So, some may know I spent the last week not able to restore 2.2.2 because I could not mount /data.
I just tried it again, and then restored user data only (not user data and internal storage) and it booted. I haven't done much with it yet, but I think it should be fine.
So, after when you can't mount /data, restore user data. I feel like an idiot now, but hope this can help someone else who runs into the same problem.
Since this was a "really stupid I didn't think of it before" moment, feel free to troll me. I probably deserve it

This sort of thing is helpful for all, especially with folks new to Android and/or the DS7. Thanks for sharing.

First of all yes i SEARCHED for a answer
ok i no how to partition my sd card i have the fat32 ext4 and linux swap partition on my sd card but after that what do i do? Do i just load the hero rom and it will run smoother or should I download swapper from the market and fool around with that some.
ps. When i check my internal memory i have about 27mb
Any help will be appreciated
No you didn't search for answer and this is in wrong forum.
Yes it automatically does it on hero and it will run smoothly (for hero).
edit: just saw you said you have 27 mb internal... clear data on browser maybe? the point of apps2sd is to have higher internal memory than that lol.
Ok
1st. Of all I did search and unless you have a ****1ng camera on my computer how would you no?
But thanks any way
With an attitude like that, i would write you off real quick...best of luck with that though.
Here's what you're looking for

Ouch, another tough guy. If you searched you didn't do a very good job. Next time try using the words "linux" and "swap". There are at least a dozen threads on the subject.
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/search_rop.php?searchid=27381858

I always try not to post ... for specific reasons ... but this is funny. Everyone over at xda have been messing with swap for a long time already and it's like posted from where ever he got his ROM from. You didn't even have to search.
Your the one asking for help so don't give him an attitude man. We're here to help not to screw you over, but you gotta do your homework first.
also .... there google.com .... use it.
Just like others said, I really doubt you searched. This has been discussed many many times. Also like the other poster said you shouldn't even had to search, it should have been on the dev's main page.
Im a new poster but I been reading these forums for months and I searched for everything I needed in this forum and I found everything I needed to know.
That was your second post here and you are already talking smack. Dont expect too much help when you come here with an attitude like that.
Hello everyone I've been a member of this forum for a long while now and this is my first post. I usually am pretty good at finding what I need from other members previous posts but have yet to find anything that can help with this problem. Now I'll get to the point. I am the proud owner of a wonderful 3 month old Nexus one. Currently running Froyo Kang-o-Rama 0.9a0. I'm having trouble getting it to restore all my data, bookmarks, apps and everything else that it's supposed to restore.
How the hell do you get the backup and restore function to work? I know that it might be quite a stupid question but in some cases it has worked great for me but lately after flashing some roms it will not restore my applications and data. Does anyone have any idea what could be my problem other than the obvious (newb). Anyway thanks for any help in advance.
I dunno what I did but I followed AllDroid back when it was alive and I think I followed the moving dalvik-cache hack.
All I remember was some stuff about moving stuff around and doing mot_boot_mode.
Sorry I'm not a crazy hacker or anything but I just follow instructions and when I'm done I hope it did the job, and I never look back... theres just too much code and mumbo jumbo that my brain will explode. This was 2 months ago... or whenever Telus 2.1 came out.
Well today Iw as playing in root explorer and looking at /data/dalvik-cache and it looks like theres 94mb of stuff there. Huh? I thought it got all moved to /cache ?? I looked in /cache, and it looked like 94mb of stuff was there.
So it looks like Dalvik-cache moved in my case, but does this mean the original is still there and needs to be wiped for me to free up that space?
And I spent all afternoon googling Dalvik-Cache and Milestone, and there seems to be no guide out there anymore. I don't even know if what I did worked. It seems like such an obscure topic now that the old AllDroid is gone
Hi,
Im the maker of that script
If you look at the script, the original dalvikcache will be removed, then symlink to one in /cache

Caveat: I am a noob and tried to search first but got too many conflicting threads which did not entirely apply to my phone as far as I could understand. Please no flaming if I am beating a dead horse. I swear the horse died before I started beating it.
You may have read my recent thread where I had asked about how to fix my g1 which was sold to me and the rom crashed leaving it "soft bricked".
Since it was taking so long and I got a good deal on it, I went ahead and bought the Samsung Galaxy S. While waiting for this phone to ship, I have fixed the G1 through the unlocker website's guide for one click rooting.
I started to begin the sign in process after re-rooting the phone with unlocker's generic mod but then thought better since my phone would sync.
My question is since I have gone through the unlocker website's process to re-root the phone, is there any personal info left on the phone that I should remove and how would I do that?
Would it be better, if by re-rooting the phone it wipes all info, to sell it as is?
Should I jail break it and sell it and therefore get more for it?
Should I keep the the sd card?
The phone is in good condition with only minor damage to the sides from dropping it, a screen protector and worked perfectly when I signed in on the original platform.img and I have two batteries for it; the double size and original and two backs and one protective case which I could not put on the larger backing of the larger battery which I should have looked harder for one to fit it eliminating the aesthetic scuffs on the side.
All advice is appreciated; thanks guys.
P.S. I will resist messing with the Samsung or at least backup more often b/c I lost a lot of buisness info when the G1 crashed. Although, I have already applied the GPS fix...it was on cnet for goodness sakes, how could I resist?
Just wipe and reflash any rom... No user data will be left...

NOT TRUE!!!!!
Wiping ***DOES NOT*** clear data!
In fact, wiping ONLY clears the FIRST 128 KB of the partition selected for wipe!
If you want to do a proper wipe, you should wipe (also called FORMAT) both the userdata and cache partitions from RECOVERY, mount them in their usual spots, and run "dd if=/dev/zero of=/data/zerofile; dd if=/dev/zero of=/cache/zerofile; sync; rm /data/zerofile /cache/zerofile -f". This line in quotes will write a ZERO to EVERY LOCATION within both the cache and userdata partitions, ensuring that the data is there but not visible, is obliterated.
Re poll question:
Jailbreak that mofo
-- can't break out of a jail that never existed. ANDROID DOES NOT USE CHROOT JAILS.
Keep it rooted, buyers like no assembly required
-- and idiots screw themselves up when they don't know what they're doing....
Vanillarize it/keep it stock; would you buy a toyota home modified into a racecar
-- the meaning of this option is partially indecypherable. I assume you mean "make it stock". Would you really, as a decent human being, lock the buyer out of accessing the device that they legitimately own and have the right to use as they wish?
Jailbreak it and keep it rooted because people like a little coke in their weed
-- again, you can't break out of a jail that does not exist and never has!
You forgot the option to install a stock ROM along with an ENGINEERING BOOTLOADER. If they don't know what they're doing, they won't as likely screw it up. If they DO know what they're doing, they'll be able to use it.

No I don't mean lock them out. I mean installing the STOCK/OEM/INCLUDED IN EVERY BOX platform. I don't understand where you are getting this "lock them out" idea; your first post helpful; your second post a little asidic. Drop the Ph a little. Vanilla has a boring connotation like the stock software which is nothing fancy but nice and safe. Perhaps analogies, metaphors and a touch of misunderstood humor goes over your head. I would add some ad hominem speculation as to why you are speaking so but whatever you are irritated about allow me to quote the Beatles, "Let it be". I would want a little more use out of someone with 2000+ posts as a forum is only as good as its leaders.

Your poll is meaningless in the Android world. You talk about both "root" and "jailbreak" as if they are two different things. One doesn't mean anything. lbcoder was trying to help you understand the thing you're trying to sell.

Uggh, notice how I did not reply to his advice except for reverting it to stock and "locking" out the consumer; I found that "indecypherable" but that was much more an issue with tone than the advice itself. Maybe American technology slang is different or I am using it improperly. I don't know which so, to all, if jailbreak is meaningless to you then forget it and please just keep the thread to advice on what you would do. Thanks.

Look, very simple:
IF you install the stock garbage that comes with the phone, then you ARE LOCKING THE PURCHASER OUT because it will then need to be HACKED to gain proper access.
Also: If YOU do not understand the meaning of certain terms, DO NOT USE THEM!
JAIL has NOTHING to do with ROOT.
JAIL is NOT USED on Android AT ALL.

move the rom, gapps, and supersu over from a computer to your phone, then flash it in twrp. put your phone into recovery, then move them into your phone.
I'm a noob to this stuff so is there any thread with a tutorial or video explaining on how I can do this?

I don't think so, as this is the very basic thing that you should learn before you ever flash anything or before you root your device.
there are several ways you can transfer files, adb push is one, or you can just transfer them over using an option in twrp.
If you can't even drag and drop a file to your phone you shouldn't be flashing roms, this is pretty simplistic and basic... I try to help people but this gets really old everyday its the same thing over and over, sorry for my rant or sounding like a total d*#k!

Ive been on here since 2010,I just don't post every time somebody needs something,I let others chip in. Bit you have to admit how many times do you login and see the same thing day after day.
1. He bought the phone with cm13 on it already and is a noob and doesn't know how or
2 he installed cm13 on his own but accidentally deleted the os which means he's done it before but automatically forgot how to do it again
Again sorry to op I'm being mean tonight!

i actually used to agree with you completely, in 2013 i was fed up with the same questions over and over and over again. then something happened to me that let me see past being fed up. i guess something like seeing the light. ive been nothing but very nice with newbies since. i do see people asking questions over and over again, that should know what they are doing. it those people ill get on, and wont be nice sometime
Anyways to answer your question do as Simms said
1.boot to twrp
2. Plug device to pc
3. After downloading rom, gapps, and SuperSU drag and drop from pc to your nexus 6
4. In twrp click install and install rom, gapps, and SuperSU
5. reboot and if twrp asks to install super user select no
6. Profit!!!
I'll be blunt here.
I have no patience for people looking for a handout. If a noob comes to this forum, does their research beforehand, and then encounters a problem, I'm more than willing to help them out. They at least are trying to learn how to do things on their own.
I place great value on self-reliance, and will reward the self-reliant with as much help as I can provide, within the limits of my experience. The OP on the other hand is on their own. Unlike the self-reliant person, the OP didn't bother to do their homework before attempting to mess around with their device, and on encountering a problem that could have been solved with a simple search, hit XDA Developers for help after the fact.
An increasing number of noobs aren't even bothering to read and understand what they are doing, because they are under the illusion that rooting is somehow cool or will grant them instant street cred. Rooting, as anyone with half a brain knows, is serious business. One wrong step and your shiny new device could become a shiny new paperweight. So, if the OP is unwilling to help themselves through simple research, how will giving the answer to them teach them anything?

100% agree, thumbs up. I have said this before on here but I think an admin. Deleted it, I don't think anybody reads anything anymore they just want somebody to do it for them
