Is there an apk that will keep gtab active so that it doesn't go into sleep mode as long as it is plugged in. I am using "Screen On" and it helps but is not perfect.

Don't need APK ... Built in...
Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Stay Awake.
Does the screen timout set to "never" not keep it from sleeping? I have never tried it as I just use the tab once every now and then. Or are you asking for an "active app" that the screen is off but the tab is not "sleeping" ie the cpu is still running??
I searched but couldn't find it, just wondering if its possible.

I assume you are wanting to disable the capacitative buttons all together, to which you just got to settings-> advanced-> disable capacitative buttons. Hope that helps.

But, if you are trying to only turn off the lights and still using the capacitive buttons, hold the "menu"button for 3 seconds,
The lights go off and still work.

That's a neat trick. My G-Tab's captivity buttons has randomly light-up in the middle of the night since I installed the CM9 (and AOKP) ICS.

In settings > display > notification lights = left disable.
It's a setting to blink capacitive when you have email, SMS, or missed calls, or other notifications.
I don't like, so i left my disabled.

The correct way to turn the lights off for the capacitive buttons is this:
Settings -> Advanced (under device) -> Screen tab -> Backlight (under touchkeys) turn it off.
Note that here you can also change the timeout if you wish to keep them on but for a shorter period of time
I have been looking for an app that simply turns off the screen without locking the device. Can anyone provide a link? Thank you very much!

When you say lock do you mean the slider or the PIN/Pattern lock?
If it's PIN/Pattern, there is a setting under security that says "automatically lock" and I think it defaults to something like 5 seconds. You can change it to a much higher number (a few minutes up to 30 or more). Changing this will cause the PIN/Pattern to become active only after the screen has been off for the consecutive number of minutes that you specify.
If it's a slide lock, you could use something like Tasker to enable to lock a set time after the screen goes off. There are also apps that can do it, but I've never used any of them. There's probably plenty, but this is the first one that came up in a Google search. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.delayedlock2&hl=en

I used the pin lock and set it to lock after 10 minutes of screen off. When I use a screen off app to turn off screen, it turns off screen but also locks the phone immediately. But I want the app to only turn off the screen.

Is there a reason you don't just press the power button? Also, verify that the setting in security for "power button locks instantly" isn't checked. The app may be simulating the power button being pressed, which could lock instantly if that box is ticked.
Sounds to me like you just need to go to the security settings and turn screen lock to none?
That's how I run my phone. Active Display still runs and will come alive when you pick up the phone making you slide to "unlock", but pressing the power button will also dump you straight to your homescreen.
To get rid of that last "lock" when you disturb the phone you would have to uninstall Active Display.

Turning off screen is easier with app than the physical button. Yes I did not check the "power button locks instantly" but the screen off app still locks the phone right away.

I could do that but then there is no security at all.

Get phone in Safe Mode: Turn it off, turn it on again and when Samsung logo appears press vol up and vol down until the device finish booting (You will see a square below in the screen saying "Safe Mode") then try to swipe down and see if it's working. If works, it's a software problem: disable any Xposed Modules (if there are) and disable root. If still doens't work, perfom a Wipe Data.
Thanks

Go to > Settings/Display/Sleep (then choose how long you want the display to remain on before it times out and sleeps).
I'm having the same issue after the latest ota
None of the above solutions work
