2.3.3 vs. 2.3.4 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So witch is better, Gingerbread 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?
I think 2.3.4 is buggy when you restore your old apps

I guess 2.3.3 is better for now, as 2.3.4 still has many bugs but its up to you weather you want to run it or not.

And,
how can I get contacts back on my 2.3.4?

Did you sync your contacts with Google? Or did you export your contacts to the external sdcard?

Yup, they'r sync'd

Well, then it shouldn't be a big problem getting them back.

Yeah, but i never understood, how you can sync them back?

2.3.3 BD
2.3.4 No BD

As soon as you assign your gmail account to the phone it will import your synced contacts. If you exported to an sd card just import from sd card.

The best kernel and/or modem is the one that best meets your needs. Look at the specs of all of them and pick the one for you.

Updating to stock froyo.

My mom has a captivate running stock android 2.1.
I only enabled lagfix on her phone and nothing else.
After the official froyo came out I was thinking about updating it.
I have a few questions about it. Please answer as many as you can...
1. Will all apps disappear?
2. If yes for #1 do I need to get titanium backup?
3. Do I disable lagfix?
Please help.. thank you

Here's your answer, search the forums. You will find it.
1. All apps will dissapear! Be warned
2. You should use titanium backup thats a good idea but the kb1 must be rooted and sideloading enable to get them all back (use super one click) also put the titanium backup folder on external sd or on computer just in case
3. YES DISABLE THE LAGFIX VERY IMPORTANT

Thanks for the reply!. Would have caused a great trouble if I didn't question this...
Anyway just wondering, if I just had the captivate and did not know anything about root/flash/etc I would have just updated and gotten everything deleted right?
Did Samsung mention the fact that all my apps would have disappeared?. I just think its unfair to some people....
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
With normal android devices this would not have been an issue as the apps reinstall when you light into your Google account but that feature is missing from the Galaxy line

Yea, you should take all the important folders off your internal sd card like the titanium backup folder and put them spmewhere on you computer, that's what I did and once I updated I got all my files back, I still needed to root/enable sideloading to get my apps from TiBu back
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes, it would have gotten deleted even if you hadn't upgraded to the ji6 build of froyo

[Q] want to switch from CM7 nightly to XXJVS?

just wanted to know if there are any things i should watch out for when switching over to a Samsung rom from CM7?
currently i have a standard CM-style setup ie. CM7 nightly #104, CWM 3. Baseband version is JVK.
any particular rom you would like to recommend?
Just remember your Odining skills, backup your stuffs, wipe cache and data things and flash a stock rom with on 100% battery. After that flash whatever rom you like.
well i came from miui.... backed up some apps like whatsapp etc.. full odin jvs rom + repartition.. all is good.. doubt i'll go back to miui or cm7

As well as the actual Rom the Rom zip should contain a .pit file put this in the "pit" section of odin an tick reparation, add other files to their respective place and flash.
It might pay to take a look at some of the guides around so you know exactly what you are doing.

At the moment I'm on stock JVS with semaphore kernel and stock+ addon (in the theme section) for extended power menu and asop lockscreen. Seems stable and responsive, maybe not as quick or customizable as CM7 but for the moment it is doing me well.
Apologies for multiple replies.

CM7 Nightly Contacts Issue

I've tried importing contacts from SIM
I don't know what the **** happened, I just loaded CM7 Nightly #21.
The issue I'm having is that at first I had a SIM card full of 211 contacts. It stayed on Doomed Froyo, I swap over to try my first CM7 ROM and got to make an important phone call, what do ya know. There's no contacts.
Any solutions?

If contacts weren't imported, you might have never even had them on the sim card.

I've had the card for 3-years now.

Just to verifiy.
Do Steps 1 & 2 OR Step 3
1. Did you make a NANDROID backup of the Stock LG ROM?
If so, then make a NANDROID of your current ROM and restore to LG's ROM.
If not, then you'll need to make a NANDROID of your current ROM and use the method to get back to stock HERE
2. Check to make sure that the contacts are still on the SIM CARD.
If so, then there is a problem with Cyanogen and importing contacts. Backup your contacts to your GMAIL account and then sync with Cyanogen once restored.
If not, your data partition on the SIM CARD is corrupted.
OR
3. Use the SIM CARD in a different phone and see if contacts show up.
If so, then there is a problem with Cyanogen and importing contacts. Backup your contacts to your GMAIL account and then sync with Cyanogen once restored.
If not, your data partition on the SIM CARD is corrupted.

When I enter root explorer I went to my sd-ext directory I don't see anything on top. I used s2e to check and my sd-ext is "--" I'm using cm7 rc5.7 and it gives me many bugs like force shut down and sometimes I dont receive any SMS. Im lazy to restore all my contacts cause change my rom many times and I have multiple contacts. And now I have 3000 of them. Can you tell me one app to emote them cause I only could remove them one by one on my contacts application. It doesnt allow me to remove multiple contacts. All my contacts restore very slow. It took me 2 hours to restore all of them.
thanks for this i want to flash my galaxy mini i think i will also go to cm7 by mebetik

Friend, for me the cm 7 RC 5.7 working good, also sd-ext working. If u having multiple contact, search duplicate contact remover from market and remove the duplicate contact, after that sync ur contact to market account, so next time u change the ROM u no restore contact, just activate ur market account that's it.

I've used my google account to merge all duplicate account. How did you make you cm7 rc5.7 working good. The first time I used it it is okay. And slowly, I'm having problems. That day, I used back the rom, the problem came out the next day "force shut down" so now I'm using cm7 by mebitek. I dont quite like it because it has lesser feature than cm7 rc5.7. And how can I reduce the force close on cm7 by mebitek.
There's to many force close on the setting, market and many others.
