Htc hd2 front camera - HD2 Accessories

Did anyone ever think about installing/making this possible? Like with a spare Evo front camera or something? Just a thought. I'm not even sure if it's possible. But if it was I would be interested.

LOL: it would be impossible since no hardware support for front cam, the sensor on top left is a photo sensor which is used for Brightness adjustment and proximity measurement

I have 2 phone's with front cam and i think i have used them twice.
When do you need a front cam ?
Do you video call with your girlfriend.
No. i do not use it, and i do not miss it on the HTC HD2

I know about the proximity sensor and stuff. And I do video chat. And couldn't someone make software to run it. It would be interesting. Maybe put it on the right side...
No need for the hostility either. Just a thought.

maybe someone will mod a USB laptop camera and gorilla glue it to the front?

lol
I'm gonna install a Core i7 into mine - it's time for the upgradings
(upgrade spelled wrong intentionally)

I think it's impossible. Use mirror.

i do not miss a front camera at all

now that skype supports video call. Front camera on skype would be a dream for me on hd2

it would be nice, but most likely impossible

So where are you going to solder that camera to if you manage to drill the plastic part of the center frame? I don't see any room on the motherboard...

in fact there has a most simple (and cheapest ) way to get a "front cam function" with your HD2, all you need to do is to find a small vanity mirror like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
or this:
then open it in 90° angle and put this mirror behind of your hd2, in front of camera. now you can launch your camera app and adjust the mirror to the best position to show your face in app.
Done!
it's so easy! isn't it? the only bug is your face is inverse in app (if you are graduated from school you should know why), but who care! video talk is just for fun for most people! so you want it, you get it!
PS: you still need use a app which support not just front cam but also main cam, to do this. it's the only limitation my dud.

einstein is here

ok. someone has made a more "beautiful" mirror.

I think it will cost a little more than my "cheapest" way, but it's still a nice choice. people always like getting more choices, so here you are.

The whole idea is for sale for manufacturing. If this happens I'm gonna get my hands on one of these.

Very good invention. But i rather buy something it had built in, no fall out and all way there when i need it.

the second one..lol.
word of advice, if you get one, NEVER i repeat..NEVER point your laser at your camera. i did it to my old SDA (with an even weaker laser) and it literally burned the camera. This is an old picture i found showing the burn marks, look at the pop can...
haha..poor sda...thats machine abuse!
i was always inclined to buy a laser..the blue/red looks cooler
but i need to do some research..they say its more "burnable"
as for the kaiser camera capability lets wait till the video drivers emerge
maybe it will improve the speed and maybe..just maybe improve the pictur quality

Yeah, now all I need is a chat roulette app and some tissues...
But seriously if I had wanted a front camera that bad I would have got a phone with one.. Seems like a risky proposition especially when a hardware mod will devalue phone tremendously even if done well.

Concerning just the physical constrains, comparing the tear down pictures of the Vibrant and the Captivate, it looks like the Vibrant has the advantage of having the molding for the FFC already there. It looks like there's no place next to the regular camera to place the FFC in the Captivate. It would be pretty cool it get this working though.
Yep, it looks like they placed the headphone jack and some plastic housing in the exact spot the FFC would go. Unless there's some tiny space between the housing and the digitizer glass I'm not seeing, you'd have to carve through the plastic housing to make room. No thanks.
wont happen without some major mod
Okay well we have been down this road many a times in this forum(myself included). And i am going to include a picture of a torn down captivate. The problem lies in the fact that the hold for the FFC is right under the mount for the main camera, where in the vibrant and i9000 they are two separate slots. It would also seem from the pictures that the boards that are controlling the camera are flipped from the i9000 and the captivate. So what we would have to do is flip the board, re-wire the circuit board under the camera from the i9000 so it dropped straight down and then maybe it would work. Here is a picture of the captivate.

If any of you have seen the PSP camera, here is an alternate idea:

OK, so i finally did it. It can be done, but you have to make sure you don't cover the earpiece.
But, i find this to bulky for my pocket, so I am working on a telescoping rod with a mirror as an alternative. Will post soon.

[HACK]Louder Speaker on Nook Color

Pretty straight forward..the speakers on these devices are far from great..I recently refurbished my HTC EVO 4G and of course I had to find some way to recycle these parts..
I took apart my nook and placed the Speaker from my HTC EVO 4G on the contacts direcrly on the board. I used some tape to hold it in place..then re assembled.
.imgur.com/63SNj.jpg
This is a picture of the two speakers side by side..HTC speaker on the right in the stock location ..
Also what I did was unfold the contact leads on the speaker..I didn't need to do tht..but I will order a new speaker and do a proper write up..
I used the DSP app and adjusted the levels..
Its all proper now...
I shall answer all questions and follow via my twitter @iamsucio please use #nookspeaker

$3 on ebay!!!!
yeap..its pretty straight forward and super cheap..i just layed the speaker on the contacts and held it in place with doublesided tape..so when i reassembled it wouldnt move..
played around with the DSP settings and BOOM!!..
i havent gotten around to ordering a new one..but i did get it a touchstone charging kit that was dumb cheap and this weekend i plan on tackling that task ..which will give me the opportunity to get in there and take better pictures..
putting this speaker in is about as easy as legos..
the nook was designed pretty well and much like the HTC phones..

There's a problem with going that route. You're still using the same crappy speaker, just making it louder, and if you make it too loud for the speaker, it sounds terrible.
If you are using CM 7 on the nook color there is an app on the playstore called "nook tweaks" that will boost your speaker volume. It has all kinds of functions for the external and internal speaker.
Does it go to 11 now?

DIY Nexus 7 Portrait Dock

Currently in the planning phase, only a rough draft has been made for it to show what it may look like when finished, it is not scaled or optimized correctly yet. The end result might end up with 4x speakers instead of 2 but that also depends on what type of speakers I end up using "I am leaning on Logitech ones at the moment".
Specifications
LED Lighting in the Nexus sign
1x 3.5mm Headphone Jack Female (front)
2x USB (back)
1x Mini usb (back)
1x 3.5mm Headphone Jack Male (under where you put the tablet)
1x Micro USB (under where you put the tablet)
2x Speakers (Might end up making them Bluetooth speakers to kill off that extra audio jack)

How im gonna build it is that I am going to submit the final design once completed to a rabid prototyping company and have them 3d print the shell out for me, I then will add the electronics that I will salvage from cheap devices and solider them together inside the shell.
If anyone knows how I can get that soft rubberized feeling from the back of the tablet please let me know, id rather go with that type of finish.
"My friend just gave me an idea on how that I might also be able to add landscape mode without modifying the design". Ill have to do a little bit of extra planning later on how I am going to achieve this.

If you use something like that, might be wise to *not* spray it on the inside of the dock where your tablet goes in. It might cause some unwanted friction against the Nexus 7.
Along with the drip stuff there are quite a few spray paint type texture paints you could try. The local big box store should have a few different options

Very cool design. I will certainly be following this. Have you picked out the company that would be prototyping this for you? I have an idea that I wanted to do myself but I couldn't find a company to do it.
I like this idea a lot. What I was thinking would be perfect for a shop/garage setup. Hope this comes together for you.

They make some impressive things.
Talked to a friend today about some design plans and he brought up the possibility of adding a few features such as making it wall mountable putting a rechargeable battery in it and a few other things not worth mentioning so I decided I am going to release the plans once completed so everyone else can build their own.
I'm doing this because of the amount of good feedback I have gotten from the 3d community I'm part of at deviantart.

Made one with illustration board. I tried using the magnifying glass lens I have laying around (I conveniently have 2) but it doesn't get the job done. Everything looks blurred until I move the phone 4 inch farther... so that's why it is required to have lens with 40-45mm focal length (regardless of diameter, I think)
I'll be making another one out of vinyl tiles while I'm looking for the proper lenses here in my area.

depends on the app. Do a search for Google Cardboard. Its still a very young market, so apps are limited. I have one app that's for watching videos, but the rest are pretty much demos of 3d experiences (google earth, roller coaster, street view). The apps split the screen into two and the headset allows each eye to get one view
But the first time people use it..... A long ....woooooowwwwww....

Hi, the magnetometer is near IR blaster, so I have to lock my phone in the glass as high as possible to make the magnet stick work
Thank you, it work, but very shaky. May be we can change magnet to more powerful (from hard drive, e.g.)? Or can use voice, or headeset button?
In my case, I use 2 ferrite magnets and hold the phone like I do above. I think you can modify the glass with a lower magnet slider
I tried a bigger neodymium magnet (20mm diameter, 5mm thick) and it didn't work.
Voice or headset button: depends on your apps
