I posted this under development, as I feel that the greatest wealth of knowledge is here. If it should be moved, I will be glad to move it to the appropriate forum.
My colleague and I are writing a program to encrypt SMS using the RSA protocol. The program will be available to the XDA Community and is nearing completion (deadline in one week). The UI front-end uses WebView, and the RSA back-end uses Python. Regardless.
Our problem comes in the form of communicating the keys. A peer-to-peer protocol would be ideal, and setting up a server is impractical. Even a method to associate a phone through a network address would be helpful. If anybody has any ideas, please post below.
All contributions will be recognized through comments in the code! =)
Thank you in advance.
This doesn't seem atrix specific.. you should open this thread in android development in the very top
Look into diffie hellman key exchanges. The most common way to do it. That's how ssl does it.
Thank you very much, I apologize for posting in the Atrix forums...I use them so regularly that I didn't even think about it.

The site has running costs and donations are needed to pay the costs. Donations to XDA-Dev can be made by clicking on the Donate button on the brown bar near the top of the page. (Same bar that has the User CP, Search and Log out buttons.) But here's a link anyway: http://forum.xda-developers.com/donations.php
Any donations to individual members are entirely up to you. The principle we have is that members do not act for financial reward. If however a member makes an outstanding contribution or if you think they could do more but perhaps due to lack of equipment they can't - then you might make a donation to an individual

Is it possible for the [search forum]/[search this thread]/[search wiki] buttons on this site to be linked to google directly instead of the current situation?
I would hazard a guess that most folks are searching for older threads to check for answers to their (duplicate) questions and such, users should be able to see newer posts without searching at all.
Thanks
I know the site Admin has been working on the search functions in the hunt for improvements to be made. This I think is on-going but perhaps we'll get an update in a couple of days.

The problem is that is an absolutely mammoth task. There are thousans of threads and tens of thousands of posts. It is also complicated as the posts are often inter-related and deleting one leaves others hanging and not making much sense.
The idea is that the WIKI is the place for confirmed answers and tested solutions. Every member has a duty I believe, to spot things in the forums that have reached a sensible answer to problems and then go and create a section in the WIKI that cuts out all the chit chat and offers the edited solution in a neat condensed form. So yes, some forums do end up messy, but they are the talking shop, the WIKI is intended to be the tidy area for concise answers/solutions.
Not enough members take on this responsibility - the Mods are volunteers and there is only one day to day Admin. The Mods are generally kept busy with reported posts and squabbles of one sort or another and spotting the odd thing as they browse.
So if folk have a particular interest in a certain area, or have followed a problem from start to final answer, then get to grips with the WIKI and add a section that gives the refined solution.

I seem to be having a lot of email discussions recently between groups of people. Having such discussions over email obviously has some big disadvantages compared to discussion forums.
What I need is a website that will allow me to create an ad-hoc discussion topic and limit it to a closed group of people. Ideally this will be achieved by having an obscure URL to the topic such that people do not need to register and its simply a case of sharing the URL (similar to how you can share private YouTube videos or Picasa albums).
Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Yeah. But the service is still in Beta. From the track record of the company though, it'll never leave BETA.
It's called Google+
Ok, it's not a fully functional discussion forum but I managed to find this website which seems to a workable solution: http://www.quicktopic.com

Thanks for the links but I'm not sure why this is different from any other forum site. It doesn't appear to allow me to setup a private discussion topic. Have I missed something on those sites?
To the Mods who insist on closing what they consider "banned" threads:
Please consider the large portion of users of certain ROMs that are no longer in development due to issues beyond users' control. It is not their fault that a Dev decided to do something stupid. Discussions on these ROMs is necessary to help our community work to make our phones better. By not allowing any discussions at all on this, you are pretty much screwing all of us. I implore you to please reopen those closed threads and/or allow discussion on all ROMs that may or may not have been "tainted" by certain issues with "bad" developers. Thanks.

The person who released the rom was banned and accused of scamming xda users. Why would xda want to support that by allowing discussion of his work? I believe xda recommends removing his work, or seek support elsewhere.
By allowing discussion and support of these ROMs, we would be allowing people to be possibly exposed to malicious software. We do not know what, if anything could have been added to the ROMs so it is safer to just remove them all together. It is apparent that the intent was malicious and we do not want any further issues to arise from it. Also, we might be subjected to some backlash from the "developer" because it is his work, and he could say or could have already said we are not allowed to use it or support it.
Something that people fail to realize is there is a method to the madness. It's better to be safe than sorry.

With all due respect, I was, in no way suggesting supporting such ROMs or devs, nor did I mention any such thing. I am merely recommending that discussion of them should be allowed with regards on what to do now that they are no longer supported. I fully understand the implications of what bad things could happen, however a blanket "all discussions are banned - period!" is not good, and I think discussion is necessary to move on and away from potentially bad ROMs and evil devs. Just my $.02

I was scammed, I have seen some of the evidence and I agree with the actions xda took.
I wish I had detected the scam sooner. I wish xda had detected it sooner.
I wish I could redirect my donations to a legitimate developer. To me, donations partially compensate for what I cannot yet contribute technically.
I feel stupid and abused by an individual who had no business being here.
Part of what I do is complex embedded firmware and dsp coding. My credits go back as far as the Air Communicator (1995). One of the first integrated cellular data phones.
I join Institutions of knowledge and teaching like xda to learn and improve my tools. Organizations like xda can be destroyed by injecting Comercial schemes where they do not belong.
Altruistic donations to legitimate developers have no doubt been harmed at a minimum.
At some point I will begin developing for the Android platform as well. I hope xda will still be there when I can give back what the community has contributed to me.
My pressing near term question is where can I learn how to safely get off the knoxraid 5.6 platform?
Not that I am qualified to run it, but may I respectfully suggest a thread on how to move off this rom and onto a legitimate developer's work.
I propose the objective would be ONLY moving off, support of Knoxraid would be forbidden.
Respectfully submitted for your consideration,
Kent Kernahan

There is a new KK ROM available and another soon to pop up. All you do is upgrade your SS to the latest that supports KK now with and flash one of those ROMs.

I think what should be done is that a mod should create a stickied thread to be monitored closely, including instructions for how to move from the rom in question to a safe rom. That way it spreads knowledge that the rom is unsafe, to get rid of it, and with instructions to replace so people arent floundering
There is an easy method. Revert to MJ5 thread.
There does not need to be a discussion or a thread involved. It is that simple. The thread is located in the general section.
There are other methods, like what I said above as well. Why do we need a dedicated thread?

You have a point, but the only reason i make the suggestion is that you and I both know damn well no one reads anything but the first post of any thread lol. It may not require an actual thread for discussion (as, there indeed is nothing to be discussed further on the topic), but maybe at least a closed sticky to serve as a public service announcement that will grab peoples eye before they go posting 9 million more annoying threads or responses to irrelevant threads asking about it.
---------- Post added at 09:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:27 PM ----------
actually I have a better idea. what if a mod were to edit the thread in the dev section to say something along the lines of "this developement no longer supported by XDA, we suggest moving to another rom/etc here are the current threads for instructions"

I implore you to explain to me how, without the developer, discussion of your issues will lead to a resolution?
He is not allowed here and after being banned, as such neither are his works. This isn't unusual and he was not singled out.
Especially in this instance, where he was scamming users for money for devices that he later sold for, you guessed it, even more money...
Users are not being punished by us closing the threads, they're being protected from further abuse and scams. If you're looking to give your money away, I know of a lot of deserving charities that will actually put it to good use.
So, sorry but his threads will remain closed, and this one will also.

Hi all XDA Tasker users!
Today I come with a proposal to begin with a new platform to start collecting profiles and different configurations, everything to have them all more at hand and in one place.
The method that will be used to get the profiles, tasks or projects, by now, will be through a short Google Form questionnaire, perfectly guided. At the same time, as the contributions are received, they will be reviewed and classified as aptly as possible to make their search as easy and intuitive as possible.
So, here you have:

This sounds like an excellent idea.......but sadly, not too many experienced Tasker users patrol this Sub-Forum here at XDA. I would recommend you post this topic all around the web in various Forums if you plan to get some real power. Here are some suggestions of more Active Tasker Communities.
1. Google+ pages. Not sure exactly where...but I know Google+ has quite a few active Tasker communities.
2. The official Tasker Google Group page. This is the primary Tasker community where the Tasker dev actually keep up with.
3. The AutoApps forums. Many Tasker users actively read those forums and would probably help support this effort.
4. Large threads on XDA which are about Tasker. For example, the Utter! thread on XDA seems to be an extremely active Tasker community.
Thank you for your help and suggestions! I will take a look.
Sorry users, but Y decided to stop the project by the moment. All submmits received will are stored until the project gone active again.
Ok guys, the site is almost ready. It won't become fully online until (February 06, 2017).

Just import it to Tasker. Quick guide:
1. Unzip the file (.rar)
2. Extract the 'xxx.prf.xml' and copy it to (sdcard/Tasker/profiles)
3. Open Tasker and single tap on above Profile tab (where are Profile, Task, Scene, Variable)
4. Select option 'Import', and and internal browser will be open.
5. You will see there the file you just copied before to 'profiles' folder, so select it and you are done!
Note: I will upload a tutorial to do so on TPC.
Thanks for collecting and publishing the profiles. It's perfect to get fresh ideas for new projects.
Just a small note regarding the website: Could you please change the blogspot template to display the date of the article as well? It only displays the time which is kinda confusing, making it impossible to say whether this is an old or new post.
Thanks!

Hi,
Your site is marked as unsafe because the SSL certificates don't match the domain name:

It now gives a warning in for example Chrome.
Suppose you would like to get that fixed.

Hi, today, after 6 years, I discovered XDA University and I wanted to try to read something about developing ROMS and all of the stuff published on the website. However, the link doesn't work, since Firefox says: "This page can't redirect correctly." I tried with Chrome, even Edge (it says that the page isn't reachable), but nothing. Obviously I cleared cache, cookies and all of the things requested by the browser to try to access it.
Is the project of the university died, with the domain, or it's only an issue?
Thanks in advice for info.
