Hi all,
I'm not sure if this forum is also good for hardware issues, but since I flashed my X1 with a custom ROM from here, I know there are many capable persons here who could maybe help me:
Last week it was raining pretty badly during an open-air event and although I had the X1 in the pocket of a water-proof jacket it must have gotten slightly wet, since after the event, four of the front keys (OK, Panel, Left, Right) and the standby/power-on-off button at the top are broken.
The front keys seem to be just disconnected, while the standby button seems to be short-circuted, as the phone is immediatly powering up when the batterie is inserted and wants to power down (i.e. it shows the "do-you-really-want-to-shut-down?" screen) after the boot-up is complete.
Other than that, everything seems to work fine. If someone here has helpful information on what to do in such a case (warranty is of coure long expired), I would be delighted.
Thanks!
PS: I already tried drying the X1 using warm (not too warm) air for an hour or so.

I've been using my HTC Diamond for about 2 weeks now.
Bought it from www.plemix.com and it came unlocked , and I had no trouble at all using it and installing the HardSPL's / updating ROM (Dutty's Diamond v1.6) .
Today I ran the TomTom Navigator 7, and after a while it started to make continuous sound - the default sound when a button is pressed or touchscreen is tapped- , so I did soft reset a few times, didn't solve it, touchscreen was kinda jammed, and I took out the battery. A minute after I put it back, and it worked fine, I took some photos right after, and everything was working fine.
Then two hours later, I took out my phone from pocket to check the time, I see it's halted on the photo screen, and no response at all. So I just turned the phone off by taking out the battery, and just left it off until I came home.
Now the touchscreen is not responding to any taps or clicks, except that it seems that it still detects any sort of tap/click, because the backlight comes on from dim state when I try to tap it.
So it definitely means the touchscreen is not completely dead, but it's just not functional most part.
Hardware buttons works fine, but I'm stuck at the initial "Tap your screen to begin configuring your Windows Mobile" after hard reset. I even updated the ROM to Dutty's Diamond v1.8 just now.
Since I can't do anything and just leave it idle, it goes to [ Align Screen ] page, and still I can't press any cross, since the touchscreen is completely not responding.
Anyone had this screen death problem? Any method of solving it?
---Updated---
Just now the touchscreen worked for 30 seconds, i could actually align the screen, then it showed me the Date/Time setting page, where I could scroll the cities , but then it stopped working again. So i'm still at Date/Screen page...
--Updated--
The touchscreen works for 2 minutes after I do a soft reset / power on&off, or I should say, it works until you press some hardware key on the bottom (volume up/down buttons doesnt affect this).
After I press any of those buttons at the bottom, the touchscreen stops working.
Also, after I turn on the device, enters WM, and runs TouchFLO3D, for the entire time touchscreen works, it's constantly pressing the tasklist dropdown (upper right corner of the screen), making it constantly pop down the task list.
have you tried a hard reset?
Yes, like 3 times. Wiped everything, OS, ROM, NANDFlash.
Also updated the ROM from 1.6 to Dutty's 1.8 ROM. Everythingn works fine except for the Touchscreen.
Right now, when I turn on, the touch screen seems to be pressing all the time at the task manager part of the screen (where the [X] is), its popping up all the time the task list, then after a while, like say, 2 minutes, touchscreen again ceases to work.
Not really promising, but you could try to remove the screen-protector. Perhaps this releases any tension onto the screen.
Thanks. I've thought of that, maybe I'll try later on.
For now i'm suspecting that maybe water went in through, so I've put the phone upside down to maybe take out the water using gravity for 2 days.
It seems like it's working better now, with longer hours of normal functioning..
I'll wait and see one more night... if water is the cause of the problem, it should dry up in say 3-4 days.
It may sound strange, but pit it face down on the carpet and rub it around for a while. Its how I fixed mine. Don't ask me why it works but I had the same thing happen. I think somehow the electrical charge got dissipated from the screen and the static from the carpet recharged it.
Actually your words makes a lot of sense
My Diamond was acting completely alright today, used GPS for 2 hours and called a few people along with many weather updates.
Seems to be working fine now...
But I think what you said is pretty reasonable, since when I rubbed my dead screen , after a few rubs it started to work (2 days ago).
Thanks
yeah this had happened to me about a week ago exactly the same thing I had hardspl mine and updated radio to .05 and then a few days after I had the identical problem. However I took a shortcut and sent the phone back in and requested a replacement claiming it was defective they agreeded and sent a new one however this one already has .05 radio on it so I didn't have to hardspl it. I can't say any of these things would have worked form me as I did not try them byt symptoms are identical. my .02
My camera led light just started acting funny an hour ago. It turned on and it si now impossible to turn the damn thing off. It still stays on when the phone is turned off. I've tried removing the battery and then put it back again. As soon as the battery is in, the light turns on again. I've tried a soft reset and ultimately a hard reset. Light remains on.
Don't want to have to go to Sony for this because I bought the phone off the bay a month ago and therefore don't have a receipt so it won't fall under warranty. Anyone have any ideas? What a pisser.
hi,same here
I think its a hardware issue where the cables have been short and are giving direct connection. I dont know if this will work but try to tap the phone a little hard on your palm. If its just a loose contact it might get sorted. This is a very crude way.
You guys want help or just venting air?
Great story.... so ?!
If you guys want venting off air, that was it! If you are looking for help however, then KINDLY state some info, like:
what the frak is the phone model, firmware, recently flashed, if so to what. Branded or unbranded, built date, etc.!
After that, perhaps a few answers can be expected
MichaeltheImage: I doubt that in this case this had anything to do with software because of the fact that it remained on after a boot or when the phone is off.
Moleculez: Yesterday it ended up fading by itself after 2 or 3 hours. This morning it started again as I removed the battery. Tapped the led side of the phone on my palm a few times; and it worked. Thanks.
"Anything mechanical, give it a good bash."
Incase someone is still looking for a way to fix this problem:
I managed to pry the plastic covering off of the camera lense/ LED with a needle.
All it took was a slight nudge on the LED cluster to reposition it. It was situated slightly off to one side, causing the short circuit which lead to the LED being constantly lit.
Problem is, in my initial frustration I poked the LED and broke it which, as a result of the short, meant that although the LED was no longer lit it still drew power from the battery.
The only way I know that the later fix worked was by using a power consumption monitoring tool to verify that the LED (and the short circuit) was no longer drawing power.
Awesome.
I can turn on the milestone with the power button but when the OS has booted up it becomes unresponsive, if i keep pressing it it sometimes goes to the power off menu but besides from that it does not work
also i can no longer boot into the bootloader but recovery still works, the last rom i installed was the cronos rom with the included kernel, i used this rom for most of the day and it was fine untill i got home
hopefully someone can help
so...no one has any idea what i can do?
Hi silvacrest, I know this is a very old post (in Internet years), but have you (or somebody else) by any chance found a fix for the problem you described? My Milestone running CM7.2RC1 just started to present those same symptoms.
Thanks!
I have the same problem, started an hour ago, i don't know why, someone please help!
Try taking the battery, SD, and SIM out and using a can of compressed air (NOT an air compressor machine, those pull tons of moisture out of the air and can cause serious damage to your phone) on every nook and cranny of the device. Around and in the headphone port, around the power button, everywhere inside the battery compartment, etc. You'd be amazed at what problems dust can cause.
Thank you for the advice, I'll try that and keep you updated!

Don't recommend this.
You will break the button for good and you'll need to open your phone, well if think you already need to do that.
The milestone button is composed of a thin foil glued to a metallic case, the glue gets old and the adherence with time will decrease and the foil will get dislocated from it's location. This is why your buttons won't work anymore.
If you use compressed air will probably break the button. I have fixed mine by putting a little thin foil of duct tape after I put the foil button in place.
Good luck.
There are more than enough videos out there that shows how to open the milestone.
Hi i2gh0st, in my case, the milestone now sometimes acts as if the power button was pressed, long or short press, waking up the device, displaying the menu or even boot when the phone is off.
You think this behavior could correspond to the foil problem you described?
I don't think so, the button should not work at all, unless it got stuck on press mode. Anything is possible its a ****y button if you look at it from an engineering way.
When I assembled my phone last time I noticed the volume up didn't work, so I opened it again and I found the foil glued to another place instead of its location. So everything started to make sense why buttons break down.
Sorry if I don't really make myself understood, I'm not that good at technical English.
Oky, can't find any relevant video or picture to show you, so I'll open my phone again in week-end after my exam and make a video or some pictures. Just wait a little
So, i was using xperia z for 2.5 weeks and everything was great so far.
But four or five days ago i noticed that power button changed the way it presses. Now, if i havent turn the screen on for some time, the button makes a little crunch when it is touched. This effect repeats in lighter way on the secong press of the button, and there is no such issue if button is in constant use. But the problem appears again, if device has not been used for an hour or more.
And the proccess of pressing is sort of going in two stages: in the beginning goes the crunch (the feeling is like the button scratches something with some resistanse. There is also a little dangle of the button while unpressed), next the gap ends, button touches its membrane smoothly and silently. Sure, the issue is not really unbearable, but it does concern me as it is the only big problem i experienced on my device.
So, should i wait for issue to disappear itself, is it possible to make any steps to improve the situation on my own or is it better to visit service centre at once?
I forgot to mention this: device has been used gently and carefully, it has never fell down, it has never been used or carried in conditions that could possibly make damage to button, neither sand nor dirt could penetrate button's mechanism and so on.
Get a replacement to be honest I wouldn't want water getting in. Sounds like the button has loosened or something.
This has happened to people with game controllers with the Wii, ps3 Xbox etc

The problem has surprisingly disappeared today. There is still a little gap, but annoying sounds went away and the pressing of button feels just fine.
I guess i'll immediately visit service center if the issue will happen again, though.
Hi everyone,
I have an Xperia Z, and yesterday I've dunked it twice in a swimming pool for like no more than 5 sec. all the laps were closed but the water got in anyway, it stopped working for a while then after one day It dried out and I used Hair drier to dry it more now the phone works just fine but the power button doesn't seem to respond. instead, the volume up button can now start the phone and the volume down can shut it down, the speaker does not work anymore, when I plugg it to the charger the power indicator doesn't go on. And the touch screen is working but the brightness on it is too low barely can see anything, and yes I checked the brightness options and evrything is exactly how it's supposed to be.
So, did anyone had this problem and will the screen regain it's britghness in the next few days or I should maybe replace it.
Help me please.
Thank you
Hi.
Well, coming from a similar experience, I'll have to tell you that I had my display panel replaced. Though, mine wouldn't work at all. The phone would turn on and even give out notifications (with sound) but with no screen. And it was only after the replacement that I found out I don't have vibration anymore (someone said, however, that my vibration panel is dead due to the overuse of glow for closing the back cover).
Well the vibration on my phone works just fine but the speakers are dead though
