Ok I need help from the XDA Family and Hardcore N1 users. I have a Dilemma and I need to make a decision fast. I have a nexus one and Have had since Feb 10 and I Love the phone. I just started a professional job and Kind of need a Blackberry. I have an upgrade available thru Tmobile and I was thinking of Selling my nexus one, I have a buyer. The deal is I get $300 cash and their BB 9700 (its 2months old and in great shape). I then can use my upgrade and get the Samsung Galaxy. So I will then Have a Blackberry 9700 and Samsung Vibrant AND $100 CASH left over, but no Nexus one anymore . What are your thoughts? im in love with the N1 and wondering will I miss much going to the Samsung Vibrant!!!
If you don't plan on messing with android code or writing apps, get galaxy s.
They are both awesome, but for end user, galaxy s is a bit better choice,IMO.

Haha! N1 wins huh! I feel attached to the N1. This is a hard choice. but 2 phones for 1
So you will use 2 phones? I think the nexus looks much more professional looking than the Samsung galaxy, and nexus has better build quality and materials since the Samsung is plastic. But it has better features. But I dunno, the nexus is so hackable, its still the ultimate geek phone.
Get the galaxy s.. so much better than nexus one in terms of specs

Yes, I plan to use the BB9700 monday thru thursday at work and Friday thru sunday use the Samsung S or nexus 1
I doubt the Galaxy S will ever be as customizable and mod-friendly as the N1. Just keep that in mind, since Samsung doesn't make their devices' kernel open-source.

I dont see too much different to be honest.. What specifically are you talking about except:
- 1280x720 (720p HD) video recording
- Super AMOLED vs AMOLED
- built in 16gb
Personally I can live without all of those to guarantee i get updates first. Also i dont trust samsung at all to continue to support this phone (see my other post)
EDIT Galaxy S is 9.9mm vs 11.5 for N1, and also has FM radio.
Still not a huge difference.

Will Tmobile version have the front facing camera? Ive read that it will and others that it will not. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

Thanks! Ive read so much and alot of different conflicting info
I really love the track ball over the optical pad. Your finger can feel each rotation of the trackball and it is just much more user friendly for me. Also, the Galaxy borrowed a lot from the iPhone OS, which I dont like the look of. The Nexus One is just so awesome looking.
Unless a phone comes out with something better than the snapdragon I will stick to the Nexus. (Hopefully not long til a 1.5 or 2.0 ghz phone)
N1 just got FroYo so it's like a new phone already, plus I underclock to 800mhz most of the day and get well over 24 hours battery life. being able to open an app a few milliseconds faster would have no affect on my day.

Galaxy has front facing camera, better rear camera (2.8f, but no flash), fm tuner (transmitter ? i dont know), bigger and much better SAMOLED display, much better GPU, better battery life.
pretty good phone. flash is important for me for flash light purpose only, Nexus car dock is cool too, such a HUGE 3rd party support for Nexus is a BIG plus, Samsungs lacks 2.2, but will get it later and that will probably be its last Android OS update.....
The fact that Nexus gets updated first and many apps and tweaks here get released for Nexus ONLY, makes Nexus THE best Android phone to date, although Galaxy is very attractive hardware-wise.......will see when its released....

Galaxy has twice as fast GPU
Better media player xvid/divx
id still go for the nexus. but ive played around with the galaxy s... boy is it fast and thats still on 2.1... its gonna get a lot faster once it gets 2.2
the screen trumps that of the nexus in brightness and in size. super amoled ftw!
I've played with one of the Samsung Galaxy variants and the difference between Super AMOLED and "plain" AMOLED (as found on the N1) is negligible... inside. Outside, in bright and direct sunlight, Super AMOLED is easier to read than AMOLED; although the LCD on a Palm Pre wins that contest hands down. I've read there is no front facing camera on the T-Mobile and AT&T variants and there is no LED camera flash. Had the phone included a FFC and LED flash it would have been a no brainer. Since they took those items out of the equation, the choice becomes far more difficult. The build quality has been discussed, as has the size of each phone. A few sticking points for me are as follows:
N1 has a multi-color trackball. It may not seem like a big deal, but the increased precision of using the trackball to select among many small links on a webpage is something I prefer to have. Additionally, the multi-color trackball allows me to know, at a glance, if I have an unread SMS, MMS, email or a missed call.
LED camera flash - seriously Samsung, this is 2010. Although I rarely take night shots with my N1, I frequently use the LED flash as a torch to light the way.
System updates - Odds are any Samsung phone will be months behind the N1 on software updates. If you like the latest and greatest software enhancements, Google's Nexus One is a solid bet.
That being said, the Hummingbird really flies; the menus are silky smooth and 3d gaming will be better. The multi-touch display of the Samsung is far superior to that of the janky Synaptics Clearpad 2000 found in the N1.
Although this decision will be difficult to make, it's nice to have this decision at all! Do remember there is always something better on the horizon. Since the Galaxy is, at best, a minor upgrade to the N1, you could always wait to see if this dual core (or dual processor) HTC Vision materializes. Wouldn't you rather hold on to your full discount upgrade until something a bit more revolutionary comes out?

My contract is up and was wondering if its a wise decision to switch from my utterly delightful Nexus One to more powerful Samsung Captivate
I like the flexibility and freedom to play around on my Nexus One, but the Super AMOLED and Faster GPU has been calling me to Samsung Captivate.
All the 2 cents are welcome.

it really depends on a few things:
can you survive without a trackball? if you do any remote desktop stuff, a trackball is almost essential. also some games work better with a trackball as opposed to your fat finger covering up most of the screen (including whatever you're trying to control).
do you currently not have a case on your n1? you'll def need one with the captivate (or any galaxy s phone), as they aren't built like the n1. they don't have a unibody design that resists overall damage to the phone. if you get a galaxy s device, i highly recommend getting a hard case for it.
can you live with not always having the latest and greatest developments on your device?being that the nexus is now the second google developer phone, you can almost guarantee that it'll have everything FIRST. any developing directly from google or the other XDA devs will most likely be implemented on the nexus before any other phone.
just a few things to consider. i'm sure someone will add some more...
you could also think of it this way: would you be willing to trade in your honda civic tuner (with nos, supercharger, and the works) for a mustang/camaro or equivalent?
I've actually seriously considered this (but for the Vibrant) and come to the conclusion that you will not be disappointed by either choice. One thing you could do is post a similar question in the Captivate forums but ask what people opinion of the captivate is from previous nexus one users.
On the note of the AMOLED screen and the gpu its a matter of importance? Do you play a lot of games? If so the gpu will definitely be a necessity. If you watch a lot of media the screen will be a must.
Do you mod/plan to mod your phone a lot? If so then the Nexus might still be the better choice.
Also the trackball is gone so there is no led notifications on the Galaxy S phones.

Well I havent had an opportunity/requirements to do any Remote Desktops so havent used trackball to its full potential.. but I love the trackball notifications.
I do have a hard case and a lovely one for my N1 [Seidio]. Yes I would ofcourse get a hard case for any phone that I buy.
Third point is really important. I am a CM source builder.. and I do that almost every 2 days from my laptop. I would hate to not be able to do that to the Captivate..

I had the UK version the Galaxy s and I have to say I was very disappointed. The lag problem is a massive issue after owning the Nexus and the Touchwiz is very cartoon like but that's a matter of opinion, and if you try and use Launcher Pro it starts to slow down even more. The gps another known issue does not work and the internet is slow. The screen is fab and so is the HD video but that's it. The build is poor and as for regular updates from Samsung ? well you know there history.
I always said that I would not have a Samsung for one reason or another but this looked great, but I'm bitterly disappointed and with Handsets like this coming out, it's going to put new owners of Android off.
So I have sent mine back and got a new Nexus as my daughter had my other and she prefers it to her IPhone 3GS........Good girl

Yes, I love playing games, I play HomeRunBattle 3D, and Asphalt5 mostly. HrB 3D is still manageable, but Asphalt 5 is a power hungry beast that brings the Nexus to its knees...
But alas.. I am an android developer and I love the mods and and trying out stuff..

If u love to flash and tweak, then the N1 will do the trick
Exactly. Its harder to tweak the galaxy series. I love my n1, but have been drooling over the captivate.
Gingerbread is just around the corner, and there will be a whole new wave of devices out that blow the SGS away. I see the Galaxy S as more of a side-grade, I'm afraid.
Don't you lose "unlimited" data if you upgrade your contract with ATT?
i think you can keep your unlimited data if you were grandfathered in.
anyway if you get the captivate you should flash stock android on it immediately. i played with a captivate 2 days ago, and it was actually not as smooth as the nexus running launcher pro. plus i hated the UI samsung put on there. the nexus is just so open and easy to tweak, i'd be a hard decision. plus have you seen the Desire HD yesterday? so many phoens are around the corner. i wont be tempted until something really blows away the nexus, like dual core CPU. the galaxy is still too close to matching the nexus specs, 1ghz, 512mb, etc.

So do I sell my IPhone Contract too..? I am not sure how selling of iPhone works.
I also looked at the Galaxy S series (although the Vibrant not the Captivate) but I prefer the trackball for being able to precisely edit text. I think that Gingerbread will make a world of difference and the N1will of course get it first... Samsung has a horrible history of updates and on a more personal level Touchwiz looks like a cartoon and I hate it. I LOVE stock (vanilla) android. Just my humble opinion.
One thing to highly consider is that the hummingbird processor is not as fast as ours in the n1 it may run at 1ghz but it doesn't process as fast, my wife has a vibrant and I've run several benchmarks on both devices and the n1 blows the vibrant away every single time.

The hummingbird 1ghz wrecks the snapdragon 1ghz (sadly) but the reason currently the n1 is winning is because of Froyo and the JIT. Just look at the quadrant scores pre-froyo
I took my Vibrant back for the fact that...
I missed the Track Ball.
I missed the sturdy, heavy build of the Nexus, the Vibrant is very cheap and plastic feeling.
I missed the Flash on the camera.
I just over all hope that a phone similar to the Nexus but with a larger screen is developed..

No you just sell the iPhone itself. You can remove the iPhone off your account anytime you want, even the day after you sign the new contract. All ATT cares about is that you pay your bill every month and fulfill your 2 years. So you can take the iPhone data plan off your account immediately.
It's an option to consider. Some people do it but if you aren't comfortable then don't worry about it.

Your joking right ? The only benchmark the n1 wins in is linpack . Cause of jit... quadrant we get 2200 with a hack without jit vs 1300 or so on n1? The sgs wins in almost every benchmark ..... the gpu totally smashes the n1... I've had both, n1 is a Tad faster feeling due to stock android ..... and jit ...
Gps works fine on my vibrant ...
N1 is awesome , but sgs wins hands down... especially soon with all 4 carriers having it... it'll have plenty mods.
Oh and it does not feel cheap ... not as sturdy as the n1 but n1 is heavier and will fall harder... also it comes with a extra cover for the back.. just awesome..
I love my n1, but my vibrant eats it alive.. especially in gpu .
I have both an and a captivate. N1 build quality is superb. N1 customization is awesome. Awesome dev support. Guaranteed firmeware support unlike samsung. You never know when samsung will stop upgrading. No guarantee they will get gingerbread neither. But n1 is getting outdated. But still my everyday phone.
However, captivate is a great device. Great samoled screen. Built quality is okay. Not as quality as n1. Very plasticee. At least captivate has the metal plate on the back to look cool. Vibrant all plastic. Not doggy the iphony lol. Sure this will get outdated soon but all devices will. It will matter whether u want the device now. You wait for the next device another one comes out. That's technology. There are mods on this device built by xda devs already. Already out putting crazy benchmark numbers. But not as smoothas the n1 on custom froyo. However cyanogen mod is in the works. They will be support by not comparable to n1. So far i like both device. Sure track ball and froyo is nice. But having the capability to play and watch games and movies with hd quality nice too. So i wouldn't completely cross out captivate or galaxy s. I just wish i had the euro version though. They seem to have more devs working on it. Captivate and vibrabrant dev is little slower then galaxy s. But can't beat a $100 for a fine piece of technology.
Oh btw, i upgraded both of my parents line with iphone 4 and sold those suckers for 600 bucks per pop. Save that money to buy something else when something better comes out. Perhaps nexus two. Lol. Or maybe the Htc desire hd/ace. I hope they release the quad band gsm version. Prob euros will be out late this year, hope i can't import a asian quad band or aussie quad band version.

I'm torn between buying one of the two super phones: Samsung Galaxy Note and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Google Nexus Prime.
I've done some research using Google about the phones.

It is my understanding that the Note is superior from what I have understood:
1. Bigger Screen of the Note makes it really awesome visually
2. Marginally better resolution for the Note as well
3. MUCH longer battery life on the Note although it said it is because of the screen size which begs me to ask: does that mean in effect it will be the same as the Nexus Prime's?
4. Note will also get upgraded to ICS
5. Note and NP have both got great screens - Super AMOLED
6. Galaxy Note has a better camera
7. Galaxy Note does or does not have a MICRO SD slot? I have read mixed reports on this. But, I am assuming both have that option of expandable memory. Am I correct?
Given all this I am concluding that the Note is a much better phone.
Am I right? Or am I missing something crucial? I don't "have" to buy a phone right now so is there another better phone with quad core coming out? I don't want to buy the phone and then 2 months later or in Q2 2012 have a new Quad core phone come out.
What do you guys think?

Yes, I forgot about that. I just presumed I'd lose the S Pen because it will fall out all the time.
I have a question: Is the battery life good? Right now I'm using the SGS1 and I need to charge my battery 2-3 times a day. I use it for calls, texts, whatsapp, gtalk and a bunch of other apps including OfficeSuite, etc. What do you think?

Nothing new around except the quad core acer tablet which mayb launched in near future...and we expected some quad core phones at ces 2012 but nthing like dat..so u can go for the galaxy note
If you take away ICS from the galaxy nexus i think it is a mediocre phone in comparison with the note.
The note has the better hardware and specs and when receiving ICS the difference will only get bigger!

Okay. This is important to note and I'm fine with 9 hours. LOL...When I use all this on my SGS1, the battery lasts 2-3 hours and then it's time to charge. Most annoying.

I had the GSM Galaxy Nexus prior to selling for the Note. Had the GNEX had Gingerbread on it people would be *****ing up a storm. ICS is neat but can't fix the average hardware of the GNEX. The Note is superior in every way.

Not true. Both screens are 800x1280 SAMOLED PenTile displays. The larger 5.3" screen on the Note actually makes for a lower overall PPI compared to the GNexus though. That said, the absence of hardware buttons on the GNexus means that you have less usable screen real estate most of the time. So, in that sense, yes, the GNote does have a higher resolution (as far as what you can actually use most of the time).

Don't have any hands-on experience with the GNexus, so I can't speak for that of course, but I CAN say that the GNote's battery performance is much better than I expected it to be. Suffice to say, it's way better than my old SGS2 if that helps any.

It would seem to be a very poor business decision on the part of Samsung if they didn't (eventually) release an official ICS update. In the mean time, the good people over on the CyanogenMod team have been working hard at providing us with an AOSP ROM in the form of CM9. It's in an early Alpha build stage for now, but knowing them, it'll only continue to get better! Patience is the key here.

Not only does it HAVE a micro SD slot, but apparently it can take bigger than 32GB cards as well (provided you format them to FAT32 first!)

Here's my advice:
The Note is a fantastic device, hands down. If you want it, get it. If you don't want it, don't get it. There will ALWAYS be something newer and better sometime down the road, be it one month from now, or six, or whenever. So you may as well get what you want, when you want it, and enjoy it while you have it.
Even though quad-core phones may be right around the corner, the 1.4ghz Exynos chip is no slouch by any means. In fact, I would go so far as to say that there simply is no better dual-core chip on the market today that beats it all around. Exynos really is best-in-class as it is.
But, in the end, it's your money, and your choice!
I was in the same exact dilemma and ended up with both the Note and Nexus. After one day of using the Nexus, I am selling it and keeping the Note.
Battery life is very subjective, I'd have to say the Note SEEMS better, but to be sure I have a spare battery handy. No use owning an awesome phone if you turn off its key features, huh?
I actually like the zero lag camera on the Nexus, but the produced shots are not as good as the shots I make on the Note. And if I missed it, I didn't see a "macro" focus option on the Nexus- this is important to me.
The Note doubles as a tablet for me. Ater using the Note for the past several weeks, I just find the Nexus' screen estate too small. If you compare the Nexus' screen area to the GS2, they end up the same because of the onscreen buttons of the Nexus that takes up space.
Don't get me wrong- the Nexus by itself is a superior phone, in my opinion. It seems ICS was truly made for this phone- no lags when I was using it, multi tasking on ICS is easier, and of course, it is easier to carry in your hand due to the smaller size.
In fact, if I could truly afford to keep both phones, I would- the Nexus is often viewed as a novelty phone because of its exclusivity with Google, and the plain vanilla experience of ICS. I hope that the ICS version for the Note won't be too bastardized, because the ICS I experienced on the Nexus is by far, the best OS I have ever used on a phone.
Still- I ended up with the Note. No regrets- and loving the device more each day! Hope this helps you. Let us know what you decide.

Yeah this is what I've understood as well. I think I will go for the Note. I want the bigger screen and everything you and Anakin have said are drawing me more and more to the Note.

Unfortunately it is only available in german (with spanish subtitle i think?!?!)
NO, I had both devices and just gave the nexus prime back and hold the note.
If you will wait for a better phone, you will never own one.
Go to a store where both are available and touch the devices and if you don't have a problem with the big size of the note, choose the note
It is better anyway, in my opinion the note is better on every point

Snapdragon 800 will be more likely used in tablets, so i also dont expect it to be in next Nexus device , it will most probably will be SD600 like in other top models this year.
Ill bet for 1080P , 5" screen (which is also useless in phone, but everyone got it so Google will also). 2GB of ram (who needs more in a phone?)
No sdcard slot, no removable battery - standard in google phones.
the most major change will be the OS, KLP will most probably be pushed to phones after I/O.

4k refers to video its called ultra hd.wow . also....it seems(could of course be wrong) like you dissing or dissmising nexuses?! First are you forgeting price??!! Way below norm.people are and will eventually flock once out of a contract fir a 249$ phone. Second nexus strives now(not the gnex albeit a good phone) to be the top o line device. My lgog which is the n4 brother destroyed the Samsung Galaxy s3 in the way many ways including speed. The lgog is the top scorer stock on quadrant. Yes i know its not everyday use im just making a point. I have contacts at lg(a cousin who is a dev) and all these specs are being seriously considered.(blueprint will be at fed communication soon) and the almost for sure one is the snapdragon 800. everything sounds great, except the 16mp camera. come on, who the hell needs more megapixels?? we need quality not quantity... time to follow htc's path with the ultrapixel technology. and one other wish: good battery!! it's the biggest problem of smartphones nowadays, especially nexus phones. i have nothing else to wish for. i don't need bigger screen or resolution, better CPU, nor more ram.

I'm debating on buying either of these two phones
I play a lot of hd games so is the s3 LTE's gpu good enough (compared to nexus 4)?
The only reason i don't want to buy a nexus 4 is because of the paltry storage.......
In terms of performance does the s3 LTE match the nexus 4?
The S3 LTE is approx. 40$ more than nexus 4 where i am going to buy it and will the S3 LTE get android 5? (or even further)?
I would appreciate a quick reply as i have to buy either by tomrrow....

Nexus 4. Get a big one and storage shouldn't be an issue, else you're using it wrong. I base this recommendation on your posting this on XDA, I assume you were at some point going to flash a non-standard ROM on your S3 LTE, yes? You will never get a completely stable AOSP-based ROM on an S3 LTE, this means ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, CyanogenMod. They will run, but they might drain the battery more than usual and certain features will probably never work on them due to lack of source code from Samsung. Same goes for the Exynos-based S4.
Get a Nexus 4, Sony Xperia Z or HTC One... Or buy my S3 LTE for a good price?

I had the same dilemma and my choice was i9305. Development is slow and painful but other than that it's great phone. 2GB of RAM and LTE on board makes it more future proof than N4. Expandable memory is a MUST so N4 looses again.
I've played few new HD games on it and there's no lag or anything, smooth and crisp graphics. Brightness half way up and you can play up to 4hrs non-stop!
Removable battery is a good thing if you want to play games on it.....
Price is going down as well, here in UK, you can get new one from eBay for less than £300 so it cost the same as N4.
It's really up to you but I'll suggest S3 LTE.
If I hadnt been given a 4G S3 as a replacement by insurance when my orig S3 broke I would have gotten a Nexus 4, Not a fan of samsung anymore they are far to closed to development on there hardware. My friends with the Nexus 4 dont mind the lack of LTE as its plenty fast enough and with so much Wifi I guess it depends on how important LTE is to you

I agree with the others, the S3 LTE is a good phone. But it is a terrible choice if you plan on running CyanogenMod.
Rekoil and co - how is it a 'terrible' choice.. Come on dram queens.. CM10.1 is working a treat on my I9305 don't kno wwhat your on about.. Stbale, feature rich (sure a few things not present) and development is nightly just like the rest of the game.. So I ask again.. Sure the kernal tweaks/modding is where we're lacking but with the right tools you can can very good battery life and performance is blistering..
All in all only negative is the scope of development presently - this isn't to say things won't change with respect to kernal.. In short nothing critical is missing and development is churning along nicely.. A few features i'm sure you'll miss if your looking but makes up for in performance/multi tasking imo .
Lack of ROM choices is another issue sure - but if your talking CM then not really as they're all pretty much on par..
So Kernal once again.. This is the big miss with the phone.. Anyway just eager for kernal releases if possible.. Otherwise i'll still be content until the next big thing comes my way and th ephone still rocks hard core

hm, imagine when all your friends are watching youtube hd video using lte network, getting a 40 to 100 mb per sec download speed without lag and wait time for start and you are still using around 10mb download speed. waiting the video to load up , hahaha
I think at that time your would regret buying a 3g phone at the beginning.
and the truth is at some point of time in near future ( actually it is happening now in Hong Kong), the mothly charge for a 3G plan is equal to a monthly charge of 4G plan. Would you think you are stupid when you are paying a 4G plan while using only 3G network simply because you are using a damn phone that can only support 3G network?
And for the wifi, come on, be realistic, in a coffee shop , 30 people sitting there sharing the network, how fast can you get from that wifi network?
Thanks for all the input guys......sat down and calculated how much storage i would need after all the games and music and excluding videos i will have used around 12.4 GB. Considering the nexus 4 has only 12.9 GB storage available to the user I will mostly be going for the s3 LTE.....
I'm sorry if I'm coming off as annoying but rekoil is cyanogen really that bad on s3? That would be a major put-off......because I can't stand touchwiz.....and right now on my mini almost every custom ROM like AOKP and CM has one problem or the other....
Oh and anguslaw 4G doesn't really matter to me we don't even have it yet here in india :-/

And what about the graphics glitches in keyboard and other places that will literally never be fixed? TV out will also never be fixed.
I'll be honest, I'm going off what I've seen on my friends non-LTE device (I9300, pretty much the same device apart from the modem), I personally cannot run AOSP-based on my device because if I run anything other than Perseus kernel my baseband doesn't find an IMEI, perhaps this has pronounced my dislike for Samsung (in my opinion, something like the modem configuration shouldn't be so easily breakable/writable). But everything I've said is true, all the good developers want nothing to do with the Exynos4 platform, codeworkx happened to have ported to I9300, making I9305 very easy to support, but he wont even accept a free I9305 at this point, because he is fed up with Samsung.
I will mention this again because I feel it is an important point. I very much like the hardware, it is simple in design and feature rich, this is a phone I would have stayed with for several years... if Samsung had released source code for the platform in a timely manner. At this point I am probably going to sell my I9305 soon and use my old Desire S until I can get ahold of an Xperia Z or something. All the sources for that device were released BEFORE the device even hit the market, now THAT is good support.
And... "development is churning along nicely"? This is literally all that is happening in terms of development for AOSP-based ports. If you know anything about programming you can tell that those commits are not development so much as fixing configuration mistakes and applying code loaned from other devices.
Although this is interesting... apparently the Galaxy S4 in my market will not be using the Exynos Octa, but rather a Snapdragon 600. This might be a pretty good contender in that case! At the moment I'm personally considering HTC One, Xperia Z and Galaxy S4 (but ONLY if it comes with Snapdragon 600).
I would go for a nexus 4. Brilliant processing and graphics rendering and no lack of roms or development for the next 3 years atleast. Also there is something called enjoying one game at a time. In my experience I have never liked playing more than one good game At a time on my phone. Nor would u b wasting your time removing the crap that Samsung puts on it's phones. Just my view, yours may be different

Thanks for the input guys. I'm now decided I'm going to buy nexus 4. I'm also thinking because of lack of additional storage. But i have nexus 7. I can play all the games that I put there. My friend let me hold his note 2 and I was asked to root it and install rooms or kernel. I searched in xda and read threads. I'm a little disappointed because of few custom roms. I'm really looking for aokp rom but it's not stable on note 2 I think this applies to all Samsung phones except for Google edition?
If you're into tweaking and want custom roms, high performance phone go for nexus 4 and leave that additional storage, removable battery, LTE, and touch wiz!
Seems you made your choice. They are both equally good phones, just in different areas. The nexus 4 is faster, nicer and has a superior screen. As for stock android ... well I hate it - it is faster, but I guess it's a matter of preference. One advice - when you pick up your n4 take the phone as you would talk and listen for any noise from the earpiece - they tend to hiss a lot and if it does, ask for another one. Also look for a rev 2.0 N4 - they made some nice small changes in the design, google it.
Even if you will get a Nexus 4 i still think that S3 LTE is the way to go for what you need it, yes Nexus 4 has better development and better GPU, but S3 LTE you get more space, you can get a spare battery, better screen for gaming (the home buttons are a bit of a problem at first at least when playing some games).
So by me i'd say strictly for gaming:
Nexus 4: 1) better GPU (not that better in real games only in benchmarks).
S3 LTE: 1) more space (you will need it the more the game will evolve)
2) spare battery a must for gamers on smartphones (or a big battery)
3) games seem better on Amoled screens (but that's just my opinion, and no problems whit the buttons).
4) better sound if you use headphones
But if you want to mod the phone go for Nexus 4 v2.0.:fingers-crossed:
I would like to know how is the radio/antena quality of Nexus 4. Galaxy Nexus has terrible reception compared to S3. GPS chip is a second class (still talking about GN.) too. I got a feeling that they build Nexus devices to be crap intentionally, so that all software which is able to run on it, flies on other high end devices . Regarding Note 2, I am not sure what the guy is talking about. There are plenty of ROMs and support for it. It is a great peace of hardware IMO, and my favorite one. It always comes up to, what for do you actually need/use a device. I want to be able to work with it. For me that means writing emails, doing some system administration (I use PaderSync for ssh for example.), sometimes working even with Excel sheets, browsing the web, and making pictures of documents and singing them (stopped doing this.) and for all this I need a bigger screen and resolution, always good reception and decent camera. I also like colors of amoled screens .
So you decide depending on what is important for you, and check the value for money ratio, of course.

But if you are not in a hurry, why not wait a little and consider other phones? Xperia Z has great support, sources are published, it's a nice device, HTC One and S4 will get Nexus like versions. So depending on how do you intend to acquire your device (contract or free/unlocked) maybe you will be able to get one of newer devices?

N4 has good reception, high class gps and amazingly sharp screen. It's fast as hell , boots in seconds and loads apps instantly. UI is very responsive (butter) Camera is also decent, but not better than sgs3 and the led is weaker.
Only drawbacks are speakerphone, in call quality, lack of space and the terrible vanilla os with the onscreen buttons and ugly and very uncomfortable UI (personal opinion). Oh and that battery... Well it's not intended for gaming , it's a developer phone and ! If I was new to android I'd get the nexus, but the OEM skins actually make for a better usability ( s planner, better phone ui)

You like TW ! I don't like S Planer because it forces you to use Samsung Calendar, and doesn't have 2 way sync with Google calendar, what I use for work too.
Speaking about launcher, Nova is my preference. Simple but powerful. Should be the Google stock one.
