OK, this is the first time I've edited an apk file, but I'm running it on my phone with no problems. I'm using odexed "stock" EG22. Your Mileage May Vary! If you are running EG22 you've already voided your warranty so don't blame me if your phone bursts into flames. So far only one person has tested this (me) but it's a pretty basic edit and what could possibly go wrong!
I took the CRT/Battery mod that was posted by Tortel1210 (thanks) and replaced the framework in it with a stock EG22 framework that has had one line edited in it to enable CRT animation. Thanks to kennethpenn in the Atrix forum for instructions on how and what to edit. For those interested, here's the instructions I followed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138800
Here's the installer I created. Install using CWM.
http://hotfile.com/dl/125082870/ab0f039/eg22CRT.zip.html
EDIT:
Just a heads up here. Apparently enabling the CRT Off animation causes the automatic screen brightness function to work incorrectly; it jumps from full dim to full bright instead of continuously varying. From what I've read this is a gingerbread bug that occurs on all phones. I've confirmed that it happens with this mod.
2nd time 1st!!!...nice job BTW!Went back to EF02 but a few more of these and off to EG22 I go, thanks!
Anybody working on a port for the screen "on" animtion or the overscroll glow..its just aother file in the same framework package isn't it (CRT screen on)...if it is...then I'm hoping those instructions can allow the screen on as well.

Ok thanks I had a misunderstanding of the concept...can they be ported from another ASOP Gingerbread ROM or ported over like some of our devs have done with porting themes?

I don't intend to be pushy...but I just get jealous when I see other GB ROM's on other phones that aren't CM7...with features that we don't have...

As I understand it, the overscroll glow requires quite a bit of modifications as does the CRT ON. I also think enabling them requires a deodexed rom.
CRT OFF is built into the existing framework and can be enabled by just changing one parameter and recompiling, which is what I did. I'm not a developer but I'm pretty good at following other people's instructions, so I was able to put this together pretty easily. It'll take an actual developer to add the other stuff.

I got chu....maybe it will happen once we get some GB source code and get CM7 working for the epic...from my knowledge once you have the feature compatable with the hardware of the phone on one ROM...it should be an asy transition btwn different ROM's for the same phone...thanks for clarifying though.

Deodexed ROM
This may be obvious from the title of the thread, but is this compatible with the deodexed ROM?
If not, can you give me any advice on how to make this for the deodexed ROM?

I haven't tested it on deodexed, but I think it will work. If you backup in CWM before you install it and it doesn't work you can recover by just "advanced restoring" system in CWM. You could be the guinea pig!

Thanks for the info. I see that there is now a thread on deodexed overscroll and crt off, but for me since installing the overscroll works, but not crt. I migjt try this one soon.

I flashed the Congnition 4.1 and everything is working excellent (Thanks DesignGear :-D), but when I tried to flash a custom boot animation from MobileTech.com and a Theme from XDA (can't remember whom it was from), my phone started vibrating only.
Has anyone here seen this same issue and if they were able to corrected, could you give me some pointers?
Thanks,

themes have to be built specifically for the framework that you are running. you cannot just go around flashing random themes.
as far as boot animation, most of the time, i dont think those are CWM flashable, you just drop bootanimation.zip into /system/media/ and thats it
You can't flash any theme you want. the theme has to use the framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk files from UCKB1 rom in order to work with Cognition. So, you have to look around and see if a theme says it's compatiable with UCKB1. It's only been a few days, I'm sure you'll see some more ported on the Themes and Applications section soon.
Thanks for the quick reply.
and dont try using darkness 2.5 on 4.1 either. it worked on 4.0 but it will not work on cog 4.1.

Welcome to the CW3/Edify .zip Creation/Conversion thread
My main goal in everything I do here is to raise Autism Awareness
Hello everyone,
I am no longer supporting the old thread as most, if not all of them were based on DI18 and or DK28. In an attempt to further contribute and avoid compatibility issues I'm starting this thread for EB13/CW3 compatible zips. I also took down the old repository so you guys don't flash something that will screw up your phone..
If you want something converted/Created you need to remember a few things.
1) IT MUST BE EB13 compatible (especially if system apks are involved ie dialers and other themed system apks)
2) You must attach the apk or zip file you want created or converted.
3) I will not touch paid apps....SO DO NOT POST THEM.
4) My life is complicated so please be patient.... I'll do my best to keep up with this thread.
ALL zips will be posted in my EC 05 .zips repository on my lostandtired.com blog. Click on the "Android Development" page and look in the right hand column..
Also, if myself or anyone else helps you PLEASE click the "Thanks" button below.
Rebuilding the .zips repository for EC05. All zips are located in the right column under Android EC05 .zips on the Android Development page.

hello, first of all, thank you so much for all your hard work on helping us all out with your skills and spreading awareness for autism. i'm a total newbie, but i can follow instructions very well so i rooted my month-old epic cuz i hated all the bloatware and tried out your midnight rom 5.0. i love it!
recently updated to 5.1, and its great too. i apologize if any of these are just plain stupid requests, but if you are taking requests for custom zips:
1. i like the 5.0 boot and shutdown animations a bit better than the 5.1 animations as nifty as they may be. is it possible to modify the animations?
2. is there a way to remove stock email and sprint hotspot?
3. although i updated to 5.1, i notice that when i install the bonsai eco5 aosp lockscreen, it removes the reboot option from the power menu.
other than that, i have everything i ever wanted and needed from my epic. i understand how busy you must be but THANK YOU! i'm a big fan.

Thank you very much for the hard work. I do have one question. The stock android man zip has both the standard hdpi folders and also hdpi-v4. From the best I can tell the v4 folders are not needed. Is that the case? Can those folders be removed without breaking anything? Thanks again for all of the help.
OK I know I am needy but one last question. You have included the twframework-res.apk in the package. Is that necessary for the batterymod or anything else in the package. I already have a modified one that I would rather not have to redo.
Pardon my ignorance. By reading this title, I am assuming this is for Stock ROM's. I tried to flash the circle mod and i get force closes galore. I also tried fixing permissions=no dice. Tried to wipe cache partition, dalvik cache, and reflash and keep getting the same result. Did I misread this or am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance!

I got it to work on the Syndicate ROM. Made a backup, wiped cache and dalvik three times each and have had only one force close at the beginning with LauncherPro, but that hasn't happened since. I just flashed because I wanted the little android mod and using battery icon mod made my phone go into a boot loop. So I can confirm it working for Syndicate, but I'm not sure about Bonsai or the others.
Great work by the way, ptfdmedic.

OK I went ahead and removed the v4 folders and used my own twframework-res.apk. Everything is working great. I only have one problem but I think that is an Epic problem and not your mod. When I charge the battery with an external charger or with the phone turned off it works great. If I charge the phone while it is on the phone will alert that it is full however the battery meter says 96%. Sometimes it will say 100% but as soon as I disconnect the charger is drops to 96%.
So thank you again for all that you do. It is much appreciated.

I am on the same setup as you. I used the android guy version. I did not flash it straight out so I am not positive of how it works. What I did was download the androidguy zip. I extracted the res folder from framework-res.apk. I removed all of the -v4 folders because they were duplicates. I replaced all of the images except the battery icons with the theme I am using. I replaced the twframework-res.apk with the theme file that I am using. I put everything back into the zip and flashed with clockwork. And that was all I did.
How did you install the modd? Did you just download and flash the zip in clockwork or did you modify it in any way? If you just flashed it straight out I would try removing the -v4 folders to make sure that is not the problem. If you modified it than make sure you only modified the images and not any of the xml files. Hope this helps. If you can provide more details about how you are installing it maybe we can assist further but try this for now.

I can't say for certain if it will work for you or not but it is something to try. All I can say is what I did using the android guy version. I have not tried the blue circle on. Plus I have customized it a bit and am using my own framework.res file. So any portion of that could be the difference. But let us know how this one goes and maybe the op can help figure it out.
I was wondering if any kind soul could make it possible to provide flashable zips to change the transition animations on our phones. I know that Adrynalyne had some cool transition animations on some versions of his SuperClean Rom, but I would like to continue this. Also, in particular, if it's possible to have a screen rotation animation I would love to have that also. Thanks!
The only way would be to either have metamorf files (which someone posted here a very long time ago) of the different animations or have multiple zips that only include framework-res.apk. The animations are controlled by xmls located in framework-res.apk/res/anim. I myself for my personal theme have created a nice cocktail of the various types of animation xmls used tasefully for various ui events and actions.

Saw that app, and a couple of fascinate users comment that it boot looped them. If that app swaps out the "whole" anim folder within the apk and if you're running comm rom or the newer sbrissen mods it will surely boot loop you. 7 xml's pertaining to the lockscreens have been added by sbrissen to that anim folder and if those get deleted by an app replacing the whole anim folder within the framework it will certainly lead to trouble.

Actually there is a way to patch basically any apk or jar file on the phone through a flashable zip. I have been doing exactly that so that I can maintain mods between upgrades.
An anim patch would be very easy to apply without breaking anything. But as chopper the dog stated, if you mess with or delete others then there will be issues.
Anyhow if interested I can put together a basic anim patch for testing or I can share a readily available anim patch for cm7 (mtd, possibly miui as well) as proof of concept. From there you could modify what you want patched to your liking and the updater-script for (rfs) if needed.
Of course this is something that only myself have used, so it would come with no guarantee's. Would be interesting to see how compatible it would be or better yet how far it could be taken. I have replaced resource's this way without issue.

It would be great if you could get this tested by a few brave individuals. If you want, you can use my thread or make another one. I personally need the stability of Comm Rom for everyday use of my phone so I won't be going to CM7 until some of the signal, SOD, and calling issues are addressed. The AnimMod app works great but I would like to see a larger compilation of transition animations to choose from. We could even stick these zips in the theme sticky . Also what about screen rotation animations? Is this possible? Thanks for answering my call to god!

Those SOD issues were a blessing in disguise.. lol
Not completely familiar with screen rotation animations. A quick search states there used to be what they called fancy animations in android 1.5 but no longer added after. I could be wrong this is my first android phone, so I don't know the history. Anyhow there are some slightly rotating anims in the patch.
Ok, so this is what is going on..
An apk is just a zip file with an .apk extension. So what I am doing is utilizing a zip binary that is copied to a temp location along with some very basic commands. With these commands its basically injecting the structure of the res folder in the patch, to your framework.
Therefor you can use this to inject basically anything as long as you follow the structure. As stated before I have changed resource level items such as colors without issue. Just be advised if you change out any id's from public.xml and many others it will end in failure. This can also be modified to patch any apk or even jar files. It can also be modified to make a cwm zip of your current rom, data apps etc... The list go's on!
So in a sum, the zip will copy a zip & zipalign binary along with the script and patch files to /tmp. The script will kick in and as an added bonus (incase anything go's wrong) will make a backup of your existing framework-res.apk and create a cwm zip and place it on the root of your sdcard called notta-anim-patch-restore.zip. This zip can be flashed to restore the previous state.
Then utilizing the zip binary, will inject the patch files zipalign and ovewrite your /system/framework/framework-res.apk. In this case a set of animations. I hope this is a satisfactory explanation.
As with anything you flash, you do it you except responsibility. Also I have personally tested this one ukb 2.1. This should work with any touchwiz fascinate rom, well anything with a system location at "stl9".

Since I couldn't find a CRT off animation for stock FC09, I decided to make it and share!
Flashing with ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7. I've only installed this on my own stock / MTD / FC09 Epic 4G (it should work on BML roms as well, but I haven't tested) - it works for me. Make a nandroid backup just in case, and wipe your Dalvik cache before flashing, but this should work on odexed and deodexed roms just fine. If it works for you, be sure to push the Thanks button, Thanks!
Just fyi...this mod hangs my phone after flash..running tpr 2.2 mtd and nashs neon viper theme...some sort of conflict...sigh...

Don't need this mod for your setup. You may have set window and transition animations to fast in spare parts. To avoid defeating the built-in CRT-Off animation, set your "Window Animations" to "Normal". You can still have speed of transitions with "Transition Animations" set to "Fast".
This mod will also change themes' icons if they don't match and for that reason, this mod should be considered a theme. I'd suggest using it for stock-only; I can't think of a custom ROM or Theme for epic that doesn't have CRT-Off animation.

It's Nashdogg's fault he made the neon viper theme and I bet its not in there. Love the theme too much to leave it.
Nash..any chance? Love you man! :fingers-crossed:

I'm pretty sure the neon theme has CRT off, it may not have CRT on but that wouldn't be too hard to make happen.

No, if off is there, that is cool, must be my spare parts transition speed...if that isn't the culprit. I will most certainly be a pest!

This. I run straight up stock, so that's why I end up making this mod at just about every release. Only those few of us who haven't received our 32GB Galaxy S IIIs and still use our Epic 4Gs on stock as daily drivers should apply, heh.

Can you make this deodexed? I'm running Kennyglass' FC09 MTD prerooted Deodexed and every time I flash this, I get stuck in a boot loop. I wipe cache partition and Dalvik, and Spare Parts says my animations are set to Normal. Help! want this animation!

This is the FC09 CRT on.zip it will give you CRT on and off. Pretty cool. A big thanks to travmofosho for putting this together. I used this in a lot of my themes.
So here's how to apply it. Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache. Go to mounts and storage and mount system. It will say " unmount system when its mounted. Then flash this zip and reboot...enjoy

NOPE! I'm on Kennyglass' Deodexed Prerooted FC09MTD with Kernel 2.6.35.7-Shadow-FC09-MTD_v1.0.1, FC09 modem. It doesn't stick me in a bootloop, but it doesn't seem to work. I did mount system in CWM before flashing each time. I even tried flashing an MTD FC09 stock kernel, but it still does not do the CRT effect. What could be the problem? I like the effect in CM10 and TPR but with the MTD FC09's Voodoo color application, I get a green flash when I turn off my screen that I don't get with the CRT off. I know I can go to default 2.3.3 color in Voodoo, but that looks washed out. I'd like the CRT off on this ROM.
