Want icecream sarny now bad. - Off-topic

Waiting till q4 for icecream is hell.
It seems to solve so many problems with android.
Updates for 18 months on devices as long as hardware can handle it,( I'm sure this will help cm7)
My phone and tablet running the same os so they can have the same apps.
Should be a fresh new look with the updated holographic UI.
Gingerbread wasn't a big step for android, just some stability improvements and a dark UI to try and save battery ( I still use a froyo theme though)
So hoping icecream is all its cracked up to be.
Sorry pointless post just hate having to wait ( not even one leak yet :'( )

[Q] Honeycomb Performance Questions

For those brave souls using Honeycomb daily on their Nooks, what kind of tweaks are you doing to help with performance/compatibility?
Thanks in advance!
Bot
I'd also like to know if there are tweaks you can do to makc HC stable/perfered for the nook, anyone using it full time?
If you already have it installed on the eMMC with an overclocked kernel you have done all you can do.
Honeycomb development pretty much died the day Google said that their was going to be no source code release. We might never see a "stable" Honeycomb for the Nook Color.
With that said, many people has been working on making Froyo and CM7 better in Honeycomb's absence. I personally think the Tablet Tweaks CM7 version is more useable than even the Honeycomb on a Xoom I tried (at least our SD card slots work), and for people who are DYING for Honeycomb there is the NookieComb which is Froyo hacked to act like Honeycomb.
Take a look at the development forum for more information.
you can turn off all transition animations to get a bit of a speed boost...also opera mobile is much faster (but not as nice) as the HC browser
im running it off emmc and its actually very stable for web/reading...video isnt great yet and there is a bit of UI lag but IMO very usable...
I thought Google said they just delayed the 3.0 release. I read into that that 3.0 is a disaster right now and they are still trying to make it a clean product. I think Ipad is scaring them and they are moving into overdrive at Google trying to get ahead (meaning 3.0 came out before it was really ready).
I totally agree. Google doesn't want to let a half baked product out the door when you know the ipad 2 will be stellar.

The head developer of Android has said that AOSP won't be released until the phone features are merged, which means no code until Ice Cream.
So if the original ETA for Ice Cream was summer 2011, then I guess we see nothing until at least Christmas?
Meaning that Android tablets have been dealt a death blow for <b>another</b> year?
I am so glad for the independent developers working so hard at XDA.

i could be wrong but am pretty sure something will get 'leaked' before then....
I don't think Google minds -too- much that they are slowing down tablet development anyway. They've made it clear they want the "final solution" for tablets to be ChromeOS. Android for tablets is just a stop-gap measure.

Is there any advantage to the overclock kernel? I have the regular kernel running at 1100 with CPU Tuner (unless the overclock kernel comes in v2 by default)

why all of users want ics now?

hi.
LG will release the offical ics rom for our ob in 3 4 mounths. after that, there will be a lot of ics mods (not ports.)
now i want to know, why the users want ics now? i think it is about only enthusiasm.
i like miui. i think a lot of users like miui too. i think if we have one stable miui, it will be perfect. because miui dont plan to release any rom to our device.
miui is more customizable than other roms. more smooth and useful with its settings and apps. and seems good. if you dont like miui launcher, you can install other launchers too...
if we have stable miui on 2.3.4 or stg else, it can be ported on ics after lg's release.
what do you think about?
one project should start to make miui or support The Frankestain and flatzki i think.
i am only a user. not developer. and you can say, ok by or you can laugh this topic. but it is what i think. and want to know what you think.
and i hope this topic will help developers to know what users want...
actually i'm not very familiar with Miui and don't know exactly what it is but ICS is the new Android version so it's not strange that users want it..
Mostly because it should be better i think but also just because it's new..
One thing i do know, if LG says it will release ICS at the end of this year it would probably be the beginning of next year!
I think you should forget that we have official ICS in 4 months..
Do you really think we will get ics at all?
I'm a miui user, too, but I'm glad that there are these amazing ics ports, because some users just hate miui and need the choice

i also wan ICS badly. I even flash every ics ever released.
But we still dont have a stable cm7
N thr r many more features tht GB has but OB doesnt, so it will b much better if we have advanved GB rom with advanved features than an ICS port with minor errors.
Given the GB release reputation frm LG i wudnt expect LG ICS anytime soon. They even postponed 2x ICS release
M not saying ICS development should stop or anything but lets get a feature rich GB rom first

i want to have a stable miui, and i have used miui but i am interested the offical version because its stability. So i am looking forward to stable miui and ics! And the developers go on!!
Try cm9 and you will realise why everyone wants ics guys

maybe i'm going to try just to get a first look..
but i rather wait for a stable release.
Hm, it is a very interesting question.
My experience is that in 99.9% of the devices the best rom is the _latest release_ of the _original operating system version_ which the device was released with. In our case it is Android 2.2 V10G in Europe.
(I had a lot of Android and other devices, and this rule of thumb usually worked.)
Yes, this rule doesn't lead you to the most feature-rich device, but you will get the most stable one with the least anger and frustration. And the reason for this is that this devices are _designed to_ run that OS. I saw so many upgrades that are criminal quality, if somebody tried Motorola Milestone 2.3, he/she will understand what I speak of.
Only exceptions are HTC devices.
'cause gingerbread (v20x) was planned for July 2011 and was released 6 month later (end of December, January for most countries). I think we can expect that ICS will be delayed too - at least 6 months extra, maybe never... For Optimus 2X, which was released in the same time of OB but upmarket, the ICS upgrade was recently delayed again (https://www.facebook.com/LGMobileSingapore/posts/10150750124007707).
Shortly: no ICS by volonteer dev here = maybe no ICS ever on OB
EDIT: here not her... I'm sure there are other mistakes too :/
indeed.. if i should guess, i would say that official ICS will never come to the OB.
Why?
Simple, In Europe it was introduced in May 2011.. Guessing the release of ICS will be delayed, it will be released when the OB is about or almost 2 years old..
That doesn't look like it will be profitable to me..
that's a lot of useless energy, better put into new devices..
I think the answer is pretty simple.
Devs have tweaked the hell out of Gingerbread on our devices and i'm not sure there is much ground that would be worth making.
So i assume developers want a challenge and have turned to ICS, MIUI and CM9.
I hardly think developers are porting these to our device just because the users 'want' it. As a developer myself (not android but C# et al.) I dive into these challenges to take my skills to new heights. In order to apply my skills and eventually share that with people.
Side Note: Mods should close this thread coz it has become another ICS discussion thread where people just give their opinions rather than make any new ground.

My hope for a Vivid update

I know I really don't care about a newer version of android such as jelly bean but I do have hope for another update:
*Updates ics to version 4.04
*includes updated gpu drivers
*fixes bugs
*improves battery life
*adds voice dialer
I don't think thats too much to ask. originally i would of hoped for sense 4 but I don't care so much about that now, I like 3.6 enough so I don't care if it looks any different. just overall what I want is a stability and performance update.
I worry as it has become trendy for manufacturers to update to a new android version and leave a device with a 100 more bugs and then drop support. I'm dealing with this with my flyer tablet now. The honeycomb update broke it, gps is jacked, compatibility with market apps is half what it was on gingerbread and the system is overall slower and laggy. HTC said no more updates for it so I just reverted it to gingerbread. I like ics better overall than gingerbread on the Vivid but it has issues that need addressed. as for my tab I'd be tickled to death If it just got a stability and performance update!

CM9 Domination ROM build78 - Question

I just want to know if the issues related to this rom are the same we all know, those things such; no video record, no codecs, menus fading away and stuff.
The known issues are the same? no improve on that?
Thanks.
CM9 Domination ROM
Most likely, as all ICS roms developed have the same issues. Remember there is STILL no hardware acceleration available for the O2X, so you just got to wait for LG to officially update to ICS (snooze...snooze...), or a developer "converts" the drivers from the Mimosa X to our phones.
Despite that, everything else should work quite nicely!
Add hot reboot and occasional display freeze while scrolling, and you got a disastrous phone!!
Thanks NVIDIA for not releasing the sources!!
Better stay with cm7.2 and wait until lg releases the ics for p990.. until then cm9 for p990 is incomplete..
Well I'm using build 77 and am quite happy with it.
It is not as stable as cm7.2 - but I prefer the Android 4 UI over the stableness of Android 2.3. It does has it's hiccups, but apart from that is running good.
Everyone has to decide this for himself.

[Q] To be or not to be Android 4.0 for Xperia X8 Stock Kernel?

To be or not to be Android 4.0 for Xperia X8 Stock Kernel?
I know about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473602 , but it does not work nearly all!
Continuation of port ICS to Xperia X8 Stock Kernel?
I now have GingerCM, Stock Kernel, because I can not be unlocked bootloader, because release date 11W50.
Please, help me!
Sorry for my ugly English, I'm from Russia.
First of all we need 2.3 for stock kernel. Second X8 is Armv6 which is kinda silly for stock ICS... Anyways I support you!
Hit the THANKS button if my post was useful!

I suggest you to try FroyoBread v23b then put X8 Overclock module and download No-Frills CPU Control from Google Play Store and have fun!

There will never be a full working ics for stock kernel. I see where users that can't unlock there boot loader are coming from but it will never happen.
But come on its a low end 2010 hand set that was never ment to see any thing past 2.1. But thanks to the development here stock kernel users can have 2.3

Here's my opinion, and please don't go tl;dr -__-
ICS, as cool as it is, was kinda a flop, IMO. Many devices that I observed (excluding the Nexus line) which had an update GB to ICS are now horrid to use. Unless your device was built on ICS (take my One X) or has specs that were meant for ICS (take my Xperia S), then it'll be a horrible experience (my Xperia Ray). JB is by far, 100 times better, but that's not my point. My point is, unless your phone was meant for or can handle ICS, I'd rather not bother using it then.
Can anyone name me 1 decent feature from ICS that we're able to enjoy ? Face unlock ? I don't think so. Smoother performance than GB ? Yeeeaa I don't think so. Camera enhancements ? Nope, didn't think so...see, that's the problem when you're struggling to run the damn OS itself. You work so hard on making it run in the 1st place, you can't even enjoy it like Google intended.
Sure, there's a new UI and all, but so what ? AFAIK, AChep already took care of that with his themes and UI layouts. Cooler launcher ? Tried Holo Launcher yet ? Nope. Can't think of a single improvement ICS brings over GB or Froyo. I'm speaking from experience, believe me. It's no smooth sailing on Unlocked Bootloader as well.
I remember at one point it felt like my phone was being held together by duct tape. Swap, sd-ext partitions, RAM boosters, tweaks, superchargers. Just so I could run ICS. One day I had enough. I wanted to try ICS/CM9 so badly that it reached a point my phone was no longer usable. Lags, reboots, half working cam. It may be better now but I still stand my case.
So take it from me, enjoy Froyo and GB. ICS is no big deal. Never was. The only drawback I see is app compatibility and even then there are jokers making newer and better apps which work on GB too. That's all I'd like to say .

If you guys mention that why not that Xperia 2010 {X8} can't run JB/ICS on stock kernel
Just go get a point MSM7X27 is not a performance chipset but it's a chipset for low price boundary.
Without bootloader unlocked just stay on MiniCM7/GingerDx and others which performance rather impressive and less bug
Re figure the Xperia X8 specs & even minor overclock(Low Usability) + low ram
