[Q] honeycomb port for cdma hero - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Am I mistaken or is the sourse code out for honeycomb? I really would like the port to be functional. Anyone have any info to help with my latest obsetion? Leme know

i havnt heard anything different honycomb will never be fully functional on any phone because it wont do phone calls or texts and stuff like that, just wait a couple months for ice cream sandwich its pretty much the same as honycomb accept its optimized for phones instead of tablets. i know cyanogen mod will have it for the hero eventually witch will be cyanogen mod 8.

Thank u sir! I tryed the port out witch is sweet. But now that I think about it, it makes "sense", no pun intended.

motorola i1 rom??

i was wondering if anyone is going to try and port the ROM from the new Motorola i1 phone its running 1.5 and motoblur im not sure if motoblur would work with our vogues but i think it would be really cool if it did!!
the screen is a 320x240 if that helps at all
ok sorry if I got anyone's hopes up there is no motoblur.. I should have read more... u can close this if you'd like
forever ago (before we had the android forum) i think it was zenulator did a port of motoblur to the vogue so it could def work. but i used it for a little while and it was very laggy
i think the odds of a port are low at this very moment, esp with froyo just announced and all of the 2.1 builds out or in the works the fact that its a cupcake build just seems counter productive.
i know Incubus26jc is messing around with sense tattoo which is a 1.5 but as far as i know the build was already made he was just optimizing it before his vogue bricked

yeah incubus updated it to 1.6
Let it personal somebody tried to upgrade the system? or anyone tried to do a rom? Please understand that Linux and programming help us.

Chrome to phone?

I may be the only one interested in this, and I know its set for froyo 2.2 and not sure if its possible but is there no way to port this back one version? Maybe make it work for us?
I really like the idea and would be disappointed to have to wait the loooooooooong time before 2.2 is ported to G1.
no it uses the new pushy mc jig from froyo
probably could back port the whole framework, but seems like a wast ogf time to me

How do you know it will be such a long time?
Depending on the code changes between 2.1 and 2.2, it may be little more than trivial to get 2.2 running.
Also, I suggest that the first step required in either backporting or building a whole system would be to actually wait for the availability of the source code. Then we judge what would be a more efficient use of time -- building a whole system or backporting chunks of it.
2.2 will support the ION, so in turn, it will support the Dream. We just have to WAIT for it, people.
Mod edit: not dev related, moved to q&a
Just a thought: during the google io presentation of google TV they make a presentation of this feature with the google box in 2.1. So I don't know if the sdk or the source code is published but can't we use that to make it working with eclair roms?
PS: here at 1:30
Time is relative here, by the time a new update is released from modders porting it to another much older phone version a new version is almost ready to be released.
This is not a bad thing and Im not talking down about it ether. But was simply asking the question if it would take too much effort to get just that .apk to work for even 2.1 that is now very stable on the G1.
2.2 was just released, and it will probably take a while to get it stable, to the point where 2.0 or 2.1 is now for the G1 anyways.
I just really like the chrome to phone and think its a super idea. Maybe I'm a bit impatient too.

Sense UI for Milestone (anyone tried it yet?)

Theres a sense ui rom that i found, looks like that the developer abandoned it, iv tried to port it into my milestone...but im just a novice user...so dont know how to tune the rom...hope some one here can further develop it...
http://forums.zeusdroid.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25
ehh its zeusdroid.
the developer didnt abandon it, it just that it was a port from and HTC Desire, and porting a rom from GSM phone to CDMA is HARD!!
so his release is only in ALPHA not even beta yet.
i tried the past 2 versions and unless ur gonna partition ur sd card DONT bother!!!
its quite Pathetic how slow and unusable it is.
i just use froyo + HTC like clock widget, and thats enough for me

Begs the question are we talking about the GSM Milestone or the CDMA Droid since the OP asked about the Milestone....
And how does one port a ROM to a device with a locked bootloader in the first place?! (Kexec is yet to be up and running properly remember?) That could be a reason why the OP is having a hard time!!
I ask since there is also no Froyo on the Milestone until Motorola release it...
The issue actually has nothing to do with the bootloader but the radio libs. The Sense based builds make specials calls intended for an htc based ril. If the Ril doesn't know what to do with those calls there are all kinds of issues, as in the case of the droid/milestone.
Running a custom rom on the milestone is possible, in fact I had the latest CM compiled for the droid up and running on the milestone, but there were many many issues with it that I just couldn't work out.
actually is main flaw was that he used the Droid port in order to apply it to the phone witch litterally brick his modem ( sort of speak), he s worked around that and will be releasing this soon .
Tonight from what I gathered ..

Add modmymobile.com before that link.
Anyway, it doesn't work on my Milestone, HTC logo just goes on in a loop.
Yep, the modmymobile one seems the more promising but loop on the HTC logo for me too :/
It seems that only the creator succeeded in making work it, anyway looking at the videos he posted it seem pretty much fluid, even if it has some problems in landscape mode.
Hope he will fix it soon...
Landscape would not be a problem for me. But it's weird it works on its Milestone and not our :/

Won't be a problem for me either, but it's very strange that it works only on his device :/
He also posted that reflashing the .36 ROM and applying the customisation led to another different result (works but not as fast as the previous try) :S
wrong thread
mod merge all the sens ui thread maybe ?

[Q] Honecomb

with all the new honeycomb roms coming out for other phones (Nexus 1, Dinc, Evo) is there anyway to bring it to milestone and if is possible can someone do it?
/nothing here
I'm fairly certain that since 3.0 is a tablet OS, phones with ports of the new firmware are having severe problems (ex. can't make phone calls, landscape doesn't display properly, touch screen doesn't respond as expected, etc.)
Besides, the community is still working on getting 2.3.2 stable enough for daily use.

2.3 is fairly stable as of this moment, and I too would LOVE a honeycomb port to our beloved milestones
The honeycomb roms are pretty much useless at the moment, what works in them is... pretty much nothing. I would wait for 2.4 first, which will implement some of the important honeycomb features to smartphones, and then try porting honecomb apps. Maybe high-end smartphones will be able to run honeycomb when the ports will be better, but I don't think our Milestones with 256mb ram will even handle it.
THX for the answer but I have another question
is honeycomb hardware accelerated?
if it is shouldn't it run better on our milestone than on the Nexus 1 because of the GPU??
i still believe that the locked bootloader on Milestone will prevent anything that has a kernel that is TOO different from the Froyo-Kernel (i.e. with new features/procedures baked right into the kernel itself instead of Apps and Modules) will not be ported properly to our phones.
Gingerbread seems to be an exception since many people that cook ROMs said that it´s okay to use the latest leaked Kernel from 2.2 because it is not THAT much different to 2.3´s kernel.
I doubt that 2.4 or even 3.0 ´s kernels will still be similar enough to "fake" Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich on a Milestone just like they faked Gingerbread (which is surprisingly good though!)

[Q] OG droid/Telus Milestone + ICS = possible

I know this is probably a dumb question but... Hardware-wise will the OG droid/Telus Milestone be able to run Ice Cream Sandwich. If so will it ever actually see the light of day? I know with the release of the source code everybody and their uncle's cat's fleas are probably asking about their phones and ice cream sandwich but I'm simply curious.
Wondering that too
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
here milestone ics. but still use gingerbread framework
http://galnetmiui.co.uk/landing/ics-builds/
Is this just built off of the sdk release or the actual source?
First off, its been mentioned that ICS could run in any device running gingerbread, and still most of them wont get it. Why you may ask?
Judging the history on carriers rolling out android updates, it almost never goes over 1 update in a phones lifetime.
Therefore it's very doubtful, so much that if I were stil using my milestone I wouldn't even get on my expectations.
PS: I'm running a Inspire 4g now, and we are in the same situation, HTC is rolling out updates to some devices, but Inspire is not in it, even tho it's still a high end device.
sorry
I'm not really expecting an "official" since it's long dead in the eyes of carriers. I'm looking more if the devs will do any work on it.
As soon as there's a ICS ROM for Droid please link it someone. Even if it's early alpha.

Isn't too heavy in droid/milestone RAM ?
Sent from my Milestone using xda premium
I don't think it's too ram heavy. I read somewhere that any device that could run gingerbread can run ICS. There were ports of gingerbread to the milestone so.. shouldn't that mean ICS can run on it? I know MIUI has some ICS in it but.. It's not what I'm really looking for.
Ombra
how can you be so sure ?????
I'm not sure that's why I'm asking..
just waiting for further announcement...
The og Droid certainly has the ability to run android ice cream sandwich. That does not mean it will ever be able to run smoothly or well without a lot of tweaking.
rootfan is right. I've seen a video of the g1 running ice cream sandwich, not well, If that phone can run it, any phone should be able to..
The main problem is that Milestone has locked bootloader, and that leaves no chance to Milestone owners to run ICS on it (GOT-like trick launching Froyo on an Eclair kernel worked with GB on a Froyo kernel too, but ICS uses linux kernel v3.0 what makes this kind of porting EXTREMELY difficult).
Droid users have some chance though, since Droid bootloader is unlocked.
thks! now is clear to me
