although i did find similar thread, it still doesn't fully answer my questions.
Currently my device is rooted Galaxy S (froyo 2.2, baselin JHJP6, Build JHJPA) with OCLF V2. The device was bought from a local operator (Orange, IL).
Since voodoo lag fix is believed to be better than OCLF, i've tried installing the Update.zip version, but got the 'verification failed' message, and had to abort.
later on, I discovered i used the latest 5.2 version, intended for the froyo 2.2.1.
* is that the reason my installation failed? if not, what voodoo version should i use?
* is there an updated froyo version that i can install, or will it delete all of my local settings?
newest version of froyo is 2.2.1 (JPY) that can be found in the development section, and for the lagfix, you have to have ClockworkMod (CWM) and update.zip wont work you have to select install zip from sd card. then select choose zip from sd card. then find lagfix and apply.
thanks for the rapid answer.
regarding 2.2.1 - i noticed it was ment for european versions (am i right?). are u sure i will be able to use it on middle east device?
in addition, how can i tell which of the various voodoo versions (in the voodoo archive) fitts my SGS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913 that has all the stock firmwares for all different countries.. you could check that to see if your running the latest version for your area.. if your on the latest you could always try a custom ROM. have a look through http://romkitchen.org
here you can cook up a ROM that suits your needs. you can chose every bit of the ROM yourself.. i dont know about JPY and using it out side Europe. i dont want to give wrong information out.. but read through them links and im sure your answers will be in there somewhere... post back how you get on.

Hi, did you find the right kernel for FROYO.JHJPA?
Thanks,
I think you need to apply it twice.
Hi all
I have tried the romkitchen some time ago and all worked fine. Now I tried it again in order to upgrade to Gingerbread and it failed. Cooked the ROM, downloaded it and renamed it to update.zip, booted in recovery mode and installed it.
First thing I notice is that the keyboard does not work. The camera also just shows some very weird dots.
And the worst part is that when I now start up in recovery mode I cannot see anything! Well I can see a lot of coloured dots but am unable to see the menu.
How should I proceed? Can anyone tell me the menu structure of the recovery screen? That way I can hopefully install another ROM (yes I know I will have to guess the location of the update.zip file in the list, but I am getting quite desperate now)
Uh, oh...
Now I cannot even boot the phone.
Any suggestions of how to proceed would be greatly appreciated...
:-(
i think your problem is you didnt upgraded to gingerbread stock
from the romkitchen web site:
WARNING! Before flashing a gingerbread ROM please make sure you have at least the JVH bootloaders. If you flash with ODIN, flashing a stock ROM (JVO, JV9, JV5) will get you the proper bootloaders.
you need to flash it with odin and then use the kitchen to flash a rom from the recovery...
Thanks - I will try to find Odin and flash from there...
q) Theis
phew... Now I have a stock ROM
Tried to install the ROM from romkitchen again but I get an error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Does anyone know how to avoid this?
I think I have found it but am not allowed to post the link here since I am a new user.
I'm stuck in a strange problem on my Galaxy S I9000

i downloaded the updatefile of CWM and renamed to update.zip and tried to update from the android system recovery 3e it gave me same red error
..............................
can some one help me here please i'm stuck and don't know what to do .
I had some kind of this message one time, try to go in download mode to write again the PIT file.
i didn't understand what you mean by write again the PIT file .... you meant open odin3 get another PIT file ? or re-flash the gingerbread and then root it all over again ? you think this would fix anything ? i'm still confused not sure what to do
If you want CM, just flash custom kernel as a PDA in Odin. You will get CWM.
Then go to CM thread and follow instrcutions.
one last question ........ can you suggest a kernel to me .. I'm on rooted 2.3.3 gingerbread JPJV6 ..
3e is your problem, it only allows Samsung-signed packages. I'm using ChainFire's CF-Root kernel with stock JVT (until I get TeamHacksung's ICS working properly!)

Well, if you're going to CM, it is same what kernel to use when flashing CM. Just pick one up, like Semaphore, download it, put it in Odin as a PDA, flash it. Then you have CWM. In CM you can't use what ever kernel you want
thanks i'll download semaphore kernel and see what's gonna happen i appreciate your help here really
Hello ppl !
Few days ago i became owner of my first android phone, samsung captivate. I am totally loving it, but at some point i realised it has much more potential then as it comes with stock, i made a update with kies from samsung website to gingerbread and i also was able to root my phone, so after researching i found out that this is a best forum for android stuff, spent few days over here reading a lot, but still don't understand how to install custom roms.
my firmware is 2.3.5 , baseband version I897UCKK4 kernel 2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-CL614489
I'am very keen to start with SimplyStock KK4 V1.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486344) but cant achieve anything.
as far as i understood, in a first place i need to install/flash clockwork recovery, i downloaded few versions but when i try to install it from recovery mode it says:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
i also tried to install few custom roms from recovery mode but same issues
i performed wipe data / factory reset and wipe cash as well, and as far as i understood i can wipe system only if i have clockwork recovery that i don't!
so this is my situation, any advise and help would be superb !
thank you guys
Welcome to the world of flashing. First, I would read some of the stickies on how to use Odin.
The easiest way to get CWM would be to flash a kernel with CWM already built in. The Corn Kernel is one such kernel. Flash it with Odin (the tar file goes in the PDA slot). You will then have CWM and can flash ROMS and other packages.
Once again, read first! It can help keep you from bricking your phone.
P.S. Back up your /efs folder (read threads about this one)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Tanks a lot !!!!
I made backup with Efs Pro as a tar file
then i downloaded CornKernel_UCKK4_v603 and flashed it with odin
then i putted SimplyStock KK4 V1.0 as a zip file into my phone and from new recovery mode installed it without any problem
thanks a lot again!!!
Hi all
I´ve been a sgs1 owner for quite some time and flashed lots of roms/kernels on it

Can anybody point me in some direction plz
since it android 2.36 im on i dont dare flash a 4.0.4 kernel what do i do

You have to toggle signature verification in CWM when you install the rom. You should also try the SGS2 forum.
Wrong
Wrong forum bro try in i9100.
