annnnoying !!! :S ,after puttin a gazzilion drivers,still no progress,finalllly i saw the usbdeview thing in ur another thread,
went in it,had no clue what to do lol ,i removed all samsung drivers,n now m sittin wonderin what next

exactly. thought everything would be fine if i send them for repairs, but none of them who are supposed to repair my phone figure anything out. obviously there is another issue worse than SGS being bricked.
By the way, would you try giving a shot by installing the Nexus Drivers and let me know if it works? My phone is still in the shop with people trying to figure it out.

i already had these drivers installed yday :S thru the sdk manager,that was when my pc detected my phone,odin detected it,i goto flash,n boom ,all gone,so i assume the drivers r still there but my phone isnt gettin detected no matter what,
il b goin to my frnds place in a while,who had his galaxy bricked n fixed,lets c what hez got 4 me.....hope for the best ,il let u no anyway

i got some hope 4 u,its that if ur phone is goin into download mode,dont worry abt it,cause i have unbricked my phone...i went to my friends house,who also has a galaxy,n he had kies in his pc,the older version,n the drivers with which kies comes,so i tried connectin it to his pc,n my phone got detected,
got odin,some custom rom,n flashed it,n it got stuck on the galaxy s screen,so went into recovery,wiped data,cache,n reboot,n it was up n running again.....
so id say try gettin the older kies n keep tryin in different coms....

I'm using Windows XP. Tried on Windows 7 too and other Windows XPs. I was briefed that something has went really corrupted in my phone. Hard disk corrupted?
It all happened when I restore what i Backup-ed from the Recovery Mode. I was told that is a stupid thing to do which cause my phone to be screwed up.
To be reminded, my phone was in deodexed JVK stock ROM.

Tried updating to ICS through KIES. Update failed

Hello guys.
I really need some help. Im going away for 2 weeks on 4 June. And after i come back ill be ghone after 2 days again for 2 weeks and i need my phone!
My story:
I saw an update for my phone to ICS. So i plugged on my laptop and put the update on with KIES 2.1.3.
At about 64% the update didnt go ferther and it gave an error report.
The program KIES shut down, and my phone turned off.
I putted everything back on. But now my phone says this:
''Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in KIES & try again.''
KIES doesnt see my phone anymore. And the recovery mode i found on the internet.
Volume button up, home button+ power button doesnt work.
It keeps going to this screen.
My phone was 2.3.6 standard, non rooted etc etc.
How can i fix this fast?
I tried rooting and flashing, but i just cant do anything with my phone exept this screen i explained.

Just download ODIN app for Windows, get right stock firmware from development thread ( Dr. Ketan's post ) and flash it with ODIN. It's as simple as clicking select file and start. Everything is described in the thread with firmware downloads.

Yes. Then there is hope. Now I recommend you to try flashing one of the stock roms from dr.ketans thread in development section.
Its not very complicated. But feel free to ask if you need more help.

I just cant explain how happy i am with this forum.

I got exactly the same problem. Called T-Mobile's helpdesk. With everything I asked, the girl said, it's in the manual. Finally, the best she had to offer was for me to send my Note to Samsung.
So then I started looking for a solution myself and found it here.
Solved it with the said solution. Flashing with Odin is a piece of cake. Thanks for the expertise folks.

Well i searched for hours to. My sister had her S2 upgraded with KIES. That worked, but the ICS update itself was plain suck.
I fixed it thanks to XDA forum. Nothing found on the internet exept sending to help desk.
Same with what i got now.
But now it is fixed and im thankfull to the ones helping.
Now i am willing to try ICS without KIES.

Like i said, KIES didnt see my phone. Neither did windows.
So it wasnt an option.

For me this didnt work. KIES had an upgrade, but seems like it still doesnt do the job right.

Ran some tests. Now i am back at the issue.
Now Odin doesnt want to continue updating like KIES always does.
I wish i didnt do the tests...

And trying out different KIES versions.
Well at the 2nd update 2.3.6 to 4.0.3 it ran stuck again.
And now Odin doesnt do anything to aswell. Keeps saying ''Failure'' after some time.

Now ODIN is stuck at syaing ''BOOT'' above ID:COM.
How can i fix this?

Well seems like the Dutch roms aint working.

Right guys, i know youve read this alot. and i know your thinking i should have searched the threads for a sulotion, but belive me i have, for days.
heres my problem, i was flasing the leaked ics onto my p990. whilst flashing, my laptop ran out of battery and didnt give me any warning atall. and as a result of that, i now have i belive a bricked p990. this is the rom i was flashing:

right now i know i should be able to recover my phone as i can connect my phone and it recognises it as apx driver, but the trouble is i can put in updating mode. ( vol down and then inserting usb) i plug in the usb without the battery inserted and without pushing any buttons and it still recognises it as an apx device, knowing this, ive tried nvflash and smart flash but both have no effect and dont recognise my phone. i will add that the version of ics that is currently out leaked. is very smooth, unfortunately bluetooth pairing doesnt work properly and wifi is a bit weak, but theres a fix for that.
i have tried flashing a cwm but to no succes. i do know some things in android flashing and repairs, but admittidly not everything so im not a complete noob.
id very much apreciate it if anyone could help me.
youll have to excuse any typing mistakes. the resolution on the tv isnt that great from a laptop hdmi out. sorry guys.

well, windows MUST recognize the o2x as an apx device since you would use the tegra apx applications processors...
you are saying that windows sees your o2x as an apx device but nv/smart-flash don't?

Unfortunately thats exactly whats happening. Any suggestions ? Ive just seen the comment below this.bive tried something similar tobthat. But not that. Ill try that first thing tomorrow when i wake up. thanks for a quick reply.

[Q] Kernel mess up or what?

Hi peep's!
Hope someone can help me. I've been installing lots of roms and found one i liked but then i got too big for my boots (i think). I decided to try the Miui v4 rom yesterday and it was ok apart from swap support so i thought i'd be clever and install the Kernel from "Super Stock". After searching i found it was called "Thunderkernel 2.2". So i installed it via cwm and it booted to a black screen.
I've now tried everything with odin. It detects the phone if i take battery out, hold "vol up + down, home and power and put battery in but it sticks at setup connection. I can even unplug the phone and plug back in and it recognises it after doing the battery trick but still sticks at setup connection. I've tried reinstalling drivers, tried all the odins and shut down everything that may interfere with com's but to no avail. I thought a wrong kernel would at most stop the rom from booting, i never dreamed it would hard brick my phone.
So is this the end of my ace? is it worth me buying a usb jig?

This is pretty much what happened to me last year. I would advise the users to stay away from miui ROM as they may cause problem with some phone. Your device is bricked . jig may fix it but it depends on your luck

I pretty much thought that'd be the case, i suppose i may as well try the jig as they're only cheap. Wish i'd just stuck with super stock. I was actually enjoying the ace for the first time it wasn't just a phone to me, at stock it was very limited. Oh well . Picked up an xperia m now but would be nice to get the ace working for my 3 sim. I'll post if it works or not, incase anyone else runs into the same problem. Thanks for the reply!

Hmm yeah I felt the same way. It really sucks that I installed a bad rom.

Where did you find the Thunderkernel 2.2?...
@Falcon G @Way333 AFAIK there is NOT Thundebolt kernel for GT-S5830 but rather GT-S5830i
That means that you flashed an INCOMPATIBLE KERNEL!!! if you flasehd the thunderboltkernel 2.2
Thunderboltkernel is only for GT-S5830i be carefull with it mates!

Yeah i thought it strange! All things seemed to add up to it being the wrong kernel. Went wrong after kernel flash was fine b4. If the rom wasn't gonna work with a kernel for the device it wouldn't brick the phone would it, the rom just wouldn't boot, unless the kernel is the wrong one for the device. Thanks for clearing that up! I'm usually good with studying first and not making mistakes.Oh well live and learn.

Hi I didn't flashed the thundrbolt kernel.I just flashed this Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280553&page=25
It gave me an error while flashing. I even wiped completely and then flashed another cm11 Rom. But when I rebooted it just became dead

A few days ago I found a guide to a procedure for the s5570 (below) which blames drivers for the "setup connection" error and I thought the same would be applicable to the ace. I know the procedure well now as I've done it so many times and all goes well until the point where the odin drivers are supposed to configure, they never do. The guy who wrote the guide no longer responds as he changed phones.
Several people reported success with their s5570's. I wondered if anyone here may be familiar with the procedure and able to help?

Hi I couldn't even get my phone to get recognized in the devices and printers menu. I don't really think it could be done with samsung drivers.
But hey did your PC recognized your device?

Sorry m8 been real busy. Yeah my pc recognizes it but i have to hold all the buttons down and slip in the battery. Comes up yellow in the coms box in odin and shows in the devices and printers menu without the caution sign. I can do that whole process but it's just the odin drivers part that doesn't happen for me. So still sits on setup connection It was a long shot but worth a try
I wish now i'd never strayed from here. I used google to find that kernel. If i'd have never done that i wouldn't be in this situation!
