How to forget hotel's wireless network on my Tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on a business trip staying at one of the Hilton resorts and was planning to use the Wireless Tether on my rooted EVO 4G to get my Tab online, but had no luck. The hotel has some setup on their attwifi which kicks my tethered connection off and comes back even after I select "forget" on the wireless settings menu. I tried searching the webs for the solution, but can't find any. Is there any way to block the hotel network?

reverse tethering?

greetings,
just got my first android phone a week ago. captivate. kicks arse. anyways ive been wondering if there is a way to 'reverse tether'. in other words share my pc internet with my phone so i dont have to use so much of my data. i dont have wifi on my pc but i have a bluetooth dongle that plugs into usb that enables connection of bluetooth devices. i was thinking maybe i could tunnel thru the bluetooth and somehow access internet thru that. wishful thinking or a possibility?
Actually what u want to do is create a adhoc network where ur computer sends out wifi via a incripted network go to network and sharing center and go to create a adhoc network u can look it up in ur help guide its differing with each operating system hoped I helped

Ad hoc eh? Been seeing ad hoc something-or-anothers in the market and whatnot and wasn't sure what it was. That would be setup within windows on mah pc correct? And then mah phone would just recognize it as an available wifi connection?

Non rooted phones can't connect to Ad-Hoc networks.
Yeah im rooted. Should have made that clear right off the bat, sorry. That being said, it IS possible then to tunnel thru the bluetooth dongle and use my pc's internet? Remember, my pc doesnt have wifi
Just cable internet. Im just looking too leech off my pc with my phone and not vice-versa.

After further investigation pdanet seems to be able to do what I seek. Is this the only/best option?

Since the PC has bluetooth, you can create a Bluetooth NAP or PAN on the PC side. This creates a "personal area network" that you can then connect to from the phone. Some bluetooth PC software supports this, some do not. Depends what your dongle supports!
right on! thanks for the reply.
i was actually trying the PAN option yesterday after discovering it via google. couldnt get it to work tho. i get stuck at the part where i have to select the service i am wanting. it says the only services available from my captivate are Active sync, Headset Gateway, Object Push, Obex File Transfer. Active Sync seemed to be the closest thing but when selected it doesnt add a shortcut in my devices like the options do so i figured it didnt work. far as i know active sync id for winmobile or something anyways so i wasnt counting on it.
Any advise from here? It's all very much appreciated.
This too must have already been covered. I'll look elsewhere.

As said before, unfortunately Android does seem to connect to Ad-Hoc networks easily. If you are running Windows 7, you can use Connectify to create a WiFi hotspot and connect through that.
The other alternate is to create an Ad-Hoc network and join that network. I have not been able to get this working correctly yet but other phones have.
The problem is that the native wpa_supplicant filters all the ad-hoc networks from the wifi network list.
You can get the patched wpa_supplicant with allows you to see all the networks here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
Remember to get the 0.6.x version.
Then I believe you have to set your wifi to use a static ip to be able to connect.
The last time I tried I managed to get a connection on Froyo ROMS but no data. It just might be my settings on either ends.
excellent reply. thanks are in order here.
For closure, I ended up using connectify. Works perfectly.

Wifi tethering and repeater problem. Help please

Hmm. My story is i'm using provider Indosat on my country. Use it in my office and it works fine. I can tether it easily to my laptop. Most of my colleague are using another provider Simpati, and recently my office bought a repeater to strengthen Simpati's signal. And now, i can still get signal for my indosat, but my internet is barely works at all. Any solution to overcome this?
My other solution is i change provider to Simpati, but somehow Simpati blocked the data plan. I can tether it using wifi but there'a no data flow rendering it useless. I can still use it on the phone though.
Is there a hack or anything to enable the data flow? Since my plan is already unlimited anyway.
Thanks before, any suggestion will do

[Q] Driving around, you find some Comcast Wifi

So I use my girlfriends comcast Wifi because its in her neighborhood when I go to her apartment. Its great, its fast, it works all the way down the street and to the train station and then some.
Now that my phone has remembered that I connected to the Comcast Wifi there, its EVERY comcast wifi hotspot around my phone will automatically connect to. And on top of that, If I try to voice text, or navigate, and im either driving ir standing in the area with COMCAST wifi, it won't connect unless I go to the browser, and reenter in all of the information. Is there a way to keep her login information saved so that it just connects when I go to an area with comcast wifi?

Sounds like she has some default SSID that everyone else uses, too. Just change it to something unique. Then, when you're out, ever other Comcast router with the default identifier won't fool your Bionic.
Like like LinkSys routers default to the name "linksys". Just change it to something else that nobody will have and you shouldn't have that problem anymore.
Sorry I should have been more specific...
she is actually using the outside wifi at her apartment. she doesn't have a router at her house. is there a way around this

I suppose that you could try an app like Locale that can automatically turn on WiFi when you are at home and turn it off when you leave.

Verizon has a free app on the market tobtirn wifi on or off depending on where you are

Galaxy Gear internet access via 4g lte

I use Null23 with an unrooted Sprint Note 3 to access the internet. I have Bluetooth tethering set on the phone and Bluetooth internet access set on the Gear. I can connect to the internet OK, but only when I am connected to the internet by wifi on the phone. If I set the wifi to off on the phone, the gear will not connect to the internet. Am I missing something? Are the 3G/4G speeds too slow so that the gear doesn't think it is connected?

Thanks for directing to the other thread. It appears that for sprint you still need planet and spoofing even though the note2 lets you check Bluetooth tethering.
Thanx guys..I can tether my device to tablets, pc's etc. but I used to be able to connect galaxy to internet via note 3 and receive a connection even on 4g, now only when I'm connect to wifi. What is planet? I have spoof on null Rom. Thanx again.

Planet is Pdanet as corrected by my wonderful spell checker.:cyclops:
I use screenshare to browse with my gear. Very little battery drain. Download it from playstore.

Tethering PS4 through VPN...and Tmobile still knows!?

Hello Everyone.
I am using a VPN and the Wifi Tether Router paid app from the market. I am curious as to how T-mobile still knows I am tethering, as I just got a "You used 80% of your High speed data" text from them (Have unlimited data plan)
Any ideas on how to completely hide? SSL? Proxy? Only seem to have issues with the Playstation and not the PC....
Any help appreciated...
The PS4 data probably shows up different on the network than PC data. I've read that T-Mobile put some new things in place on their end to identify data usage being masked.

I saw similar results. I noticed that when I tether, it doesn't route me through my openVPN connection regardless of the tethering method I use. You can test this on your own, fire up the vpn, then tether to your PC, then go check the external IP on your PC.
You'll most likely need a non-stock ROM for it to work. The ROM probably reports all MACs and the traffic passing through it to T-MO.
Try this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3071188
