all the pictures are blurry and the videos taken with the camera stops eventually for half a second (I guess this is because of the stock sdcard).
Is there any possibility to improve the camera performance to get clean pictures?
Thank you in advance,
Haitzo
I've no problem with my camera (good picture) or for video recording (except strange ration for 720p).
I think it's maybe your LG black who has defect ?
I agree with guyTam
I mean with not good light conditions, all the pictures are blurry. I have read the same problem on other users. The video issue is probably because of the stock sd card.

That's with all phone cameras. They only work in perfect conditions. Sensor is too small for quality photo taking. Maybe with some Carl Zeiss, yes, you will get some nice looking photos.
Does that happen when you take landscape photos or with closer objects too?
I had similar problems with video recording but since started to use NOVA ROM, I don't any more. I have stock SD card.
No problems taking photos to landscapes, just in interiors and night pictures. I am using Pays rom, do you recommend me using nova? I am reading the thread and I thinks is still a little bit buggy?
Thank you
They both work better than stock. Tried both, I like Nova ROM more because of longer (by a lot) battery life. I don't play games so I don't know if they perform different speed wise. There is some bug with SD card but that's all.
If there will be some update for camera app, it will be from LG in next update (I hope). I don't think that anyone else can make any tweaks for stock app. Maybe some other app with filters like unsharp mask in Photoshop could do the trick.

that's what i've noticed also... whenever i take videos and play them on the phone's video player, it looks fine, but when i transfer it to my laptop it looks kinda weird.
btw, the 5mp camera takes very nice stills. best one i had so far.
yeah because the lens sensor is too small; ƒ, shutter speed, can't be compared to real camera & the preview is only 4 inches resized to 800x480 obviously it looks good on phone, for excellent result you may not move/shake at all while taking a shot (if it possible, use a tripod). if the outdoor light is not enough... it can't be helped. ISO adjustment just makes your result even worse. here the example for outdoor shot from my phone:

the aspect ratio of the videos recorded needs to be fixed, im surprised that LG hasn't fixed this after so long.
would be epic if devs managed to fix this before LG does

I agree this one....the video format should be mp4.
I dont know what I did, But i just installed the stock rom after removing Nova. And surprisingly, the camera is taking awesome clicks. No speed lags for shutter/review. Aspect ratios seem fine for videos. And the video quality is amazingly improved.
Did someone just mention that Nova has better battery life ? What about pays ? hows the battery life on that ?

That macro pics are very good, I'm beginning to think that the initial photos that werent as good as paul(modaco) samples was because of not holding the camera firmly until photo was done... isnt it?... I'm talking about imag0005, imag0006...
Nice pictures and good quality (focus/resolution).
A scan of a letter would be a other good indicator for the macro function (focus/resolution).
Maybe you can take one more photo of e.g. an advertising letter
or of a journal/magazine with text?
Thanks!

I must say that kind of keyboard is really convenient, I was using Nokia E61 for almost 2 months as a primary phone, and actually I liked it. But I'm back on board with WM platform.
Btw. I've uploaded example video - sorry for rotation, I did it from a mobile holder in my car. I've also uploaded close-up of texts, as requested - a little blurry tough, I should have done them from more distance.
the video looks really good... the macro shots... maybe there wasnt enought light, this phone cameras have a big shutter lag, this is the time since you press de button and the photo is really done, then, it is really important to hold steady the "camera" till the photo is on screen..
Thanks for your photos again!!

Quite impressive for a cameraphone. I can't believe what I'm seeing actually.
Although http://klamstwo.org/evad/stuff/kaiser/samples/IMAG0039.jpg shows that the debayering algorithm used by the phone is CRAP. "maze" patterns like those seen in the sky are a known issue with the simpler interpolation algorithms. Has anyone created a camera app for HTC phones that can save raw sensor data to be given to an application such as dcraw?

The slide-out keyboard has major form factor advantages (phone is smaller and keys are larger), but there are plenty of times I miss my Treo 650's non-slideout "always-there" keyboard, especially when dialing.
Palm has stagnated a lot, but the one thing where they are way ahead is in terms of "non-stylus" operation. Strange that there is a Smartphone Edition of Windows Mobile but many of its improvements are not in the version for phones with a touchscreen.

One more. I did tweaked parameters a bit.
Ok, So the camera's 3.2 mega pixel and the video recorder records pretty low res.
Would it be possible to edit the recorder so that it can record higher res/better quality?
Or is there any apps or console commands to change this
Unfortunatly the camera is very poor and nothing will fix it. Thats all there is too it.

I actually have to agree with this as I've had the G600 and that camera SUCKED no matter what PhoneArena says. I noticed i would only use the G1 for pictures so i got rid of the 600

Ok you must not be able to read.
I'm not asking about quality of the camera.
Im asking if its at all possible to make video RECORDING better or higher res.
And what do you mean by nice fake?
If ur implying the pictures fake, Its not at all fake and was taken by my g1.
It depends alot on bandwidth of memory in the device. I dont know if it is possible right now to make a better/higer quality video recorder. If Google creates API's that take advantage of the full potential of the graphics chips we may get a better camcorder app.
I updated to hero and it seems to have a bit better video recording
but thats because of the codec it uses.

Seriously, read the freaking thread before saying something stupid.
As for the question, I'm sure a developer could create a new app for higher resolution video recorder because it has been done on other devices. Try requesting it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446769

post removed, misunderstood question
No, and the reason is:
A still camera has a longer exposure time and can dedicate more light overtime for each picture. A video has to a expose an image 30 times a second, so in order to expose properly the camera must take many pixels from the ccd and group them together as 1 pixel reducing image size for video. (I could be done by reducing FPS, but that will only go so far.)
And there is also issues with video format standards and the G1 ability to play back video to consider as well.
Heck, even my Canon 5D Mark II can only record video at 1/10th of the resolution it captures still images at. It does video at 1920x1080 or 2,073,600 pixels, whereas still images are captured at 5616x3744 or 21,026,304 pixels.
I think people expect far too much from a phone that has a camera that probably cost $15 to manufacture (the camera part - not the whole phone).
No I dont exspect it to do better i just wondering if it could.
Ok guy's I wanted to start a poll regarding the camera quality since 4.4.2.
I love my nexus 5 but I found the camera when it was stock 4.4 was impressive even in low light with the flash, However because so many people were complaining about the speed of it taking shots (it didn't bother me as long as it took nice photo's) Now google have responded with 4.4.2 and speeded the camera shot process however the image quality has reduced by some margin even in well lit area's,
So basically this is a poll to gauge who wants to take better quality photo's or faster photo's
Personally I couldn't care less how long it took as long they were good quality photo's...
Makes me glad I got the phone about the same time 4.4.2 came out
Requesting new poll option: Use a different camera app and be able to do both. No need to be limited by the automatic settings.

I for one am not updating to 4.4.1, or 4.4.2. I have no complaints with the release software. Who gives a **** about how good the stock photos are. If you care even marginally about image quality then you should know how to properly edit a photo. Simple as that. I love this phone.
Day shots are as good as before, night shots are worse, more noise and it's just not impressive anymore. I'd take the slower shutter for night shots anytime, and keep the new behavior for daylight shots.

That's exactly my point, I was extremely happy with stock 4.4, Camera was fine and video's were great so I'm gauging who prefers quality over speed of shots.
Question ? When your in the market for a compact camera what is end users primary concern ? How good the images are ? Or how fast it take shots ? Exactly point proved and judging from the results of the poll so far looks like I'm not alone either.

Agreed, they boosted the ISO because they increase the shutter speed in low light thus images turns up pretty noisy. What's the point of having OIS when it can't use it? It's better to have slower shutter and low ISO to make the image sharper and less noise in dark environment, just make the OIS more aggressive, come on Google don't fail me now
I came from the HTC One and iPhone 5s. I dumped both for the N5 that I purchased used that was already updated to 4.4.2.
The noise level is way too high. Day or night. Focus issues are still present. What's worst is that I can never get a clean, clear shot. I don't even want to transfer the images taken from the N5 to the computer because I know it will be a lot worse than what I see on my phone.
I purchased Camera Awesome. Didn't do anything to help with the issue. Does anyone else have any suggestions as to a better app to use? Or a mod for a previous version?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I prefer faster shots. With 4.4 I almost went nuts... especially in dark areas it was almost impossible to focus. So for me I accept the 5% worse quality and get 100% faster shots.
Very impressed with day shots, have yet to try a night shot, but I did notice the screen was much darker.

Whatever they did to the camera they need to revert it. All photos shouldn't look like they were taken with an ISO of 800.
EDIT: It's worse than I thought. A relatively bright photo = ISO 1336.
I prefer the quicker photo's. I don't need a camera to take pictures of my dinner or a flower. Anyone who has kids is definitley enjoying the update.
If you look through the picture thread here the majority of the pics are people's food. I don't really need to keep a picture journal of what I eat. lol
The Xperia T is an amazing phone. Coming from an HTC Sensation, it seems like an improvement in almost all aspects:
1. The svelte matte design is definitely an improvement with excellent weight distribution.
2. Faster Processor
3. More RAM and more Internal Space
4. NFC
5. Official support till 4.3
Having said all that, the camera is a bit of a disappointment. For me, I find the current pictures overexposed and no saturation in colors, with lots of noise. (The noise is unbelievable) The algorithm compresses the pictures a little too much. I expected better from a 13 megapixel camera and that too from Sony.
In my Sensation with its 8MP camera, I am using an AOSP 4.2 release, whose camera apk allows me to select picture quality and I set it to Super. The resulting pictures are larger in size (4.0 MB - 5.69MB) but a joy to see with wonderful exposure balance and no noise in morning shots. I tried the same with Xperia T, but even when selecting Super or using Stock Rom, the camera is still not working up to par. I have tested the Xperia T camera on stock, OmniRom and CM Roms
I was just wondering, is this hardware limitation or the software/kernel is to blame?
Hope to hear from all on this. Thank you.

I can also recommend Camera MX, as it does not only provide a very potent image editor featuring HDR and probably everything else you desire, but also lets you scale your desired image encoding quality completely freely from 0 to 100 (which is basically what every camera mod does).
Also, this camera app makes our phones able to even create 16:9 images at 13MP, unlike the stock 4:3 format at this resolution.

But all these are just tricks, that have very little in common with quality improvement. You can't produce a 13MP 16:9 photo when the phone sensor is 13MP at 4:3. It's only an interpolation, I can aswell make a software that will create 1000MP image from our phones, but the image quality will be questionable at least
As for the question, you can alyways try different settings/scenes. Also you might have faulty unit with bad camera, post the photos you believe are poor and we might be able to help.
Also, Sony last years have been pretty bad at camera quality. I say it's hardware, camera in Xperia T is not bad, but it ain't awesome either. Just have a look at this comparison from GSMArena, both pics scaled to 8MP, you can clearly see that HTC Sensation is superior.

Here's the information on my current version and also here is a video showing the issue.
This issue only occurs when shooting in 4K. When shooting in 1080p it's absolutely fine. Which makes me think it's a software issue. I've tried resetting the camera app, clearing cache and data etc. But nothing seems to help. Is anyone else having this issue, or does anyone know a fix for it?
I've only just got the phone and finished setting it all up and when testing the camera I noticed this.
Here's another video showing the issue of shooting video using the 3x camera in 4K. As well as showing that it doesn't occur when shooting in 1080p. As some people thought it was due to low light.

It happens when using UHD 30 in 16:9 and starting recording in 1x, then switching to 3x to zoom in. When shooting in FHD it doesn't happen though.

The other weird thing is that it doesn't happen when using UHD 30 in Full instead of 16:9 either
Not sure what is wrong here? If it is the blurriness and lack of focus when zoomed then that is normal as the 3x is too close to the subject to focus.
No issue here, in particular when I verify ability camera to focus at 3x in advance and adjus the minimum distance between object (also a watch with illuminating dial at dark wooden table) and S21U camera (G998B).
If I start too close, no good focus thus bit blurry at 3x, but no lighting issue.
My guess is that the lighting conditions in shown video are just too dim.
It's too dark and you are too close to the object for the 3x to focus properly.
The 3x has a tighter aperture and it takes in much less light than the 1x. It is only meant to be used in well lit scenarios and also not as close as you have it.
You also say it works if you shoot in FHD, so if you can also make the same video with the EXACT same conditions, do it and show us.
I've added another video to the first post now showing a comparison between the 4K and 1080p videos. Also shoot in low light to show that it's not due to that.

It's too dark and you are too close to the object for the 3x to focus properly.

I wonder if it's just an Exynos issue perhaps then.
Exynos S21U, no such issue here

I think you can mark your issue as solved and I will tell you why.
The reason that it looks fine on FHD, is because the phone does NOT switch to the 3x camera when you press the button. Since you are recording at 1080, it just crops the image smoothly. While at 4K it switches cameras and since you are too close to your object, the 3x camera does not manage to Focus. You can test this by putting your finger infront of the camera and see.
I would advice that you pull your phone 10cm back and then try this again, the 3x camera should then focus properly.
I think
babyboy3265 is correct. See my video from not so close to object.
my Problem is just in UHD60 recording. i can choose between 1x ,3x or 10x before start the recording. When i start to record i dont have this 3x or 10x button any more. but in FHD or UHD30 i have it after start.
