[Q] What is really the difference between CDMA & GSM tabs and roms? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have a question about what the real differences between the gsm and cdma töms and tablets...
i have a galaxy tab bought in sweden and running both telia sonera and telenor mobile broadband..
and ny question is the following, i have installed both cdma and gsm custom roms and i havent seen even the sligthest difference of my tabs behaviour either with cdma or gsm so what is the big issue for all the folks in the developement section about "please do a gsm version" or "do u know when the cdma version hits the floor"
i am just a noob so please help me understand

Most times flashing a GSM or CDMA rom on the wrong device screws things up to the point where you have a real brick.
Can't comment on why yours seems ok...

Then why you said that your gsm tab with a cdma rom is working fine ?
Seriously, cdma is for sprint and verizon carriers, they don't use sim cards, gsm versions do. Us, europeans use gsm. If you flash a cdma rom on a gsm device I doubt you'll be able to make calls(I seriously doubt it will boot), because they have different drivers... etc.Try flash the sprint rom on your device for exemple and let us know if it behaves normally
Hope that clears things up a little bit.

Need HELP With my TOUCH PRO 2

He guys
Here is the question straight forward, I bought a used US Cellular HTC Touch Pro 2 from someone who uses the phone on a CDMA network while i will have to use it on a GSM network the seller said that there is a SIM slot underneath the battery which he never used, Will this phone work on my GSM network outside U.S. and will that phone be unlockable?
This is not the correct forum. Use use touch pro 2 cdma or general for these questions.
Heres a link http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/
no way
I dont think there is a cdma cellphone which you can use as a gsm

Sorry but that's not right. The CDMA versions of the TP2 have GSM capability too, and have a SIM slot for that purpose, as said above.
As also said above though, the CDMA sub-forum is the best place for this sort of question though.
ok People i've Moved this to CDMA froum Please help there

[Q] need ROMs for Worldphone (SIM/CDMA) version

Hey I have a Sprint TP2 and can use SIM cards or CDMA service (currently using), I already did the HardSPL for it but I dont know which ROMs to flash it with... I like the way the Energy ROM looks from screenshots but also want something fast...
What ROMs can I use on my phone?
This forum is for GSM ROMs, there's a separate sub-forum for CDMA ROMs. But better would be ppcgeeks.com, which tends to have a lot more CDMA ROMs than over here (including links to NRG's ROMs).
So I´m kind of confused, if the phone it is both gsm (simcard able) and also supports cdma, what kind of rom will it support? gsm only? cdma only? or both depending on wether I´m using it with a gsm carrier or a cdma carrier? If somebody could answer it´d make my day as there´s a guy selling me a touch pro 2 that´s able to support both gsm and cdma but I´d like to know how far can I go about flashing stuff to it, as I´m currently a happy htc kaiser/tilt owner and would like to "flash the nand out of it" lol and even throw in android to the mix (as i´m currently running froyo on my old kaiser).

If you phone is both CDMA and GSM (Sprint or Verizon), then you need the CDMA ROMs.
Also make sure you use the CDMA HardSPL and CDMA radios. If you flash a GSM radio to a CDMA phone (even if you're using it on a GSM network with a SIM card), you *will* permanently brick it.

thanks for such fast replies. So, if I buy the gsm/cdma phone It sure won´t be as customizable as the gsm version as I haven´t seen many cdma roms around (haven´t looked around that much so I may be wrong) anyways is there any performance/quality disadvantages of going gsm/cdma instead of the "regular" gsm version of this phone? (not really talking about data traffic alone but the overall feel of the phone). A few too many questions I know, so sorry if i´m being kinda bothersome. thanks in advance.

That's because you're on XDA-developers, which historically has had more GSM stuff than CDMA, I believe. If you want CDMA stuff, go to ppcgeeks.com, where you'll find a thread on NRG's ROM plus others. So it should be just as customisable as a GSM-only phone.
Ok I'll download the CDMA ROM's... But will I still be able to use SIM cards on it if I go to another country (or in the US for that matter)? I was planning on doing the SIM/Radio unlock thing for US carriers (the one where you enter your IMEI and pay like 14 euros)??

I know it's kind of confusing, but it doesn't make a difference if the device uses GSM also. It's a CDMA device. You can only flash CDMA ROMs to it, otherwise it will brick. If you have the radio unlocked, you can use it on other carriers. You can unlock it most easily by contacting the carrier and just telling them you're going on vacation to Europe or something and need it unlocked.

[Q] GSM ROM on CDMA Tab

I'm liking the selection of GSM ROMs for the TAB much better than the Verizon CDMA... I'm no longer making use of the CDMA antenna... WiFi only... could I use a GSM rom?
some question...
I belive that it possible. Thinks its a different kernel.
The reason i think this is because of the honeycomb cdma gsm ports. I was under the inpression it was the same rom with different kernel. And the kernel was what made it gsm or cdma.
See i want the oppsite of you. I cant get any help either. People think im crazy.
If you find anything out about my issue tell me and i will do the same. Yes? No?
Don't Panic

Differance in models

Im noticing in peooles signatures that they are posting from different models.does that effect much? Is there a model comparison chart somewhere?
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
we got ,
GSM
CDMA
Sprint
Verizon
so all are different in specific ways ..
You forgot Wifi only Kosh...
Well I meant more in terms like I have a i800 when I went to the store they were selling a 1010 model I think it was. What r the differances in those? From what I can tell its just regions
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
Radio frequencies, touch screen, digital tv, fm radio, open gl, wifi only, memory size, just to name a few differences.
No, the 1010 model is a WIFI only version. It has different hardware from the gsm and cdma tabs. There hasn't been much developement in that regard. The cdma tab also seems to be available only in America... Again theres not much developement so far. The gsm versions are worldwide and have the most developement as they are the type most people have...
CDMA - no sim card and locked to telco
Wifi only - self explanatory
GSM - uses sim cards....
Other than that it seems to be variants, though there is a difference between the gpt1000l/n tabs and the majority of others too...

other phones with 3g+cdma support?

recently i learnt this phone & htc incredible 2 can use cdma sims with d help of a chinese rom.
now i liked to know , if there any other phone with this same easter-egg.
thanx in adv.
Sent from my GT-I5800 using Tapatalk 2
It isn't really an easter-egg, it is more of a hack to get them to work. The CDMA part doesn't rely on a SIM at all, however the GSM part does. In the US, the GSM bands are locked out for other US carriers, so the Chinese ROM is used to unlock those bands. Outside of the US, this hack should not be necessary assuming that you got the phone SIM unlocked. As far as other phones, I know that the Droid 2 Global also features both GSM and CDMA circuitry, though I don't know if there's a hack for that one with a Chinese ROM. There likely are other models out there that are capable of both CDMA and GSM, but I don't know any off hand.
thanx man for getting me to the straight.
