How do I get radio s-off so I can install another radio. I'm not a complete idiot (as the topic says), but I'm having trouble understanding these "adb" commands, where to typ them in, and if I need some program on my computers.
So I would appreciate an idiots guide to s-off
You don't necessarily need radio S-OFF to flash a different radio. If you have HBOOT S-OFF you can flash a new radio in the bootloader.
Hello,
As said above you don't need radio soff. I think to be able to flash you need only boot soff.
If you have a stock rom you can gain soff using alpharevx (see dev section).
For windows the useful software is:
- htc sync (from HTC site) for the correct usb drivers;
- Android sdk (google)
- I don't know if eclipse is a req or not (i've installed)
- fastboot (google)
The "famigerate" adb is in the Android sdk.
For tutorial, there are a lot in the dev section.

Yeah, I did so too! Didn't know how I could've missed that part Sorry for the lame question ...lol!
everything you need - is ENG HBOOT

actually - no. AlphaRev HBOOT cannot flash radio.
I managed to update my radio in the AlphaRevX HBOOT screen by booting into it with the new radio (named as PG32IMG.zip) in the root folder.
It does seem, however, that you can't flash a radio like this on some newer phones (at least that's what the word on the forums is telling me), so maybe my way doesn't work for everyone. Guess ENG HBOOT might be the only way for some people after all, but my phone didn't need it.
So can someone actually confirm, can we flash Android Revolution with Alpharevx S OFF In his post it says the radio needs to be S OFF, which is different to Alpharevx S OFF, and reading other posts who only have Alpharevx S OFF when they have flashed AR ROM they are experiencing problems during calls, so they then have to install eng hboot which, in itself, seems to cause problems also. Have i lost u yet
Android Revolution post says:
"HTC Incredible S S-OFF
Radio S-OFF in order to flash new radio
ClockworkMod Recovery with EXT4 support from here"
jaysonline says:
"alpharevx s-off is sufficient...you don't have to do a special radio s-off..I'm already running Android Revolution HD 1.1.0
edit: even I didn't find anything specific about radio s-off"
Can someone please finalise...maybe someone has flashed AR using just Alpharevx S OFF and all is ok.
Cheers.
btw, watching Terminator 2....what a film...even after at least 100 watches
You don't need radio S-OFF to flash a ROM, so yes, you can flash ARHD with only the HBOOT S-OFF and root. The only thing you may not be able to flash is a radio, but that depends on the individual phone, as I mentioned in the post above.

Yes, exactly my experience. Two UK Inc S's, both s-off'd with XTC clip, one flashed radio no problem, the other newer one would not flash radio til ENG hboot installed.
I have flashed new radio with HBOOT S-OFF. I tried to install ENG hboot but had some problems. Just installed adb and followed instructions from Android Revolution HD 1.1.1 post. Maybe i'm lucky

Yeah, though the ROM should still be functional with a different radio at least.

Think I'm gonna stick with the stock ROM. Quite happy with it really, sooooo much better than my Samsung Omnia HD i had before in every way....it actually does what it says it can do without having to implement a **** load of workarounds! All I would be interested in if i flashed a new ROM is better battery performance, and they cant necessarily guarantee this. Think Ill try this out first for battery performance:

Hi, I cant get this radio to flash on my mates Inc S (it worked fine on mine). He has s-off (xtc clip method), latest recover, root etc, but when I flash using PG32IMG hboot method I get 'Incorrect model ID' or something like that. Also tried same thing using a goldcard. Also tried fastboot method as per post 1 ARHD1.1.0 thread. No success
Any ideas please ?

If this is a Candanian IncS, then the model id in the PG32IMG.Zip file needs to be changed.

Guys be careful when flashing radios, because i flashed 6.03.03 from gu1dry's thread and then tried to run a lower version ruu and broke the software on the phone. Now i need to use xtc clip to revive.
post by ieftm
"gu1dry, could you please adjust your RUU zips to include a lower mainversion?
preferably something really low like 1.00.0000.0.
Some of these zips have:
mainver: 2.21.1400.8
Which might spell trouble for people that attempt at flashing a RUU afterwards (as they're left with a broken RUU and a high mainversion).
Thanks"
Just make sure you ask all q's before playing with stuff like this it will avoid what i am facing. Just want to help
neo-X, pitty your on the other side of the world, you could have borrowed mine. Thanks for the warning though, I think I will re flash the new radio using the link from post 1 of ARHD to be safe.
Resolved my mates problem by flashing ENG hboot, then the new radio flashed ok. I don't understand why it was necessary to do this ENG hboot thing, since I did not have this problem with my own inc s. Must be something to do with latest stock hboot I guess. One other word of warning, after installing the ENG hboot his phone would not boot past the first HTC boot screen, but was able to go into custom recovery, wipe then flash ARHD rom, then booted up all OK.
Thanks gudge...luckily i got it working, just needed to flash the new higher version ruu that was just released

Hello,
I just received my Incredible S yesterday, and after some searching around, I've finally found the guide to root it on this forum.
I'm going to use the guide, but as a new rooter (only rooted an HTC Desire), I have a few questions regarding this specific phone.
My phone is currently s-on, and I'm going to follow the guide to get to s-off mode. However, does it matter that I'm only running 2.2.1? Am I still able to root?
Also, when does s-on get activated again? Only wen I go back to a retail ROM?
And, this is a total noob question...Am I able to use the Recovery ROM on one memory card (an 8GB), go through the root process and then switch to a 16GB card to install a custom ROM?
Thanks.
1. alpharevx works for both Gingerbread (2.3) and Froyo (2.2)
2. If you flash an official ROM (you can find them in a collection thread somewhere here on xda) you'll go back to S-ON.
3. After you've "installed" the custom recovery, it doesn't matter how many times you change SD-card; the custom recovery will still be there since you flash it over the original recovery.
Short answer; Yes, you can use a different SD-card to install a custom ROM from!
OK, just found this information in the ROM that I want to use...

Radio S-OFF in order to flash new radio

Me neither, that's why I'm starting to get confused about the "what you need" part of ARHD forum topic...
And since it works for you, I guess what he means with "Radio S-OFF" is that you should flash that radio he recommends to use with his ROM, or does he know something that no one else on this forum knows?

But i'm just so confused with all the several stock roms that HTC offers and i just want to figure out which unbranded stock rom (don't require root) should i go with that would receive updates as they get released and would play nice with the Bell Incredible S S710a?

Yeah that is the best course of action since you have the Revolutionary S-OFF HBOOT. It is going to prevent you from installing the official IncS Sense 3.0 RUU/ROM. I tried to build a rooted, stock ROM from the 3.08.405.3 RUU/ROM for you guys, but it will only boot if you have the official HBOOT 2.00.0000. It will not boot on the Revolutionary S-OFF HBOOT.

I got to thinking last night after posting this that HBOOT 1.09 was only for the Froyo RUUs anyway, so that isn't an option for downgrading HBOOT 1.16/2.0x since you can't flash a Froyo radio once you have the GB radio/RUU installed, so there is no reason to even think about trying to add gfree to the mix at this point.

So I can downgrade the firmware and Hbut or not? And by the way unlock butlouder already been made, received, and Root root.

You can downgrade to a lower GingerBread RUU (2.xx.xxx.x) which has HBOOT 1.13 so that you can run Revolutionary to gain S-OFF. You cannot downgrade to a Froyo RUU which has HBOOT 1.09 in order to run gfree and gain SuperCID.
If you attempt to flash a Froyo RUU (On the IncS, most of the Froyo RUUs were version 1.xx.xxx.x) you will radio brick your phone and end up with a paper weight.
Well, I will be enough of it. After all, the meaning of a S-off dropping Hboot. And close the bootloader.
Do not tell the most convenient way to do it, and if possible is easier. I have a dictionary translating what you write =)))

I think that was made with an old hboot in mind, before HTC started 2.0 bootloaders and the lib partition. You could try it, but I don't know any effects.
As the time it stands from my knowledge reading around here, once you go 2.0+ you can't go back down unless you go to htc-dev and unlock thus putting your phone's imei in their database

PERSONALLY I ALREADY KNOW THE REASON IT WONT BOOT WITH OLD HBOOT.
it goes like this.
If you want to support older Hboots it's really quite easy:
- on the installer script of your rom do not try to mount the /system/lib partition as it does not exist
- on the ramdisk, init.saga.rc, just take out the line that is mounting the partition, or at the very least, take out the "wait for mount" statement, that blocks until the partition is mounted, and that's what's causing the boot to fail.

I'm here with 6.13.1002 as well, and I would prefer to stay with that Hboot...
BTW kaijura I came from hboot 2.0 without passing by htc-dev, I just run nonverbose's tool...
Originally that tool used hellion bug or something similar but now uses tacoroot and work for sure with hboot 2.0 ( personally tested) not sure about 2.02.
The step are simple: just extrat the tool and answer the question...
If I recall corretly: downgrade, I don't have htc-dev unlock phone, I want to create a goldcard and that's it!
The script does all, u have only to reboot the phone and tell him when is rebooted!
Interesting, thanks for the share. I will read into it on the tacoroot.
Here is a link for stock HTC Sense 3.6 ICS 4.0.4 from the Chinese RUU. It's not based on Niks' or Lost prophet's rom. I just made it so it's working for 6.13.1002 hboot for anyone who wants to test it to try it out instead of waiting.
I don't intend to develop this rom or add features to it. It's just a test rom to see if it works and if you want to see what sense 3.6 is like without having to upgrade hboot.
STOCK CHINESE RUU WORKING FOR HBOOT 6.13.1002:
some bugs I've noticed:
- No play store, this may be due to related with CN region as they don't have google services (gmail, youtube, etc). Need to figure if it's APK related or something else.
- SU isn't loaded in yet. I'll have to look later what's wrong.
- Wifi MIGHT or MIGHT NOT work. It seems to be a regional issue and I need SU to install wifixmanager to test it.
- don't know what else, I didn't use it very long.
Rest of everything should be working. Mobile data, camera/camcorder, gmail, youtube, browser. Like I said, it's just a test rom so you know what sense 3.6 is like when the official one is ready.

kaijura, first yes its correct that with the newish tacoroot exploit we no longer need to unlock via htcdev (thanks for pointing this out guys).
Secondly I have successfully swapped from revolutionary hboot to blackrose 2.02 and then back to revolutionary, no PC connection required. Here's the steps I took (and that others may at their own risk )
Make sure you have a nandroid or rom you wish to install. I know I shouldn't have to tell most people this so late in the game but anythings possible.
Download blackrose and extract hboot_blackrose.img to your sdcard root. Its not necessary to use the root folder but fits in this context.
Open terminal, or download and open if you dont have, and type:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/hboot_blackrose.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
then reboot into recovery.
4ext touch recommended that I do a full system format, but you could probably just get away with formatting cache.
At this stage you should probably verify that you have actually installed the blackrose, by entering hboot.
To revert to revolutionary, its pretty much the same procedure. Simply put revhboot.img in your sdcard root folder and type:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/revhboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Reboot into recovery and format the cache, and verify again if necessary.
Edit: using the dd command does carry some risk. You should check the md5sums before flashing. This can be done in terminal
Code:
md5sum /sdcard/hboot_blackrose.img
Code:
md5sum /sdcard/revhboot.img
or in your favourite file explorer.
hboot_blackrose.img
MD5: 9ccb6c894bba1a32a551a6569fc6fccd
revhboot.img

I am still on the revolutionary Hboot, and I do not intend to change unless there is either a performance improvement, or if I have to.
I am on ice cold sandwich
I dont really want to be messing with things I dont usually mess with, just as a precaution
Haven't you guys got around the problem anyway?

I am on 6.13.1002 HBOOT as well - revolutionary. Not intending to change anytime soon either. Thanks for the support kaijura.
i'm using hboot 6.13.1002 here,
not intend to switch to higher hboot if possible ...
I am pretty happy staying on the Revolutionary H-boot if possible. Will see what happens in regard to development, why root further if I don't need to
I am also on revolutionary hboot 6.13.1002 here. i would also like the option of leaving my current bootloader alone.
good luck & thanks for the support kaijura
