Poll : Which Custom Rom you are running?

Not trying to be funny, but many people here change roms more than they changed their underwear. So the poll will be flawed.

Very true. I was on Doc's a couple days ago, then went to Darky's 9.5, and yesterday changed to Simply Galaxy Sweet Honey

1) Is this post development? I don't think so.
2) Is this post necessary? I don't think so.
3) As previously stated, is this poll accurate? I don't think so.
Why bother?

Yes you are right that people are always on the move.....I know this will be not 100% accurate but at least at this instance of time it can give us an idea (say 80% accuracy) about Market Trend (means popularity of rom) at this time (lets say Mar/Apr 2011) with current available ROMs. It may change in a month or two. But then in next quarter we may run another poll...

This thread should be in General.. that's why you'll not have a good answer here. (It's typically "noobish" to post questions or poll here, unless it's for developping something by yourself or with some dudes..)
And, on my opinion that's useless, all custom rom or more or less the same : A Sammy Rom deodexed and zipaligned, changements are tweaks... it's made me laugh when in themes OP specify it's for Doc's or Darkyy (of course it will works on both, only version/region is important).
For me no matter which rom you're using, it's Android.
If there is just one difference, it's between CM/MIUI AOSP based roms and Sammy'roms.
Same for kernels, it's just more or less functions and geeking/tweaking.

C'mon guys some more votes & we can get some representative picture here....that what our community is actually using....

iv been using Docs rom for about a week or two now xwjs8 with ADW Launcher barely lags when im not using it.Darky's rom's are gr8 but in the last 3 weeks they've got a little hard to flash and full of stuff i don't use and a little buggy a few times messed up my phone couldn't flash froyo had to revert to eclair kitchen roms are good i can flash them with my eyes closed im waiting for a Stable GB from Darky see what's not

[Q] any orphan tabs need a good home with a recognized developer?

I believe it would be extremely advantages to have more developers working the tab. I have the utmost respect for the handful that seem to do the work of double their numbers but someone like Rodderik would not only bring himself to the party but there would undoubtedly be others that follow him.
I am between employment right now otherwise there would be one in the post on its way to him/her but I would be open to a small contribution if this could get momentum. Please only leave productive comments.. if its not something you're interested in seeing happen let the thread die a sinking death!

Ill donate towards a tab, depending on the Dev, but with cm7 almost perfect, and afterbridge doing his thing, is it really needed for another dev, I'd rather one good rom than have 50 crap ones like most the other sections, also this is in the wrong section.

I agree. CM7 is now flashable, Overcome is just fantastic and Honeycomb is soon available to everyone. IMHO, I can't see how the development could benefit from another Tab. Unless Overcome gets ported for CDMA users..

I would definitely donate toward P1010 development. Not a whole tab of course, but something nonetheless.

What's so special about CM7? I know he does work for most phones? Or at least that rom is available for a number of phones. I'm guessing it's good because i've heard people speak so highly of it.
Also would it have any advantage over overcome's rom? And no disrespect to overcome because it's the first custom rom i've ever flashed and is the only reason I kept my tab. Love it.
Guessing i'm just asking if you or someone else could educate me on cm and specifically cm7.

I'm up with this thread, i cannot donate for a Tab but i'll send some beers to Rodd.
All devices get the best from the kernel, with a good one your tab will be always fine, it's not all about a Rom.
Have i t remember when we all got smartass/interactive governors fot our tab?
Now, you can say "i don't use smartass" or" my tab currently has not Ext4 because i don't need it", i say, why wasting your time to come here and say that we don't need another dev?

I'd sell my body to medical science and give the profit to the dev who would port it.
Well, either MIUI or HTC Sense. Those are the only things I miss from my Desire days.
CM7 is completely AOSP. Basically built from scratch for each major release (CM6 - CM7) then they add bacon Tablet tweeks, different lock screens, theme chooser, custom brightness ssettings and loads of other things.
I don't see it as an amazing rom, more like stock, with goodies. I've never understood why people praise it all day. Its great yeah, but I don't see what's amazing about it. But Cyanogen is the Android custom roms/development forefather. He was one of the first to start it and hasn't stopped.

Choose a theme, choose one of those kernels,choose a free launcher, use darkys or juwe ram script. Add a fex wallpapers and name this Galaxied Gingerleylo Rom V.1

With respect what you are describing is just someone customizing their phone, that is not a rom, and to even think of publishing it is wrong!
Insanity cm 014/glitch

Everyone can make what you said, but only a few can actually write/modify the code for a kernel or rom (sammy example). Also modifing an apk/xml is not the same as writing code for a kernel.

Silly boy....ROMs are made by friendly trolls, and coded using Android, love and less than 1% animal byproducts as permitted by law. We ALL know that.
Do you make a habit of posting threads that mistake aggressive provocations as legitimate questions?

Actually, although it may have been seen as provocative, I understand his concern. Afterall, when you flash a rom you're entrusting your phone to whoever cooked it, and it's impossible to know if there's something unpleasant in there.
Clearly, the most popular roms are being used by enough people that surely someone would notice if it was transmitting personal data, or passwords or something... There's nothing wrong with asking questions rather than accepting blindly.

I understand a desire to know, but then why not ask in the specific threads he is interested in? Perhaps it is partly born out of his poor English, but phrased and placed the way it was his post was more challange than query....which I am quite sure was how he meant it to be.
People who create mods and kernels are not paid employees or people he is paying for a service. They are volunteers and hobbyists who are sharing what they make. Noone has the right to demand anyone's "credentials' here, beyond the sources and details of their ROM. Some will be great, some will be pretty lousy...but a little caution and reading of threads will usually seperate the wheat from the chaff.
As for his demand to know "who" these people are...if someone said they were just a geek in their mom's basement or an off duty porn star coding android kernels on the side for fun, would he then be better informed about their ROM?

I think it is a mixture of everything. Some people take the stock code, add some stuff that is beneficial and publish it as their mod. Some other people may take this modded ROM, add some more stuff that they believe is beneficial and publish it as their mod. Atleast, thats what I believe. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
I'm not very sure about the "professional" ones, but CyanogenMOD and Darky's ROM are used by a lot of people. I'm a noob to this scene, so I dont know about others. But there are certainly a lot of mods floating around.
BTW, there should be "like" button on this forum. Some comments are very witty.

from a terminal:
1)connect your phone (usb debugging on)
2)adb remount
3)adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk /''directory where you want it''
4)adb pull /system/app/SystemUI.apk /''directory where you want it''
or you could just copy it using root explorer within your phone and past itin ur sdcard.

yes.provided you upload the framework-res and systemui apk from the rom you are using.

Why don't ypu post this to all theme section, for ex. Htc desire hd theme section, experia arc theme section, etc. So that you hundress thread started as your name.
And you can open a courses for how to make a themes. That will give u a good money as the lecture. LOL

Dude I am not interested in starting an immature rant with you. But since you started it , let me tell you something.
The reason i started this thread was to inform people what they could do or not and uncover wise people like you ; unlike you, opening 2 threads with a powerwidget one and a battery mod, both of which you did in the UOT and calling it your mod and for roms you didnt even use (how pathetic is that). Probably if i didnt comment on your thread at that time, by now, you would have had tens of threads with all different combinations of mods from the UOT ( of course for every rom you would find here) and that is probably why you are taking this rant here. lolz.
So please spare me of your useless comments cause you do know what you have done!

I want to give you a heads up ! I think that there are many people that do not know the existence of uot and how easy it is to change a lot of things, like batteryicon, statusbar etc . So i think it was a good idea to point people to uot .. People tend to look no further then the section of their own device.

You might be a know-it-all in symbian,apple or whatsoever but things here should be this way imho: when you take something somebody else has worked and developed, you cannot simply call it my mod and even if you do so, you should always give credit to the author!! (which you didnt and that was the whole point).

For those of you that have been around these parts for a while, you may remember the State of Development updates that good ol' Gsleon3 used to update us with. These came for us at a time when development for the Vivid seemed to be at a standstill, and for those of you that were here, you remember why. For those of you who don't, let me catch you up a little (and I apologize for the bad feelings that this may drum up, but I don't want anything to get out of control again). So grab a beer and a snack, this may be a long one
It was about April, and development for the Holiday was still in its infancy. There were a few good ROMs being released, and generally, it was a good place to be. I settled in, I found a home, but I kept a close eye on what else was happening across the interweb's Holiday community. I liked to keep my eye on one project specifically, synergy's CM10 project, because who wouldn't want JellyBean, right?
Now, a little more information for those of you who weren't around.. The original CM10 thread was opened at another site in July, where the project started. Syn put a lot of time and effort into it, but in the end, found it to be not worth his time to continue on a project he didn't see possible to ever be finished (mainly due to the ATT in-call mic issue and video issues), and again, who can blame him? He abandoned the project at the beginning of August. This is where mg picked the project up, and continued it with a few fixes himself, before somehow we caught the attention of h8rift. h8 has been awesome - cleaning up our trees, getting things in their proper home, and powering through anything that gets in his way It's so great to have him around.
Myself, up until October, had only ever had experience with things like making boot animations, icons, editing .xmls in .apks, and some slight .smali edits. Thanks to mg's excellent guide and a crapton of Googling, I learned out how to compile/build cm from source. Then I thought, "I wonder if I could do the same for other JB flavors?" So guess what? I tried, and it worked. Every single question I had along the way (with the exception of a few Ubuntu and git specific questions), were answered by a thread here at XDA. Cool, right?
I am very excited to see new ROMage out for this device...as I'm sure anyone who was here through the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012" would agree, I was pretty sure what we had was all we were ever going to see. Which again, would have been OK, cause there are some great ROMs out there, but I've never been the kind of dude to settle in on the same ROM for too long - that's why I came to XDA in the first place. Now as I'm sure everyone can see, through collaboration, this project is making HUGE progress! I cannot thank mg and h8 enough for keeping it going. This brings me to my last point...
I encourage everyone to participate, and offer suggestions, and share information - that is, after all, what a developer's forum should be about. The wealth of knowledge that's available at XDA is out of this world, but sometimes hiding deep within the threads, filled by off-topic chatter and users who have way to huge a sense of entitlement. Please always keep in mind that the things you're getting here are free. Hours upon hours upon hours of work go into these projects, just to be shared for very little asked in return. Wait, we ask for something in return? Yes - READ, SEARCH, and SEARCH AGAIN before posting. Like I said, there's already a wealth of knowledge here that's incomparable to other Android forums on the web, but yes, sometimes it can be trying to find that information. But it's not impossible. Also - keep an eye on the issues list. There are bugs. There will probably always be bugs. And as long as there are, they will continue to be squished to the best of our ability (though h8's ability is far beyond mine, so let's especially be nice to him )
In closing - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not let this place become what it was before. So far I feel like the atmosphere around here has been a lot better, but I know how easy it can be for it to slip back to where it was. So be respectful, don't ask for ETAs, and be thankful for what we have - cause what we now have is a TON more options that we had before.

I remember the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012"... it was ugly, didn't even want to visit the site half the time. But things are looking up and I'm glad I didn't return my vivid thirty days after the release date like so many did.

I got my vivid in april lol. when did the "wars" start? didnt really get into xda until like may or july

Right before that...I got my vivid in late may I think and that was when the blame game was going around lol...wasn't pretty

Well said homeslice. Although I haven't been as active in my participation I got the Vivid on day 1 and am really happy to see development where it is today. There were many points I thought the device was basically dead and time and time again it was revived with new life. Hopefully the few left can make sure not to repeat drama mistakes of the past.
And great job on going from a reader to a developer, very well done.

i think is not fair to close a wip thread to bring a sense 4 rom to the vivid all i wanted to do is help this device users to be on the latest software as i said in the post that was closed i wasn't going to share it to everybody i want it to share it to developers to bring this rom to all users but it got closed for "kanging" which i think is not true since venom team never released a vivid rom even thou the did for rezound which is pretty similar device but cdma and korean's make their work on the rom also to make the radio work which no body here in xda could do after many tries all i want is to help the community and specific this device owners which expect more from this device and we know is capable of running this system and much more please let the development continue we are stuck right know on sense only because someone doesn't want to share their work on other devices which is ok if you are the developer of something and you don't want to share but why stop someone who is trying to help on a device you haven't released a rom I bet that many of the vivid users would like to flash a sense 4.1 rom on their devices

Sorry but we don't approve of the use of our work by non-team members and do not condone the porting of any of our roms to other devices for various reasons. One of those reasons is these roms will never meet the same level of quality and support our users have become accustomed to as such, these roms will never be allowed on xda and will also be refused Venom Hub access.

Btw, we're not trying to be the bad guys here... We're simply trying to protect our property. Perhaps the best way for you to achieve your objective is to reach out to the kangers to find out how they managed to port it over to your device...

That's exactly what I want but there is a language barrier, instead of releasing could you try to make it legit here with your team? Please I know there are really good developers and they can find how to make it legit is all I ask I do not want to make an issue out of trying to help others with this device, this device is capable of running this Rom flawless just like the one x or rezound which in fact is is the same device but cdma could you help us or assign this port to one of your team members?

Let's just drop it. The villec2 should get its jellybean sense+ update soon, and maybe we can port it. Or maybe we can get the Koreans to share their secret. In the meantime, it appears to be elsewhere, so get it there if you must

So, the options are:
1. We remove all of our tweaks from the framework files of a kanged port of one of our roms so that you can use it as a base
2. You find a Korean translator to ask the one who got data working how he did it.

Let's not start more xda drama the vivid forum has already been thru this. Either find someone who speaks Korean to ask to translate or have them remove all of their tweaks like they ask. The vivid has come to far now to start drama over a sense 4 ROM

I'm not been sarcastic please help the vivid users to get a sense 4 Rom up and running if you can remove your framework from it that would be awesome to use it as a base I know you and your team are great developers I'm using your viper Rom on my wifes phone and I am really impressed with what you guys have done, I never wanted to start a war here or elsewhere all I want to do is give the sense 4 option to vivid owners like me!! I'm really sorry I have caused any issues.

You don't understand the work effort in removing our tweaks from the framework so you'll need to follow up with the Koreans.
And I honestly hope we don't see any more links to this kang roms, either here or on rootzwiki.
