Ive mentioned this on the last page of the related thread, but since it might get 'lost' in the crowd im mentioning the issue here. If by some way im violating any of the rules, im really sorry and the mods can delete this thread.
I have a brand new O2X, on which i flashed internal SDcard CWM found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098745 and then copied on internal sdcard and flashed the version recommended for stock froyo (v10b) Camera-1.1.3.4_44-96.zip found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090785 as well as Paul's Performance pack found here http://android.modaco.com/topic/336678-8-apr-r2-stock-performance-pack/ . I tried recording 1080p with Super Fine @ Picture Quality (camera menu) but the result i get, as check on vlc, is [email protected] On android's 'Manage Applications' menu i see that camera is on v1.0 . Shouldnt it show v1.1.3.4? It seems that the cam mod flash didnt work so im wondering whether the same happened for the performance pack patch.. Any suggestions? Any advice would be very welcome. Thanx in advance
Peace
1. with titanium backup uninstall stock camera.apk
2. unzip Camera-1.1.3.4_44-96.zip
3. install moded camera.apk from .zip
have fun
p.s: If you do this correctly, you get new camera icon with red eye.
I can do this without having the phone rooted? I have only flashed CWM, i havent done anything more to root the phone
Thanx

I tried to root the phone using one click root (found on the dev forum) but it didnt work.. It showed 'failed' on step 4.. Now i dont even know whats going on with the phone... Jesus, i appreciate all the work that the devs are doing but till now none of the guides ive used has worked. Flashing the patch for [email protected] didnt work and now this one-click-root failed half way thru.. damn it
EDIT: Sry for the fuzz mate, there was a different way to root the O2X which seems to have worked, thanx for the input
I tried all you did, but when i tried to install the modified camera.apk i just got a message 'app not installed' ((
I stupidly deleted system camera.apk without backup and im now left with no camera app.. s##t

Ok now you have root and uninstall stock camera.apk , right?
Now go to recovery mode and clear dalvik-cache and partition ( via cwm ).
after this start phone normally and copy modded camera apk to system/app with root explorer and click on him and click install.

I do not know I always do "wipe cache partition and dalvik cache" when installing modding apps, kernel's and etc.
btw now after wipe dalvik cache and partiotion, also can try to install Camera-1.1.3.4_44-96.zip via recovery.

I think my only option is to use a nandroid backup from a fresh install, can anyone send me a link to one please.
If you did a master clear it deleted everything on your /sdcard volume... so of course it isn't finding an update.zip package there =P
if your recovery is black screen w blue letters, That is samsung recovery.

I can get to samsung recovery, but when I click reinstall packages it fails if there isn't an update.zip file in the /sdcard directory.
I poked around the clockworkmod update.zip and found out it deletes the /cache/recovery/update.zip and installs a modified /sbin/recovery; among other things, but I think those are the files that are most important to me right now, are those files not restored by Odin?
btw I'm new to android but I'm a linux admin and programmer so I have a basic understanding of how this works, now to just dig deeper and find out where it's going wrong.
Odin will wipe everything on your NAND clean, this does not include the /sdcard area (internal Sdcard)
Doing a master clear wipes everything including your internal sd (so if you had already had a clockwork backup it would have gotten wiped as well)
Rom Manager/Clockwork creates a folder on your /sdcard called /sdcard/clockwork, and within that folder all of your images are stored. Clockwork uses and update.zip file to install itself on boot up (through stock recovery)
I'm not entirely sure what answer you're looking for though, so I figured I'd just lay out a few facts in hopes that one of them might help
Thanks for the reply, I know the basics of how clockworkmod/nand work. What I'm trying to do is restore my phone to factory condition, Odin restores everything except the recovery manager, for some reason I'm stuck with the modified recovery that needs an update.zip. Before I made any changes, when my phone was new, if I booted into recovery and selected reinstall packages it would run the default att/samsung recovery program and reinstall default packages(as far as I can remember, please tell me if I'm just imagining this, ive been flashing and reflashing my phone countless times so I could be really confused), thats what I wan't to happen, now it just gives me the error:
e: can't open /sdcard/update.zip.

And could someone else with a stock AT&T Captivate please confirm, I'm not ready to admit that I've gone completely crazy....
Just so I understand. You go to recovery and it tries to install an update.zip without you doing anything? This isn't normal.
I'd do another odin and a master clear. That really should do it.

No, he is saying that when he first got the phone it used to reinstall the stock packages when he selected reinstall packages. Now it doesn't and instead just says it can't find update.zip. He just wants to make sure that on a stock recovery it's not supposed to install anything when he selects reinstall packages.
If you did a master clear and have not manually put an update.zip file back into the root of the sdcard, then you will always get that message because the file does not exist. If you ran the 1 click odin and restored the phone, then you are back to stock. No further actions necessary.

Don't see why it should. It is not the rooting that does anything to the phone. It just gives additional access. It is what you do with it that can (potentially) harm the phone.
Also, when you install CM you automatically get GB as that is what the CM is essentially.

Thats what I did today, just got my phone today.
I did have problems installing the CWM for some reason. or at least, difficulty getting into recovery mode. First, on my phone I had to reboot after rooting, even though it said it worked fine. Reboot the phone of course.
To reboot into recovery, hold down the volume and power buttons practically until you are in CWM itself. Release the power button first though, before you are actually in. You may need to pull the battery a few times to get this right. use the volume keys to navigate CWM, and the power button to make a selection.
Make sure to perform a backup immediately, from within CWM. You never know!
I also got into a reboot loop with CM7. Solution was to wipe again, and then reflash.
I had no problems
Installed CWM, open ROM manager, flash it, boot into it, make backup, wipe everything, install from sd
How do I root if I can't get into the settings on my phone?
You can't, you have to get into settings and turn on USB debugging to root.
Ok so how do it get the settings to work again? I get a force close every time.
Try clearing the data for 'Settings' in the app manager.
Thanks Everyone. I have successfully rooted using SuperOneClickv1.9.5
Now I need help on Installing CM.
* Anyone got easy steps to do that ?
* Will it work with V10D perfectly ?
* Can I do it without External Memory card ?
Easy steps? Sure.
Install ClockworkMod recovery (internal version from Dev forum)
Copy CM and gapps zips to your internal card
Boot to recovery, take backup, wipe, flash CM, flash Gapps.
Reboot
Muck about with the mount points to get the internal card on /sdcard/
Enjoy.

Hi. I have Android 2.3.6 on my Galaxy Ace. I wanted to root it with upd_1.zip. I used the stock recovery. It said installation complete, so I rebooted. The Superuser icon has appeared in my app drawer so I was very happy that it was successful, but my SuperUser says that I haven't got SU binaries, so I haven't got any root access. I've searched for similar problems, but I didn't find any. What do I do now?

Sorry buddy, never heard of such an issue. I guess you try to Unroot and Root again. U may try xda for some better Root procedure or search my blog www.andro-sapien.blogspot.in.
Do let me know if it is sorted out by Re-Rooting.

So, I unrooted and rooted and there's the same issue. Original Superuser says - Checking available version failed, so I tried to delete the app data - that didn't work. I updated the Superuser and it says that I doesn't have SU binaries.

Try this:

or
https://hotfile.com/dl/180452656/3c2538d/gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip.html
I actually have a similar sounding problem but arrived at it differently.
My phone had been rooted and working OK for over a year. At some point the latest superuser binary stopped functioning with adb wireless.
So I downloaded SuperSU a few months ago and it's different binary fixed that particular issue. So all was working fine until failing to update that binary today. I'm now in the same boat as you but don't have a clue how or why.
This 2 files are the same as my upd_1.zip. The very same. My upd_1.zip has xbin with busybox, su etc. but it doesn't want to be flashed for some reason. The only files in my xbin folder (in the phone) are : busybox, dexdump, although I flashed the other needed binaries. What is this? Is this my phone's fault?
@edit : Can I flash CWM without those binaries?

Yes you can, and then you can try to flash root again.
If not you can flash CF-Root (only for Gingerbread!!) maybe it works :S
1º Flash via recovery CWM
http://www.mediafire.com/download/u331vcwkr36c28n/CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip
2º Flash via CWM APP, it'll fix the bootanimation
when your android will boot, go to CWM app (in your drawer) and select "Flash kernel" and select this file
http://dfiles.eu/files/1sfl9qotm
I flashed CWM Recovery, and now when I select install zip from sdcard and select root file, it says error 7 - update aborted.
@edit - I found the AceGingerRoot.zip. Is it legit and can I install it on GT-S5830 (it has different MD5 than upd_1.zip and root.zip).

It takes a while to perform a backup but let it go, it's a good idea to do full backup at regular intervals.
Keep rom manager and use it. I've used it since I've been on android. It's the best tool for backing up, restoring and managing your backups.

Says failed to mount data, invalid argument. ..I was doing this in preparation for flashing the new rom you ported (v3) already did a titanium backup and saved to my drive, just trying to make life easier just in case.

You need to format your data in twrp or change your syorage location to ext sd not internal
Thanks to Zach ?
is there an md5 for the zip? Think I am already to give it a try but need to make sure it downloaded correctly.

(Notexperience v3)..No dice.Like I said it says they flash successfully both, but no luck. The one caleb said at least installs the app and u see it in the app drawer. I'm at am empasse
what is the md5, you should put it on first page, would help rule out problems installing.

bad idea will make the boot slower in TWRP and plus its runnning t-mobile lastest update so you should be good!
I hope you are confused. You can write the numbers of the md5 of the zip you uploaded on the first page, not adding one for twrp to check, but so that people can still use a checker before they try to install it and say you messed something up when it was just a bad download

Don't use it if you don't trust it
