Hi Guys,
I just a Captivate from from a fellow xda member.
The phone is already rooted with superuser installed.
Now I want to install CWM on it manually (not through ROM Manager, coz I like to do it manually).
I am trying the method posted here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Captivate:_Full_Update_Guide.
The drivers are installed and when I try to Hardcore's SpeedMod Kernel I get error -12 from Heimdall Suite.
For me the 3 button download mode does not work, volume down + up and then attach usb cable works.
I am on UCKB1. Recovery 3e
Questions -
Do I need to apply the 3 button fix? from what I have read I do not need to,
How Do i fix the 12 error, I have rebooted my machine and the phone as well.
Thanks
EDIT-SOLVED
Downloaded this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=522490&d=1298201640
and flashed via Odin. 3e recovery replaced with CWM

Hi everybody!
I tried to search everywhere, but I can't find it.
Does anybody know where can I find a tutorial/guide to install a kernel (voodoo if possible) un our SGS flashed with darky's 8.1?
Every info i found is uncomplete or requires certain things I've never done before.
thanks in advance!
Flash .zip(kernel) with clockwork mod recovery like you flashed darky's rom.

Every kernel developer writes installation instructions in first post. Well,
*if you have rooted phone with ClockWorksMode recovery you just download one of CWM zip files of kernel of your choice and go to recovery and install zip file from there.
*If your phone has 2e recovery do the same as above but rename your zip file to update.zip and place it in root of sd card and flash update from recovery
*if your phone has 3e recovery you need to use Odin - download odin version of kernel of your choice, unzip it to get .tar file, add this tar file to PDA field of Odin, start your phone in download mode and flash it from Odin.
You can also use "SGS kernel flasher" from the market. It is simpler (recommended). Use CWM versions of kernels or unpack zImage somewhere.
You do understand that Darky's Rom comes with a kernel (Voodoo Advanced without OC/UV I believe).
You can check it's enabled by enterring recovery mode on your phone by turning it off and then turning it back on with the combination of Vol-down + Home + Power and then the appropriate sub-menu.
If you want to install a new one, download the CWM (ClockWork Mod) version of the kernel and flash it through the same Clockwork Recovery.
three excellent responses, each one better than the other
Thank you, thank you very much !
Sorry to be picky but its vol up, home and power.
Vol down gives you download mode.
Yes, as Zeroundead said, if you already have Darky's ROM, you just reboot into recovery, and enable it.
Darky's Version 8.1 has Speedmod kernel.
Here's a video of enabling the lagfix in version 8.0.

Hi I rooted my galaxy s i9000 on 2.2 Froyo. When I boot into recovery, I only have standard Samsung 2e recovery. I have tried using rom manager to flash clockworkmod but it is not working. I have also tried using the update.zip in recovery but is sayin its not verified. So I am looking for Help
Thanks
When you boot into recovery, do the 3 button Vol up + Home + Power again! It should then load into CWR.
Help
Do you mean once in samsung 2e recovery do the three button combo again and you should go into cwm??? I just tried that and it didn't work. Any more suggestions?? I reckon that I must of just missed something
Help
Please help...
In which way you rooted your phone?
Did you install custom kernel or something?
I don't remember much about Froyo, since when I got my SGS I updated to 2.3 almost straight away.
Root 2.2
I rooted my phone on 2.2 using the one click root application for the computer

Man rooted your phone with this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Possibly when did the cell root, put the stock kernel without cwm. You only need to download a custom kernel for example CF-Root or SpeedMod, you should look which is the PDA version installed and according to that you download the correct version. When you install it you will have access to cwm by the combination of the three buttons (Vol + + Home + Power)
hi there, don´t know if I can ask something about CWM here too????
I´ve got Firmware 2.3.3 Gingerbread, Basisbandversion I9000XXJVO, Kernel [email protected]#2, Buildnumber Gingerbread.XWJVI
can´t run CMW via Rom Manager as i´ve got 3e recovery ..... which ROM shall I flash via Odin to get the 2e recovery to install Vlockwork Mod properly??
tx in advance !!!!
Ok... from the top - I've done a good amount of flashing custom ROMs (B & N Nook and Captivate) and reading on forums but I'm currently stumped. I can't boot into the ClockworkMod recovery - instead I go to the stock android system recovery <3e>. This has been my complete procedure:
1 - Odin3 one-click downloader and connect phone in downloading... mode, click "start" to go back to stock
2 - odin one click "master clear"
3 - Samsung Kies update to Android 2.2 froyo and then Android 2.3 Gingerbread
4 - One click root
5 - Put .zip of ROM on internal sd root
6 - Odin3 v1.82 load ClockworkMod Recovery .tar
Now here is where I am stuck - I have the most up to date ClockworkMod Recovery but I can't boot into anything but the stock android system recovery <3e> (either through the app or by holding volume up and down and powering on) - where if I change the zip file name to update and try to apply update from sdcard I get an error that the signature verification failed. I'd like to install the latest build of ICS but I am just stuck - any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
You'll need a kernel with the non-3e recovery baked in. You can either flash a Gingerbread kernel with CWM (e.g. Boog's kernel) or flash a stock gingerbread rom with CWM in the kernel.
Ok - thank you. I have downloaded that Heimdall one-click .jar file. However I'm having trouble opening it... I feel really foolish ont his but if I extract the files I see a readme file that says I shouldn't be reading it and I have gone the wrong way. But if I open the unextracted file it tries to open in WinRAR and again non of the files seem like a program file that I can just open and run. Sorry about this...
No problem - just double-click the file. The .jar is an executable file that will install the necessary drivers, open the heimdall program, and get everything ready to flash. Once it's ready and sees your phone in download mode, all you have to do is click flash and it will do the rest.
I have now figured out ICS - I think I had the wrong .zip I was trying to install... Does the ICS allow for overclocking?
Ok - my apologies again for keeping going with this (but my main goal is to get to ICS) with that kernel it wouldn't let me install ICS (but I was able to do the latest CyanogenMod). On the Team Hacksung Wiki page FAQ on Galazy S it looks like CM7 kernels don't work - did the one I installed from the above thread have a CM7 kernel?
Does anyone know of a specific kernel I can use to go from stock 2.3.5 so I can boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and install the ICS zip?
I'm sorry - I needed to update or install Java... Then I needed to install the correct drivers - automatically routed to this through the Heimdall program so it was easy enough (I think this has to do with switching between ODIN and Heimdall). Thank you again so much for the help. Time to give ICS a shot
YouTube ics video I had the same issue boog kerneral with cwm baked in it att boot loaders follow the instructions I'm using works great

Flash back to stock 2.1 which includes the 2e recovery which doesn't have signature checks. With that you can flash a cwm zip and get into the clockworkmod recovery. On the captivate you gotta reinstall the the update zip twice, once to install cwm, the other to actually go into cwm.

I wouldn't recommend flashing back to 2.1, as it is much easier to simply flash a kernel with CWM baked in.
That is also an option, both able to be done with several clicks of a button.

any help?
i try to enter to APPLY SDCARD:UPDATE.ZIP
but have the same error :
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verifcation failed
i have galaxy i9000b
also have the superuser , 2.2.1 froyo and wanna upg to ice cream or anything new
i read i have to change the android systema recovery <3e> to 2e ??
here i found a lynck with 3e-fix-unzip-uninstall
but these is for Captivate and doesn't work for i9000b ?
Yea 3e recovery has a signature check, and clockworkmod zips are not officially "signed." Either flash back to stock 2.1 eclair which has 2e recovery w/o signature checks, or flash a custom kernel with cwm already included, as suggested above. I cannot speak for if the modded 3e recovery will work on an i9000b.

Edit: this 3e mod should work on the i9000b, and has worked great for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989

Hi everyone,
I've a problem with my SGS.
I was trying to install my first custom rom on the stock android 2.3.6 - CM10 following the WIKI.
After I've installed as suggested Heimdall, I've tried to install hardcore's ClockworkMod Recovery but once I've typed the command "heimdall flash --kernel zImage" in the terminal window the phone starts booting up again and again in an infinite loop.
How can i fix the problem?
Thanks for helping

Do you use sgs or sgs+ ?
because i know more things about the sgs+
maybe solution: turn out the battery and then if you can get into recovery mode, flash a cwm recovery zip and an ICS or JB rom
if it doesn't help report back
Greets
It is a SGS.
I've noticed that I can get into ClockworkMod recovery with the 3-buttons combo and i can navigate in the menu or wipe cache and so on.
Is it possible that my problem is due to an wrong firmware? Maybe i should use the multiCSC version?
Where can I find the cwm recovery zip?

Thanks everyone for help and hints!
I managed installing CM10 by reverting to stock firmware with Odin, then reflashing again CF with Odin and at the end installing latest CM10.1 successfully
The only thing I was missing in the first attempt was I haven't installed KIES on the pc (it is new) where i plugged the SGS (I thought that with heimdall i wasn't supposed to install kies) but in order to get Odin working i must install kies.
After kies installation, Odin successfully revert to stock firmware, than CF e than CM10.1

Hello guyz,
I have a friend's i9000 and he wants me to flash CM10.1 on his phone.
Problem is the phone is in 2.2.1 (Froyo) and as fas as i know CWM can be installed on Gingerbread and above. So i went ahead and connected it to Kies to update it, but it stucks on Connecting.. forever and eventually it throughs me a message about activating (or deactivating..) USB debugging). I tried with both USB Debugging on and off and the result is the same. It stays forever to Connecting state.
I tried to find Samsung Stock Roms in 2.3 version but cannot find any. I flashed with Odin other stock froyo's and still the same. Kies won't connect.
So i currently am at 2.2.1 FROYO.XWJSD and i just downloaded ROM Manager and flashed CWM for i9000. Within Rom Manager under Recovery Setup, it says on both Current Recovery and Latest Recovery: ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2But when i press the 3-button combo it boots to Samsung Recovery..
Any ideas?
Thank you

You will have to upgrade to GB first, root and then continue install ICS/JB. To these, follow this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057161
