1) I really hope so, if not by Motorola then perhaps working out a way our selves (sadly looking less likely as time goes on)
2) the big thing we could do is load a custom kernel, so we could sort out the restart errors, also enable swap memory so we can have virtual RAM so ROMS like HTC Sence would run with far less lag. Plus many other kernel mods that other phones have
Thanka for the explanation, i have been reading here that maybe with Atrix bootloader we would be able somehow free our own bootloader (milestone) is it any true?

Well it is my hope that this is true ( i was the one that started the topic in the development forum) but until some of the developers get a look at the stuff we can not be sure, but even if it dosnt right away it might atleast help us free our own bootloader
OK thanks

Hi Developers and guys.
I have seen bootmanager android from which we can flash up to 5 custom roms on our sd card without touching our phone actual rom,
i have mailed the developers of bootmanager to include our 2X in there supported device, but got a reply from them " The lg phone doesnt give us access to the parts of the phone we need to edit to make the app work ",
i think they want to unlock the boot loader, but they not get any success in it,
so my question is to the great developers and programmers can we make a similar app for our lovely 2X, or can we unlock the boot loader for them....
Wrong section sir, you should post it to Q&A threads.

The o2x bootloader is already unlocked. LG devices are unloacked by default.

I know but if i posted it in Q&A threads no one will reply to it, my concern is to ask developers to make a similar app for our phone so we can also have dual boot phone, while having custom GB 2.3 we can test and try ICS with out flashing directly to our phone, as u know ics is still buggy and with out H/W acceleration.
Im sure that they are having issues in bootloader to search and boot the rom from sd card, i think rusty the maker of cwm may help us in this...
Maker of CWM? That's Koush not me. Nothing I can do I'm afraid.

Whilst it's a nice idea, I've never really understood the need for dual (or more) boot on a phone, a nandroid takes about 3minutes to restore?

Its not a thing as i also know that after playing with roms i can restore nandroid, but actually what im trying to say is that if we can dualboot our phone then we can have stable and daily use rom in our phone, and we flash any nighty or beta builds on our sd card with out disturbing our actual stable rom, just reboot your phone to go in to the stable daily use rom.

As already mentioned in this thread, you can message them back and tell them that there are no restrictions whatsoever. The bootloader is unlocked, hell you can even change partition sizes with NVFlash.

That's a) not true and b) no reason. dev section doesn't mean that everything development related goes in here but that this is for posts from developers who have created "it". Thus I asked a mod to move the thread to the right section.
By the way: With Rusty and me two RCs are regularly reading the Q&A section, and lots of other really capable people are as well.
Regarding the dual boot: Several people had tried it but it didn't work (yet).
Modding the bootloader and including a bootmenu is probably pretty tricky and time consuming.
I don't really see a reason for dual boot anyways, you cannt use the same data folder on combinations like Stock/CM9. The amount of time to make dualboot happen on the 2x is better spent on other things, in my opinion.
Hello,
Sorry for the general question, but I couldn't find the answer: Is an unlocked bootloader needed to have custom roms ?
I've seen a video of a guy using CM10 on his P880 and I'd like to know how he managed to install it on his device since it seems that the locked bootloader is an issue.
(Nb: I'm not asking that because I want that CM10 alpha on my phone. I get it is a simple proof of concept. But I'd like to know if technically every P880 phone can recieve custom ROMs such as the one shown in that video)
Thanks !

Sorry for probably stupid question but I just panning to buy S3 mini with simlock (on O2 UK) and I would to install CM10.x on it.
So if is any problem with install it? Do I need to unlock bootloader first like on sony/sony ericsson phones or root is enough?
I tried to find and answer by search but there are not full, confusing or probably outdated.
Regards
Thom

Samsung has the bootloader unlocked by default, so you don't need that like in xperia devices. I had two xperias before the samsung too. You can install cm roms with your sim locked or unlocked
Hey XDA !!
Maybe this question is thrown around a lot , but here it goes anyways . I have pre-ordered a Nexus6 (64GB,blue) and am expecting it to arrive by the end of this week. Is it advisable/necessary to root the device ? I mean most of the nexus owners here have already rooted their phones ( judging by the signatures ) . I currently own a Xperia Arc S (LT18i) which i had rooted due to performance issues (cm9) but i wasnt very happy with it considering I lost the bravia settings. So do I really need a rooted phone ? And also what is the difference between unlocked bootloader and rooted device.
These are pretty basic questions and if there is a thread for any of this please post a link here in the comments . Pretty new to all this.
Thanks

here a pretty basic answer.. if you NEED root, then yes, its advisable. if you dont need root, why would you root? the only thing that can be done with root is changing out system files and running apps that need root. it wont do anything else for you.
if you want to flash roms or other things, you dont need root either. but you would need to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery. you dont need root to flash roms or kernels, you only need root to change system files and run apps that need root.
what differences/advantages one gets after rooting , considering nexus already has stock android .

again, the difference is that with root you can change system files and run root oriented apps. root itself does not change anything except add in the superuser binaries.

You can always Google the terms or watch some videos on YouTube etc. it comes down to personal preference and your goals/intentions with your device.

Hi everyone.. Im back on Xda after a long time.. So i bought a 2013 Moto X Att XT1058 with an unlocked BL and i got so lucky! It already had an unlocked bootloader! So voila.. Now my question is that i am on Stock Jelly beans which is 4.2.2 and i haven't rooted yet so the thing is that i love the camera patch on 4.4.2 that motorola did! and i also want to flash a custom rom. So i was thinking to take the 4.4.2 OTA and then start the flashing game. Now i want 4.4.2 just for the camera patch and im not sure that if i flash a custom rom then the camera would look good . Now these are my questions please answer them in detail.
Question 1: Can i safely take the 4.4.2 OTA and still have an unlocked bootloader? my unlocked bootloader wont get in any kind of vulnerability? please clear this issue for me im really afraid of getting locked! like its a blessing on the att moto x that the bootloader is unlocked so i cant loose the BL unlock anyhow.
Question 2: If i install a custom rom on the Jb rom will i able to get the decent camera like in 4.4.2 from motorola? or will i have to take the Motorola ota to get the fancy camera? So is it necessary for me to take the OTA in order to get the fancy camera? or a custom rom will provide me the fancy camera in the 44.2? Notice: i matched the camera of a 4.2.2 moto x with a 4.4.2 moto x. And 4.4.2 killed the 4.2.2 Camera. So that's why i want the Camera like in 4.4.2. Please tell me what should i do.
I want these questions to be answered urgently so i can start my work i really need to do it fast.. Anyone's help will be really really appreciated!! Please help.

Im here to throw a wrench in your whole plan. I had the Moto X and 4.2.2/4.4.4 and everything in between. There is no huge difference in the camera, regardless of what you read. Trust me because I have used the camera on all those ROMs.
Now if you're bootloader is unlocked you can flash which ever ROMs, or software updates that you want. as long as you know how to you fastboot and such lol, stop worrying so much. and to ensure your Moto x was legitimately unlocked. You need to put your phone in FASTBOOT MODE CLICK HERE[/] and if your device days unlocked then whoever you bought it from is telling the truth and go flash in peace

So i think my phone is properly unlocked... now that you cleared things for me i guess i am just gonna flash a recovery and start flashing other roms rather than getting the OTA of 4.4.2. And I've done rooting and unlocking since i was 13 y/o now i am 17 ... So yeah i know how to adb, flash etc lol Thanks again man :highfive:
