I've never really been into htc except for the g1, and I just got a nexus one that was already rooted running cm7 nightlies, I was under the impression that with htc you had to have s-off to root but mine is s-on. Does the nexus one have to have s-off like an evo 3d or sensation sorry if it's a dumb question I came from samsung

Nexus is a dev phone with a unlockable bootloader out of the box.
S off is not need and you can't achieve it. Very fiew nexus ones actually do have s off though.
Read the wiki and learn just about all you need/want to know.
Thanks will do

I'm about to buy a Nexus One for me. Right now i have a Samsung Galaxy 5 (i5500).
What wiki do you talk about?
Is it easy to install CM7?
Wiki is on this very forum. It is a sticky.
Perhaps the link at the very top labeled "WIKI"
Good lord.
Or in the sticky thread named "Nexus One Wiki".
Or in my signature.

This would depend on you technical know-how. If you rooted your phone you should be able to handle installing a custom rom.

Search, people, search!!!
I've seen this question at least twice in the past 24 hours, and this isn't a fast moving forum!
Doktor is right; it's not available and is not (yet) needed. Certain people have S-Off just because of either the way their phone happened to come from the factory, or because they just have developer devices.

Can we have a sticky with FAQs like this? search functions are rarely perfect for me (even though in one case, the answer is actually on the first page)
 There already is one. No one bothers to read so I hardly even work on it.
Also search functions are pretty good, you just have to you know read, and refine your search if it comes up wrong.

Oh the irony... LOL :what:
Anyhow, I wish people would stop saying that we don't need it... With s-off, we would not be stuck waiting for carrier signed hboot images; as soon as one carrier released it or someone received a leak, we would all be able to use it. Right now, each user is stuck waiting for their carrier. So, all the Canadian users are stuck on GB for now for example.

As far as I understand it the firmware from onr will not work with the other. Irregardless of s-off, the radio for ics I think was change so you would still need your carriers updated radio.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I can't comment on whether there was a change of radio from GB to ICS in the releases so far. However, I can tell you that Rogers and Bell in Canada use the same frequencies and protocols as US AT&T. I have an AT&T SIM that I use when travelling in the US and my Raider works fine. So I infer that either the radios are identical (att vs Bell, not GB vs ICS) or compatible. With S-Off, I would be up and running.
Also, if I understand correctly, with S-off, we would be free to mix and match, so I could try the ATT ICS Rom, with the Bell GB radio. Anyhow, all wishful thinking for now.

For those interested in s-off ;-) you may want to take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573491
OP there indicates he is beta testing an s-off tool on pur device. You may want to express your thatnks and support there...

Looks like they're close to releasing it too. Been actively following that thread cuz I'm dying to install some wicked custom ics roms on my raider and my wife's. . Super stoked for this.

once s-off is done then yes will be able to flash roms from other htc devices to the vivid.as s-off lets you flash different radios instead having to use the radios the roms come with
Will s-off allow us to install kernels from recovery (so we don't need to fastboot from the computer each time)? Or do we just need a recovery capable of this?
Yes it let's you flash kernels in recovery

The thread magically disappeared.
Hi all!
I came over from the HTC Inspire and was wondering about the difference in flashing roms.
The inspire would flash everything all at one. The Inspire development was pretty mature when i first messed with ROMS so maybe the early days of the inspire was the same way???
Is the need for flashing the kernel first on the vivid because of the vivid itself, or is it that CWM can't handle it?
Not a big deal really. I was just curious and didn't see any information regarding this... although I think I saw a thread before in another forum mentioning it.

We don't have s-off for the Vivid yet. Probably won't ever have it either as I don't think any devs are working on it since HTCdev allows you to unlock.

keep in mind if you're getting a One X and it comes with 2.20 on it, there's no root available yet. So it doesn't matter how many devs they have for the device, until they achieve root you won't be able to use any of their stuff.

yep so the vivid is currently looking like a better option LOL
Got the Vivid when it first came out - this phone can't help but create mixed feelings:
Cons:
- Phone is heavy
- Battery life so-so, especially now that LTE is active
- Difficulty to unlock the phone means limited developers
Pros:
- Nice big screen with good quality (at full-brightness, nearly as good as S3 or HTC One X)
- Good camera and GPS (coming from the Captivate which was disastrous in both lol)
- Has FM radio, external SD cards and removable batteries - most of the top Android phones these days are missing at least one of these
The difficulty to develop is probably the biggest downside, but after almost a year I've finally dived into custom ROMs. Unlocked the bootloader, got S-Off thanks to the wire trick, even SIM Unlocked! Using Holis ROM, which is great, should tide me over until next spring when I'm eligible for an upgrade.
So in conclusion, while the Vivid was subpar under GB, since ICS came out it's been really nice. But I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone buying this phone unless it was cheap.
What is a vivid. Its not available in the UK

Can't unlock the att one x (xl) without super cid which requires root. 2.20 has no root, so no HTCdev unlock. Att won't allow the bootloader to be unlocked
The intl one x as well as the s and v are htcdev unlockable

I think it's either called the Raider or the Velocity in the UK. As far as I know, it's Raider in Canada (I can confirm that one at least since I own one), and Velocity in Aus/NZ.

Already have boot loader unlocked and running a custom with 2.20 loving this phone just can't wait to get the one x + or if they make a nexus 4 with 32gig like that did the nexus 7 I'll get betting that instead so I'm just going to wait a few months or so and see what happens

Hello guys!
I've been searching for a thread but couldn't find one with my question in particular. I've just bought a t-mobile branded HTC One here in The Netherlands. Can i just flash any normal HTC One ROM on it or does it need to be a specific t-mobile version or something?
Thanks
You should bring able to since S-off hasn't been achieved and radios are not an issue

I think you made a small typo, 'bring' is 'being able' hehe! But thanks allot!
Another quick question: What is the difference between the 'original one' development forum and the normal 'one' developement forum?
This is probably a dumb question but I just wanted to double check.

No. And at least you asked. It's much easier to answer a yes or no question then to try to lead someone back after they messed up their phone.
Check out the Verizon One Development section.
Though I haven't looked in a while, so I don't know how much development is being done with locked bootloaders and what-not.
Good luck.

There was actually an exploit that came out today for the verizon one that does s off, roots and unlocks the boot loader so I was looking around for roms and there are some good ones for the verizon one but there are definitely more here. I'm guessing verizon one development will pick up though.
Now that you have an exploit it should. Many of these Roms will probably be ported over.
