which gingerbread rom is this?

Hey saw this Vid, wondering what rom and kernel he is running, if anyone knows which they are please let me know. thanks

first off this a tech demo and not a stable day to day use rom. You will not be able to use this normally on the phone (reagular reboots and instability) it was simply a taste of gingerbread for some devs here. I would highly recommend not flashing especially since you aren't really experienced yet. You should flash one of the many stable roms in the dev section, but if you insist on it, here is the thread for it:

i tried dling this rom and installing from clockwork recovery as a zip and it says it installed and takes me right back to the original rom i started with. also is there a kernel i should flash to make things more stable. thanks

I'm pretty sure you have to flash the 2.3 kernel for it to boot into gb. But as joeshmoe said, it isn't a good idea if you aren't experienced (I bricked a capivate trying to get this to work, seriously, it isn't a good idea). There's plenty of great froyo roms out and some nice gb themes, I'd recommend just taking that route.

is there no way back from bricking a captivate? its actually not a daily so i wouldnt mind a couple of features not working, i want the old tv lock screen!!! I'm using darkys rom right now its great, as fast as anything could ever be but the home button doesnt vibrate and like the stock gingerbread little tweaks

Serendipity is basically as close to AOSP Gingerbread as is available right now.

Anyone know when cm7 for cappy will be released

As far as we know, its not even being developed yet for the Captivate.

It *is* being developed for the Captivate, but not on a native Captivate kernel. The reorient, headphone, button fixes are native to the i9000 port when it detects the hardware as a Captivate.

hey serendipity is great been using it for the past few days but this is a spare phone im just messing with. can someone link me to a walkthrough to install this rom because installing with clockwork isnt working for this rom

Don't flash it. Seriously. Codeworkx/Coolya were digging through the source, and the nexus s kernel source has differing voltages than the galaxy s. ie, it can actually destroy parts of your hardware. Wait a couple of weeks, the rc for CM7 should be out by then.

well i dont plan to use the rom long term just wanted to flash to it and mess with it then probably switch back to a froyo rom shortly after. but having an issue getting it to run. if i download a kernel with voodoo and run the lagfix to ext4 then flash the rom should that get it up and running?
edit: went ahead and flashed perception and then the rom, reboots constantly, so looks like ill go back to perception and tough it out with a gingerbread theme. Gonna miss that lock animation.... ok now anyknow know how i get back to recovery mode, or do i have to flash back to stock? and reroot?
edit2: dont flash this rom, waste of time, just play with your friends nexus S, back to serendipity

[Q] Bootloaders and clockwork questions

I am running Continuum V5 RC3. Obviously I have CWM3 and the GB bootloaders. My questions are and Im looking for detail if you have it.....
1) Continuum thread lists one of the safe ways to go back to stock as

this doesnt contain the GB or Froyo bootloaders so what is the deal with running froyo OS and the GB bootloaders? Is this perfectly safe meaning now that I am on GB bootloaders I should never have to concern myself with bootloaders again (until the next OS comes out) and I can use these bootloaders for GB and Froyo?
2) If I want to change to CM7, would I need to flash back to the old bootloaders or would the current bootloaders be ok?
3) CMW v3 versus v2.5...is there any reason to care? I realize that the scripts themselves are different but I havent seen this so far as anything but an inconvience.

Anyone?

Going to gingerbread (except CM7 and MIUI) requires a full wipe, via Odin, and new bootloaders. The bootloaders are where the risk lies, if something goes wrong you can brick your phone. Because of this you can go to gingerbread from any ROM running any version of android.

Yes, flashing stock gingerbread with odin it will overwrite it. So it's just like flashing to stock eclair with odin one click lol if you couldn't do that from another rom you would never be able to get to stock. Also Flashing stock gingerbread has the Exact same risk involved as odin one click. So if you've used that before it's not the panic inducing, palm sweating the entire time, ordeal some people make it out to be.

[Q] Easiest way to get HSUPA

I'm running the stock Gingerbread I got from Odin one click on my captivate. I really want to enable HSUPA, but I don't have the skills you guys have, and it seems you have to make a lot of changes to the phone and use an i9000 Rom. Is there an Odin one click out there that will just flash everything, or is there a step by step guide somewhere? As I said, sorry if I sound dumb, but I'm not used to doing all the steps that seem to be needed.

Yes you need an. I9000 modem /kernel combination to enable hspa its only a couple of steps to install read the I9000 rom ops they should all have instructions on how to flash them...which usually consists of a full version of odin flash to stock gingerbread, an odin flash of a re oriented kernel with cwm baked in it, and then finally the rom flash in cwm...
But at this point, just flash a kernel with odin that has cwm and then flash an I9000 rom in recovery since you already have gingerbread bootloaders...

The instructions are fairly clear, but if you have something you're stuck on go to the Mosaic thread in the Q&A section. Make sure you understand what you need to do before you try to flash. A lot of folks get into trouble by trying it before they understand.
But as Studacris said, the tread post has all you'll need

Did it! I'm free of ATT! The stock ginger is fine for me! The speed is much better! Only 3 things.
1. Is there a fix for the home button?
2. No more USB mass storage mode?
3. How to root.
I'm not going to mess with any custom roms yet. I'm very, very happy.
Found the home button fix! Clockwork mod is great! As are these forums!

settings, wireless and networks, usb mode, usb mass storage
flash the attached to root, assuming you have flashed a reoreinted kernel with cwm baked in

I followed the instructions for the HSUPA, and nothing seems to be broken, but my question is.... is there anything i can see in the settings of the phone that show the dl of the I9000 kernel took?

I love all the work everyone does!

Installed the Reoriantated I9000. Rooted. Then, installed the kc1 modem, or, as I am now fondly calling it, the modem on crack. . HOLY ****! Getting like 2MB down and 1.5MB up. Before, about 512k down and like 30k up! ATT is an absolute disgrace for what they did to this wonderful phone. It doesn't even seem like the same phone anymore. More responsive in every way, no bloatware, and almost 4G like internet! Seriously, non-Iphone users should band together for a class action lawsuit. We shouldn't have to go through this Hell to make hardware work the way it was meant to.
Too tired to mess with other roms, but sure as hell used clockwork to back this one up! Thanks for all the help and patience again.
Oh, one last thing. I have the Odin one click for ATT stock. If I ever need warranty, will that one flash bring everything back to the ATT garbage?

[Q] Rogers stock Froyo to ICS. Some questions?

I've currently got Rogers stock 2.2 Froyo running on my i896. I rooted it and replaced the 3e recovery with the modified recovery so I can run CWM Recovery on it. I also unlocked the phone by modifying the nv_data.bin file.
Now I want to upgrade to ICSSGS. A few questions:
1) Should I first upgrade using Kies to Rogers 2.3.3? What ill effects, if any, will that have to my 3e recovery, my nv_data.bin unlock, and the root?
2) What system files should be backed up before upgrading to ICS custom ROM? EFS files, etc?
3) Is it possible to go straight from Froyo to ICS? The ICSSGS installation instructions mention requiring Gingerbread.

Don't bother with kies.
No need to go to gingerbread first, and going to stock gingerbread will undo you're 3e replacement and root.
just flash ics from froyo.
It's always recommended to have multiple backups of your /efs folder in several locations.

I've read that people have a lot better results if they go to cm7 first, then go upgrade to ics. Since almost everything is based on team hacksung.(Cm9 I would go to that ics first.

Why would that be though? Any logical explanation to that theory?

Well my guess is that because cyanogen has done cm7 so well and stable. most ics builds are based on their work with cm9. It's kind of just a natural progression.
I've also read some dev's suggest doing it this way.
Also I did it this way and have had almost none of the problems that other people have.
I've never had a sleep, or charge death. Never had the data data bug. Never had the data signal bar always full bug.

actually it used to be part of the instructions to flash CM7 first.
CM7 CM9 and ICS use a different partitioning table and call partitions by different names, CM7 used to be the only one, and has a conversion script.
now most of the more popular ICS base roms include the conversion script.
read the instructions for each ICS you look at.
some have no requirements but CWM, some require flashing CM7 or any other ICS rom first.
coming from pure stock froyo you want to flash a CWM3 kernel with odin, then reboot to recovery and flash the ICS rom off your sdcard.
read the how to flash captivate roms sticky, also found in my signature.
