I have an AT&T Galaxy Tab that I flashed to Overcome ROM. Before I flashed, I made a Roto Backup of stock with the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850359
For the most part I like Overcome ROM. However, my original AT&T stock ROM came with Quick Office, which I'd like to use still. Is there a way for me to extract the APK from my Roto Backup?
I assume it'd be somewhere in factoryfs.rfs.
if you bought the apk , you can just download it again from the market ,
because what i know , that think free , is the stock office for our tab

No, the AT&T Galaxy Tab came with QuickOffice pre-installed, so I can't reinstall from Market.

Just go to the market and download it.
To extract .apk's from a .tar backup, you have to untar the files on your pc, then go to /system/app and copy it. Then put it in the same directory on yout tab. Tap to activate it.

Like buy it again? It's a pretty expensive app, and I'm already entitled to it since it came pre-installed.
I had guessed the apk would be in factoryfs.rfs. That's not a tar backup, it's a dd of a rfs file system.
You have the .tar from your roro back up. You can go in there and get it.
When you sign in to the market, it doesnt show you purchsed the app under "my apps"? Or there isn't a code to enter to unlock the free app?
Next time use appSaver app along with Titanium Backup. I'm always using both app when full restocking.
I have purchased Quick office and I got it back through AppSaver.

I have some non-market apps that i downloaded on my computer. Is there a certain place I am supposed to copy the .apk on the phone or am I supposed to use a program? I've heard some thing about AppsInstaller but I am still not 100% sure about how the process goes. I've got the OCLF and Titanium back-up working so I'm pretty sure my root is good as well.

Go into the Market and search for "Astro". Its a file manager. Once you've downloaded it open it up and go to whatever directory that you saved the apk's to. Select whichever apk you want to install, and the default application installer should come up. Also if you have the Vibrant you could use the stock file manager. Hope this answers your?.

You can use titanium backup, it puts the backed up programs in its sdcard folder.
Astro file manager can do it too..
so if I used Titanium Backup, I can backup to my sdcard on my phone, put that sdcard in my tablet and restore the app on my Gtab from the sdcard?
if that will work, I would be 1 happy gtab owner
A very easy way I've found it to use a combination of RootExplorer and Dropbox. Install Dropbox on both devices....heck and RootExplorer on both as well..
On the phone, use Root Explorer to browse to the .apk then long press it...select "Send" then select "Dropbox" and it uploads it to your Dropbox. On the Gtab, open up the dropbox and install the app.
Send is not in the list of options for my Root Explorer, I have the paid version of RE and just installed dropbox.
Hmm...trying to remember what I could have installed that added that option....I have it for about everything....
Could be blackmoon attachment saver free...

Use a file manager like Root explorer. It is a paid app but really great. There are some free ones as well like Astro but I personally don't like how the UI looks.
You can download them to your SD card and install with Astro (free). Browse your SD card with Astro, click on the file and it asks you to either browse or install.
Thanks I meant if you can download the file not install them. I assume that its just not possible and you have to use your computer then.

Does anyone have any input on this? When I browse the forums on my phone and click on an apk, I get an "Unknown - Cannot download. The content is not supported on the phone" message.
Are there any possibilities installing an apk using only the phone?

Download Astro File Manager. Open it up and then use the menu button and go to Preferences. At the bottom of the list you'll see "Enable Browser Downloads". Tick that box and now you can download files in your phone's browser.
Don't uninstall astro, or you won't be able to dl anymore.
I just used Dropbox. Files go in on my PC, and are available on my phone with the Dropbox app.
DB offers 2GB storage for free and, so far, it's worked from all my PC's and works well with my phone. I just open the .apk and install.
umm... same way you download on a computer...
google.com search > "" Some Dumb app pro v9.9 .apk download ""
download. install. duh
use google to rip off google...

Thanks. I had tried with explorer, which is the free version of root explorer, but it didn't work. I'll try astro.

There's an app on the market called "Download All Files ". It has allowed me to download several different files that I was not able to before. Downloaded files get put into a folder called "download" on the sd card. Use your file explorer, you can install .apks from there.
I know there will be someone saying that this is already posted but I have not seen as with multiple searches and extensive readings.
Can all the Apps from the SCH-I500 be posted somewhere and I mean the APK's or zipped versions on this site? With all the flashing there are a few from the original that are very good, then they are lost. Or an area to teach us how to abstract them from the ROM's we found them on or the originals. Or link's to where they can be found?
Like Desk Cradle etc. I have flashed many of the ROMs like the Froyo (Kaos), Super Clean, DJ05, DL09 the new Red recovery kernel etc. but always there was something good from the original that I can not find or wished I had back.
Also, is there a moderator on the site that can get the non Fascinate stuff out of here or move? Like Eris, Telus, I9000 we are confused enough without keeping it pure - Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500.
Thaks for any help or suggestions,

You can back your apps up with titanium back up or astro file manager
Skillz360 Reply
Skillz360 Thank you for your reply.
But Lucy please Esplain!
I have used Titanium and backed up some but as usual the wrong ones the VZW crap.
Do I just backup all that I like or would be interesed in? Then when I reload Titanium on the new ROM the apps will be there for reinstall? Also in Astro all I see are the APK's I downloaded from Market or not the OEM's. And I am rooted.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

use Titanium to backup what ever apps you want and you can just use it to restore the app or apps that you want on a new rom ect.. yes when you reinstall Titanium on a new rom you can just load your app or app that you want
If you go into Rom Manager, under sonofskywalker3's section, most of the stock apps can be reinstalled from there.
Thanks
I have seen under ROM Manager but they do not have many and does anyone know where they go when you use ROM Manager or are they only temporary?
norm883
Actually as well as I'm aware, by default Titanium Backup does not backup system apks, it only makes a backup of system app data. I use Root Explorer, go into the /system/app/ folder and manually select and copy over desired apks onto the sdcard.
Look for stock deodexed ROMs, you can unzip them and get your desired apks onto your sdcard, and use Root Explorer to copy them into your /system/app/ folder.
If you need any of the system APKs let me know. I have most of them available in deodexed form.... I believe from the DJ05 leak. But should work on whatever. Just let me know which ones you need and I can send you a link for them.

Okay so I got a droid3 that shut off when i used the slider so I was expecting a new droid3 and thought id take a chance bricking a phone i was gonna send back via fedex anyways.
I rooted the first phone and got titanium backup (free)
I couldn't freeze anything with the free version so I wanted to see if i could delete things I wasn't usually allowed to, BYE BYE BLOCKBUSTER
my new phone is here and I already used the old phone to find what apps i like n wahtnot
before I send the 1st phone back I am trying to put the blockbuster back.
I thought I could back it up with titaniumBU on the new phone and restore it on the 1st D3.... It doesn't seem to be working.
does anyone know how I can restore the blockbuster in the system, I can't even figure out what folder it's suppose to be in or I'd just copy and paste it (if that even works)
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...tware-backup-assistance-dont-wipe-device.html
The guy has a link to where to download the system/app folder, you can take that apk and follow the instructions he has. Should work
i got the back up so i can use the "petes motorola root" tool
it has an unroot option and i downloaded the system restore but it says i have to save it in a certain file on my computer. /restore/ subfolder
where do i have to save this restore folder and do i just name the subfolder "subfolder" im so confused.
Make a folder called restore in the folder your root tools is in, and copy the contents of the dump's system/app directory into that folder

Wow, I knew it was something simple. I can't believe that's not the first thing I tried
