Hi all,
after installing Voodoo 5.0 for my Captivate, I had these issue:
- No sound. The sound is on when I plung the headphone (and the sound is from speaker, not headphone).
- screen always rotate to landscape.
- my computer sees my sdcard as a Cd driver.
i'm using:
baseband:I9000UGJK4
firmware version: 2.2.1
kernal version:2.6.32.9
build: cezar's basic rom xxjpy
I'm really new to android phone and this is my first try with playing with my phone . I'm really stuck, please help!
thanks

Try the Captivate section on XDA .
And deactivate Voodoo .
jje
thank JJEgan for your reply, i have try to disable voodoo but it my phone still has the same old symptoms: no sound, landscape screen,
Same issue here. Latest voodoo 5.2 screwed up my captivate. Disabling voodoo doesn't fox out either. Might have to do a full reformat...sigh
I have no call sound in or out unless I push speaker phone.when I try to play youtube videos out stutters like crazy
I know this an old thread but I just had this problem. Voodoo 5.x seems to have some odd issues like this on i896/7's. I had the same problem, switched over to Hardcores Speedmod, and its all fixed up. Hope this saves someone a heart attack.
Hi, my question is simple but the answer could be an entire book...
Since we can no longer trust Motorola and their crappy customer care (don't want to waste time to say those things again, all of you know what I'm talking about )
I had a look over the Internet to understand which ROM is suitable for an upgrade, but now I am confused :
there are a lot of ROMs out there, and I don't have time to test each one (more, I have only this phone, if I brick it, or block it due to an unusable ROM I have to fix it asap.).
Is there a fully working unofficial ROM with a better performance than the stock one? (with flash and app2sd?)
I understand that the locked bootloader isn't helping on this, but I'm interested in the full features of my smartphone: if camera doesn't work for example, for me it's a shame (either if everything else works flawless..).
I am root already if that can help...
Thank you in advance
Pol.

Bro, try shadowmod b3,
I have used froyomod, cm6, hobomod and shadowmod,
I can undoubtedly say that shawdowmod b3 is the best one,
Advantage:
OK battery life, never lag, stable
Disadvantages:
Aggressive autokill
(but would not affect music player, doesn't matter to me)
SMS notification light doesn't work
Sent from my A853 using XDA App
be experimental
its a question of what u personally prefer...
aesthetic appeal,lag,bugs gotta be considered..
i use the beta CM6.1.2 milestone port...
its a lill(very lil) laggy but everythin seems to work flawlessly
plus the cpu is overclocked to 900mhz. which is favourable
try diff roms and choose ... but be sure to make a backup of what u already have
I am using for about two weeks ShadowMod B3 and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
Pros :
- fast ;
- ~stable ;
- no battery problems (1d and ~15 hours - moderate use).
Cons :
- can't listen music and play in the same time (player is killed) ;
- some problems with the gallery and with the camera (specially when pressing the camera button) ;
- about ~3 restarts per week (surely the problem is the ROM and not my OC).
BTW , my SMS notification works (green light blinking). :-?
Comparing this to what I've already used (stock Eclair , CM 6.1.2), this is pretty cool, but it would be much nicer is the agressive autokill could be removed.
Thank you for your answers
I saw an outstanding performance of Quadrant on a shadowmodded milestone on Youtube, but I am worried by those bugs: as I can see there are different bugs on different milestones (how is it possible? aren't they sharing the same hardware? )
What do you mean with "Aggressive Autokill"? No multitasking?
while the cons mentioned by Abazel are not reassuring
The little lags on CM are the only issues? I read somewhere that you can no longer mount the SD card via USB and that there are some problems with camera too.
How about random reboots with this ROM?
Thank you again
Pol.
CM 6.1.2 was pretty stable for me but I was a bit laggy (not very much and was ~the single problem I found). ShadowMod b3 it's a bit weird - it works downloading and playing something at the same time but I can't listen to music and play simultaneously - the player is killed => the music starts singing => stops again (thing which could have been done easily under CM 6.1.2). These days I am encountering several problems (restarts or freeze at "Gallery"). I don't know what is the problem. With the SD card i don't have any issues at all... works fine for me. So, if you want improved stability, go for CyanogenMod 6.1.2. If you want a "bumpy ride" , try ShadowMod. ) Have a nice day!
Thank you,
I assume that these are the two best options.
I wonder if CM7 is already stable enough or if it's better to use CM6 since it's already stable.
BTW I believe that ****ijsood is right, I have to be experimental. Just need to find some spare time to waste on this...
Yep, the main problem of shadowmod b3 is the aggressive autokill,
Because of this feature, the phone never lag.
Some think that this autokill is disturbing coz they are used to listening to music and at the same time play game.
But as I never do that, this autokill wouldn't disturb me.....
As this phone has limited ram, there is always a tradeoff....
I am not saying that cm6 is not good. It has the best features and widgets.
But I just cannot stand the laggy feeling
If the Autokill would affect only "heavy" apps like games and music players, maybe it's not so bad.
I think I'll give Shadowmod a try, I can always change again if I find it too buggy.
Thank you for your answers
polengo, or others, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if there are any 'improved" ROMS out there now for the MM1.
I recently acquired a Milestone (3-4 months) running Eclair and it's been kind of quirky. Random freezes, random reboots, laggy, when bluetooth or headphone is disconnected the music player starts on its own. Battery life has been quite good stock, with light to moderate use.
Thanks.
Cm7 for me has been the best. I have had one random reboot in the past couple weeks. runs smooth, and the battery life is as good as any other rom ive tried.
Well, right now, I think the best rom around is latest CM7 or HONOmod. Although, you might want to give a try to CM6 or Luca's froyomod, if you need an extra piece of ram. The only drawback with froyo based roms right now is the lack of active development. You have to face that MM1 is an old piece of hardware right now!
Enviado desde mi Milestone usando Tapatalk
The CM9 Alpha runs quiet smooth.
I use it in my daily life.
Trying to install HO!NO! using clockworkmod and keep getting (error 7). I am not seeing this error with other roms. I tried toggling the signature verification and that only pushed the error back a few more seconds. Should I move the file out of openrecovery directory and place it in the nandroid directory and ask Nandroid to perform a backup using the HO!NO! zip file? In other words, should I use your zip as a backup and not as a rom? I look forward to checking your ROM out. The buzz is pretty exciting. Thanks.
**Edit**
My bad, wrong thread. please delete.
This would fall under the don't fix something thats not broke category.
Sound quality was great on my phone with 2.3.3 JVK, but after reading the great reviews on Voodoo sound, I was interested in seeing how much better it could get. After flashing the Voodoo sound driver (came with voodoo control plus 1.0.5) any sound through multiple types of headsets is distorted and almost sounds like the volume is automatically limited (Any high notes or low bass is either completely cut off, or the volume limits when the note hits). Sound quality after this flash is horrible to unusable. The odd thing is that even if I unload the voodoo driver, the sound is still awful. ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated!!
**EDIT** Just to add, I have tested the volume levels to make sure they were not to high in the application. The distortion/limiting happens even if set to a very low volume.
Phone Info:

Baseband Version:I9000UGKC1

Clockwork Recovery v3.0.0.5
CWM Manager v1.20
Superuser v2.3.1-ef
Softkey Backlight Fix
CRT-OFF Animation Mod
All was good before flashing voodoo sound.
How are you controlling your volume?
The best results, will be to max out the phone media volume completely.
Go into Voodoo Sound control and tick "map volume kies hack" and the volume will be controlled by that.

Firstly, when did you buy Voodoo Control Plus? Cos 1.0.5 is an old version the current version is version 2.0 Beta2-4.
Secondly, what did you flash? All you need for Voodoo Control Plus is root, it loads the module on reboot. Did you reboot after unloading the driver?
I'm running the current version on JVB with no problems and I've previously flashed the Voodoo soundmod kernels on three other phones (Froyo) and they all sounded amazing afterwards.

When you use Voodoo Control Plus you're not flashing anything! All it does is load a module, which is the reason it needs root btw. No need to reboot either. If that doesn't work for whatever reason, you can just unload the module again.
Conclusion: Either you made a mistake or you're a troll. Did you try to use the VCP module with a kernel that has (an older version of) Voodoo compiled in by any chance?
ok.....slow down guys. Noob-Yes, Troll? not likely. Heres the thing, I cannot remember what I used to get this on my phone. The one thing I can tell you is it came from somewheres on xda. Also, I have maxed out the phone volume, and enabled the Keys hack. No difference. Even if I un-load the module, the sound improves "slightly" but is still "volume limited" somehow. The only way I can explain it, is if the song has a loud part, the phone seems to automatically limit the volume, also all low range (bass) audio seems to be missing from any song regardless of weather the module is loaded or what audio settings are enabled.
You know the best way you guys could help me out? Tell me if it is safe to upgrade to the newest gingerbread. The reason I ask this is:
1.I have installed the "new" bootloaders from the JVK 2.3.3 (I believe stock) rom, but then I have the clockwork mod on top of that and the phone is rooted, also flashed the softkey fix and the crt off animation. ALSO, i had to flash the BELL KC1 modem to get the 850mhz band to work here in cape breton. I just need to know what needs to be done to make it safe to flash the newest stock firmware.
2.I just want to rid the phone of the voodoo mod and stay as far away from it as I can. I'm thinking flashing the newest firmware will help me do this.
3. I have searched multiple topics and I am just having a hard time getting a stright answer on what needs to be un-modded/removed/etc to make it safe to upgrade.
I really didn't mean to come off as a "troll".

I don't think anyone can help you without knowing what you did to your phone and what's on it right now. The only solution I can see would be a factory reset and a full (including bootloaders) stock 2.2.1 ROM flashed via Odin. Then you at least have a known-good baseline configuration and can go from there.

You don't have a clue about what you're doing, that's fine. Do a little reading and all will be well. But there's no need to blame Voodoo (or any other mod).
I think you might have took this whole thing the wrong way. This is why I don't ask many questions and only have input if I think it will help. Sorry to have affended anyone. I wasn't blaming voodoo at all, I was just saying that all was fine before I installed it. It IS most likely my mistake. Thanks to "those" that helped. I'm just going to re-flash 2.3.3 JVK stock, as I know it worked before. I only started the thread to see if anyone ran into the same thing or had any better ideas than reflashing.
Also to those that questioned, the voodoo mod was the only thing I did to my phone that I didn't fully research before implementing. I'll take this as a lesson.
Hi!
What is your transaction number, for Voodoo Control Plus?
I have no idea, it was all in one thing that I found on a forum which probaly wasn't the best thing to do. I reflashed the phone to froyo and then back to 2.3.3 and without any mod's the sound works great. I would say this had nothing to do with voodoo, and 100% me not researching how to install it.

Okay so please send me the link to what you found with a pirate version of Voodoo Control Plus.
I'm not sure of the link it was a while ago. Had I of known it was pirated I wouldn't have used it. I was looking for something to make the line out louder and came across a zip-file while doing some random googling. Had I of known where I got it I would have posted it in the first post. Listen, I'd be more than happy to pay for software, and have many times.
Cool, you'll find the latest version on Android market.
Ok, I see the one on Android market, Is there anything I have to do besides root the device again to have it work properly? It has been completely factory reset and reflashed to 2.3.3 JVK so there shouldn't be any reminants from whatever I installed last time.

Nope, that should do it. Welcome to the club!
Hey everyone
Just a simple question; Is the following setup safe for my galaxy s i9000? What I mean is, will the phone face bootloops and other problems soon?? I am currently using it and the performance is....well lets just say unrealistic. Phone boots up and is ready go in less than 15 seconds. The reason why I am paranoid is because im coming from the stock 2.2 Froyo and the performance gain really is unbelievable.
Setup is:
- Stock XXJVT odex
- Dark Core kernel 4.1 for JVT (It has some lagfix activated or something)
- Adernaline Shot v13
- Current governor (through setCPU): Ondemand -> As recommended by Adernaline Shot thread.
I wouldn't worry to much. The performance gain from Froyo Stock to JVT is really impressive!
I had a pretty similar setup for some time at it was running very well. Some random reboots may occur as with all firmwares (Stock and cutom) I have tried before.
Also, I overclocked it to 1,3Ghz with no loss of stability.
Have fun.
Nice and clean setup. You should not face any problem.
Hello!
Just reporting back on this setup....
The performance really is amazing. Phone runs very fast, apps load and close instantly, no heating issues, browsing is incredible, and not to mention this voodoo sound thing that turned the speakers into boom boxes, and massively improved in-call sound and volume. I haven't had any random bootups yet.
However, the only grudge I have is, and hopefully u guys can help me out, that the GPS signal quality is very lame with Google Maps. Also, Google Maps is VERY laggy, sometimes impossible to use because I can't even scroll around or zoom-in/out because it goes down to like 3 fps. It is just shocking that heavy 3D games can be played for an hour without any stuttering or slowing down, yet Google's own application Google Maps barely runs.
I would really appreciate it if you guys can help me out

Lol ya after doing some searching I found that this is a pretty common problem. However, its not the GPS locking that is bothering me; The Google Maps app itself is VERY laggy, im currently on version 6.0.0 and it is unusable for me. Scrolling around and zooming in/out is like 2 frames per second. Do you know why that would be?
Got a sim free o2x and immediately upgraded it to gingerbread using LG's tool.
I have noticed that the performance degrades over time especially noticable with scrolling web pages and youtube.
From a clean boot, i fire up youtube and can watch big bug bunny in 1080p full screen and very smooth. When I come back to it a few days lastr, the same video stutters and the audio also skips. I can create this effect a lot quicker by playing something with the built in video player. After having played a video on SD card, i go back to youtube and its a stutter show again.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this using standard gingerbread on the O2x? I'v tried killing various apps and uninstalling others but nothing very scientific and the only way I can get back to normal performance if with a reboot. Any help gratefully appreciated!
Sounds to me like the ram is busy. Just try an app that cleans up the ram.
Stock kernel has bug in memory management. Solution is to flash for example Spica's kernel, latest r11-c is very very good.
Evidently that supposes to root - instal clockwork mod recovery first.

I have a problem with Spica's kernel , I think that it doesnt support netfilter (iptables) thus I cant use Droidwall, any solution?
Thanks
Instal iptables from market?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mgranja.iptables
Edit: the app says that iptables is already installed in kernel, not in the latest version but present. That's perhaps the problem. Only thing is to ask Spica to update to last version.
Ohhhh, i will check it later! thanks!!!
Have tried some RAM clean up apps, unfortunately it makes no difference. The amount of RAM free seemed to make no difference, i had it running smoothly with 82mb free and stuttering with over 100mb ram. If something like this was happening on my linux box I would assume something is hogging the cpu but the apps i have tried seem to indicate nothing is consuming a lot of cpu resources.
I don't want to consider reflashing with another ROM if I can avoid it. Is there anything else I could try?
Kernel problem. Read above.

Reboot your dam phone then.... pcs also get laggy when they have been on for a long time, so reboot and or flash a decent kernel.
Use stock kernel\rom from 20o
I have the same problem. After about 36 hours, the phone becomes laggy. It lags when waking up the screen, it lags in menus, etc so i have to reboot it every 36 hours or so.
Speaking of kernels and roms, i've tried them all by now. From CM7 (which i could not get along with, functionality wise) to Topogigi, spica, Thanatos, carburano, gueste and erestor.
I am now on gueste 2.1 stable SR1 and the problem persists.
After about 16 hours wake-up and the lockscreen lags, after about 24 hours scrolling becomes choppy, after 36 hours dialer, contacts and other apps start slowly and lag big time.
This is the same behaviour in all roms and kernels tried (except CM7 which is a no go for me).
L.E.:
Of course, rebooting solves the problem for the next 20 hours or so, but its quite inconvenient.
