I am really starting to feel left out of the cool kids club(GSM Tab Owners). Owning the sprint galaxy tab is like buying a mustang V6. I mean sure you have a mustang, but any ordinary ricer with a decent tune could blow you out of the water. Sure you could strap on a short air ram(rooting), or even sport tune(rooted apps), but your still no V8(Roms). Yeah I like cars a little, but I am really sad about my Galaxy tab from sprint. I had very high hopes, and they were all crushed......So Devs if you find it in your hearts........bring us some Sprint tab LOVE.
Well im running hc alpha 2.5 on my Sprint tab i think thats not to bad ,of course all thanks to spacemoose!

Your problem is that GSM technology is world wide, so you have people from all over the world working on roms.
CDMA is only in the US, so you have a much more limited set of potential developers.
Do you have a link to the rom? and does the market work?

It is in the "Android Development" section of the Samsung Galaxy Tab forums. And yes, the market works. While the GSM crowd is still getting Gingerbread ROMs/ports, we CDMA users have HC now. There are some glitches as the developer is still in the early stages, but overall, it runs, it's a great move in the right direction, and it's on CDMA first. (The dev was working on CDMA and GSM simultaneously, but the development on CDMA for whatever reason wasn't as difficult. I don't know if the GSM HC works as of now, but I know the dev. was close....)
And if you hate it that much, put it on ebay, sell it, and get a GSM.
Thanks for the info,
I don't hate the device as much as sprint.....and the way they locked up all the goodness behind profit grubbing.

You're welcome, although I don't understand the part about all the goodness being locked up. You just have to root your tab, just like all other Android devices. Once rooted, the device, and experience, are what you make it
I have someone that wants to trade me their sprint gtab 3g (I use sprint) for my wifi 16g ipad. I have a nook color rooted running cm7 overclocked at 1300 and an evo 4g running cm7. Do you guys think that's a fair trade? I'm not a big apple fan but my wife gave me the ipad for my birthday and use it for Netflix only. I need to pull the trigger quick before this Guy changes his mind. I just want to make sure I'm not making a dopey trade.... thanks guys!

I have a question. I rooted my tab when I first got it, how did you install alpha 2.5, I have sprint and when I try it with rom mananger ,sprint is not in the recovery just att, verizon and tmobile. I tried to flash the verizon recovery, and it was a no go. It reboots into the samaung recovery. If you have a sprint tab how did you do it?
I have nothing but mad love for my Sprint Tab. Bear in mind I'm not doing nearly as much with it as you're wanting to do though. I don't have it activated with Sprint and I'm not flashing ROMs or anything on it.
If you want to make some changes to your Sprint tab, check out the informational thread I created.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14917609#post14917609
I found a new love for my tab, I flashed it to 2.5 HC and it is neat again. It's buggy, but fun to toy with again........Yay Tab.
I've played with the HC 2.5 port, and it's just too slow for me. Stock, rooted with CWM (converted to ext4) seems to be the best thing out there for my uses thus far. Hoping we'll get a official gingerbread soon, or at least a functional CM7 port.. otherwise i love my tab! Sure there's not tons of roms to play with like the GSM tabs, but I'm happy with what i paid for it and my uses..
I have some questions that are confusing me...
1. What is it that makes ROMs more difficult to develop for the CDMA tab?
2. Exactly what, if any, is the latest update to the Verizon tab?
3. Is the Sprint Gingerbread the only Gingerbread ROM for the Verizon tab (apart from the leaked stock ROM full of bloat?
4. I'm very familiar with rooting and using ROMs on Android phones. Is there a root and ROM combo that is best for the Verizon tab?
5. If adw and launcherpro are for phones, is there some tablet equivalent I've yet to find?
6. The only thing even CLOSE to Honeycomb is the theme I saw someone use on Youtube right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPihz5x4enE&feature=related
Thanks for any guidance. Just wanna update this thing as much as I can.
You need to check threads by oldmacnut
He is going to be your best lead for cdma tabs... look into his "better than life" series roms, or check out his CM7 (still in alpha)
MIUI is on the horizon as well
There is a honeycomb beta by oldmacnut as well.

Cool, thanks. I'll check that out.
So, am I right in what I've been reading?
- The CM7 is the first priority to be made (understandably) but isn't yet
- The honeycomb is way down the line (as one guy can only do so much, obviously)
- The Sprint Gingerbread is just Sprint but still full of bloat
- The Verizon Gingerbread is also full of VZ bloat.
Is that right, Verizon users?
That's pretty much it. OMN's Better than Life roms for sprint and VZW strip most if not all of the bloat out, so can save some time.
Also, there is a more functional version of CM7 available from a different site (check my thread about running CM7 on Sprint tab in General section)

The honeycomb Rom is not beta, its alpha, Alpha 2.5 to be exact, it was not created by oldmacnut but was created by spacemoose, oldmacnut took the cdma alpha 2.5 and "remixed" it and is now calling it 2.5.1 with some minor improvements including sound.
Still too many broken things for everyday use.

That is the only reason I said something, I don't know how someone else feels about another person receiving credit for something that's not theirs, so I figured I would post to save any arguments that might have arised.

Check under galaxy tab dev threads... its still in top ten last I checked... there are a lot of people watching that thread and many of them could possibly answer your questions... you might have to wait a couple days to post if you are new to xda keep posting here til you've racked enough posts to post in dev thread... people in that thread should have better answers for you.

My asking questions is only cause I've never had a cdma device. And it would appear that there arent really any completed roms for the verizon tab 7.

Sorry about that man... once Jim (oldmacnut) runs out of walnut I think he'll be back lol last I talked to him he got some fresh walnut and was working on a kickass blanket chest... check his cm7 thread for a pic of his progress, he's a really good woodworker and if you look under galaxy tab accessories you'll see some beautiful wood docks for your tab (I just bought one for my Droid x and its awesome btw) I believe he still has one of each style left... Jim planes his own wood from logs, he doesn't use store bought wood... look at me rambling... anyway once he's back we'll see some awesome work, as he's a perfectionist when it comes to his roms.
Btw love your username aka roughest place in town lol Stevie was the man

First my apologies for posting in DEV but my question was ignored in the Q&A section and I really need to know the answer. I plan to pickup a 8.9 4G LTE today after work at the AT&T store and need to know if this current crop of custom roms is usable on this particular 8.9 model tablet? I was looking at it at the store and it said it was i99x or something and I don't see any of those numbers mentioned here in the forum for this device. Thanks in advance for your patience with the post here and for any info provided. Very cool device and much different than my Samsung InFuse phone running GB.

All I’ve seen is WiFi roms, no roms for 3G/LTE roms for GSM. It’s a SGH-I957 model. I’m still playing with the idea of getting one, since you get the Galaxy Skyrocket free too with a purchase. No root either yet for this thing …
I picked up a SR on launch day. 2 days ago I piked up this tab. They credited me the price of the SR towards the tab! sweet deal!.
That is why I decided to get the 8.9 Tab. I wanted a Skyrocket but I just got an Infuse a couple months back so I couldn't upgrade for the Skyrocket. So I figured I would get the Tab and Skyrocket and replace my Infuse with the SR. I have a client who is footing the bill and we are going to use one of the inactive corporate phones to do the swap with my phone or else it couldn't be done. I guess I will just get it anyway and wait till some development comes down the pike. It is a sweet form factor and I think I will enjoy it.
Infused with Android DNA
I would really love to be able to get root on my new 8.9 4g LTE Tablet. Is there any devs out there willing to take a look at it for me or am I left out in the cold?
This thing is ridiculously slow and laggy i sure hope someone develops for it or i am going to ditch it quick. My Skyrocket is so much more speedy than this tablet. I like it but it needs help bad.

I have experienced serious lagging scrolling screens changing apps etc. I also have had it completely lock up on me several times and had to hold the power button until it rebooted this thing is really a disappointment so far. Hopefully there will be some updates coming down the road soon.

I'm having the same issues. I just picked this up yesterday with the skyrocket deal. Coming from using a Motorola Xoom which has very little bloatware, I'm terribly disappointed with this tablet. I love the form factor, but it's slow as molasses. Hopefully someone with knowledge will take the time to find a solution and share it with those of us who have no idea what to do
Does it have lag/stuttering when scrolling homescreens in portrait?
It pretty much lags doing anything from opening apps to Widgets or sliding through the screens. I've also has it completely freeze several times and I've only had it over the weekend. The LTE version from AT&T has tons of bloatware.
Hello People,
Ive just recieved my Galaxy Note, I have come from a HTC One X. I have always had HTC phones but was let down in my experiance with the One X.
Ive been reading the Dev thread and a few TUTS and from what I understand, I need to, Downgrade my firmware to a rootable version, CWM and then im good to go! Also I need the ICS repack if Im going to dable with the ICS roms out there.
I havent used Odin since my Galaxy Tab left, I may be a little rusty, I had read about the creation of Mobile Odin but havent used it at all.
Just wondering if any of you kind people have any major DO's or DO NOTs, also a gent over on the One X forum that had a Note mentioned to me that he had a "Unbrick device" of some sort that he picked up for a couple of quid? Anyone know anything more?
TIA.
The device is called a jig and you can get one for a buck at dealextreme

Best DO #1 - make a backup first!
BEST DO #2 - read the forums!
BEST DO # 3 - always wait at least a day once a ROM is released on the forums before updating - and always read the responses from the last 24 hours. Amazing how many people report wonderful battery life ..... after using it for about 3 hours! May seem harsh, but there seem to be a lot of easily pleased people out there.
Don't get me wrong - I do appreciate all of the dev and chef work. But do read initial posts ... PLUS >>>I'm waiting for a N7700 based ICS, it seems that all current ones are based on SGII.
Good luck... and Respect Your Note
Sound advice my man.
After playing with it stock, im happy at the moment. Obviously its a completely different experiance from HTC and so its probably the novelty factor, but im liking the built in magazines/newspapers and the UI is livable with.
Im sure it wont be long until I root away. Especially since ive been informed of this jig (thanks man) no flash count and saviour from bricks! Happy days.
Thanks for taking the time to reply folks.

Hi gang.
First off an apology if some of this/ all of this has been heard before. I spent all morning trawling forums and the internet in an attempt to fix the problems, but none seem to be anything I can deal with without getting some guidance from people in the know beforehand.
I have had my Galaxy tab GT-P1010 for a couple of years now and been very happy. It was origionally running Froyo, which is what the models ship with. Foolishly I presumed any updates from Samsung would be a benefit to the tab. The device is now rather clunky. Scrolling is slow and sluggish, programs crash without warning and the latest trick is that dialogue boxes are non-responsive (i.e. 'your phone will shut down: ok, cancel' does nothing when I press either option. Repeatedly. In rage.) The only option I have now for shutting down is to let the battery bleed out or hold the power key to switch off. I've tried things like factory reset, but even after reset, I'm still left with stupid old gingerbread.
Looking around there seem to be some options, but after reading through several times, I still have no clue. I understand that part of the problem is samsungs 'bloatware', of which there is plenty.
I'm not really sure how to go about it- I understand there are programs out there- Odin, Nandroid etc, but I'm a little lost on the lingo, and a little reluctant to go poking around without any decent knowledge.
Can anyone help? Or is this really a 'send it back to smasung job? It looks like I'm faced with these options:
1) somehow backdate from Gingerbread to Froyo
2) Strip out the samsung OS and install another launcher (which sounds like a can of worms to me)
3) send it back to Samsung and never EVER touch another one of their stinking updates.
4) another straightforward option that I haven't considered
Please help! (bear in mind I'm a total code-tard)
Return to froyo if that is the state where you are most comfortable with.
Another option would be, buy a new tab with better specs.

Actually, the best solution is to UPgrade, not downgrade. There are many decent guides out there for modding your Galaxy Tab and flashing a custom ROM. Personally I've found that the stock Android ROMs (the device's OS, so to speak), particularly the older ones, are very slow in and of themselves. If you want, I can guide you through the process, PM me if you feel like it. Or you can PM a veteran like priyana, he has the biggest Thanks Meter I've seen so far on this end of the forums.
Modding your system, from personal experience gives you a major performance boost. You should first try this alternative before thinking about buying another device.
I scan the forum often, and thanks for the good words, geno,
But I don't know much beyond P1000 model.
But there are a few threads for P1010 that seems solid and has good followers.

You deserve them man. Anyway, how different is the P1010 from the P1000? My own model, the NTT DoCoMo SC-01C, is actually nothing more than a rebranded P1000. Surely the operations can't be all that different for another model of the Galaxy Tab line. Does the Overcome kernel and ROM, for example, flash on other models or is it exclusively for the P1000?
EDIT: To the op, I actually did some looking around and found that the P1010 is something of a black sheep in the Galaxy Tab line. There are few, if any, custom ROMs for it, but there were a few threads that describe tweaks for performance and other things. They are the following:
Galaxy Tab GT-P1010 (WiFi Only) NooB Guide (you've probably already seen this)(you should also check the Thread Consolidation post somewhere there)
This thread shows some promise for CyanogenMod on your device, but it seems to have dropped off.
This thread might help you with your lag problem, as it (supposedly) brings you to the latest Gingerbread build.
In summary, though, it looks like I spoke too soon. There may, in fact, not be a better alternative than simply getting a new device. The Nexus 7 is currently hailed as one of the best Android tablets out there, and I find that it's pretty reasonably priced at $199 or so.
The open nature of Android is one of the reasons I love it so much, but if you can't do much with your particular device then you're not getting the most out of what Android has to offer. If I were in your shoes I'd probably switch if I had the money for it.
Anyway, that's the best I can do. Good luck with your device, man. If you ever decide to try tweaking it and/or need to ask some questions about the applications involved and other terms and such, priyana should be able to help you.

Apparently the hardware is quite different. Your SC-01 is still quite close.
The heart of the ROM is the kernel and if the hardware is different, the kernel is bound to be different.
Not many top devs looking at P1010, so I think not much poking into the kernel been done.
