[Q] Root permission problems - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried various things, but sadly without any result.
The thing is: the phone is rooted (x8 of course) superuser grants root permission, but various programs (root uninstaller for me) tolds me, that the phone isn't rooted, try with google.
I will be happy, if anyone can help me how to achive the desired result.
Thanks in advance.

Y U posting in 2 year old threads? ???:banghead:
wanna thank xda? here

Akdrose, its good to see that you are trying to help around instaid of making useless off topic posts but replying to 2 years old threads its useless as well. Think about it, the original poster didn't revive his own thread for some reasons, either he solved his problem or he doesnt need the solution anymore.(i doubt they still have their x8)
Furthermore by reviving old threads the new ones that need solution are droping below these threads.
From now on, please check the dates before posting to a thread.

HTC VIVID Super User Problems....

So I am a new person and therefor can not post this in the development thread under the forum where I feel it would belong with the other root related questions.... So i followed the SUPER GUIDE to root my phone (Thank you so much Slapshot and PirateGhost, I was beginning to regret not getting a skyrocket until I found your thread). My super user is running into an issue I can not seem to fix.....
Maybe this is simple or maybe I really messed something up....
Basically none of my apps have root anymore (they did at one point and to my knowledge I change nothing...)
When I go to the Super User app to update my binaries and hopefully get any issues resolved I am greeted by the following error message in the update log: "Failed to find currently installed SU binary. Update cannot continue"
Is there a resolution for this? I have not found anyone even running into the same issue on the Vivid.....
A little nervous.... I didnt have near this many issues rooting my ATRIX and modding the living daylights out of that.
Have you checked with Root Checker Basic to see if you even have Root? If you didn't follow the Super Guide step by step your phone could have relocked after you turned your phone off/on.
If it still fails to update you could try SuperUser Update Fixer.
Yes I have check with root checker.
This may be a dumb question but how do I uninstall Superuser? When I go to the typical application management it does not give me the option. I have done an install again to overwrite the files and nothing changed there.
I followed the instructions step by step (though obviously I messed up somewhere...)

Interesting... maybe your root didn't stick. We had a little trouble with that before but pirateghost fixed the CWM ROOT zip. You have a working CWM Recovery, correct?
In the superguide, I have a second option for root in case the first doesn't work. In your case, go ahead and try the second option. The one involving the supertool. That should get you perm root. If that doesn't even work, then we might have to put you back to stock and go at it again.
EDIT: BEFORE TRYING THE SUPERTOOL, try flashing the new CWM ROOT VER2 zip from CWM recovery and see if root sticks.
Slapshot, thank you for checking the General Thread, I really do appreciate that. I have tried both methods multiple times since the root failure seeing as so many people said they had to run the methods multiple times to make them stick (this admittedly may be part of the issue). The most recent one has been the CWM ROOT VER2. Still no dice. Is there a method to remove and re install super user? Or am I reading into the error too literally and instead I just basically do not have root.

No problem. At this point I think you may just not have root... but first, go ahead and go into bootloader (power off, then power on while holding power and vol down). Does your device say unlocked?
*Just a clarification*
You have to unroot your phone to get rid of it Idk why I put uninstall/reinstall earlier...still out there from last night I guess.

Yes the device still says unlocked. That was one of the first things I checked... Haha....
As I said ive flashed the rooted CWM and it says it went over successfully.
If i use the Zerg exploit it still seems to go over successfully (I realize this has a tenancy to mess with internal storage and only provide a temp root but i do not even get that temp root).
How would I unroot my device? Do you mean flash to stock and relock my boot loader?
As I said I have flashed several devices in the past (Atrix, eee pad transformer, HTC Inspire, HTC DINC, SAMSUNG GALAXY S T-Mobile) but I am not completely up to date on all of the technical terms...

I haven't told anyone how to do it surprisingly, and I'm more than happy to help . I was honestly thinking about adding reverting back to stock to the superguide, and I think I just may do that. Here is the link. Pirateghost is the man.

I will try this firs thing in the morning and give an update on how things went. I would try it tonight but lets be honest, its the 1st of the year and the last thing I need to be doing is messing with technology.....

It's no problem, this isn't a dumb question or easy issue by any means. If the method I directed to you doesn't work, let me know. There is another way to do it without all the code.

Shell has granted superuser permission! FLASHING ERROR

Hey
Ive been rooted just two days now, im on stock ics 4.0.4 and i rooted using pc odin and the speedmod kernal that was flashed installed superuser and cwm. I have two questions....
However ive been getting a flashing message everytime my phone hangs or reboots saying *Shell has granted superuser permissions*
This message stays for afew mins but then stops. each time my phone hangs this message appears and then it tells me my launcher needs to close which is Nova launcher. ive gone into superuser and updated the binary and it still happends. I have to be honest and say my note likes to hang from time to time which i guess is normal for all note users lol.but this superuser is a joke and i wanna know if i can correct this with using the superUS from the play store instead??? Also superuser does not allow me permission sometimes but then sometimes it will, so i want this fixed ASAP.
Also that yellow triangle thing that is on my screen on recovery, i was told flashing through odin raises the counter but what does this mean? do i have to get rid of the trinagle or just leave it. cause i keep hearing you should and then some have said it does not affect the phone.
if i cant get this fixed, ill rather just unroot, cause i cant take all the parlava.
cheers folks!!!

1.) Kick yourself.Do not insult Devs who have spent much of their time giving you free stuff.Be thankful.
2.)Read the instructions thrice before doing anything.
Now for the real stuff-
3.)Download any stock GB ROM.Stock Roms
4.)Wipe Data
5.)Root it by following the same thread.
6.)Install any ICS ROM.Follow the instructions to the letter. Then use TriangleAway.apk to clear binary count.(Search the forum for the apk). The triangle is simply a sign signifying that you have flashed a custom firmware. If it is present you might not get covered under warranty.Read around for more information.
7.)You're done.
8.)If you have problems search for a solution.Search again and again. If you don't find after searching thrice, then ask.

These symptoms are may be of partial root, try root check as "alanccs" said, if it shows rooted, you can try changing superSu or updated busybox, and if that too doesn't helps, you have to flash stock GB ROM again, you can choose pre-rooted GB rom.

cannot mount read write

hi i have been trying to mount the phone to read/write in order to access the /system folder for copying files
however, i am unable to do this
i have tried the mount r/w applications online but not working as well
i have tried all the commends on adb as well, what i get is "remount fail: read-only file system
i have used the abd to run super user, but it shows im already a super user
i have tried to set adb to set as root and it also shows already running as root.
any ideas guys??
i have tried reflashing several kernels and also roms, same thing.
oh additional note, i have tried adb in recovery mode and also in normal mode, doesnt work.
and my usb debugging is already checked
Very interesting development. Download Link please... :silly:
Despite that this surely the wrong thread you could tell us whether you have this problem on a toaster or a tumble dryer...
And what are you trying?
adb push iOS5.apk /system/s**t or what?
hi there, thank you for the really useless reply there. unfortunately you are right, i had put this in the wrong place. anyway, thanks to the admin for helping me move it to the right place.
in case you have been in a cave or dont have google, many people have issues trying to mount read/write capabilities in their /system folders be it to be able to move some things in there or to push applications.
as most people who ask questions here dont get much answers because of people like you, i had to do my own searching and try everything on the web and sadly it didnt work.
so, for people who have come to this thread looking for answers, please try the following (only if you have tried everything)
SOLUTION
it would seem that after flashing many roms, the /system folder has issues.
please go to recovery (CWM) > mounts and storage> format /system
once you have done this, please reinstall your rom. this will fix your issues.
as for trahzef*ck: i'll give u a thanks since you being a d*ck helped me figure out my solution and you look like you need a hand in being nice

Congrats! Obviously you have learned something. Learning by own research will help more than to be spooned.
To be honest: Maybe my answer was harsh. But be aware for the following:
- Post in the right section
- Give people, who want to help the needed information. Rom, Version, Kernel etc. So that they can help.
- and don't try to be so smart ass cause you found a format command. There are already enough on XDA.
As your thank meter is Zero I give u one back. for your most intelligent word/spelling creations. It's your first one. maybe the last.
Halleluja! An new &%/()&%%$ on XDA. Thank god.
Maybe you have partial root. Try Busybox from playstore and update the binaries.

i will however take your advice on the first two, but i dont have to be one because you apparently are one big enough to cover most of the members here.

erm nope, i checked with afew other guys, who root alot as well, apparently sometimes the /system file will get mucked up like that once in awhile. so this doesnt really apply to specific phones or tabs but to all who may have this issue.
but the issue has been resolved. thanks for the suggestion tho...

[Q] Cannot Root - Please help!

Hi Everyone,
I know there are numerous posts on here and other sites about how to root your galaxy ace but I have tried them all and nothing seems to work. I have struggled with the phone for the last 17 months. I am due an upgrade in January. The lack of memory and poor performance does my head in. This is my first Android device. I hope newer devices are better else I will try to get an iPhone when I upgrade (or even win mobile).
When I try to root I either get:
"Error in /sdcard/upd_1.zip (status 7) Installation aborted
or
it says installation complete and when I reboot there is nothing to indicate a successfully rooted phone.
I have tried numerous downloaded files such as root, zip, upd_1.zip, update.zip etc and nothing I download seems to do the job.
I tried the Jelly Bean Cyanogen rom for a while but I found it even slower. Ideally I will stick with Gingerbread but I need to remove all the bundled crap. I have already moved as many apps as I can to sd card using the "SetInstallLocation 2" command which helped but I still hate this phone as it is.
Can someone PLEASE help before I pull out what little hair I have left.
Thanks
You can flash a new ROM but can't root?
Just flash a pre-rooted stock ROM. Then delete system apps you don't need. Tada!

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I just downloaded universal_gb_root and it seemed to go okay. Lots of text flashing up screen then message saying something like "your phone now has root access - enjoy"
I restarted fully expecting it to have worked but alas, it is just the same. I then installed root checker from play store which confirms that "this device does not have proper root access."
I will have another look tomorrow after work. (if not chucked phone out car window by then)
How can tesco advertise this phone as "great for app lovers and gamers!" Yeah, if you only want a handful at any one time - grrrr

Sorry to hear that. My phone´s root was done long ago with one of those solutions that didnt work on your phone. So if you dont want to continue to look for a way to root, you can simply install a custom rom that already has root
I dont know stock rom´s already rooted, you have que wait for ironman to show you, But there are custom rom´s based on stock rom´s in this forum. Sorry coulnd be more helpful
[EDIT btw you did open superSU and upgrade the SU binary, or it didnt have superSU at all, after root?

Tested the download and installation on my PC and it works, however, have not experienced in S5830 cause I already have root. You might want to find someone who has successfully used
Hi,
I didn't have superSU at all. No new icons or anything indicating root. Thanks for the suggestions. I will try when I get a minute.
Try My Blog.

[Q] Followed Tuts and this is where I am can anyone help?

Right firstly appologise to the admin for posting earlier in the wrong thread, but gratitude for you patience and direction to getting me to the point where I currently am. which is.... Ive followed the tuts from getting my phone from the exclamationion/pc symbol, re-installed the correct firmware and followed the rooting tut. I am on 2.3.6 android version S5830NEKT2 baseband [email protected]#1 kernel version gingerbread build no:. my question is (and believe me I have searched all evening through the forums to try to gain the knowledge myself and leave the busy guys doing what they do best behind the scenes) I cant seem to unlock all the ****e apps that come pre-installed with the phone... all i want to do is free up phone memory, and maybe install a stable sci-fi fancy looking rom/SHELL. however when i try to uninstall/view or any thing via CWM/AppMaster/installmanager/ESfileexplorer I keep getting the same message about my phone "MUST BE ROOTED" first. I did get the message at the end of rooting via the tuts and was told to thank the guy... which I did (and still do) can anyone tell me where I went wrong? I am at present thinking that maybe installing a custom ROM (currently looking at cryogen latest) would resolve my hassles am I correct?
I am extremely gratefull for you chaps on XDA for getting me this far and hope I dont come across any other way. I would be content with at least having my phone working thanks to you guys but, just cant shake the feeling I am a midges **** off from sorting the root problem can anyone help me....
ps... had a few beers so am off to bed to sleep on it for now... I have a shed load of kids and a moaning wife with a list of jobs todo over the weekend,so I will get back to this during nxt week sometime. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated...
FRANKLY MY PHONE IS NEARLY AS OLD AS ME.. AND IM SURPRISED THE SUPPORT IS STILL OUT THERE
