Eva_d, the new photos are better than the initial ones (the ones yo uploaded to modaco forum), could you try a macro photo?, or some photos with the camera holded firmly to very near objects?, and a recorded video?
Thank youuu very much!!!!

Macro pics just uploaded (note: adjusted white balance). IMHO they are pretty good! Video - don't have yet, maybe tomorrow.

That macro pics are very good, I'm beginning to think that the initial photos that werent as good as paul(modaco) samples was because of not holding the camera firmly until photo was done... isnt it?... I'm talking about imag0005, imag0006...
Nice pictures and good quality (focus/resolution).
A scan of a letter would be a other good indicator for the macro function (focus/resolution).
Maybe you can take one more photo of e.g. an advertising letter
or of a journal/magazine with text?
Thanks!
Eva_d, I've seen in the photos you also have a nokia with the keyboard "always visible", do you feel this kind of keyboard (always on) to be better than on the tytn that you must "expand" it all the time?

I must say that kind of keyboard is really convenient, I was using Nokia E61 for almost 2 months as a primary phone, and actually I liked it. But I'm back on board with WM platform.
Btw. I've uploaded example video - sorry for rotation, I did it from a mobile holder in my car. I've also uploaded close-up of texts, as requested - a little blurry tough, I should have done them from more distance.
the video looks really good... the macro shots... maybe there wasnt enought light, this phone cameras have a big shutter lag, this is the time since you press de button and the photo is really done, then, it is really important to hold steady the "camera" till the photo is on screen..
Thanks for your photos again!!
Is 320x240 the highest resolution?

Quite impressive for a cameraphone. I can't believe what I'm seeing actually.
Although http://klamstwo.org/evad/stuff/kaiser/samples/IMAG0039.jpg shows that the debayering algorithm used by the phone is CRAP. "maze" patterns like those seen in the sky are a known issue with the simpler interpolation algorithms. Has anyone created a camera app for HTC phones that can save raw sensor data to be given to an application such as dcraw?

The slide-out keyboard has major form factor advantages (phone is smaller and keys are larger), but there are plenty of times I miss my Treo 650's non-slideout "always-there" keyboard, especially when dialing.
Palm has stagnated a lot, but the one thing where they are way ahead is in terms of "non-stylus" operation. Strange that there is a Smartphone Edition of Windows Mobile but many of its improvements are not in the version for phones with a touchscreen.

hi there. recently i notice that there are green dotss and blue dotss somewhere on the picture taken from my camera.. does this mean that there are dead pixels?? or my camera become faulty??
is there anywhere to clear all the dots tat are on the picture??
sorry my english is not so good
i had uploaded a photo that had been taken from my camera..
please have a look, there are lotsa green dots n blue dot somewhere on the picture..
how can i solve this problem??
I've got green and red dots also on my camera. Even had it on my only previous faulty device too.
Apparently I think this happens for everyone's XDA IIi or equivalent device. Is there any experts out there who can explain the cause?
thats called Sensor Noise! because the photo sensor on mobile devices is so small if you try and take a picture in a dark environment you'll get noise!
try taking a pic in an environment with plenty of light
if you want a decent picture spend a few $$ on a decent camera
i had try out taking a picture somewhere brighter, but the result still same.. here's the picture i had taken.
by the way, how can i upgrade my xdaIIi's camera to the type of camera u mention ?? upgrade it from o2 service department ??
thankss
You can't upgrade the internal camera, there are no direct replacements. If you look at the Hi-res images I got of the Alpine you'll see the sort of size and shape of camera required and I very much doubt there'll be others the same or similar shape/size. If there are then you need to add the data ribbon to connect it.
Overall go to an Elec store and buy a dedicated camera.
I don't agree. Motorola V3 has a camera as small as XDAIIi and the pictures are awesome. Lenses are a determinant factor in quality. I personaly have a Canon DC20 that takes wonderfull photos but I would like to get better photos with my XDAIIi. Why not get better results wiyh ours devices? Converging functions in one device is helpfull to mobile professionals. BTW, tweaking the camera settings in registry makes the photos much better. See this forum for more information.

I think that there is no problem on your camara. note that if you want to have a good picture you must chose the best index light in setting of the camara for example; ambience: night or flourescent... and the cature mode, cature size..

Do a search for AtekSoft's CoolCamera. It allows quite a few more options than the default. There may be better camera replacement software out there, but I havn't found it yet.
Ateksoft is the one most Cooooooooool Camera software.....
From what I understand, O2 included a camera 'upgrade' in their extrom (which installs whenever you hard reset), which actually makes the camera quality WORSE. I've not tested it myself, as I'm quite happy with my phone setup as it is and really don't want to hard reset AGAIN, but some users report that flashing their device with the firmware which doesn't include this camera upgrade makes their camera quality better.
Also, you have to bear in mind that pretty much all cameras use cheap and nasty CMOS sensor technology (what low-quality webcams use) - the resolution and light sensitivity of CMOS technology is REALLY poor compared to CCD, but CCD tech is much more expensive and sucks up more battery power (hence CMOS technology being more widespread in the mobile industry).
Better quality cameras are starting to appear, and the quality of the k750i camera continues to astound me when I see my friends' photos. It won't be long though, I remember seeing articles about lenses made with a tiny suspension of water inbetween two nanometre-thick layers of plastic, to which an electric current could be applied to make the water change shape, acting as an optical lens... This kind of technology will drastically increase the quality and cost-effectiveness of higher-end portable, miniature camera technology, and I can't wait until it becomes widespread.
Hi fellows,
Anyone can elighten me here? when i use the camera and take a photo, when I go and view the photo, it is not the same quality I saw on the display, for some reason when the photo is saved, it is smudge, anyone encounter a similar situation? This happen more when photo is taken at night, it seems that the saving process damages the quality of the photo
Any feedback welcome
Thanks
First of all, appreciate that the size of the lens of the camera is so small, not so much light is going through it. So, especially at night, it will be hard to get nice pictures. This is not a camera with a phone, it is a phone with a camera!
Another issue is when you press the shutter release - squeezing your finger shakes the camera a bit, and this is something many camera users have to bear with. One idea is to use the timer for this instance, and place the Kaiser somewhere steady. Also, be aware that from the time you press the shutter release until it takes the picture does take longer than many dedicated cameras, so when you are doing your best to hold your camera still, be sure to do it long enough. I did that same error in the beginning, moving the camera even before it had taken the picture. Just keep it still for another second before you do anything else.
Poor Lighting
Overall I must say that I am very satisfied with the quality of the camera on my Tilt. However, this camera does seem to be more sensitive to poor lighting conditions than my 8125 was. This could either be caused by the absence of a flash or that the camera lens is 3MP instead of 1.3, and for that reason, picks up more flaws.
Any pictures I take outdoors with my Tilt turn out great. Actually the video recording is pretty damn good too. Indoors pictures tend to pickup a lot of "color noise" (Red, Green, Blue specs in the image) when taken.
I don't know which model phone you upgraded from, but another difference between the camera on the 8125 and the Tilt is that we now have an auto-focus lens, and that increases the time required to capture the image.
In the end, I am very satisfied with the camera on my Tilt, but as usual these comments based on my experiences only.

I've taken photos in bright sunlight outside and still gotten grainy/noisy photos, so I agree the camera is worse than the Hermes/8525 even w/o flash.

See, that's what we're talking about - look at the sky?!?!?!?!? Yeah, cell phones are crappy cameras but WTF is that? Your subject shows it a little on things like the tree trunk, etc, but it's horrible artifacting
Richard
It's a cell phone... I was drinking.... It's only 3MP.
As far as I am concerned, it's a good camera. We are the newest owners of the latest technology that still needs to be fine tuned. How many other cell phones have 3MP cameras?
I think the camera is very good... MUCH better than many other phones I've seen......

Although only 2MP, the Hermes has a better camera. Here's one sample:
Yea, I think you are correct... not too bad for 2MP!
I think the best setting for the camera to take good pictures is @ 1600X1200, with quality set to fine.

Yep, so coming from that to the Kaiser hurts. There's a lot more to a camera than Megapixels! Hopefully these Kaiser issues can be fixed either in firmware or with camera settings.... I just noticed the Adjustment page has Sharpness set at +3, I wonder if the minimum (+1) would provide better results?
Richard
Anyone who thinks the pictures taken by the 3.2MP camera on the Tytn II is even half decent has got rocks in there head. Take a look at some pictures taken with Sony Ericsons phones.
http://flickr.com/cameras/sonyericsson/
Nice landscape on a 3.2MP k800i
See what a good 2MP can do.(k750i/w800i)
I miss my k800i I lost that has now been replaced with a TytnII. The TytnII does a lot of great things the k800i did not but taken pictures is where the TytnII falls drastically short of the k800i and other SE phones.
The video is terrible. The 8525 camera was way better. When I try to record everything looks sluggish.
i can almost assure you guys that when coolcamera will support the kaiser we will see a big improvement.
were those 8525 pictures taken with coolcamera?

This is the well-known adjustment on the Hermes camera that makes the difference between sh*tty and good photos. And in older Hermes ROMs, this setting is not saved so you have to adjust it everytime you start the camera. I use the lowest Sharpness setting also on my TyTN II but unfortunately it doesn't give the same improvement as on the Hermes, just a little better.
Ok, So the camera's 3.2 mega pixel and the video recorder records pretty low res.
Would it be possible to edit the recorder so that it can record higher res/better quality?
Or is there any apps or console commands to change this
Unfortunatly the camera is very poor and nothing will fix it. Thats all there is too it.
Ok, Well that didn't answer my question.
Any the camera isn't poor it works great, Its a bit crappy in low light but still it looks awesome and better then a 5mp camera phone from samsung.

I actually have to agree with this as I've had the G600 and that camera SUCKED no matter what PhoneArena says. I noticed i would only use the G1 for pictures so i got rid of the 600

Ok you must not be able to read.
I'm not asking about quality of the camera.
Im asking if its at all possible to make video RECORDING better or higher res.
And what do you mean by nice fake?
If ur implying the pictures fake, Its not at all fake and was taken by my g1.
It depends alot on bandwidth of memory in the device. I dont know if it is possible right now to make a better/higer quality video recorder. If Google creates API's that take advantage of the full potential of the graphics chips we may get a better camcorder app.
I updated to hero and it seems to have a bit better video recording
but thats because of the codec it uses.

Seriously, read the freaking thread before saying something stupid.
As for the question, I'm sure a developer could create a new app for higher resolution video recorder because it has been done on other devices. Try requesting it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446769

post removed, misunderstood question
No, and the reason is:
A still camera has a longer exposure time and can dedicate more light overtime for each picture. A video has to a expose an image 30 times a second, so in order to expose properly the camera must take many pixels from the ccd and group them together as 1 pixel reducing image size for video. (I could be done by reducing FPS, but that will only go so far.)
And there is also issues with video format standards and the G1 ability to play back video to consider as well.
Heck, even my Canon 5D Mark II can only record video at 1/10th of the resolution it captures still images at. It does video at 1920x1080 or 2,073,600 pixels, whereas still images are captured at 5616x3744 or 21,026,304 pixels.
I think people expect far too much from a phone that has a camera that probably cost $15 to manufacture (the camera part - not the whole phone).
No I dont exspect it to do better i just wondering if it could.

Heard that it's mainly the presets that mess up the image. At least with pictures, manual settings prove to make way better pictures. So do your own whitebalance, lower the brightness a bit.
Indeed heared the same thing. On an other forum someone posted 2 pictures 1 with the auto settings and 1 with manual settings and you really saw the huge different in quaility.
I have attachted the 2 pictures in quesiton. You can see the difference for yourself.
the difference on these two pictures could also be, that on manual setting the sun is behind (southeast) him and on auto setting the sun is infront (northeast) of him. It would be better if we get some pictures taken in a row.
Interesting stuff. Would love to see some more comparison shots, as the poor reviews for the camera is one of the things putting me off this phone.

Ah... yeah I really hate that "mist-effect" too. It's the main reason why I'm considering Not buying the 2X and wait for 3D and hope that they've fixed that issue...
I read a review on phonearena.com and they showed a colorfilter called "vivid" which increased the contrast quite alot. That fixed the "mist" problem but then I think the contrast is a bit too high there. But definitely MUCH better.
Anyone know if it's possible to adjust the contrast in the cam app?

LG know there's an issue with the auto settings. And as you can see, if you set it up manually the pictures are just fine. So just wait for a small update, and the issue will be fixed....No biggie really, and defo not HW related.

I took the pictures, so let me nip that in the bud.
The pictures were taken in north eastern direction and indeed there is some difference in time when I took them (1st auto settings: 13:00 and 2nd manual setting 14:30). But there was no sunlight directly in the lens and I used my hand to drop a shadow. Before I took both photos I cleaned the lens cover thoroughly.
As supported by other users: the automatic settings tend to overexpose and the automatic white balance is just miles off. I am sure LG will fix this in a future update and otherwise I'll just keep setting it up manually as I do with my dslr.

To make photo quality better and less blurred - just turn "Stabilization" - "Off".
But it's make sense only for photo mode, video still no solution.

I didn't do more than change the white balance to "sunlight" and underexpose two stops. The under/over -expose function is the "+/-" -sign in the first menu when you press the screen in camera mode. Under exposing is only recommended on a bright day. The biggest improvment is the whitebalance, stay away from the "automatic" -setting.
I am very impressed by all the camera setup options on this phone!
And what about the video? Are they fine?
Hi
I have ordered the 2x and uses a Desire now.
It had the same problem initially.
After first removing the grease (from production) on the lens and on the backside of the protective plastic, the pictures was fully useable.
Later on I removed the easy scratched protective plastic altogether and problem solved.

Just try to clean the lens to begin with, and inspect the protection!
all the pictures are blurry and the videos taken with the camera stops eventually for half a second (I guess this is because of the stock sdcard).
Is there any possibility to improve the camera performance to get clean pictures?
Thank you in advance,

I've no problem with my camera (good picture) or for video recording (except strange ration for 720p).
I think it's maybe your LG black who has defect ?
I agree with guyTam
I mean with not good light conditions, all the pictures are blurry. I have read the same problem on other users. The video issue is probably because of the stock sd card.

That's with all phone cameras. They only work in perfect conditions. Sensor is too small for quality photo taking. Maybe with some Carl Zeiss, yes, you will get some nice looking photos.
Does that happen when you take landscape photos or with closer objects too?
I had similar problems with video recording but since started to use NOVA ROM, I don't any more. I have stock SD card.
No problems taking photos to landscapes, just in interiors and night pictures. I am using Pays rom, do you recommend me using nova? I am reading the thread and I thinks is still a little bit buggy?
Thank you
They both work better than stock. Tried both, I like Nova ROM more because of longer (by a lot) battery life. I don't play games so I don't know if they perform different speed wise. There is some bug with SD card but that's all.
If there will be some update for camera app, it will be from LG in next update (I hope). I don't think that anyone else can make any tweaks for stock app. Maybe some other app with filters like unsharp mask in Photoshop could do the trick.

that's what i've noticed also... whenever i take videos and play them on the phone's video player, it looks fine, but when i transfer it to my laptop it looks kinda weird.
btw, the 5mp camera takes very nice stills. best one i had so far.
yeah because the lens sensor is too small; ƒ, shutter speed, can't be compared to real camera & the preview is only 4 inches resized to 800x480 obviously it looks good on phone, for excellent result you may not move/shake at all while taking a shot (if it possible, use a tripod). if the outdoor light is not enough... it can't be helped. ISO adjustment just makes your result even worse. here the example for outdoor shot from my phone:

not too good for a camera but good enough for camera phone

You are perfectly right
the aspect ratio of the videos recorded needs to be fixed, im surprised that LG hasn't fixed this after so long.
would be epic if devs managed to fix this before LG does

And the video format should not 3gp. The encoded results is horrible. Blurred, grainy, and awful audio quality.

I agree this one....the video format should be mp4.
I dont know what I did, But i just installed the stock rom after removing Nova. And surprisingly, the camera is taking awesome clicks. No speed lags for shutter/review. Aspect ratios seem fine for videos. And the video quality is amazingly improved.
Did someone just mention that Nova has better battery life ? What about pays ? hows the battery life on that ?
