T849 vs P1000 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung SGH-T849 and am wondering what the real difference between that and the P1000 is, specifically I am trying to find out which Roms I can flash on this, since I am a little bit confused with all these different versions of Galaxy Tabs.

Holy double post batman.

wrong thread.

[Q] Cyanogen rom not coming to Galaxy S I9000?

Thats the question.
I have been reading their forum and tweets... and all i see is Vibrant here, Vibrant there... nothing for i9000?
vibrant is i9000
unless you are refering to the USA version of vibrant which is SGH-T959

I'm sure for the purposes of the forums people refer to the us model as the vibrant the european model as the i9000 and the canadian vibrant model as i9000m... I read that somewhere in one of the sticky's. Therefore assume he would be talking about the european i9000
The Vibrant isn't exactly the same as the international I9000 (and is, in fact, an SGH T959). However, they are both Galaxy S series phones, and are both GSM. They have far more similarities than differences.
Once CyanogenMod is available for the Vibrant, I have little doubt that it will be ported to the international i9000 and the Captivate, at least.
i mean the european GT-I9000
Cyanogen mod is coming, you can see them talking about it being ported on their forums now, and iirc the dev said that they are working on it.
If you know what you are doing you can even make your own version of it now (mind you its not fully functional and buggy)

There was recently a tweet from one of the main devs working on Cyanogen for Galaxy S saying that his work was only for the Vibrant model... So perhaps international users have to wait longer for a port once the vibrant version is released
Yes, the international/European i9000 is what I was talking about. You won't be able to directly install the Vibrant CM6 ROM, but I don't think it will take much to port it. These phones are very similar indeed.

I imagine that this would be because that particular dev only has a Vibrant to work on, and so that is where he can best do his work for the time being. Since the cyanogen guys have to work across a lot of different phones and don't turn much of a profit, I wouldn't say it is unreasonable to see an individual dev only pick up one SGS varient.
However, the vibrant is DEEPLY similar to the euro SGS, and I can't see why a Vibrant ROM would be so dissimilar to a euro ROM as to require anything more than testing and tweaking.
Basically, don't worry. I bet ya a pound to a penny that they will put out a full set of SGS ROMs rather than doing it piecemeal.

Please do a search in the Galaxy S thread before you put on a new thread.
Depends if you want to have a nice paper weight or not.

[Q] Samsung galaxy i9010

Hi guys..
Wonder if anyone could help. I'm fairly new to the rooting of phones
And the cynagenmod. I've been reading a lot on the Samsung galaxy s i9000 phones.
I have the the Samsung galaxy i9010 or the giorgio Armani model in the uk.
Its looks exactly like the captivate just rebranded. Does anyone know if its possible
To root or even install the cynagenmod? Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Yes.
Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your new phone.
Yes it is possible to root and yes it is possible to install cyanogenmod. The i9010 is more or less the same as the captivate, there are few differences. As I understand it, the hardware is the same, but the software is different, however I admit the possibility that I'm wrong. Here are some links that should help you out:

The ROM he is uploading is based on the i9010, so the methodology should work. That is to say: As he is a member of the build team he should know what he's doing.

Cyanogenmod's wiki and how-to, there is a video on youtube, but it's out of date, they have a new method now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Super one click thread, several have confirmed that it works to root i9010, I recommend downloading this instead of the one he points out in the video...come to think of it, it might be the same one. Take no chances though, use this one, it will work.
There are more threads out there about it though, so try using the search tool at the top of the page.
On a personal level, I've found that CM7 is a bit glitchy, if I may make a suggestion, try Mosaic III, it's a GB rom as well, but it works better with the SGS hardware. Good luck and happy hunting. Also, have you watched the XDA introduction video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA

T849 vs P1000...Please help!

What is the real difference between a Samsung SGH-T849 and a Samsung GT-P1000???
What type of roms can i flash on this device? Is generally every P1000 Rom flashable on this phone or what do i have to look out for?

You have the US GSM model while the P1000 is the Euro GSM Model that includes voice calling. Same hardware.
You can use the P1000 version. Specifically the Overcome version if you are looking for speed, better battery life and more features. Or pretty much anything labeled GSM in the Tab Dev section.

Too bad... could you at least return to the original ROM (assuming you were using original stock ROM)?
If you could give us more details...
shame
i just purchased the t-499 myself and its a shame that such a new/great phone has so little support, ive looked all over google and only gotten mixed answers and dead end threads. icant even figure out if galaxy mini roms are cross compatible to the dart or not. its actually a good phone with a decent screen if u change the lcd_density to 100 the resolution is pretty decent.
if someone can help me a little it would be greatly appreciated, atleast point me in the right direction.
Not sure where else to post this, but can someone tell me if I can use a bootanimation.zip on the Samsung Dart? I've looked at a lot of threads on how to do this, used ROM toolbox to move files around, but haven't had any luck. I'd just like to know for sure so I don't drive myself crazy and waste more time!

On he stock Dart rom, no.
Samsung apparently uses some weird proprietary bootanimation format.
I am running the CM7 port in my sig from the MadTeam Forums and it of course uses bootanimation.zip's and I even have enabled boot sounds on it.
It's a good rom, couple of really minor bugs like button lights don't work and slow to wake on incoming calls, but overall quite stable.
Bummer....I guess I'll have to wait til I can upgrade to a new phone
they have make new rom for dart

How do you change the lcd_density to 100 in the stock ROM?
