Water damage, dim green LED - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hi, when I try to turn on a water damaged droid, it just shows a dim green LED in the notifications area. I got it damaged, and I'm wondering if I can fix it at all. Any suggestions?

All I can say is to any water damaged item, is to put the phone in an air-tight box full of rice for a few days to absorb any water left in the device...also do the same with the battery but in another box
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

By the time I got it it was already dry, I don't know if it would help now. Do you think its dead by now?

You can never be to sure...the internals might have some dampness left in it

It really depends. It depends on what kind of water it was in, how deep was it in the water, how long was it in the water, and was it given sufficient time to dry before turning on? I bought a water damaged phone off of ebay because I broke my screen and in the process of fixing it I broke the ribbon to the lcd and did other damage, whoops. It turned out everything was good on the water damaged one and all I had to do was swap motherboards and it worked fine.
If you cant get it to work, maybe you can pick up a phone with a broken screen for cheap and just mix parts like I did.

Yes I think I will Frankenstein it. I will definitely try to dry it out in rice or something, thank you.

[Q] Water Damage - need help pls

I had submerged my xperia z in a swimming pool to record some video before i realized that it was a big mistake, i had noticed that water had got inside the device firstly when the screen was rapidly flickering then went extremely dim (had to reflect it off sun to be able to barely see it) then i could see it through the camera holes in back and front and speakers where very very low...
When i put it in charge an hour later the device gave a vibrations and then 3 vibrations following which meant that there'd been a hardware failure. Then a week later (today) the device somehow had revived itself because it was giving a blinking red light which meant the battery was flat, so then i put it in charge gave a vibration a solid red light came on which meant it was woriking, BUT everything apart from the screen had turned itself on. What should i do now, put in the sun, leave it in charge, hairdry it, rice, put it in isopropyl alcohol send it of to sony for repair???

put it in cup of rice for night to confirm that no water inside (open all covers)
then charge it till battery full then wake it.
good luck.
Leave it in a bag of rice for several days, at least a week then try it again.
If the water has come in thru a fawlty backside it should be repaired under warranty.
At least here in Sweden the service place pressure test it for leaks and can se if it has a defect such as a faulty backside.
wolf0491 said:
They do that over there? I don't even know if the service center in US would do that for me. Mainly because my model is c6603. But anytime I talk to someone they say any water damage cannot be fixed and they won't fix it.

Freely translated from Telecare Service in Sweden who is a Sony certified repair shop. This came from a Swedish forum where a member asked about water exposure due to faulty back plate.
”We don't refuse water damage Xperia Z because they should be waterproof. We do a water test (pressure test) and then we send that information to Sony who decides if the fault is the customer or the manufacturer.
If your back plate is loose that is a warranty repair. And if the phone has been exposed to water because of that, we send that information to Sony.”

Oh dear,
its just that everything i charge it battery goes down really quickly, i think the mobo is just about working the red light is flickering and really dark the screen isnt working
Although ino that touch screen is working because i can feel vibration when i touch bottom of home screen and sound is working, so i dont know i really dont want to send it to sony because theyll know its been water damaged which isnt covered by warranty and it will involve in hefty repair bill.
A company called buzzbox are offering to do it for £30 (GBP) IF SUCCESSFUL AND £20 if not, but they said that most are successful, really dont know...

Give it a shot if it works out then great.
I doubt Sony would repair it, but still atleast go to Sony service and confirm it.
If they decline then give it to buzzbox.
unrooting with no screen
ok ive decided to send it off to sony for repair but i need to get it under warranty again before sending it and i can only do this by unrooting the device, but i have no screen. Does anybody have any idea how i can unroot a device with on screen, all the tutorials ive seen require a screen
Rooting your device didn't cause the problem you have. So rooted or not rooted, it shouldn't matter.

nothing to do by yourself
if u r sure all ports were closed underwater just take it to official service for replacement.
:good:
Hey OP, I had the same problem after water damage. Just keep using your phone like normal, it'll start turning white/negative less often, and after 3 weeks or so, your phone will be back to normal!

thank you for your attention....
i thought i should let put my xperia z to the sony service center....but i think twice to put it in ssc, cause in my country their service is very bad....the customer very difficult to use their guaranty....once again thank you for all your attention
Water damage isn't covered in the warranty, and it's expensive to repair. When my phone got water damaged (happened less than 48 hours after I got it), I put it in a bag of rice with the 2 smaller flaps open for a few days. That didn't help at all, so I decided to leave it in my cupboard with all the flaps open for a day or two. Surprisingly, this took care of all the visible condensation. I charged my phone after this, and there seemed to be no problem. I continued to use the phone like nothing happened, and I kept using it even while the screen was white.
I've had my Xperia Z for almost a month now, and the white screen issue is entirely gone. I also had other problems like condensation in the camera, a malfunctioning proximity sensor, and an external speaker that didn't work. These problems are gone too.
The only signs of damage left on my phone are condensation in the flash and a little silver blob below my screen (no clue what this is, but it doesn't seem to affect the phone).
I'd say leave your phone somewhere airy with ALL of the flaps open for a couple of days, and then try charging it. DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER OR A VACUUM TO TRY TO REMOVE WATER, AS THIS WILL RESULT IN HEAT/STATIC DAMAGE.
By the way, how many of your water ingress indicators have gone red?

there 1 indicator have gone red, at charge port, but i really sure i've closed it before i brought it in to the water...
so if there is technical error when installation the port, are the warranty still valid ?
i just put my xperia in my bedroom and left with the ports opened, i hope the water inside my lcd can evaporate. I've the same problem with you, there are some silver blob below in my screen too, look like water behind the lcd. almost a week i never charge my phone, i'm afraid there will be shorting inside. so can i charge my xperia now ?
I put my iPod touch on the dash of my car for a day. It dried it out. No sign of water damage. It was in my pocket of shorts and my wife washed it in the laundry.

Yeah, but your iPod isn't held together by a heat-sensitive adhesive. The Xperia Z is. So that's not exactly the best idea...

Hey, don't mention it
Wow, that's funny. It's the same exact water indicator that's turned red on my phone.
The flaps on your phone could be faulty, and if they are, you are still under warranty. Next to your headphone flap, there is actually a Waterproof Test Hole, which Sony Service Centers use to test if your phone's waterproof capabilities are okay. The test hole can't be seen as there is a piece of plastic that covers it.
The thing is that it's more than likely that your phone will pass the waterproof test, and that your flaps came loose underwater when you were taking the video (pretty sure this is what happened to me as well).
Oh, and I can confirm that the silver blob is not water, but actually some sort of corrosion. It happened to my previous phone as well, and when I took it apart there was no water at in it at all.
Go ahead and charge it, you've got nothing to lose. Your warranty is void, and it's not like your phone will work without charge. Good luck!

[Q] LCD Alcohol damage

Hey guys, two days ago I was using my s4 Active on the bathtub to test the Aqua mode on the camera. After that when I tried to charge it it wouldn't charge. I've been using different batteries and an external charger to keep it running before going to my provider and check if the warranty will cover it.
Yesterday I read that alcohol may work to fix water damage, so I poured some 80% rubbing alcohol onto the usb port and basically the entire back of the phone. I let it dry in the sun for about 20 minutes and when I turned it on the screen was completely ****ed up, there are like blubs under it, as if the alcohol got under the screen, i can barely see it and now the touch capability won't work. Is there any way to fix this or is my phone lost?

You did what? I....I just..........just send it in for warranty replacement, say it is water damaged, and leave it at that.
By chance, did you leave the battery in it when you did this? If so, take Devo's advice and pray for the best because that's your only hope. ANY liquid inside a phone with a battery in it will short things out. Even with the battery removed there are still capacitors inside that hold small amounts of electricity for a period that could be damaged by liquid. Not a very good idea.

[Q] got it wet

hi community,
i went on a trip with my bike, after an hour it started to rain, really heavy rain. as soon as it started i closed the flap for the headphone-jack, and put the device in my trousers pocket. when i arrived at home my trousers were soaking wet. the device turned itself of (short circuit?). every water-indicator turned red, even with closed flaps. i removed SD and SIM, opened all flaps. my device suffers the backplate lifting problem you all propably know about. its still wet on the inside after one night as i can tell from the steamy front and backcamera lenses. some questions:
what can i do in order to get it fully dry ?
when can i try to turn it on ?
in case it is really damaged, is there any way to get some money out of it ?
thanks in advance
put it in a bag of rice for about 24/48 hours to see if it fully drys out

Exactly right. Actually I also took off the back plate and put it at the back of my pc... used the fans to blow my Z for a few days cuz I don't usually shut off my pc.
Try turn it on when you feel it's dry inside. Maybe after 24hr if you don't take off the back plate.
If it's eventually dead, sell it for parts. I could use a rear camera
it was in a bag of rice for a few days now. tried to turn it on today, nothing. no vibration, no led or any sign of life. connected it to the charger, to the pc, nothing. im pretty sure the water came in to the loose backpanel, so is there a chance they will replace/repair it? or do the red water indicators void all warranty ?

That's true.. Give it more days and see if it turns on.
It's been a while, but i wanted to let you know what happened.
The phone was irreparably damaged and i took it to the vendor where i bought it.
They sent it to sony. In the form i had to fill out i mentioned that the water damage
is a result of the loose backpanel. In the end sony gave a replacement device for free,
i think it took two weeks or so..guess im lucky

Xperia Z water damage?

okay, so i went swimming and i wanted to take pics, (that was a bad idea) after 4 min the screen started flickering for like 30min and then it turned black. The phone is still on and working because i can see the screen if i see it through the light (like an old gameboy, no backlight) its in a bag of rice right now so i dont know if the screen will be back again :/ What do i have to do?

Probably the Backlight is dead or not making contact from the water damage, try letting it in rice for at least 2 weeks without touching and see after two weeks. The smart move for now would be to wait. IF that doesn't work you'll have to replace the screen.

it's clearly water damage. rice dries it out but does not help because it oxides the metal faster. The best thing to do is to open it up, buy isopropyl alcohol and bath the motherboard and damaged connectors. it's the best way to deep clean a water damaged device, but it might be too late.
alternatively, the illuminator fuse from the mother board might be busted. it's fairly easy to repair in a gsm shop so you might want to try your luck there. If the isopropyl bath doesn't work just take it to a gsm service shop. They can safely heat up the component at hundreds of degrees to dry it out and redo it's soldering on the board.
Now you have those two options.
