[Q] Dead Flash??? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
My cousin flashed gingerbread on his gt i9000 with odin, but during the process odin said there is an error and the phone just went dead. Now it wont turn on, or go into download mode with 3 button combo.
1) Is the phone bricked?
2)How can he fix it?
3) Will it go into downloadmode using a jig?
Pleassse Help!!!!!

Might be. Try pulling the battery for a while 15min and then going into download mode if possible.
If not try a jig if available but it likely won't work. After that it's time to send it in under warranty or find a shop that does jtag repairs...

If it doesn't respond to anything i.e. screen always black what ever you do, it propably is dead

Samsung Galaxy S HARD BRICKED

Hello,
I tried to flash back to the stock ROM of Galaxy S and then install a new Jetpack 8.2 custom ROM.
Apparently, since I did a bad search on the internet on finding a stock ROM and pit file, i downloaded a pack from xda with the .pit file pda file phone file and CSC file.
I DONT REMEMBER which it was..i selected all the files from the pack through odin and re-partitioning was ticked (i saw it after the flash finished).
So when the processes was completed waited a bit and since the phone was not responding i pulled it out.
Now that's it.. The screen is black - wont power on - wont go into download mode - wont show battery charge while the USB cable is on - nothing (AND YES THE BATTERY IF FULLY CHARGED).
Is there anything i can do to fix it?
p.s: havent tried a usb jig but from searches i made on the internet and on xda forums ppl said it will prolly not work. are there any instruction on how to make one (link would be appriciated)?
Thanks in advance
Best option would be to try a Jig (you can buy one on ebay or dealextreme) and see if you can go into DL mode. Sometime the button combination for Download mode changes depending on the firmware. Try pressing the middle of the volume rocker and power at the same time.
If not wait for a Jib or build yourself one. There should be instruction in this forum on how to build one.
if the jig doesn't work, i would try and return it to the store you got it. I know its a long shot, but the same thing happened to me and I brought it back and she just gave me a new phone! Its worth a shot!

Worth a try. Just tell them it suddenly stopped working and you have no idea what's wrong. It's not like they can power it on and see that you failed flashing it or something. and even if they use a jig they can only get to download mode and reflash it...
even if they say no... a jig costs like $1.5 on eBay. search for "i9000 jig".
Insert if, press the power button and poof, you're in download mode,
the thing is that the phone is not under any warranty or something and the store i got it is far away now !!
JTAG service if you're in the UK: http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/
The JIG won't work when you brick with a black screen (i.e. bootloader corruption, so no boot at all).
Your only solution is to JTAG it or sadlly, throw it away...
I used a I9003 ROM to flash it !!
Maybe there is still a solution?
also from what i've found on forum sometimes the JIG helped ppl who had a black screen to go into download mode. so how can you be so sure? @ Dan_Aykroyd

As long as your bootloader is intact, the jig will get you to the download mode
Wrongly flashed i9000 with i897 rom has been confirmed to work with the jig, but i don't know i9000 with i9003 rom...
Or you can apply the unbrickable mod if your phone's warranty was voided already, if not, send it back to the shop.

Had that also yesterday putting a new ROM on my GS. The process of writing the PDA halted.. Black screen, no way to start it up en no screen indications of charging etc..
I removed it from my USB, Removed the battery a few times did the three way download mode trick several times and finally I got the download mode screen from where I successfully loaded the new ROM.
So try a few times.. even when you get a black screen !!
let me be clear once more..i downloaded a complete I9003 rom pack from xda... some guy posted..i just missed that it was I9003 and not I9000..
and on odin re-partition was clicked..but the process was completed successfully even thou after that the phone wont start or go into download mode :/
i used not only PDA and PIT files but 2 more was included as well :/ so what i am asking is if this could really have damaged the bootloader or not

Of course you're bound to brick it flashing a firmware for a phone completely different to yours...get a jig if you're confident or take it to a service centre

Try jig first.
Next try JTAG or UNBRICKABLE mod.
Then Try a service centre.
in case it wokes up.. anyone has links for stock rom and pit to flash with odin?
thanks again
There are some ways, when already got into DL mode is best to reflash with 812.pit file and then again with 512.pit file. After I bricked my phone and got "death" screen (God I was crying) I found way of taking up DL mode (hopefully SGS is pretty-hard to brick). Others than that try to connect to your phone via usb (remember to first inset usb and then battery) and hold ALL of the buttons on your phone. Screen must flash about 3 times and then release volUp to get DL mode combo. I hope that will help you as me.

Are you 100% sure the JIG wont work if bricked with a black screen. Are there any other possibilities to unbrick the phone. I really need this phone back or my dad will kill me..

[Q] My Phone is Dead, it only flashing

When i putted the phone in the download mode, then i plugged in the USB and my ODIN3 v1.00 was opened that time. I clicked on the start in the ODIN3 and after showing some processing in it, it says removed. then my phone was automatically turned of. And know whenever i start it... it just only flash the "at&t world phone" on the screen. and when i plug in the USB the at&t logo stop flashing and it goes completely black....
Please help me how to fix it...
you will need to get the phone into download mode , if the 3 button combo is not working you will need a usb jig http://www.1giftbuy.com/p-10279-i9000-i9100-micro-usb-download-mode-jig-/?currency=GBP
any other option
is there is any other option available beside using USB jig... because i heard sometime the fone totally dead after using it... there is no warranty of the recovery of the fone after using it...
Unfortunately a jig is your best option for getting download mode as far as i know. Have you tried one click unbrick in hemindal?

help bricked phone

Hi everyone. Im not normally in this section as i have an x8 but my friend has seen all the roms, mods and updates ive done so he tried to do it to his galaxy s i9000 without rooting or unlocking his bootloader. I asked him what he did he said he just tried to update software with keis but now it wont turn on just white screen with a red triangle in the middle i hope its download mode as i dont have a galaxy i dont really no but the battery has died and it wont charge im guessing hes damaged the bootloader am i right and if so whats the best corse of action to tepair it. Thanks.
You can check if it is in download mode by pluggin it in pc with odin. See the wiki page what it says about soft brick.
Soft-Bricked
After flashing a rom you might not be able to enter the Download Mode by pressing Volume Down + Home + Power. In this case a so called 'JIG' would be helpfull.
You could build it on your own: [HOWTO] [REF] Get Download Mode without 3-button combo using homemade JIG
... or buy a preassembled one on a well known marketplace.Hint: There is no difference between a JIG for Samsung S/S2 or S-Plus.
See if you can go into d0wnload mode with vol down home and power. If that works go and try to find the stock firmware for the phone and download and extract. Download odin and put csc pda and phone/modem in there rightful places. 512 pit in pit section. Pit usually comes with odin download. If not find it somewhere. Repartition checked and hit start. It should reboot when done. It will problaby take a couple of min to boot but be patient. If it starts to go into boot loop put back into download mode again and reflash. Its very hard to mess up the phone to where you cant fix it. So relax and watch tuts or whatever helps you best. I know of a link i that i will find and post for you when i do.

DEAD bricked phone
So, my friend's phone (hopefully she'll stay my friend after this) was turning itself on and off all on it's own. So I (no good deed goes unpunished) suggested that I will upgrade her firmware for her. She had 2.3.3 firmware. I downloaded the odin1.7 as well as a package of all the info for 2.3.5 firmware upgrade. I flashed the phone- originally only using the PDA option with a file called: CODE_I9000XXJVS_CL565837_REV03_user_low_ship
It worked, the phone restarted and showed the firmware as being 2.3.5.
I don't know why, but I thought it would be a good idea to update the CSC and the pit and the modem as well- so I did that. when this was finished - though odin said that the flashing was successful the phone is completely unresponsive. The computer doesn't recognize it, it doesn't show any signs of life at all- like it's in the dark ages and there is no electricity in it.
HELP!!!
First question: do you think a jig will work? how dangerous is it?
second question: is there any other option to try that I haven't come across other than changing the motherboard, and if there isn't do you know where I can get one, bear in mind I live in Israel.
Please e-mail me a copy of the response to [email protected] if you can...
Odin dosnt pick it up atall plus the batteries dead aswell now and the stupid thing wont charge so i cant evan try any thing till i find away or some one to charge it but thanks for the tips.

Try to recharge the battery from other phone or use another battery.
Check whether you have the download mode working. (Home+Power+Volume down)
If yes, put phone in download mode and flash Darky RE or any other Rom via ODIN. Try to get the recovery mod after rooting and then try ROMs.
Or try restarting the phone it may work without update also. Long press power in download mode restarts the phone. However be careful.
What is the status of the device can you go to download mode
Post your firmware files name and how you choose in the odin flasher.
Dont try anything crazy you will bricked your device more:banghead:

Alternate way to Download mode
Hi gavster26
I have been there with a buddy's phone... not a nice place.
Found a link showing this other trick ... but you have to trial and error this one on the different combos:
1. Phone off
2. USB cable pluged in
3. Odin running
4. Down (or Up - test both) Volume button + Home button + plug in the USB cable.
This booted my dead "bricked" phone into download mode.
Try it.

my SGS is bricked

here is my problem ..
i was on ics euphoria when i get some FC. i tried to get back JM9 rom using Odin3 when my phone was fall down during the operation now when i turn it on there is image of phone.../!\....pc
i don't have the download mod usb jig doesn't work and also one click or unbrickable resurrector on linux .well it seems that I'd do hardware modifications make a connection between xOM5 resistor & xOM3 or xOM0 is that true?
is there in other thing to do? i need help
Sent the Service Centre for repair if you still have your warranty. I bricked my phone twice, rooted and in custom rom and they couldn't find out as long as you have BSOD(phone.../\...pc). If you don't have warranty anymore try flashing a stock rom using odin.

Hit the thanks button,
show some appreciation.
If you can go to download mode by holding the down volume + Home Key.
Keep them pressed & turn on the phone.
If you are able to enter download mode.
Try to download a original firmware eg., ( xxjvu 2.3.x) & try to flash it with odin.
Try google & it should come up with some links to the firmware.
If you can't enter download mode try this heimdall-one-click.googlecode.com/files/OneClick.jar
Here is the youtube link
Good Luck Mate!
if everything didnt work you may do it in the hard way that is you turn off your device and take off the battery and sim card and memory card if you have one then you bring a hair dryer and put it on the hottest level then center it between the camera and the speaker for 10 seconds then quickly put the battery back and hold home+low volume+power this will put you into download mode if it didnt work the first time try again and for me , it didnt harm my phone .. i used it when my phone bricked and it didnt enter to download mode nor recovery and didnt have a jig .. hope this would help you ....
NOTE : DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK

this is a hardware issue the high temp disturbs the hardware and somehow it takes you into download mode and I swear it worked for me.
the phone reacts on resistors. so if you have a special resistor your phone turns in different modes, e.g. hard reset, schutdown, or download mode.
Thanks

Soft or Hard bricked?

Okay, so last night I did something stupid. I flashed simplicity for the s5830i...(dont ask me why i was in the 5830i forum, lack of sleep i guess)..it has a boot.img file in it (look after i flashed....soo stupid of me)..and now my s5830 will not boot...nothing on the screen. odin will see it if I hold vol down, home and power and then put in battery in...but nothing is on the screen...odin is stuck on setting up connection.
My question is am i hard bricked or would a jig work?
Hard bricked if you don't get download mode.
A jig might do the trick, try it. If thay doesn't work, SAT.
Next time don't attempt to flash a ROM when you're sleepy. I think it's a hard brick.
Hard brick.
I had a galaxy mini that I hard bricked and was same as you, if I held down buttons, Odin would recognise it but nothing on screen. I could never get it in download mode, even tried Jig thingy...
Sorry to hear that bro.

Another rip for ace just go to repair centre if your warranty is here you can repair it for free
