[Q] SGS (GT-i9000) as external soundcard ? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a pair of sennheiser hd558 yesterday (for home use on my laptop) and i am surprised how they sound hooked up on my SGS (with voodoo to get everything out of the wolfson chip), the only problem is that my laptop has a onboard sound chip (Realtek ALC883) wich gives a crappy output.
As i am a student on a kind of tight budget i was having some "brainfarts" about making the SGS think it is a soundcard while connected to the laptop. That way i can play everything on the laptop as usuall and the output goes thru the SGS.
Is this possible ? If it is, is there someone willing to help me do it ? Because there is very little information available about this (only about wireless and i dont want to send a laggy stream to my phone with the possibility of losing quality).
I have already looked at VLC/UPnP options but the only thing available seems to be a bunch of players i can install on my SGS wich stream (thus thru wifi wich i DONT want) the files off my laptop.
Basically, i want my SGS to act as a fully operational usb soundcard for my laptop when i tell it to do so.
PS: I use foobar2000 as music player, setting this up with ASIO4ALL would solve the problem of having a transmitter, the problem still left is the phone accepting it.

Wow now aren't you expecting too much out of your SGS!
Anyways I don't even know if something like this is even possible... but it would be quite interesting if it could, but I highly doubt it!

Importing audio into the Kaiser

Hey all, I have been reading like crazy for months, have donated to the site and to some of the developers as well as pledging to the driver cause and doing my best to contact everyone from HTC to people in the press who have covered the issues as well as contacting people/organizations who haven't covered the issues yet.
I have searched and read everything I can about getting audio IN to the Kaiser and haven't seen much activity concerning the subject, so I thought it would be cool to create a thread that deals with this issue. I am going to use this thread to document my experiments. I believe this is the best way I can give back to the community aside from the financial support I show developers etc.
I am a pro musician & producer and want to use Meteor to record song ideas while I am traveling. I am looking to get line level signals into my HTC TYtN II and using the Meteor multi track recorder
http://www.4pockets.com/product_info.php?p=82
It would be very cool to use Meteor to write and record song ideas when I travel. It doesn't have to be super high quality audio, I just want to have a recording of my song ideas so I don't forget them. I have a little electronics device I plug my guitar in that makes it sound like a guitar amplifier. Think of it as a type of audio player for guitars that has an output like an ipod or whatever. I have a little drum machine and a synth keyboard and things like that (they all use line level signals). I do not want to use a microphone I want to use a line level signal from other devices.
Using this diagram
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_EMUConnector
.... I am looking to get an electronics technician to make me a custom plug that will let me get audio into the TyTN II. I suspect that it will be a mic level signal as opposed to a line level signal but I am not sure about this. I have a great deal of experience with music gear, and very little experience with hand held devices in terms of understanding the hardware.
I suspect that whatever audio does get into the Kaiser will be treated as a mic signal, even if a direct signal is used (unless sendign data via USB is possible). I am going to try and get the tech to make a couple of custom cables using HTC's proprietary ExtUSB connector, but if I cant get one made for ExtUSB, I will get cables made that will work using one or more of the the inputs on a 3 in 1 adapter as seen here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/3-in-1-USB-3-5m...ryZ15040QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I am assuming audio applications will be able to "see" the audio once it is sent via the connection.
Some things I am looking into:
1. What format the TyTN II will use for audio that is sent in to it through a custom cable?
2. What kind of quality will the audio will be? WHat kind of control will we have over that audio?
3. Will it be stereo capable or just mono? I am fairly certain that only mono audio is possible via the mic input part of the ExtUSB input.
4. I wonder if audio can be imported in real time via USB connection or if audio can only be imported via the pins that enable a mic for phone use?
Like I said, I will share what I find out and if anyone happens to have ideas or knowledge please reply in this thread.
There are other uses too, aside from using multi track audio applications. If I can get this to work (I am pretty sure I can) , how would you use it?If you have ideas, perhaps you can sHare ways we could take advantage of importing audio into the Kaiser.
Bump this, i have been thinking about this also, if it had 2 seperate headphone and mic plugs, the adaptors for say a guitar or bass would be basic, since the mic is mono and so are the insturments. If i had the tools for micro-miniature soldering, i'd be able to do it easily. but i dont, so if any1 wants to make a couple, i would purchase it in a heartbeat.
You can use meteor or any recorder on the handset, if you're in a quiet room the internal mic does record sound pretty good. if there was a way to do multi tracks at the same time(multiple leads) now that would be something.
Yep, big bump from me. MeTeor is fantastic, having a little recording studio anywhere is great. However, getting a line-in would just open up everything!

Sound from PC to Dream?

Is there a way to send the sound coming from one's soundcard over wifi to a Dream phone?
Note: NOT to stream music or radio or video, there are lots of apps for that.

What are you trying to do then.
well, i dont know about transferring the sound coming out of the soundcard, but you can setup a samba share and then use Estrongs File Explorer to connect to it and you can play your music from your pc on your phone, but honestly you didnt give alot of in-depth info about what youre trying to do, so i dont know if thats what you want. I mean if you want to hear it in both places at once then thats not the way, but if you just wanna listen to music from your pc then its good.
You should always leave AS MUCH INFO AS POSSIBLE for people when you post looking for help, that way people dont have to GUESS how to help you.
So like i said, if you just wanna listen to music without keeping it on your phone, get Estrongs (free in market) and setup a samba share (Windows Share) and connect to it and play away...
Please reply back with more in-depth info about what it is you're trying to accomplish, and maybe youll have a better chance at getting some decent help...as it stands your request is rather vague and your chances of getting a decent answer are slim so just let us know EXACTLY what it is you're trying to do and see if that gets you anywhere....hope this helps...

Well the question sums it up pretty well and it's fairly simple, I want to hear what my PC's is playing through the phone speaker or headset, eg if it's playing from a tuner card I want to 'pipe' the sound to the phone
You're going to need a compatible sound server running on the phone.
Look at pulseaudio.
Note: this is not going to be a simple project -- you need to get the pulseaudio server running on android. That means coding, compiling, etc.
Once pulseaudio server is running on the android phone, it is trivial to set the pulseaudio client on your computer to use the android phone pulseaudio server as its default output.
Good luck.
Bluetooth?
Not sure but is there a way to turn your phone into bluetooth headphones? That would probably be easier... Dunno.. Just putting it out there... If the phone supports it, programs like BlueSoleil (for pc) can pipe out all sounds over bluetooth.
do you have a wireless router? If so, you can use an app called Gmote. From there you can play music that's on your computer through your phone speaker. Also, you can use your phone to select music and have it stream through your computer. Finally, it also acts as a wireless mouse with your touch screen and you can use it to navigate instead of using your mouse if you are across the room. It's pretty convenient. I use it all the time.
I have Gmote and it's amazing, but one can only play files, I don't see a way to play the sound from the tunercard for example. Anyway not serious was just wondering if it were possible.

[Q] Galaxy s as multimedia controller pc

Hi All,
Love the forum, and since I have put froyo on, galaxy s is superb.
I have an orange uk version, terrible. so much bloatware and lag. The media player quality was very poor and glitches galore.
Since the 3 button mod, voodo & froyo upgrade it been very smooth.
What i would like to know if i can use the Salaxy s as a high quality media device connected to my Hifi.
I would like to stream flac's, and HD films from a Linux DLNA server via wifi, as well as browsing the net for you tube etc.
I understand there might be a voodoo sound mod soon, I am hoping this will give a proper line out, or even better direct use of the on board DAC.
What would be the best way to achieve high quality sound output to a hifi, is there a docking unit i should be looking at?
Could i then use a blue tooth keyboard & mouse, and use the USB to a HDMI monitor or mini projector?
Overall, a silent, high quality media centre connneted to my hifi.
I have tried DLNA All share, but its buggy ATM.
Any ideas on the best way to achieve this would be greafully recieved.
Many thanks
Ian

[Q] Newbie begging help

Hello!
I am looking for something that does not seem to exist. I registered here in hopes that the brilliant minds of XDA might be able to offer me a solution.
I want Bluetooth hands-free calling on my desktop PC.
Let me explain: I work in my garage. I use my garage PC as my only music source. I use it for email and web stuff too, of course, but its main job is providing a streaming source for music from the server in my house.
When I am working and my phone rings, I cannot hear my phone. Tablesaws and routers and sanders are noisy, and the music is blasting.
What I want is the same thing my $200 car stereo does: mute or pause the music and announce the caller ID through my speakers. When I am done with the call, resume the music.
Seems simple, doesn't it? I have been googling this for quite some time. No answers anywhere, it seems.
If/when I push the button to answer, I want to use a microphone and my speakers to talk on the phone...simple as that. Yes, I know, there are a hundred ways of doing this other than my PC (stream to tablet, BT to tab, tablet to stereo, etc.) but nothing is going to live very long in all this sawdust (including my PC, but I don't care) so the goal is to have to buy nothing but a BT dongle and some software.
So...since I work on stereo stuff for a living, the stuff you guys do is a complete mystery to me, but I know what I want.
Does anyone know of an app that does this? If not, it seems to me that this would be a fairly marketable thing, does anyone have an interest in developing this?
Thanks for looking, and hope you have some brilliant answers for my dilemma.
Thanks!
Luke Fisher
well if you plug your phone into the speakers and play music of it like Pandora or even download your own music. Then when you get a call the music will stop and your ring-tone will play through the speakers till you pick up the call or miss the call.

Yes this is true, there are no cross platforms apps that really do what you want. This will happen probably in the next years it has to do with getting the platforms to work together.
I looked into this a couple of months ago, I did find a work around if you want to operate in linux........ then you can get the phone and computer to work together but then you are doing your own custom programming...... and you just want an app sounds like you do not want to be the programmer
Maybe someone else knows more and chime in............

Linux? Isn't that Charlie Browns best friend? Has a sister named Lucy, right?
Guys, my phone is a POS, ain't gonna go there at all. Samsung Instinct S30, until I find what I need a phone to do I am not giving up any money at all.
I know I can connect a cell phone to a PC with nothing but a simple BT dongle, but getting it to pause the music is the tough part.
Maybe I will just get another JVC KD-R900 and use it for shop tunes. I could run the shop stereo from it, just use the AUX in on the JVC from the PC.
Oddly enough, I listen to full albums, often several from the same artist, so I have no use for broadcast radio, nor sattelite or internet radio, just full CDs on my hard drive.
Thanks for the input so far, guys!

Hmm... I have just done something similar with my phone.
Here's the setup:
You'll need:
1. A hi-fi system
2. An Android phone (any would do, but some of the apps in Andriod is critical)
3. 16-32gb sd-card
4. Bluetooth dongle for answering phones
Plug your phone into the hifi using the stereo sound jack, and plug your phone into the charger. Play music straight from the phone, and when it rings, you can set certain music apps to mute the music while letting the ringtone through. I'm quite sure that the default music app from el Goog, does that well.

[Q] A2DP Bluetooth bitpool quality

Hey Guys,
after weeks of trying and searching, i'm really considering to sell my Galaxy. But before i do so, i want to ask once more on this way, if anyone knows or at least got a clue about how to fix the bitpool/bitrate quality for bluetooth stereo streaming. It's important to me as i use my phone for music a lot.
The problem is known for some people, but not a lot coder/tweaker tried their luck on this yet.
The only way I know would be to flash cyanogen. I even tried it, but cyanogen is not for everyday use on the galaxy yet imo. It still has a lot more other bugs, and the battery life is much worse compared to my stock 2.3.3 rom.
Perfect solution for me would be a rom based on the stock gingerbread, with just the bitpool issue fixed. I'd even donate anyone who could fix that.
So if someone knows more about it or would give it a go and tries to fix it... I'd really appreciate that as apart of this issue i really like my Galaxy S
Have you tried gb stock ? I am on jvh and think Bluetooth streaming has improved. Try it and see if you hear the same way?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Hey fylim, thanks for your reply
Are you sure about that? Currently i'm on stock gb. I think JVB... is JVH newer?
EDIT: I've checked it i'm on JVB and modem is JVK. But i haven't read about any improvement on JVH yet... well i may try JVH then... I'd do everything to get it fixed :/
Ok, ive tried JVH... still the same aweful quality Ok, seems like i'll get a WIN7 phone soon then :/
You've got to be kidding me. Just use fre*kin wired headphones. The SGS +voodoo is like one of the best DAPs in the world and you're going to sell it because you want more quality with your bluetooth headset. Let me tell you something bluetooth and sound quality shouldn't be used in one sentence.
There is a reason i bought a bluetooth stereo headset. And just a little headup: You may have terrabytes of space on your SGS to save FLAC's or Wave files, but i bet you're using compressed music as well... So you shouldn't even start to think about "quality" even with wired headphones. So its not a qualified comment at all...
Also, like i stated before, i tried cyanogen and the quality with the bluetooth headset is the same as with wired ones. Also on my mates W7 phone its decent (after a 1 minute tweak)...

Dude, sorry to spam in your thread but I got bothered by that "not a qualified comment". First ,as I said the SGS with voodoo just blows out of the water almost all DAPs (and I mean dedicated music players). Second, yeah I have a 32GB micro sdhd card which I use with my SGS and I almost exclusively listen my music in flac or in mp3 which I have personally ripped. And I'm an audiophile with a vast collection of headphones (even bluetooth ones) and I know what I'm saying - even cheap wired headphones with voodoo sound way better than any bluetooth ones. It's your choice, I understand that wireless is more comfortable but trading an awesome phone with awesome audio quality for a Windows phone which doesn't even have Angry birds for it, let alone proper multitasking and stuff is a bad deal
There isn't much room to talk about quality even if we have 320's mp3's... Trust me, i'm really strict and sensible with such sounds issues, thats why it bothers me so much with the small bitrate on stock gingerbread. It sounds like 96 kbps compressed streaming. With cyanogen it seems to stream in the highest possible bitrate which is about 328 kbp's as far as i know (at least thats how fast it streams to the bluetooth devie on my pc). However, whats the difference between a 320 being played without bluetooth and with bluetooth? I can understand your argument if its a non compressed file format. But even Voodoo doesnt do magic with it. I got quite a bunch of cheap and expensive earplugs which i tested with, and without the bluetooth device. Trust me, you wont hear any differnce (on cyanogen at least)...
But anyway, i just tried the newest cyanogen build and some stuff got improved especially battery seems to be somewhat better... so maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel and i'll wait how cyan gets improved. I'll stick with my SGS then, as i know its sound is really good otherwise and also the rest
