Heard that it's mainly the presets that mess up the image. At least with pictures, manual settings prove to make way better pictures. So do your own whitebalance, lower the brightness a bit.

Indeed heared the same thing. On an other forum someone posted 2 pictures 1 with the auto settings and 1 with manual settings and you really saw the huge different in quaility.
I have attachted the 2 pictures in quesiton. You can see the difference for yourself.

the difference on these two pictures could also be, that on manual setting the sun is behind (southeast) him and on auto setting the sun is infront (northeast) of him. It would be better if we get some pictures taken in a row.

Interesting stuff. Would love to see some more comparison shots, as the poor reviews for the camera is one of the things putting me off this phone.

Indeed but when you look at the shadow of the car you see it moved a bit. But the rest of the picture is way better i'll try to do some tests of my own tommorow afternoon.

You could try Vignette, it's in the market. Camera app replacement. There is a free demo available
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

@ all the owners:
Could you please test the camera with photos and videos and finally clarify once forever these ''mist problems'' ?
Just if its possible to fix with some software adjustments or its an hardware problem...
Thanks

Ah... yeah I really hate that "mist-effect" too. It's the main reason why I'm considering Not buying the 2X and wait for 3D and hope that they've fixed that issue...
I read a review on phonearena.com and they showed a colorfilter called "vivid" which increased the contrast quite alot. That fixed the "mist" problem but then I think the contrast is a bit too high there. But definitely MUCH better.
Anyone know if it's possible to adjust the contrast in the cam app?

I've seen some pics taken with the 3D, also has the same problemm

LG know there's an issue with the auto settings. And as you can see, if you set it up manually the pictures are just fine. So just wait for a small update, and the issue will be fixed....No biggie really, and defo not HW related.

I took the pictures, so let me nip that in the bud.
The pictures were taken in north eastern direction and indeed there is some difference in time when I took them (1st auto settings: 13:00 and 2nd manual setting 14:30). But there was no sunlight directly in the lens and I used my hand to drop a shadow. Before I took both photos I cleaned the lens cover thoroughly.
As supported by other users: the automatic settings tend to overexpose and the automatic white balance is just miles off. I am sure LG will fix this in a future update and otherwise I'll just keep setting it up manually as I do with my dslr.

can you tell us which settings you changed and to what you changed it?
because from my opinion it does make a good improvement to the auto settings.
thx in advance

To make photo quality better and less blurred - just turn "Stabilization" - "Off".
But it's make sense only for photo mode, video still no solution.

I didn't do more than change the white balance to "sunlight" and underexpose two stops. The under/over -expose function is the "+/-" -sign in the first menu when you press the screen in camera mode. Under exposing is only recommended on a bright day. The biggest improvment is the whitebalance, stay away from the "automatic" -setting.
I am very impressed by all the camera setup options on this phone!

And what about the video? Are they fine?

Hi
I have ordered the 2x and uses a Desire now.
It had the same problem initially.
After first removing the grease (from production) on the lens and on the backside of the protective plastic, the pictures was fully useable.
Later on I removed the easy scratched protective plastic altogether and problem solved.

I haven't tried out video yet, but it uses the same setup options. So my guess is that video suffers from the same issues with automatic white balance.

That macro pics are very good, I'm beginning to think that the initial photos that werent as good as paul(modaco) samples was because of not holding the camera firmly until photo was done... isnt it?... I'm talking about imag0005, imag0006...
Nice pictures and good quality (focus/resolution).
A scan of a letter would be a other good indicator for the macro function (focus/resolution).
Maybe you can take one more photo of e.g. an advertising letter
or of a journal/magazine with text?
Thanks!
Eva_d, I've seen in the photos you also have a nokia with the keyboard "always visible", do you feel this kind of keyboard (always on) to be better than on the tytn that you must "expand" it all the time?

I must say that kind of keyboard is really convenient, I was using Nokia E61 for almost 2 months as a primary phone, and actually I liked it. But I'm back on board with WM platform.
Btw. I've uploaded example video - sorry for rotation, I did it from a mobile holder in my car. I've also uploaded close-up of texts, as requested - a little blurry tough, I should have done them from more distance.
the video looks really good... the macro shots... maybe there wasnt enought light, this phone cameras have a big shutter lag, this is the time since you press de button and the photo is really done, then, it is really important to hold steady the "camera" till the photo is on screen..
Thanks for your photos again!!

Quite impressive for a cameraphone. I can't believe what I'm seeing actually.
Although http://klamstwo.org/evad/stuff/kaiser/samples/IMAG0039.jpg shows that the debayering algorithm used by the phone is CRAP. "maze" patterns like those seen in the sky are a known issue with the simpler interpolation algorithms. Has anyone created a camera app for HTC phones that can save raw sensor data to be given to an application such as dcraw?

The slide-out keyboard has major form factor advantages (phone is smaller and keys are larger), but there are plenty of times I miss my Treo 650's non-slideout "always-there" keyboard, especially when dialing.
Palm has stagnated a lot, but the one thing where they are way ahead is in terms of "non-stylus" operation. Strange that there is a Smartphone Edition of Windows Mobile but many of its improvements are not in the version for phones with a touchscreen.

Camera Photo Taking - Quality is bad

Hi fellows,
Anyone can elighten me here? when i use the camera and take a photo, when I go and view the photo, it is not the same quality I saw on the display, for some reason when the photo is saved, it is smudge, anyone encounter a similar situation? This happen more when photo is taken at night, it seems that the saving process damages the quality of the photo
Any feedback welcome
Thanks
First of all, appreciate that the size of the lens of the camera is so small, not so much light is going through it. So, especially at night, it will be hard to get nice pictures. This is not a camera with a phone, it is a phone with a camera!
Another issue is when you press the shutter release - squeezing your finger shakes the camera a bit, and this is something many camera users have to bear with. One idea is to use the timer for this instance, and place the Kaiser somewhere steady. Also, be aware that from the time you press the shutter release until it takes the picture does take longer than many dedicated cameras, so when you are doing your best to hold your camera still, be sure to do it long enough. I did that same error in the beginning, moving the camera even before it had taken the picture. Just keep it still for another second before you do anything else.
Poor Lighting
Overall I must say that I am very satisfied with the quality of the camera on my Tilt. However, this camera does seem to be more sensitive to poor lighting conditions than my 8125 was. This could either be caused by the absence of a flash or that the camera lens is 3MP instead of 1.3, and for that reason, picks up more flaws.
Any pictures I take outdoors with my Tilt turn out great. Actually the video recording is pretty damn good too. Indoors pictures tend to pickup a lot of "color noise" (Red, Green, Blue specs in the image) when taken.
I don't know which model phone you upgraded from, but another difference between the camera on the 8125 and the Tilt is that we now have an auto-focus lens, and that increases the time required to capture the image.
In the end, I am very satisfied with the camera on my Tilt, but as usual these comments based on my experiences only.

I've taken photos in bright sunlight outside and still gotten grainy/noisy photos, so I agree the camera is worse than the Hermes/8525 even w/o flash.

It's a cell phone... I was drinking.... It's only 3MP.
As far as I am concerned, it's a good camera. We are the newest owners of the latest technology that still needs to be fine tuned. How many other cell phones have 3MP cameras?
I think the camera is very good... MUCH better than many other phones I've seen......

Although only 2MP, the Hermes has a better camera. Here's one sample:
Yea, I think you are correct... not too bad for 2MP!
I think the best setting for the camera to take good pictures is @ 1600X1200, with quality set to fine.

Yep, so coming from that to the Kaiser hurts. There's a lot more to a camera than Megapixels! Hopefully these Kaiser issues can be fixed either in firmware or with camera settings.... I just noticed the Adjustment page has Sharpness set at +3, I wonder if the minimum (+1) would provide better results?
Richard
Anyone who thinks the pictures taken by the 3.2MP camera on the Tytn II is even half decent has got rocks in there head. Take a look at some pictures taken with Sony Ericsons phones.
http://flickr.com/cameras/sonyericsson/
Nice landscape on a 3.2MP k800i
See what a good 2MP can do.(k750i/w800i)
I miss my k800i I lost that has now been replaced with a TytnII. The TytnII does a lot of great things the k800i did not but taken pictures is where the TytnII falls drastically short of the k800i and other SE phones.
The video is terrible. The 8525 camera was way better. When I try to record everything looks sluggish.
i can almost assure you guys that when coolcamera will support the kaiser we will see a big improvement.
were those 8525 pictures taken with coolcamera?

This is the well-known adjustment on the Hermes camera that makes the difference between sh*tty and good photos. And in older Hermes ROMs, this setting is not saved so you have to adjust it everytime you start the camera. I use the lowest Sharpness setting also on my TyTN II but unfortunately it doesn't give the same improvement as on the Hermes, just a little better.

Why the quality of the camera is so bad?

LG Optimus 2X's camera has 8mp but is a fully crap!!! The camera from LG Optimus black (5mp) Galaxy S2 is way, way better!!!
First-> Photos:
LG 2X:... CRAP!!!! make blurred pictures/ colors are not suitable/brightness is very bad
LG OB:....Not the best, but way more better, clear pictures/ sharp colors/ no problem with the brightness, NO MORE OTHER WORDS IF SGS2 dosen't exist it was the 1st best camera!!!
Galaxy S2: NO WORDS 1ST PRIZE!!!!!
Second-> Videos:
LG 2X:... FULLY CRAP!!!! make blurred videos/ colors are not suitable/brightness is very, very bad/ no auto focus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LG OB:....Best i ever tried on a mobile device, way more better than other Optimus or Galaxy (or others) device, clear videos/ sharp colors/ LG OB:....Not the bes, but way more better, clear pictures/ sharp color/ absolutely no problem with the brightness
Galaxy S2: Never tried
IF U KNOW ANY FIX FOR 2X CAMERA PLZ HELP ME!!! I REALLY NEED THE CAMERA, I TRIED DIFFERENT APPS BUT NO SUCCES, EXEPT LGCamera Pro (more options and settring)
hello i don`t know what is wrong with your or You just don`t know how to do the pictures on your mobile, because i did try camera on my log optimus 2x only on stock rom and i compare to se xperia arc S my whife and for me lg is a way better than se, no matter how you set up camera in same light condition is a lot better lg than se, nice and sharp pictures, colors are better, on poor light pictures on lg looks a lot better not so much "noise" like on se xperia arc S, a lot better lg camera than se, sorry but i did test both and se xperia arc S have no chance with lg optimus 2x camera.

Damn... It really works thanks!
It's actually quite funny, how doing something so simple can make a whole lot of difference...
Honestly not my idea. It was in a thread here a few days ago where someone commented on the difference, and a small discussion about it. Was even a joke about having the glass replaced with optical glass, or simply cutting a hole in the back plate (And then having to keep the lens clean).
BTW.. you can get spare back cover's from ebay and other places cheaply. I'm not sure if the aftermarket 'extended battery covers' have plastic on them, so you may be able to get an extended battery and clear camera shots ;-)
As a side note, within 30 seconds of opening my phone, I got a fingerprint on the side of the case I couldn't get off lol.
Oh, on the 'auto focus' side of things, I did read in a review that once the auto focus is set (from the moment you press record with the LG camera app), it stays at that focus unfortunately. Maybe there is a better camera app that adjusts focus real time, or a way to hack the app?
I noticed that the camera unit has it's own len's anyway, so it's protected, so you could probably safely remove the plastic/glass from the back of the case if you so wished. Your choice obviously.
The difference between a picture taken with the plastic cover, and without it is crazy !
There are LOTS of spare covers on ebay, and 100% genuine available from LG's supplier cheaply Perhaps buy a new cover, and just cut the old plastic out or something if you are into pictures
That's what I'm gonna do, because the difference is worth it !
It's so sharp without it !
The only issue will be dust getting into the phone !
If you want autofocus take a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094424
Remember that to use this CAM MOD you need CM7
I had taken fotos by cm7 camera,o2x official camera and MIUI camera.
The contrast is not remarkable.
THe effects order is official>miui>cm7.
Lol what a nice idea! I have to try that, even im happy with the original. Wont have issues like that.

I suppose that this is applies only if the cover is full of dust or it is oiled and if it has scratches.

lol, not bad
Today I found out something interesting. With lg camcord I went to settings and played a bit. With the ''action mode'' on a 720p video and 20mb bitrate the result came out really really fluid. I also played going out in the light and back in the dark and it was still fluid, no difference in framerates from outside to inside.
I think I'm going to keep it on ''action mode'' 4ever.
( I want autofocus working!!
i think bad quality is because compression. compression in p990 is too high.
if we can abase compression level, we will get better quality.
Known anyone how decrease compress. level?
thanks
Well. I dropped my O2X. The plastic cracked, so i decided to pull out a knife and started making a hole.

1) Can you please a get a really good close up of the screen/bezel border on the front? I want to know if there's as big of a gap as the Gnex
2) Open up settings, and get a closeup of the background (preferably in a dark room). I wanna know if they fixed that stupid gradient issue in 4.2, and if LCD vs. AMOLED might make it less obvious.
Thanks

I will work on these. But guys I'm not doing benchmarks..... there are some pretty good ones already done and I don't see that as being something I can do in a video.
It's fantastic, thanks man.
do you have an S3 handy? Wouldn't mind seeing an HONEST opinion about the screen differences between a Samoled screen vs this one.. if not then that's cool too thanks for doing this!
Screen Sensitivity
Hi, appreciate the effort you're putting in friend.
1 thing I can think of now that I'm quite curious about is the screen senstitivity of the phone.
Can you do the following please?:
1. (If you haven't already) Go to Settings > Options > About Phone > Tap 'Build Number' a few times till you turn developer options on.
2. Open developer options and turn on the 'Pointer Location' option.
3. Keep an eye on the 'Prs' value at the top of the screen and make as light a touch as possible around the screen. Record the lowest value you can get.
Can you also try and input text at a rapid pace and see how successful it is?
The reason behind all this is that there have been some reports of very poor screen sensitivity on the phone meaning that higher pressure is needed for the phone to register a touch.
Would it be possible for you to make a comparison to another android phone? Galaxy S'x' or a the Galaxy Nexus (if you own one)?
There's a thread in the Q/A forum where people are discussing this but I'm not able to post links yet. It's quite worrying.
Thanks
THANK YOU, SIR! That second video was great!
Also, you're in the UK? You don't have a British accent.
Edit: People need to thank OP for his efforts!
Does it rattle? and what do you think is causing the rattle ?
Camera options and HDR mode preview on video, also sound quality (loud or not)
Sent from my LT26i
Color Shift
Thanks for the video....
All LCDs have color shift at angles... can we see a quick vid of the phone at some normal then exaggerated angles ?
Thanks :good:
Ok, got a few more videos up in the first post! Enjoy
P.S got to go to work soon be back later today with the battery update!
Your last video isn't showing up still. Says unavailable (still processing). Is Google gonna start failing at video delivery too?
Danny80y, can you spin it on your index finger, please?

Ahaha I kid. I kid.
Actually all we want to know are three things...
1. does it rattle
2. is there a touch sensitivity problem.
3 and does an intensive game get even slightly laggier the longer its played.
If none of these issues exist..we would be VERY VERY HAPPY...Please reply.

So... Bsi sensor bleeding

Reminiscent of the HTC one it seems that my unit has a blue bleed onto the sensor from the backside illumination. Look up the m7 low light issues. They get worse over time so I'm thinking what will happen is it starts out very mild as it is now and gets significantly worse as time progresses. Here is an example.
You really have to look for it to see it. Crank up brightness and such. When taking low light photos the outer parts must be dark. But really this bs from a flagship. I'll be returning this phone. LG g3 here I come no more bs knox!

I don't care for black photos. You completely missed the point. If it's anything like how the HTC one m7 sensors were it starts out so small

Then clearly progresses into a full blown bad sensor. Looks like you completely missed my point of find it now, see if it's a widespread issue like the m7, track it to see if it gets worse, and fix it under warranry or replace if it's within return period like me. Above was my wife's htc one she never sent in(otterbox) next to an htc one we sent in and got back with a good sensor.
So it only gets worse... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595534 and the main reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
Again I only made this thread because this is exactly how my wife's m7 started before it turned horrid. I played xcom on my phone which made it pretty hot for extended periods and ad the first thread states apparently gets worse with heat.
made a mistake using image shack.
heres a better look

That looks more like noise from really high ISO to me.
Looks kinda like noise to me too

I was thinking the same thing
I made a test taking a picture with the lights off and the phone agains my bed.
ISO 100 --> a very nice black photo
Auto ISO (a very high ISO, i can't remember the value, but it's extremely high) --> you can see at the center of the photo a perfect black, but in the corners you can see some purple tint. It looks like noise, but it's a strange behavior that just the corners are affected.
why is it assumed that since you have the faulty sensor thats just how the S5 was made. maybe you have a faulty device and it needs excahnged. try a second device and see how it is. if its similar thgen this maybe an issue. but one thing from one device isnt "bs from a flagship device"
It gets worse if you enable picture stabilization. Mine has quite a bit in low light, but as FarKeld noted, it all goes away at low iso settings.
with picture stabilization ISO goes up to 2000
btw: I'm getting an annoying error "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped" every time I try to see my photos

Try wiping your gallery and media storage data (via Settings). I had the same issue with Gallery and this fixed it.

it was a corrupted file, I deleted it and now the gallery works good
I Just realized how apparent it is in low light video. I guess it was iso noise or no picture at all.
