hey guys:
I have a problem that's killing me. Everything was fine on my phone, i had flashed to Darkys v9.2 had the speed mod kernel and the lagfixes working great until randomly my sms kept force closing and wouldnt load. I tried re-booting my phone and now its stuck in a bootloop. I tried flasing back to I9000UGJH2 with Odin and when i do it flashes fine and stops at the recovery mode first boot with the following message:
format_vfat_device -> argv[1] : -F
format_vfat_device -> argv[2] : 32
format_vfat_device -> argv[3] : -0
format_vfat_device -> argv[4] : android
format_vfat_device -> argv[5] : /dev/block/mmcb1
k0p1
run_program: child excited with status 1
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
copy default media content failed
After that i hit reboot system and it goes to the SGS boot animation and then to a black screen. My touch screen buttons(taking about the home and back) still light up when i touch them but its just a black screen. I can get to recovery and download mode but cant seem to fix the problem. If i boot to recovery mode it gives me the same message.
So i said screw it and tried to flash to I9000XXJPY. This worked but after it flashed it tried to boot but got stuck in a boot loop. I can still get into download mode but not recovery mode. So right now I'm stuck between a blank screen and a bootloop. If anyone has seen this and has any type of solution it would be much appreciated. Im in Canada and through sasktel. I really need my phone and im willing to try anything. im pretty computer literate. To me it sounds like there may be a problem with my internal SD card, but im not a doctor. Im fairly new to the SGS and i really like it. I've searched the forums and cant find a similar problem out there. I may have missed it, If there is allready something out there please let me know.
Edit 1:
Is it possible that there is a problem with my motherboard?
JH2 is 2.1 & Darkys 9.2 is based on 2.2.1
Whenever I have had problems with any ROM including boot-loop I always flash JPU (2.2.1) via ODIN with re-partition checked regardless of having any lagfig disabled or enabled.
Or you could try Darkys Resurrection ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940671
i tried that but no dice. i re-partitioned and flashed back to JPU but no dice. its still stuck in a boot loop. Does anyone know where i can get the original BMC 2.1 firmware or if that would help at all?
Help
Please someone help! Im still stuck in the boot loop. Im pretty sure that i've got a redundancy but not sure how to get rid of it. I've flashed all over the place and done a re-partition with the PDA, CSC, and the 512 pit file for JL2. Im still stuck in a boot loop and i really need my phone. Anyone have any other ideas?
I'm having the same problem, i tried to instal gingerbread on my phone but failed so i went back to froyo, when i finished rooting froyo it rebooted and i can see the S logo flashing and then the screen goes black and the phone just vibrates every 15sec or so. If anyone can help just tell me what to do. Thanks.
im having the same problem with my sgs and i found this while i was looking into the forums. some guy seemed to have the same problem and some how he managed to fixed it. this is his post and im quoting:

Can't say exactly what I did but here it goes. I may have done these things more than once today so you may have to run through this procedure a couple of times.
- Flashed JH2 with repartition and pit 512. (Stuck in bootloop)
- Flashed JL2 with Repartition and pit 512. (Boot to S Screen now)
- Flashed with SpeedMod 12
- Boot to recovery mode
- Format every partition
- Flash to JH2 with repartion and 512 pit. (Back to boot loop)
**** Heres where it was different***
- Flash to JL2 without repartion or pit
Booted up and working.
I know, sounds sketchy, but I must have reflashed my phone with 10 different firmwares today.
After I got it booted up I flashed it with Darky's 7.6 ROM. It gave an error at first about the data parittion but it repaired itself after running lagfix and changing to ext partition.
I may recomend to flash with Darky 7.6 and apply lagfix to rebuild the partitions and see if it fixes this issue right away.""
im not that into these kinda stuff i just want my phone working again. u guyz give it a try and if u succeed using this plz plz plz lemme no how u did it. or if u did it with a different method or something plz lemme no. thanks
Possible Eureeka!
I think i may have had an apiffany. The bootloop, from what i understand, is caused by a redundancy in the boot sector. I think what you may have done is by flashing the new speedmod kernel and formatting the partitions you may have eliminated the redundancy. That's what i think may have happened. If I'm wrong please correct me. I'm fairly new to this but I've done a ton of reading and research. If I'm wrong please let me know so that i can try and figure out what worked. I'm running into another problem now. I think i may have re-partitioned one to many time. Does anyone know a way to re-format the internal SD without being able to get into recovery mode. Ive lost that ability now. Its completly stuck in a bootloop no matter what i flash to.
bootloader
i think another problem that may be causing this mess is that on a couple of flashes i had the update bootloader and the phone efs clear checked. Is there any way that that has an effect on my phone? if so is there a fix attached to it? Please help, losing hope fast.
Alright, not too clued up, so probably should not have tried half of what I did!!!
Essentially in trying to change from Spacemooses Honeycomb Rom back to the Stock 2.3.3 (with all sorts of attempts in between an no progress), it won't go past the Samsung logo screen. Also read that a cause for this may be that I have not wiped the caches and data etc in recovery, but nothing in recovery seems to work, mounts failed, wipes failed... everything the recovery attempts is a fail! Now in trying to fix this I loaded another rom, the stock I800 Verizon I think... that starts up (nice sound), then flashes really dodgey looking lines all over, then just black and in that state only download mode was functioning, couldnt get into recovery!
So, as it stands nw, 2.3.3, stuck on samsung logo, recovery opens, but nothing works... not sure if its an ext4 or root related problem... those are just guesses though...
Help would be wonderful, I rely on this thing for varsity!!!
Thank you in advance!
Reflash stock Froyo rom, then go up to Gingerbread from there... You will probably loose all data when you restock. Hopefully you have a copy of your original rom..... Otherwise use another stock rom.
hi, yes i will admit i am still very new to the whole rooting/flashing/mods etc, but i f-ed up my captivate bad... first i should tell ya how i got to the point where i am now... (dont worry will be the abridged version):
-got phone, couldnt sideload apps
-rooted phone and enabled install of sideloaded apps
-tried to backup rom/phone with clockwork, learned that i had to flash modded kernal
-backed up and flashed new kernal (flashed clockwork recovery & backed up rom)
-learned about voodoo, so reflashed a voodoo kernal
-started to have issues with static, speaker volume, basically anyone who called me or i called couldnt hear me and was all static
-reflashed different kernal
-got ballsy, backed up rom again, and all user/system data, and attempted to flash custom rom (firefly3.0)
-flash failed... tried to reflash, failed again... error said parameters did not match
-tried restoring original backed up rom, failed again, and again...
-then, boom, phone boots up and am able to make calls and receive them, cant send text though..
-scoured the forums, and tried to fix phone/restore to stock.
-flashed odin, and then BRICKED!!!!
*NOW ALL PHONE DOES WHEN I TURN IT ON IS BOOT TO ATT SCREEN AND THEN OFF, THEN ATT SCREEN, THEN OFF.. TRIED BOOTING INTO RECOVERY, DOWNLOAD MODE AND STILL NOTHING WORKS...
wondering what happened, or what i did wrong, what i can do to fix my phone (if possible)????
any of u wicked smart devs care to help out a little 'ol noob?? please
obviously its not bricked!
i hate that misnomer. you are bootlooping....
you need a jig at this point if normal means of getting into download mode do not work
(power down phone, pull battery. put battery back in, and while holding vol up+down, plug into computer.) if that doesnt put you in download mode, you definitely need a jig.
once you get that jig, flash a custom cwm kernel, then try flashing a new rom. you dont need to boot into stock, which is what you are stuck on now.
BY DEFINITION: A BRICK IS SOMETHING THAT NO LONGER POWERS ON, AT ALL
Damn beaten to the punch.
Sent From My Captivating Shanna, yes I Named My Phone get over it.
I have no idea what happened to this Tab but it was brought to me with no way of getting into the boot loader, it just sits on the Samsung Screen. I was able to get it to the service screen and use Heimdall to upload CWM to it and then went to enter a format of the device and I'm getting all sorts of errors. I'm guessing the /data is corrupt *very* corrupt. I'm not sure how to do a full format. I think that with everything cleared I know enough to get it going again but no matter what I do I can't get the /data to format. I've tried fixing permissions and that takes 20 minutes and then says it's completed but yet I have no option of mounting /data in any way or clearing it. I'm so frustrated, I'm just looking everywhere for a way to nuke it back to where I can load even a stock ROM to get this thing to come back to life. Any ideas??!??!

What was the last known ROM did you install? which android? froyo (2.2), gingerbread 2.3.* or ics?
were you able to mount /data and /dbdata?
what error message did you get?
-- I take it you are not able to go to download mode (Power + Volume Down)?
What happen after you press Power + Volume Down?
If you can go to download mode:
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23348040&postcount=121
if not, try the above link - Retreive .rfs file in .tar and push it using heimdell.
same solution with more instructions:

hope it will help. If not let's try something else.
So, just for purpose of discussion (I tapped and ended up sending it in to Verizon with stock flashed back on it), it had ICS on it last. It was, jeeze, I can't remember what ROM but it was one of the ICS ROMS for the tab that are out. I used this tab like two days before with ICS running on it and had no issues when I used it but then two days later back in the owners hands it took a huge #*$&. I could mount /dbdata but not /data. It would fail a factory reset or a data wipe/format or a permissions reset every time.
I could get into the download mode for Heimdall to flash various other ROMS to it that would, according to Heimdall, successfully flash but then going in and doing a data wipe would fail to get the ROM to start up properly. I could do custom boot with CWM that is available for TAB but I couldn't get the stock boot loader to come up on stock ROMS. So odd, I appreciate the response because I wasn't sure if anyone would even be able to address such an odd thing.
Oh, on a side note, I could also not do a Dalvak wipe which I know nothing about but know it's important to wipe on occasion between ROMs - if that gives any insight into the real issue. The only thing I can surmise is that, somehow, that /data became corrupt and would not wipe. I thought of looking into ADB commands but whenever I would hook the Tab to my computer I could never get ADB to recognize it no matter what driver I used. Very frustrating to meet your match on tech.
**if it comes back and they wont help, I'll try this method you've posted though. In fact, I should be seeing it back shortly and I'll let you know what they've done.

No Please if you had ICS last, Do NOT flash the .rfs. ICS runs on ext4. But I hope VZW had it fixed for you.
So, to make a long story, short, for the past couple of days my phone has been soft-bricked... It first happened when I attempted to flash dmodv6 in CWM. Everything looked good throughout the installation, however, when I rebooted my device, I got stuck in a boot loop where It would say "Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I8190" for a few seconds, the screen would go black, then say the same thing again... over and over and over...
After a lot of trial and error because of NOT making a nandroid backup via CWM (stupid, I know - I had made one via Titanium Backup and thought that might be good enough), I finally was able to boot. Thanks to xXPR0T0TYPEXx, I was able to flash another rom by puting my external sd card into another phone, loading another rom onto it, and putting it back in my phone. I now had Cyanogenmod10 and was able to boot back up.
I attempted to restore the Titanium Backup I had made with this new rom (stupid again, I know) and it made almost every service on the phone stop working... I desperately wanted just to get back to square one - to install stock firmware and go from there. I followed tys0n's guide on flashing stock recovery then attempted to install stock firmware... All seemingly went well - I booted up, got past the initial "Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I8190" logo and finally got hung up at the "Samsung" logo. I left it one while I went to sleep, just to see if it would eventually work... I woke up and it was still the same. I tried flashing different version of the same stock firmware but it all ended in getting hung up at the "Samsung" logo.
A major problem is that I absolutely CANNOT flash a custom recovery via Odin - it just will NOT work. Everything looks good on Odin's end - I PASS, get the (succeed 1 / failed 0) thing but am sent to stock recovery every time I do the 3 button combination. I've tried many version of CWM and TWRP.... NOTHING. I've even unticked the "Auto-Reboot" button in Odin and pulled the usb cable and battery upon completion but, but nothing ever works. The only way I was ever able to get CWM on my phone in the first place was by an in-phone app... Rom Manager, maybe? I can't remember. But, as it is, that method is out of the question.
I've learned a lot about what I did wrong so that's the only good part of all of this. Now, all that's left is to fix the thing so I can go about it right. I'm completely out of ideas, have spent almost a full 24 hours searching solutions to this problem and I am at wits end...
I just want to get back to stock firmware... Any ideas, guys? Should I go about re-partitioning my device at this time?
I have the PIT file... but I'm not sure as to which firmware to choose. I imagine a firmware that is 4.1.1 like my phone was... but I'm not sure about the region. I live in the US and there is no US or North American region firmware version. Can anyone shed some light on which one I should choose?
My SSN underneath my battery say "GTI8190GSMH".
I'm sorry this is so long, I just wanted to explain what happened as best as I could. So, should I go about re-partitioning my device at this point? If so, what firmware would you recommend for my model? Are different region versions okay for a this method?
Or is there another way?
Thanks, guys. :silly:
Some additional details (if it will help): I can, indeed, boot into both recovery and download mode. I just can't seem to flash a stock rom that will boot past the "Samsung" logo.
I've even attempted to flash the param file after the rom flash but it didn't help.

Do you have the stock recovery now instead CWM? If yes do (if you didn't try it) a factory/data reset and wipe cache but it will delete your pics, music etc on your internal storage too.

Yeah, I have stock recovery now and I have tried that many, many times... Even if I install something like CyanogenMod, it still gets hung up on the CyanogenMod boot screen... And if I boot a stock firmware, it gets hung up at the same place at the "Samsung" logo...
I have an idea that one of the only options left is a PIT re-partitioning... If so, how would I properly go about that? Load the PIT file and the stock firmware in odin? Or only the PIT as PDA? I've heard a couple of different things and am unsure.

I don't know about PIT files but some people got this message : "CUSTOM PIT BINARY" in recovery mode after flashed a PIT file (maybe they used a other PIT file that wasn't compatible). So make sure you use a PIT file that is GT-i8190 compatible.
I tried flashing the PIT file for the hell of it because I am completely out of ideas.... It failed repeatedly in Odin.
I have no clue on how to fix this... I've tried countless roms and they all get stuck on their respective boot screens. The only one that gave me a glimmer of hope was Cyanogenmod10.2.... It went as far as saying "Android is upgrading" and showed "starting apps" but it got hung up there.
I don't know what to do, guys. Someone help!!!

Use a custom ROM to see if it will fix the problem .Try to flash CyanogenMod 10.2 by NovaFusion via odin or if you flash CyanogenMod 11 then you will automatically get the TWRP recovery. NovaFusion Team Homepage : novafusion.pl. I know you want the stock ROM but try other ROMs to get a booting phone again

I have... I've tried numerous stock roms and numerous custom roms... all versions of Cyanogenmod, Chameleon, Carbon, Slim mod, etc... They all get stuck at their respective logos.
I even tried the Cyanogenmod with TWRP but, as I explained earlier, I absolutely CAN NOT flash a custom recovery unless I use what ever app I used.... It doesn't work with Odin or with a rom. I don't know why.
I wish someone had more info on repartitioning my phone and if it would help.
